Just minutes after talking to my neighbor about her seeing a Yellow bellied
Sapsucker in the woods behind her house, one showed up at my feeders. First
time for my feeders here in Dryden

We have multiple feeders outside our kitchen windows, including a 1' x 2'
windowsill extension platform. In the past hour, chickadees, junco, cardinals,
song and fox sparrows, blue jay, mourning doves, white-breasted nuthatch, and a
male red-winged blackbird have all sat just outside my window t
5 Baltimore Orioles, young & parents, plus 4 Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, young w/
perhaps a female parent,
graced my seed & jelly feeders this morning!
The little 1/2” striped wasps hog the jelly tho & the birds try to avoid them.
A week ago these wasps attacked me & i had an ambulance ride & spent
Just had a female Hairy Woodpecker hitch herself up and around the suet
holder attached to the side of a hopper feeder, and nail a Mourning Dove
who was sunning itself on the roof, about 6" away fro the suet. The MODO
had her tail toward the woodpecker and never saw it coming. At least 6
or 8
What a collection this am. A Pileated, Bluebirds, and a Brown Creeper, all
on the same suet feeder and its post at the same time! This makes up for
seeing Evening Grosbeaks only once this season.

Continuing at our feeders are a small flock of Purple Finches, both sexes,
consuming black oil sunflower seeds, and a half dozen Pine Siskins on the
niger socks. This in addition to the goldfinches and juncos and doves in
profusion along with a few chickadees, nuthatches, and titmice.

Hi all,
I have a mature white throated sparrow , perhaps 2 or 3 almost constantly at
my feeder . Last year an immature one spent the winter with me. Also unusual
for me I have several immature common grackles eating me out of house and home.

Yesterday we decided to tally the feeder seed preferences of our bird
visitors. Since we fill five feeders during the winter, all equally
accessible in a row hanging from a wire within a span of ten feet, we
thought it would be a fair test. At one end we have cedar and spruce for

different flavors) along with lots of blackbirds (red wings, grackles,

I was taking CBC feeder count calls from 4 - 6:15 pm at the O Lab on Jan. 1,
compilation night.
Perhaps you did not dial the extension # given in count day information. The
phone at the front desk is pretty restricted and I was not allowed access to
some of the regular lab numbers.

One advantage to this weather is that it brings in the birds to the feeders.
I've had more of my regulars than usual. I now have 4 pairs of Cardinals which
stay all day. I counted 10 Tree Sparrows, 6 Juncos, and about 15 House
Finches. There are many Goldfinches, Tufted Titmice, Chickadees,
The quick snow drop in Cayuga County this morning (6" at my house) has brought
sparrows to the feeders from all over: 5 Am. Tree; 4 White-throated; 2 Song, so

I should have posted this yesterdayWe had a Yellow-rumped Warbler at
one of our feeders late yesterday (1/4) AM. Unfortunately we are outside of
the Christmas count circle.It was seen once, and flew when (I'm
assuming) it noticed my movement in the house. I have not seen it again today.

That's funny - I had 14 Mourning Doves under my feeders this morning,
which is 10 more than usual. Are they having a local convention?

Aside from the usually expected winter species I had a BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD
