There is a ##linux channel on Freenode, but it gets rather heavy

Is there a mailing list for general linux discussion/support?

Do all disks need to be empty before creating an LVM structure?
I have 9 disks, 5 of which are loaded with data. I'd like to combine
them all together to make one array, being able to expand as needed.
But before I do, should I empty all the disks first?

How come packages in BLFS are not listed in order of precedence, the
way they are in LFS?
Rather, they are listed in alphabetical order in each section.
Wouldn't it make more sense to list packages in order as they are
required by subsequent packages?

That's right. I tried GTK-2 and the configure script whined a lot
about missing packages, so I appended
--with-gtk=3.0
to most of the components. That caused most of the whining to go
away.

What I am doing is not strictly part of BLFS, but I hope I can get

In BLFS, we have a package called

May I suggest using a

This would make the script a lot smaller to go through.

Uh oh.
I realized, after I had finished building my XFCE and a ton of
depends, that I never rebuilt DBus in BLFS.
Am I going to have to rebuild everything all over again?

It seems default for dmesg is to yammer loudly onto the console.
This is not desirable. For example, whenever you add a new USB device you are

The switch I wish to use to turn this off is
dmesg -n 1
That will stop
