The storm brought in a few migrants to Union Reservoir, east of Longmont, Weld
County this morning. About 20 Willets, 5 Long-billed Dowitchers, 4 Lesser
Yellowlegs, 6 Wilsons Phalaropes, 1 Least Sandpiper, and a Peregrine Falcon
joined the usual Avocets, Pelicans, Shoveler, Gadwalls, Western
Cold and breezy and wet! But It was a fun shorebird day, aided by the
weather. I observed 19 species of shorebirds at Chatfield SP and at Hine
Lake in Robert A. Easton Regional Park, JeffCo. Both locations seemed to
have birds coming and going during the light rain, and then going or
staying when
Hi All,
Today I headed out to Weld County on a rainy/snowy and windy day. In one week,
there's a noticeable increase in birds. The Lark Buntings, Lark Sparrows, and
Bullock's Orioles have returned. Interestingly, as I drove a stretch along
CR89, I noticed three Swainson's Hawks in less than
Yes, they're back! One showed up at our backyard feeder in southwest Fort
Collins last evening around 6:30 pm. It paid a brief visit, again, this
morning and, apparently, left town. Also, a wave of Bullocks' Orioles came
through the Dixon Reservoir hot spot in west Fort Collins this morning.
Cindy Morrow found a female Painted Bunting in El Paso County today at
feeders at a public library. Several people were able to see it today and
get photos, some of which are already on eBird.

Spent a little time at Union Reservoir in Weld County, after seeing Bill's

Birders,
On a blustery day with north winds reaching 40 mph, I ventured to John Martin
State Park to buy an annual State Parks Pass. I dared to get out of my car in
the Hasty Campground. It was worth it, despite having to wear a winter parka
and hat.
Near Campsite 79, I had a singing male
COBirders,
This weather system brought in some good birds at Lagerman Reservoir, first
spotted, I believe, by Eric DeFonso, including a breeding plumaged
Hudsonian Godwit. Also present were a Marbled Godwit, Whimbrel, 50+
Wilson's Phalarope, 50+ American Avocet, a dozen or so Long-billed
A friend just texted me a picture of a dead pelican she found at Cherry
Creek State Park. It did not appear to have any injuries. She reported it
to the park office so hopefully they will act quickly to remove the animal
so scavengers don't get to it and pass illness along the food chain

Out in the drizzle to this afternoon to see on SE edge of Lake McIntosh in
Longmont: Semipalmated sandpiper, Semipalmated plover, Spotted sandpiper,
Wilson’s phalarope, Killdeer and a possible Baird’s sandpiper. Plus Blue-winged
teal. Cold out there but worth the effort Dave Hyde/Longmont
I birded Windsor Lake for 3 hours plus today, mostly hiding behind a pole near
the swim beach to escape the wind watching and photographing gulls and terns
and eventually did a lap. Once comfortably numb it wasn't too bad. Amazing
disappearance of the big merganser flock. Still 150 or so
It was a bit busier today despite the winds. We had a few of the sheltered
nets open. Common Yellowthroat, Lincoln Sparrow, Bullock's Oriole, and
Black-chinned Hummingbird were the new birds of the season.
