We were (are) very quick in
I wonder if the Captain was expecting to get through the Gulfstream
and then just turn right and deal with less-rough conditions. I have
no familiarity with that region.

Right on, Chuck.
The gentleman sailing in our CCs certainly has its advantages. I've
done lots of body and windsurfing and still enjoy the visceral joys of
being very close to the wind and water - unless I'm on a lee shore.

If you're racing, why not go 155 (or 145)? The PHRF cutoffs (at least
where I am in FL) are at those values.

I am replacing the lenses on my portlights. They are in aluminum
frames that are screwed into the cabintop. I understand that I need
to take into account the expansion/contraction of the lens material.
When the temperature increases does the inside circumference of the
frame increase or decrease?
If by boo you mean bamboo, that is not a hard wood. I have it in a
few rooms of my home and can attest that it gouges easily. I'm pretty
sure carbonized bamboo is softer than the lighter colored
non-carbonized.

The SiTex EC7 seems like a good value.
I have neither a chartplotter nor an autopilot on Ox (33-1).
Would anyone know if some sort of extra component (an autopilot
junction box?) would be needed to connect the SiTex chartplotter to
an Octopus RS Sailboat Drive unit?

Sorry, bad Octopus link

I wonder if those 80's boats were designed to any sort of rule, as
long as it wasn't IOR.

That's pretty much how I single-handedly gybe on the non-raucous St
Johns (no apostrophe) River in North Florida, except that I like to
bring in the main as often and much as possible while gybing. A third
arm would help a lot.

Are you seeking a triangle in which one side is not a straight line?
Or otherwise non-Pythagorian?

Dwight,
I is the deck to masthead measurement, i.e. the vertical side of the

I'm
something like 15x12. It was awhile ago
so the pitch may be wrong. I'm still using a fixed 16x10RH.

I've been off the list for awhile as I was considering going to the
dark (non-CC - but still sail) side. At any rate Ox and I have
to 1.0 knot increase would be very satisfying.
Opinions, experiences, and suggestions much appreciated.
