Ann Troth and I got Ira's Rosy-finches this morning between 8:05 and 8:45. I
counted 5 Gray-crowned and 1 Hepburn's on the back feeder tray. We also saw the
Common Redpoll at the front thistle feeders at about 8:10 and again at 8:20 for
just a few minutes.

Stan,
I compared your photo with a photo in iBird Pro of a Cooper's Hawk tail
feather. It looks a feather shaft as opposed to an antenna. Cooper's are rarely
used in flight programs or by falconers to my knowledge. Nice photo.

Road my mountain bike around Cherry Creek Reservoir today. Fun to find
about 20 American Pipets on the rocks on the dam close to the marina. Since
there was some snow in the high country, maybe they are coming down.
Then about 8 Yellow-rump Warblers at the swim beach.

looking NW below dam. Thanks Joey for getting us on it. Way out there and

my back deck! Very nice. I have been doing the back yard here in my Highlands
Ranch home in Douglas county for the last week and that has not been much

At 1:15 PM the Purple Sandpiper is still in same location. Working at little
spit on the lake inlet. Around 15 Birders while we were there for the 30
minutes. Warm and calm at 37 degrees. Some were walking to the mouth of the
inlet and the bird was still foraging.

Yes, the view from the parking lot was good with a scope. There is no way the
bird can forage on the river with folks on the banks of the river. Steves map
and drawing are good guide lines. Hopefully many more Birders will get to see
it.

The Trumpeter Swan continues on the SE pond at Chatfield. Best viewed from the
Highline Canal on Rampart Range Rd. And we found 2 American White Pelicans at
the Heron overlook.

I would say juvenile Snow Goose. The bill looks a little big to be a Ross’s.
The grey blush on white plumage makes me think it is a juvenile. Sibley has a
good drawing.

Calm water gave wonderful views of the beautiful male White-winged Scoter.

The Vermillion Flycatcher was spotted at first Ranch house south of the
Fire Station on west side of South Peyton Highway. Photos on checklist soon.
We spent 2 hours at the fire station then drove south and found it.

Ann and I did see the Eastern Phoebe between the Euclid parking lot and the
half-pipe over the ditch this morning. Thanks to David for finding it and to
Art this morning for good tips on finding it. It was flycatching. There was a
Ruby-crowned Kinglet on the west side of Santa Fe.

Another decent vantage point is at the corner of S Pierce St and W Stetson Pl.
Both Loons were directly south from here and to the West of the red bouy. Plus
there was a Bald Eagle in the cottonwood.

Today 3/17 we had a pair of nesting Red Crossbills (Ponderosa Pine Type 2)
building a nest and eating the cones on the Ponderosa pines at DeWeese
Reservoir in Custer County. Is this early or normal? Photos, recording and
more details on list.
