Re: [Blind-Computing] computer starting before pressing poweron

2009-12-26 Thread Jacob Kruger
I think it's meant that when the power is connected to the computer, it
automatically turns on as if it was suspended instead of actually being
powered off.

In other words, does the computer actually get told to turn off, or do you
just disconnect the UPS power supply to it?

That might be causing the whole issue, and if you specifically tell it to
turn off, does it do the same thing?

Not necessarily relevant, but to get to the page content, I generally use
Alt + D to get to the address bar, and then shift + tab will take me to
the last element of the page, and then ctrl + Home takes me to the top of
the page.

Hi,
I'm having another problem, is possible to turn off the tabbing
navigations? Because when I open new tab, I see a lot of stupid things.
I
need only adress-bar and the web as it was in ie6. In IE 7 is this, but
it

isn't so critical.

Hi all. I am using Windows XP and just upgraded from I E version 6 to

It seems that the interface is much different. Google use to come up as

Where can one get a list of commonly used keystrokes to help make this

[Blind-Computing] Victor Stream, where's the best place to get one

2009-12-26 Thread Chris Feist
Hi all. For Christmas my folks are going to get me a Victor Stream
or a comparable device. I really don't know a lot about which players are
the best on the market, but I've heard the most about the Victor Stream and
will most likely go with that one.

I'm looking for advice on where to purchase one and what site might have the
best deal on prices, etc? I want to make the best economical purchase, or I
should say my folks' purchase, possible. I figure I should also keep in
mind any potential warrantees, repair policies, etc. Things sure have a
habit of breaking. Any other thoughts on the matter are welcome. Thanks
and happy holidays.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Distribution List Question

2009-12-26 Thread Seth Russell
Send them invitations. I do believe that these sites provide a process for
inviting people to join. You might loose a large percentage of your people
in the process ... people don't want to change. But if you have loyal
devoted followers, they should all come over. Another disadvantage is that
these groups are prone to pick up spammers. But you can control that by
limiting who can post to the group. Alternatively you could switch ISPs,
curtailing distribution lists seems a bit draconian to me.

Hi. Thanks. That prompts another question. The NLS version of the VR
Stream... would it also play books I download from Bookshare? I mean if I

be better than buying one since they aren't cheap. Maybe.

Chris, if you are in the U S, you are eligible to receive a free versioin of

the nls v r stream in the talking books program.
To buy your own, just Google the term and see what comes up. I think the
price will be the same regardless of vendor-sort of price fixing .
Humanware.com was involved in the invention of the vrs. The others are
vendor/resellers so checking warranties would be a good idea If AMazon.com
has it, it may be free shipping from Amazon. marilyn

will most likely go with that one.

Thanks

It depends on which service you are using. The program for this list is the

[Blind-Computing] turning off the security prompt in internet explorer

2009-12-26 Thread ROSEMARIE CHAVARRIA
Hi, everyone,

I just read the tips and tricks page on the jaws users site and followed the
instructions for turning off the security prompting you get on some sites and
it didn't work. I went on the Safeway.com site and I still got the prompt
saying this site has both secure and non secure information. Do you want to
continue or something like that. Is there another way to turn off this
feature? I don't want it popping up each time I sign in to a site to do some
shopping.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.
