More information: I think I've found part of the problem (me), in that I have been putting my files in CMy Music and not all the way in the iTunes folder. I just assumed that when I imported the MP3's from My music, that they would automatically go into the iTunes folder but they didn't.

Ugh!!! I just took a look at the SD card standards description on Wikipedia and it's not pretty! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card It explains my mystery of not finding a mainstream non SDHC 4GB card. Apparently, mainstream vendors moved to SDHC when manufacturing that size.

Thanks for the Apple primer. I guess I wanted to make it harder than I thought it had to be (hey, I come from a Windows background :-( ). It looks like dragging a folder copies all the songs into iTunes while dragging a song actually deletes it from the folder. Good distinction to know.
