i disagree. some things are higher. some are an excellent value.
high end men's shoes
xerox consumables
faucets
power boats
boat parts
some software
can all be excellent value.
lot of stuff, like power tools, computers, are lousy values
there are also a lot of scams now on ebay. ebay
Of course, this is an absurd way to run an auction. No RL auction
would ever take that $51 bid without asking for more. Seems like there
should be a simple way to solve the problem via software, such as
extending an auction if a bid is received within the last x seconds.
EBay should pay you money
I think what you're missing is this: snipers would useless if everyone bid
their maximum, but a lot of people don't. They just enter a bid that's a
little higher than the current bid and come back later if they're outbid.
So sniping is a way to use inefficiencies in the auction process to
Because when you enter a bid, anyone can manually outbid you, as long as he
has time. The earlier you do it, the more time people have to manually
outbid. If you do it at the last second, no one has time and only automatic
bids can outbid you.
If you really bid the maximum you were willing to pay
Good points. I have participated in eBay auctions but the final
sale price was NEVER what I would call reasonable.
Sometimes the eBay price is 50% less. Those are happy buys.
Recently I'm seeing much higher prices. Sometimes I thing the buyer would
have been better off buying retail.
It all depends on the item,.
I have noticed some companies are using Ebay to sell refurbished
items. Also some other companies are using Ebay to sell restocked
items they cannot sell on the shelf.

Okay. Well explained. I accept that.
Thanks.
Sorry, didn't get this until after previous message already sent...

Didn't you read the example? I *did* win the item. I paid *less* than my
maximum. I saved $40 over what would have happened if I had simply bid my
maximum. And this isn't hypothetical: I've won auctions in exactly this way,
and so have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of other people.

i just got this answer from a real person at eSnipe:
The problem was that when you updated your bidding password on one of our
servers our system did not update your status on our alternate server. I have
done this for you now. eBay has verified your bidding information on both
servers and

each auction i have ever been to has had a set of rules, but there does not
seem to be a standard set of rules.

Ebay's system is the way it is. I would not want it to change, as I
do not want to sit there watching bidding all the time.
Snipe systems allow you to last second bid and possibly get an item
for a better price.

What an interesting response. Sometimes I forget I'm living with a

never even been to a Real Life auction. They think the Ebay way is the
way auctions work.

Having been to a few earl life auctions I know how they work.
Ebay is not to simulate a real life auction. It is an auction venue.
If you are going to knock it come up with another site that is as
popular and makes as much money as theirs does.
You may not think it operates as a real life
I use MYIBAY which has a Firefox addon or a standalone. A useful feature is

the second highest price plus the auction's increment.

Agreed. I always search for a good price from a source other than eBay,
and many times I can find one that is sells the same item cheaper
There are two things to be said however. On eBay, running up the price
just seconds before the auction closes is a way of getting a better
price than one could by bidding earlier with a high bid in the hope that
other bidders will not exceed that bid by successive bidding.
Second, I am a

I've found that it's sometimes better to look at another man's

I do some upgrades though Ebay.
I try not to buy phones from the cell company. Every now and then we
upgrade when they have a deal. But otherwise we have bought and sold
phones on Ebay.
Some electronic equipment is OK too. I usually buy last years model

i have used eSnipe for a couple three years. about 6 months ago, i started to

eBay Username or Password Problem
eBay reports that the password or username you provided is not valid. It is too
late for this bid, but you can fix it before your next bid.

Try Hammer snipe.
What sniping does is make it possible to do a last second bid to a
higher amount without sitting there and watching the auction.
I use it when I know I might not be available when the auction is
coming to a close.
There have been quite a few auctions I have lost when a
