I didn't find the Nashville Warbler around the swan pen mid-morning today,
but I did have the continuing AUDUBON'S WARBLER, a Western PALM WARBLER,
and a chipping then singing NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH at the east end of the

There is an apparent SANDERLING out on the spit at Myers Point. It's giving
me some weird impressions and is in dull basic plumage, but does appear to
be a (very early) Sanderling. I'll take a look at my photos later to
confirm, but wanted to get the word out now.

As of a few minutes ago, at least 7 VESPER SPARROWS, as well as Savannah,
Field, Song, and Chipping, were feeding along the road at the northeast
curve on Sapsucker Woods Rd.

Chris and Jessie and Jeff had the female type TUFTED DUCK earlier this
morning from Hog Hole, but at about 8:00 (I believe) it flew north out of
sight with a flock of Redheads. These Redhead flocks have been moving up
and down the lake so it may well return, but it is not being seen currently.

Just had a SHORT-EARED OWL foraging around over the fields at the Ithaca
Airport viewed from halfway down Snyder Road. I first spotted it perched on
a small pole in the field. It changed poles twice, soared around a bit,
then headed off across the road into the woods. This was at about
5:46-5:51pm.
A beautiful drake BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, found by Tim Lenz, is currently with
the large, close mixed waterfowl flock in the small open area in Sodus Bay,
Wayne County.

Hi all,
I just saw a probable female HOARY REDPOLL in a group of about 220 Common
Redpolls that were working (and by working I mean flying over and
occasionally landing in trees for less than a minute at a time) the area
around the parking area of the new FLLT preserve on Irish Settlement Road,
sou
lock of 60+ CANVASBACK flying high down the lake. On Burdick HIll Road we
found dozens of Red-tailed Hawks and another NORTHERN SHRIKE distant to the
north. Some feeders at Drake Road had 18+ Common Redpolls and a Northern
Flicker nearby.

Despite heavy migration last week, today many thousands of SNOW GEESE
remain in several large flocks somewhere about halfway up on Cayuga Lake,
and a single large flock on Seneca Lake. I know because I saw them from my
window seat.

the spit at Myers Point a little while ago. Pale gray overall, darkish
wingtips with frosty edges, petite build. Photos and discussion to follow,

A flock of about 80 BLACK SCOTERS and perhaps six SURF SCOTERS (at least
three adult males) is currently sitting on the lake north of Stewart Park
but too distant to be seen from there. Kevin and I watched it come in from
the north and settle on the water half an hour ago, and I just refound it
fro
NO other shorebirds (Puddlers
was all but deserted). Unfortunate considering we had 11 species on
Saturday (without White-rumped or LB Dowitcher, two of the most likely
lingerers). A huge flock of ~250 American Pipits was at
Knox-Marsellus, and a group of ~35 Snow Buntings on the Wildlife
Drive.
Now five ROSS'S GEESE (2 adults, 3 juveniles) with 29 Snow Geese in
Knox-Marsellus. Nine CACKLING GEESE joined the Brant on the wildlife drive.

A flock of 156 BRANT is currently sitting at Shorebird Flats on the
wildlife drive at Montezuma with several hundred Canada Geese. Not
unexpected, but this high a number at this close range is usually only
available along the coast.

At least four (and three Cackling) at Knox-Marsellus, currently best viewed
from East Road. Also 19 cranes, one Stilt Sandpiper, 42 Dunlin, one
American Golden-Plover and nine Black-bellied Plovers, and Fox Sparrow and
American Tree Sparrow on Towpath Road. A single LAPLAND LONGSPUR and a Snow
Bunt
found.

No Cave Swallows at Stewart Park this morning (yet!), but an adult BRANT is
walking around on the red lighthouse jetty, and a single SURF SCOTER has
joined 23+ Ruddy Ducks on the lake.

Just flushed a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW from the weedy area near the dock in
the middle of the shoreline at Stewart Park. I haven't refound it yet, it
is being skulky.

The scoters took off shortly after they arrived and headed south. They are
now visible out on the lake from Stewart Park, about straight out (but
still distant) from East Shore Park.
