It is probably something like this http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHUCA202. This one looks like you could leave it hooked to your Stereo system while downloading to your computer. For some others Google up a search for- RCA USB audio interface. I have heard that the USB based interfaces work better than a direct connection to your sound card. I suspect that the box digitizes the signal on the fly while the sound card uses the CPU. On Dec 3, 2007 8:34 PM, Judy Cosler [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: yes, would like details...what is the small box? I am using a little device that connects a regular turntable to a computer. I have the turntable (a pretty good Denon model) hooked into a small box that provides the proper equalization curve for LPs and then feeds it via usb to an old computer I no longer use for anything else. I'm slowly converting all of my LPs to cd and mp3 via this process. I think this solution much better than a dedicated turntable. Of course, I don't listen to my LPs anymore, which makes using my only turntable for this process possible. Since I'm not at home now, I can't provide the details for the little box, but if you want them, just e-mail me. Jeff -Original Message- I'm looking to dub off some albums to CD and wanted to get recommendations for the best way to do this. I've heard of USB turntable, USB turntable/cassette combo, and USB converter. I would appreciate any thoughts and or recommendations. *** * * == QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in == * == the body of an email send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] == * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail? The Crosley is expensive because it is furniture as well. http://www.crosleyradio.com/prods/ec.html There are two cheaper $300 models and two of the $400 models with the CD Writer. Re: [CGUYS] No Internet for You [Was: MS IE 7]
While it's possible to code a site with all the excessive bells and whistles, commercial and nonprofit sites ultimately need to develop their pages to attract customers/clients, not the script-kiddies putting the sites together. It's not necessary to have lots of scripts and Flash to create an attractive a site, especially when basic HTML with a few simple extras will sell the product just as well. Techno-porn doesn't appeal to people who just want to get some information or to buy something. It belongs on game and video sites. You are out of your depth on this one. The problems with IE are fundamental errors with page geometry and how different page elements interact. It has nothing to do with scripts and Flash except that some developers use Flash as a way to avoid MS's bugs. Getting CSS to work properly would be a great boon to professional web authoring and save businesss a peck of dough. For example... http://www.positioniseverything.net/explorer/peekaboo.html A liquid box has a float inside, and content that appears along side that float. All is well, until it's viewed in IE6. Wah? Where's my content?! You reload the page, and nothing. When you scroll down, or perhaps switch to another window, upon returning to the 'scene of the crime' there it all is, fat 'n sassy! Note: This long standing bug has been suppressed in IE7 (released in late 2006), so the Peekaboo Bug is finally on the way out. IE6 will still exist however, and as long as it does we'll need to fix it. This effect may turn up in a number of different contexts. We would try to list them here, but the page would become very long, and make our heads hurt. * == QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in == * == the body of an email send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] == * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail? As flash memory is capable of holding more GB's of memory they will get smaller and lighter. However when you get into the 20GB and above theya re still HD based. They have shrunk the size of the HD (They are now about 1x1 instead of 2.5) I still prefer the larger (HD) sized players. Re: [CGUYS] USB Turntable?
The Apple external radios are what I was talking about as the cable ones. They are just too darn fragile to survive my prolonged use. I've gone through two of them already. There is a picture here -http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=103F2A75nplm=MA070G/D. I do like how it handles presets although I would like it to be able to save a few sets of presets so I could have all the gym's FM stations for the TV on a separate set. This is the sort of thing Apple would really rock at if Steve cared about it. I think the worst 'feature' of the thing is how the cable that attaches to dock like the iPod's USB data cable with the cord coming out of the center. It's not bad for something that will be laying on a table but for something designed to be used while moving around it isn't such a good Idea. It would work better if there were a small box at the dock with a second head phone jack or maybe a small antenna. Now it probably uses the headphone cord as an FM antenna. It is just a real kludge of a device to get a check box. It really lacks the Apple elegance that I have come to expect. There are too many occasions where I want a radio and end up carrying one in addition to my iPod.. That mass of cable is as big as some small radios I've owned. Heck it is bad enough to make me consider buying a Zune. On Dec 4, 2007 7:55 PM, Steve at Verizon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Actually, Apple does make an iPod Radio Remote for $49. Check the Apple Store. It goes between the iPod and the earphones. Gives you a radio display and allows you to set presets. I enjoy mine. (I readily admit you can probably find a non-iPod player with FM radio for around the same price. I still use my old iRiver for FM as well as recording.) Of course audible.com doesn't support the Zune which is a big draw back as well. * == QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in == * == the body of an email send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] == * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail?
