Brian, My boat came with a vent in the forward hatch. I removed it, as it was a source of water in the v berth area. I have since replaced the lens. The filler plug for the vent blocked some of the light (but was at least watertight). I have a Nicro solar vent in the hatch over the main

I can't speak too much to the vent question but hatches I have some experience with.  I looked into all this.  I ended up going with all new hatches.  6 in all.  Select plastics are expensive.  Its pretty much the same cost as a new hatch.    The savings they claim is in the labor to install a
