Was out yesterday to the wetlands (sorry for the late post but my first
submission yesterday failed apparently) and had some great birds including:
Greater White-Fronted Goose
- most likely the same bird as observed on Friday

- spotted swimming not far from the

The water levels at the West Perth Wetlands are near perfect and there were
plenty of waterfowl to be found this evening.
The highlight was a lone GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE in the NE cell (right
behind the processing plant). It was swimming around with a large number of

last weekend and turned in to the Municipal office apparently. They then

Water levels in the shorebird cell right behind the parking area are near
perfect for all sizes of shorebirds and there are lots of shorebirds in this

The west end of the shorebird cell (right behind the parking lot) continues to
hold a few inches in depth of water and some great shorebird habitat. The rest
of the cell has some standing water from the heavy rains the

Just a quick update on the state of the wetland cells at Mitchell.
The shorebird cell behind the parking lot is now almost completely dried up
with just some water at the west end nearest the bushlot and almost completely
covered by an algae pad.

I was out checking the wetlands this afternoonand found that the number of
shorebirds continues to grow with almost ALL feeding in the cell right at the
parking area. This cell continues to be excellent for shorebirds and other
waders. Note that the fenced cell is still bone

I wanted to provide a quick update on the West Perth Wetlands here in Mitchell
as we progress into Fall. Water levels in the fenced cell are back down
(finally) and are good for any late shorebirds and many waterfowl. The other
cells are great for waterfowl with the one right behind

there’s now 3 WILSON’S PHALAROPES actively feeding in the fenced in cell.
All 3 are in different plumages and were roughly together in the right (south)

were birding at the West Perth Wetlands this evening...and they had 11
HUDSONIAN GODWITS. All of these birds were well advanced into basic
plumage.The godwits were found in the fenced in cell by the sewage

tonight and the 2 Hudsonian Godwits were still present as of 7:30 p.m.and
the last I saw them they were preening and seem to be ready to hunker down for
the night.

Saturday started off promising but the cloud cover rolled in and gave us about
an hour of rain. Eventually the rain let up but the days flight was definitely

Norm observed an IBIS at the Hullett Wildlife Area this afternoon. The bird
was feeding several hundred yds away. He notes that it was an adult but from
that distance he couldn't tell for certain if it was Glossy or White-faced.

HUDSONIAN GODWIT and were pleasantly surprised to find a MARBLED GODWIT feeding
beside it.

today at the Mitchell constructed wetlands.
The bird is quite faded in plumage.

I took a stroll out to the Mitchell (West Perth) Wetlands. this afternoon and
was pleasantly surprised to see well in excess of 200 shorebirds of several
different species.
The majority of the shorebirds are easily visible in the first cell as you walk
up to the top of the berm

Mark and Jason had a Cattle Egret that flew up out of the Irrigation Cell
B...circled and then dropped back into the same cell. Mark managed to get some
