 Non-authoritative answer:
 bestguidedes.info mail exchanger = 10 217.20.163.50.

This is the problem, a MX record cannot be an IP address

Authoritative answers can be found from:

Please, why .info DNS violates RFC 1035, what could be the problem ?

this has nothing to do with .info, it has to do with the lack of proper

Sam already answered this question the last time you asked it.
The mail CLIENT sends this information one address at a time to courier,
courier tells the client at the time its sent that the address is
nonexistent. It is the mail CLIENTS job to tell you which one.

Do you know, how can I fix it? I want Courier to take the mail in any
case, and just to send back error msg, if error.

Courier can if your mail CLIENT tells it to. You are barking up the wrong
tree.

 Anton.

No. This is how SMTP is supposed to work.

You will have to either stop using a secondary MX, or reconfigure your
spam filter to drop unwanted mail, instead of rejecting it.

That's fine, but how does one set up a backup MX without a secondary MX?

a backup MX is not really needed anymore, everyone on the internet that is
running a mailserver should have a good enough connection to recieve mail
in a timely fashion. Even if your mailserver is not reachable for over a
day the sending mailserver will queue it up for typically many days before
you will start losing mail.

2005-05-23 Thread Tim Hunter

More Information on this, I turned on authlib's debug output...and I

sure find out why your vpopmail responds with vmysql: sql error[3]: MySQL
server has gone away

 mail1 authdaemond: received auth request, service=imap, authtype=login
mail1 authdaemond: authvchkpw: trying this module
mail1 authdaemond: vmysql: sql error[3]: MySQL server has gone away
mail1 authdaemond: vchkpw: user does not exist
mail1 authdaemond: authvchkpw: REJECT - try next module
mail1 authdaemond: FAIL, all modules rejected

I can assure you that the user DOES exist, and so does the
domain...because I can login via a pop3 client, just not using
 webmail.

 My setup:

 Courier-imap 4.0.2
 Courier-authlib 0.55
 PHP 5.0.4
 Apache 1.3.33
 Squirrelmail 1.4.4 and I tried 1.5.0
 Compatibility plugin
 secure_login plugin
 Vpopmail 5.4.10
 MySQL 4.1.12
 Slackware Linux 10.1
All software was installed from source.

The problem, which I have not seen anyone else state EXACTLY, is that
squirrelmail refuses to authenticate. Pop3 and smtp both work
perfectly fine via a pop3 email client, vpopmail is interfacing with
mysql just fine and I can check my mail using an email client. But,
as soon as I try to login with squirrelmail (and I even tried using
 sqwebmail) authentication fails.

I always get the same errors in my maillog:

 mail1 imapd: Connection, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
 mail1 imapd: LOGIN FAILED, user=, ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
mail1 httpd: Squirrelmail login failed for Username : , Password
 :
 mail1 imapd: Disconnected, ip=[:::127.0.0.1], time=5

(username and password were replaced by me, they were correct)

However, sometimes along with that I get this very familiar error:

mail1 authdaemond: vmysql: sql error[3]: MySQL server has gone away

Which I'm sure most of you have seen before in a few circumstances.
As I stated before, vpopmail works with mysql just fine, and I'm
triple and quadruple checked my squirrelmail username and password
that is being used to access the mysql database. I can't find any
information that helps me with this, I've searched and
searched...please give me an easy answer.

If you need more info, or anything clarified, please let me
know...this is driving me crazy! ;)

be able to create and write to the log file. Normally, you'd write

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

This other confusing thing is that maildroprc appears to be
 only processed

 coming in from
the Internet (destined for some domains whose mail Im
 virtually hosting)
seems to bypass the processing Ive put in maildroprc.

You probably specified a mail attribute for the accounts. Doing so
overrides DEFAULTDELIVERY, so maildrop won't be invoked for accounts
that have such an attribute. Instead, you should specify the home
for the account, and make sure that there is a ./Maildir/ folder
 inside that directory.

I just followed the instructions as per
 http://www.courier-mta.org/FAQ.html#virtual ... everything seems to
work, apart from getting the filtering to apply.

can you show us a sample user record that does work, and one that doesnt
work?
I am pretty sure you have a mail attribute set as well, remove that and
maildrop will work

Yes, one could use awstats then to evaluate them.

But, speaking of this, a question comes to mind that I was thinking
about for months now but had more urgent problems. On my system
courier (out of the .deb box) logs the same data into /var/log/syslog,
mail.log, mail.info which (together with maildrop, spamassasssin ans
fetchmail) renders hundreds of megabites of (triplicate) log data.
 My question:
Is it possible to tell courier to log say popd data into
 /var/log/pop3.log
 imap4 data respectively to /var/log/imap4.log
 smtp data to smtp.log
 etc...
without putting everything together into 3 different files. Or is it
not intended to be that way and I am doing something wrong?

from my syslogd.conf
*.*;auth,authpriv.none;\
mail.none;cron.none -/var/log/syslog

Also I would be grateful for a hint of where to find docs on U*X

man syslog.conf
or man syslogd or something similar

 thanks,

Re: [courier-users] RE: SMTP authentication on a per hosted domain basis

2004-08-11 Thread Tim Hunter

cant you just setup an ip address
that only accepts connections from the barracuda on port 25, rejects all others
and doesn't require auth?

 Original Message From: Keith WillisTo:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Wednesday, August 11, 2004 10:12
PMSubject: [courier-users] RE: SMTP authentication on a per hosted
domainbasis Thanks for the answer, and I
understand your point, but I think I wasn't clear on what I was looking
for. Let me provide an example. I currently
host about 30 domains. Most of the domains use SMTP authentication
for relaying, and some have IPs in the smtpaccess file.
What I would like to do is that if someone tries to send email
to domain xyz.com courier rejects the email unless they use
authentication. However, domain ABC.com does not require
authentication so any email directed to it could come in normally.
The reason for this is somewhat complex. We have a
Barracuda SPAM/virus firewall appliance (we are resellers for those of
you reading this - shameless plug). In essence, it is our only MX
record for many of the domains. For these domains, I want to
require the email to originate from the Barracuda firewall (it does
support SMTP authentication for delivery). For the domains that do
not use the Barracuda, they need to accept email normally. Also,
users that are sending mail from the Internet with dynamic IP addresses
need to be able to relay to courier with SMTP authentication so I cannot
simply block port 25 on the mail server IP. Some SPAMMERS bypass
the Barracuda and send directly to the mail server nullifying the
value of the Barracuda in many
cases.
My thinking is that if I could require SMTP authentication for
domains, only users that are authenticated could send email to certain
domains. For example, if user [EMAIL PROTECTED] attempts to
relay, he would be authenticated. If email from the Internet is
destined for xyz.com, it would have to hit the Barracuda and be filtered
before arriving at xyz.com (still delivered with SMTP
authentication). Mail to xyz.com that is not authenticated will
not deliver. However, if abc.com does not
pay for the Barracuda service, I want mail to deliver normally to them
whether we use SMTP authentication for relaying or not.
Does this make sense? Perhaps there is a way to do this
with maildrop or some other scripting means???

 Greetings!Does
anyone have any idea how to setup SMTP authentication on a per
hosted domain basis?
For example, I want certain domains to require SMTP
authentication while others do not. Is there a way
to do this in courier?? There is no
telepathic way for a server to determine with 100% certainty
what “domain” the connecting client belongs to. On the Internet,
nobody knows that you're a dog. Anyone can try connecting to any
server, and pretend to be anyone else. Thus, taking it
for granted that something like this could be done, all that
someone has to do is to pretend that he belongs to one of the special
domains that do not require authentication, and that's it.
Authenticated SMTP is used only for granting mail relaying privileges.
In this context, the actual domain is irrelevant. Either the
connecting IP address is defined in your smtpaccess file as one
that has relaying privileges, or the connecting client must provide a
valid userid and password, in order to receive relaying
privileges.

I need to send my outbound email to mail.bellsouth.net, however

Is there any way to specify to esmptroutes to use only the A
records? I hardcoded one of the IP addresses in the file and it
works fine, but I don't like that solution because it's going to
break if they change the IP addresses of their mail servers or
 remove the one I'm using.

These are the DNS responses I get:

 mail.bellsouth.net. 6617 IN MX 0 mx00.mail.bellsouth.net.
 mail.bellsouth.net. 6617 IN MX 0 mx01.mail.bellsouth.net.
 mail.bellsouth.net. 3487 IN A205.152.59.17
 mail.bellsouth.net. 3487 IN A205.152.59.16

 mx00.mail.bellsouth.net. 6617 IN A205.152.59.32
 mx01.mail.bellsouth.net. 6617 IN A205.152.59.33

You can explicitly specify 'mx00.mail.bellsouth.net' in esmtproutes.

Yes, but that won't work because mx00 and mx01 will not relay mail for
me. I need to send the mail to 'mail.bellsouth.net'. This means it
has to get to either 205.152.59.16 or 205.152.59.17. Is there any way
to do this without hardcoding one of those two IPs?

wouldn't it just be easier to complain to bellsouth that its mail
configuration is broken? how do you normally use them if they can't send
mail? I don't think this would just be limited to a problem with courier.

 Bowie

You shouldn't make your mail writeable to all, as long as your uid/gid match
whatever you have in your record in mysql everything works with proper
permissions. I didn't even think courier (or is it maildrop) would deliver
mail to a a+rw directory.

The process is however you want to make it, but its pretty much create a
record of a user, create the users home directory and Maildir with proper
permissions.
There are several admin style tools to automate this process, or you manage
your own. quica http://quica.sourceforge.net/ is a good example of one.

If you installed it as default, it is possible that you should be
looking in /usr/lib/courier/spool instead of /var/spool/courier.

I have never done a make upgrade, as I build my RPMs. Since
switching to RPMs, all of the files go where you'd expect them, or
configuration files are in /etc/courier, binaries in /usr/bin, spool
files in /var/spool/courier, and so on.

search for the msgq and check from there msgq/../tmp/ at least thats how

Yes, they need to be encrypted in the userdb file.

You must make sure that a Maildir directory (with the new, cur and

courier delivers any email. Otherwise courier will create a _file_
called Maildir, which you don't want. The best thing to do is to
create a Maildir in the /etc/skel directory so that each new user
 automatically gets a Maildir.

 Hi all!

I have a system (which hosts its own DNS) on which courier seems to be
throwing a lot of DNS errors when attempting to deliver to the local
 domain.

When I try to use the courier testmxlookup tool to test the local
domain, it reports a 'soft error'. This is also the case when I try
to look up any other domain I can think of, including domains that
definitely have a viable mx record, like 'google.com'.

If I use nslookup -q=mx mydomain.com then the local domain MX
record looks fine, and name resolution is working perfectly for all
the other systems on the machine.

How can I debug this? What could courier be asking for that isn't
 available?

Since you haven't given us any information about your system, I will make
the assumption you are using FreeBSD and you compiled courier with ipv6
support which is known to have problems
alternatively you might also have nameserver 0.0.0.0 in /etc/resolv.conf
since you said you are running it locally, try to change this to an actual
ip address

if the above is incorrect or does not help you, please post enough
information for us to help you this time

OK, now I know it is /usr/sbin/courierfilter which produce the error

How can I solv this problem ?

this is a problem with the package maintainer that you got your package
from, since it is not from source you would need to contact that person and
find out why its not working with your system

That's wrong. Unstable is always unstable, then as they work to make the
next release it moves into testing.
As for the original problem, I have testing on a few of my servers running

I have had strange problems with some backports.org packages however.

As for this topic can we close it or take it off list? We are horribly off

As far as I know, everything is running. After all, I can send this

that isn't a symlink is /usr/lib/courier/bin/sendmail (rpm makes sure
that I don't have any stray old versions laying around)

As for permissions, etc. I don't know. But now that you mention it,

probably the sticky bit on your sendmail is wrong it should look something
like this

I don't use the webadmin, so I cannot comment on that. I did have to
use Google to find this, the documentation was no great help here.
Contrary to some peoples comments, I find the documentation to be not
more than adequate, this is another example. That said, most software
 documentation is much worse.

I find the problem with the documentation is not that the information is not
there, but its difficult to find the setting that I need when i dont know
where its located.
I like to use google to search like this
site:www.courier-mta.org delivery queue
which should provide some detailed information, Sam could provide a google
search like this on the courier-mta.org site if he wants to :)

I'm not to sure this should go in the webadmin interface. There are so
many knobs to fiddle, either put them all in or just put in the most
 often used ones.

Hey everyone, nice to meet you, im sorry to just right to my issues but
the fact that i was having issues was the whole reason i found this
 mailing list.

whats going on is this: im setting up a Courier-IMAP server (yay!) and
im not clear on how to tell courier where to find users mailboxes..
etc/imapd.config didnt have a default maildir or anything that
resembled one, so i added my own (MAILDIR=/home/$USER) .. it didnt
work, maillog says (imapdlogin: exec: file not found) .. so what im
looking for is the correct syntax and the right file to edit .. id
 appreciate a hint, thanks!

this is defined by your authentication method, unless you use system
authentication which it would be $HOME/Maildir/

if you use a more flexible backend, such as sql or ldap you can specify the
field used for the maildir and set it to just about any directory you want

stand-alone maildrop for use with other MTA's.

courier does not change any dns settings, however if a domain is in
hosteddomains or in locals it is treated as such and will attempt to deliver
locally, unless overridden with esmtproutes (check details at
http://www.courier-mta.org/courier.html )
You seem to have a special case because as you have it configured you are
treating domains as locally delivered although they are not, you could
possbily put a global esmtproutes entry when the server is in fallback mode
and remove it when its working as the master.

Server.A is a machine that is configured as a Fallback Mail Server. If
the main.mailserver.dom is offline, dns A records change and Server.A
will be main.mailserver.tld itself. (Yes, multiple mx records should
be sufficient, but we use this fallback for webservers anyway so using
it for mailservers was a site-effect...)

So Server.A has always a fully functional courier configuration for
several domains, including example.com, waiting in hot standby mode
 for it´s combat order.

Now, just for some practical reasons and to not let the machine feel
so lonely, I am using this Server.A as the mailserver for some
private addresses. So I discovered, if I want to send mail to a
friendsdomain.tld, that is configured in esmptacceptmailfor and
hosteddomains on the same machine, it will never leave Server.A.

Note: dig mx friendsdomain.tld in this case will NOT point with any
hostname or ip to Server.A !

So, if I understand things right, courier seems to override infos from
mx record with the settings in /etc/courier.

Is this a feature? Can this be changed? What did i wrong?

If you want to discuss [dis-] advantages of the dns a-record-changing
fallback strategy, this should be a seperate thread but nevertheless
it would be very interesting to hear your opinions.

 Thanks for your attention!

 Have a nice day,
 Peter

comcast closed the connection, not much you can do but sit and wait. could
be temporary, could be a silly anti spam measure

Why would this be occuring, if theoretically 127.0.0.1 should be able
to relay to anywhere? Could the problem be with my esmtproutes?
 Currently, /usr/lib/courier/etc/esmtproutes looks like this:
 lava-net.com: [68.37.56.149]

as long as you want any mail for lava-net.com to be relayed to 68.37.56.149
thats fine

Am I doing something wrong here? Is there something I should be doing
that I am currently not? Is esmtproutes not syntactically correct?
 Thanks!

 Original Message From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]To:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Friday, January 30, 2004 5:56
PMSubject: [courier-users] maildrop under user daemon Greetings to all! I have been trying to get the
courier suite working for the past two weeks with modest results. I did
some serious RTFM, googled a lot, read this archives but I am hopelessly
stuck and in need of your help. I am using
the Debian Woody courier "out of the box" installed with apt-get using
virtual users with maildirs autheticated by mysql. After three
installations from scratch (Debian and all) I managed to get everything
to work except maildrop which is the essential link for spam and virus
filtering. Courier now accepts mails and delivers them to the correct
maildirs. Only it does not seem to trigger maildrop although in
/etc/courier/courierd DEFAULTDELIERY="| /usr/bin/maildrop" is set. No
logging or any other sign of life from the /etc/courier/maildroprc
file.
My first guess is that you have MAIL set in mysql, this will
overwrite defaultdelivery If I run maildrop as root from the
command line (# cat some_mail_file | maildrop V5)
it works like a charm and delivers the mail from
some_mail_file into $HOME/maildir/new. But apt-get installs courier
under user daemon. So when I "# su - daemon" and try the same I get
following error: "maildrop: Invalid home directory permissions - world
writable" (which is not true for "$ echo $HOME" gives /usr/sbin and this
has following permissions: drwxr-xr-x but who is going to argue with an
error message).
courier first switches to the uid/gid for the user before it
delivers I suspect that courier first tries to deliver using
the maildrop pipe and being daemon fails. So it reverts to its internal
delivery mechanism and delivers the mail successfully. But then probably
I am wrong. I am new to courier, new to mail servers, new to the
UNIX paradigma. I don't know how to make apt-get install courier under
the user courier or change this setting after installation. Generally
I have no idea what else to try.

dont Any input would be greatly
appreciated. Please help.
logs and a sample user would be greatly helpful

You can control where mail goes for a given domain by setting up your
 DNS MX records correctly.

i know that ... the problem is that for instance the Mydoom worm sends
itself directly to mail.domain.com bypassing the normal MX and
therefor bypassing my flitering system ..

take a look at http://www.courier-mta.org/couriertcpd.html specifically the

you can put these changes into smtpaccess which gets rebuilt with

to compile and install the server i have followed the

new
accounts to add and about the same number to remove. We're wondering if
there is a way to easily add/remove that number of users, can it be done
with a script or some tool? For daily maintaince we're using Quica.

look in quicas mass directory for importing, for removing you could just try
whipping out a .sql script.
or sql for both... its only a rdbms

 Thanks in advance,

This is a bounce from your machine to 6561.happymailerz.com, they are
refusing the connection not you.

I am using courier as an MTA for quite a while now. Works nicely!

Now a friend got himself one of this root servers and I suggested to
him to use courier for his pop3 boxes and for everything else.

I am looking for an easy method for him to create users on his box.
He just needs virtual mail users, that do nothing else but mail.
I don't think that can be done with webadmin or?

Plus, anyone knows a german howto? His english is not too good.

I think the ident timeout is over 30 seconds, perhaps
outlook doesnt like to wait?
The other
option would be to turn off ident lookups

Can some one pls give me some ideas for where to look for the

What are the correct permissions on Maildir ?

it needs to be owned by the uid/gid in your auth record

This problem only occurs when i use a LDAP user but if i use
a system user (with identical permissions -700-) i don't have this
 problem

 my authldaprc:

 LDAP_SERVER IP
 LDAP_PORT 389
 LDAP_BASEDN o=organization
 LDAP_AUTHBIND 1
 LDAP_TIMEOUT5
 LDAP_MAIL mail
 LDAP_GLOB_GID postfix
 LDAP_GLOB_UID postfix
 LDAP_HOMEDIRhomeDirectory
 LDAP_FULLNAME cn
 LDAP_DEREF never
 LDAP_TLS0

I am not familer with ldap, but the
LDAP_GLOB_GID postfix
LDAP_GLOB_UID postfix
seems to be a giveaway here, unless you specifiy the uid/gid in the users
record it looks like this is a default?

 # id postfix
 uid=51(postfix) gid=51(postfix) groups=51(postfix)

 anyone help me please?

 thanks!

Its not up to me to accept the patch, but I can see why you want it. In my

I now have a pretty little folder called alias that has the alias

isn't really a full big brother type thing. But it does give you
the ability to share the inbox for processing incoming mails and
 whatnot...

You need to be careful of permissions for this, and I don't know what would
happen if the folder is attempted to be removed.
as long as both users have the same uid/gid for courier this could be a
valid use, otherwise moving messages around will get the wrong uid/gid in
the real users folder.

I'm not sure what you mean by it not being legal but...

Two ways of doing this come to my mind.

 1. Either know all of your user's passwords or create duplicate
accounts for your administrator with the same Maildir. (very bad)
Depending on the number of accounts, this could require significant
increases in allowed connections, could swamp the server, etc. Just
 realize the potential costs...

 2. Create symlinks in your administrator's Maildir to each of your
user's mail. I'm not an expert, but I think this might work... just
be sure you name the links well. (better, but still bad)

Why do you really want to do this? If you need filtering, then
filter. If you need Antivirus, do it with an antivirus program, not a
user going in to each account.

Finally, be sure you have a good TOS that protects you as much as
possible. Also make sure you make it clear that employees may only
use the email server for business purposes, in a good Acceptable Use
 document.

You may be mixing up two different things. Let me make sure that
we're talking about the same thing. (Sorry if I'm insulting your
 intelligence! :-)
Maildirs are simply special sorts of folders that certain
 mta's (courier,
postfix, etc.) can deliver mail to (one message per file) and
 certain imap
servers (courier) can read. This has nothing to do with
 Inbox, Outbox, etc.
With this sort of setup your Inbox is a maildir, your outbox
 is a maildir, in
fact every folder you see in your mail client is really a maildir.

 Jeff

Thanks for taking the time. Okay, prehaps I got it wrong. I was
pretty sure that I'd read that the courier (and/or postfix???) would
take care of this for me. Why else must I specify the Sent and Trash
parameters in /etc/imapd?? Anyway, if it doesn't, it doesn't.. So
 moving swiftly on..

This is a client function.

First are you creating the folders inside of your INBOX? You set up
an account and you specify a HOME and MAIL directory. That MAIL
 directory is a
maildir. So let's say that the HOME directory for someone is
/home/mailusers/john and the MAIL directory is
/home/mailusers/john/Maildir. The MAIL directory is that
 user's INBOX. So
if you want to create a Drafts folder for this account then
 you would run

 maildirmake -f Drafts /home/mailusers/user/Maildir

After reading the man file, I thought I had a grip on this when I
tried it. The line I used was...Anyway, I deleted everything and
started all over again as per your instructions. This worked, but
with the net result that I had folders caled Drafts, Sent Items,
Outbox and Trash as *subfolders* of my Inbox (Because that is what
Outlook called). This looks a) messy and b) illogical.

What I would like is to have Drafts, Sent, Trash, etc as *sister*
folders to the Inbox. I tried to do this, and it is possible to but
Outlook still puts them all as a subdirectory of Inbox. Which doesn't
help. Is there a way to do what I want, or am I pissing into the
 wind?

http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/FAQ.html#namespace

In outlook this is the Root Folder Path: in your imap account options.

 Lydiard

That would create a maildir /home/mailusers/user/Maildir/.Drafts
which your clients should see as the folder 'Drafts'. Maildirs have
 permissions 700 so
make sure that you create the maildir as the proper user. If
 you create the
maildir as root but the account is owned by user john then
 your client
won't be able to access that folder.

All I know is some version of vpopmail has problems clearing
the old password out of memory..
A quick summary of what I remember from an old
posting...
A passwordnever gets cleared from the buffer so if a
10 char password is used then an 8 char password it appends the last 2 chars
from the 10 onto the 8 and therefore you get a bad password.

The archives have better more
detailed description of the issue. Last I heard the development versions
of vpopmail libraries have this fixed.

I am sure someone is going to
correct my summary with a better technical explaination. The fix was to
use a development build of vpopmail and recompile courier with vpopmail
support. Another workaround is to configure courier to use a sql backend
and tap in to the database directly and work around the broken vpopmail
libs.
At any rate, it happens in both sqwebmail now as wellm without
even using courier or imap. So it’s an issue with something else,
so now I’m in the wrong list I guess. Thanks for the help

the issues I have been having since I setup courier/horde.
Would not authenticate sometimes, kick me back to the login prompt
sometimes, not work at all…etc. I have three
domains setup and it seems that if there is an email address with 6
characters or less in the e-mail address before the @, it will cause
issues or wont work at all. If there are 7 characters or more,
everything seems to work fine. I have tested it by creating
new accounts on all three domains, and the ones with 6 characters or
less I couldn’t login to horde, but if its more than 6 characters,
seems to be no issues. It’s not just in IMP; it’s also in any
e-mail client. The logs don’t say anything informative. This sounds alot like the problems when using an older
version of vpopmail as the backend. If this is the case upgrade
your vpopmail, if not how about more info?
Anyone understand this at all?? Thank

 Hi All,

I am having problems with sqwebmail authentication. I've done this
before on other systems without problems, but it's not working on this
 one.

Red Hat 9, sqwebmail 3.6.0, MySQL

I have a database defined in MySQL. I can login to that database
using the userid and password specified in authmysqlrc, and do
a query to get a password, so I know the db is working.

When I connect to the server:

 http://webmail.server.dom/cgi-bin/sqwebmail

I get connection refused messages and the following logged in
the apache Access Log (NOT the error log!)

 GET /cgi-bin/sqwebmail HTTP/1.1 303 0 - Mozilla/5.0 Galeon/1.2.7
 (X11; Linux i686; U;) Gecko/20030131

The 303 error indicates a redirection. Not sure what that means,
 exactly.

You must have compiled sqwebmail with the option to force ssl connection
which means that its trying to redirect to
https://webmail.server.dom/cgi-bin/sqwebmail

I can get a cgi-test program in the same directory without problems,
so I don't THINK it's a problem with Apache, but I'm not sure.

 Any suggestions?

 Thanks!

 -Scott

then in /etc/passwd or does it sound like courier is not using userdb
at this point in my configuration at all? Also I'm using 0.37.3 - I
know it needs to be updated. Thanks!

try quica, its for the mail suite, not sure how well it would work for

Re: [courier-users] Still: vpopmail error when ./configure-ing courier-imap

2003-10-14 Thread Tim Hunter
Christian Poecher wrote:
 Hi there,

I still cannot run configure of courier-imap. It terminates like
before at the configure file for authlib.

To get it working I searched the web and saw other people had this
error, too. They suggested to change the configure file of authlib,
but that entry does not exist in my version of courier-imap.

 Then I deleted /var/temp/vpopmail-toaster-5.3.8-buildroot/, which
only contained empty directories anyway. I did this because I thought
configure might have set $vpophome to this dir by error. It didn't
help either. Later I discoverd configure does not create the dir I
 deleted.

I noticed there is a vpopmail user and a vchkpw group on my sytem. I
cannot say wether they are made my SuSe or by the configure file.

I saw a comment in the configure file, that questions regarding
vpopmail are ignored on this list, but this seems to be a problem in
the courier-imap configure rather than vpopmail.

having the vpopmail user and group makes the courier configure detect you
want vpopmail support, if you are not using the user/group delete them, I
believe this can also be skipped as a configure option, its all in the docs.

My system is SuSe 8.1. I want to set up Postfix, with MySQL and
 Courier-IMAP for virtual users.

Can anyone help me to get the configure running? Does anybody know
what vpopmail-toaster is compared to the normal vpopmail? Do I have to
install vpopmail before I build courier? What is the authlib stuff
for? Can I exclude it from building (and configuring)?

vpopmail is not required by courier, if you dont need it compile without it.

 TIA, chris

does not exist - upgrade vpopmail to the current version or fix the
 permissions on this file
configure: error: /bin/sh './configure' failed for authlib

I 'fixed' the permissions on .../home/vpopmail/etc by giving everyone
all permissions, but still I got the same error. I looked for a newer
version of vpopmail, but the latest stable version is 5.3.1, so I
don't think that is the problem.

 Any idea on this issue?

I read this original email as a nice email to suggest a way to other users

debate, Miguel was just posting his experiences as an admin in hopes to help
another admin in the future.
Please don't turn this into a flame war.

Re: [courier-users] How can I test Maildrop?

David Bruha wrote:
 Hi,

I have to set local mail fitering rules for several users and I have
thought it to be a simple job with maildrop. What I did is:

 1. in /etc/courier/courierd I have set
 DEFAULTDELIVERY=| /usr/local/courier/bin/maildrop

 where
 MAILDROPDEFAULT=./Maildir

 /etc/courier/maildrop consists of:
 /usr/local/courier/bin/maildrop

 2. in test user's home I have created .mailfilter file with 0600
 permission consisting of:
 VERBOSE=9
 logfile filter.log
 log mailfilter started

 if (/^From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]/)
 {
 cc !root
 }

All mail users are virtual users stored in mysql database.

fyi if you have maildir set in mysql it will ignore DEFAULTDELIVERY

Now if I understand it correctly, this test mailfilter should write to
$HOME/filter.log message mailfilter started and if the sender is
[EMAIL PROTECTED], then also send a copy of this mail to root.

However, it looks as if courier ignores this file - nothing is logged,
no mail comes to root and no error is logged. Actually
 /var/log/mail.log states successfull delivery.

In the process, I've noticed that Courier-IMAP handles the INBOX and
subfolders a bit differently than UW-IMAP. In particular, all the
folder I'm able to create and modify are stored under the INBOX. Some
mail clients try like such things as Sent, Trash, Drafts, and so on,
to be in the root of the IMAP connection--that is, at the same level
as the INBOX rather than a subdirectory of it. I have the same
problem if I try to create a folder manually, too. The error is:

The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded:
 Invalid mailbox name.

Otherwise, I'm able to do everything I need to as long as I do it
 within the INBOX directory structure.

Can Courier-IMAP be configured to allow folders to be created at the
 same level as the INBOX?

I think this is what you are looking for
http://www.inter7.com/courierimap/FAQ.html#namespace

This is a function of the IMAP client, look in the courier-imap docs on how
to configure most clients.

are you trying to deliver to any case or authenticate against?
locallowercase will make the values lowercase before it handles the
delivery, if your values are uppercase in your database you will probably
have to change them, make a view or a custom query.

Just a guess: configure postgresql so that it performs case
insensitive matches on text fields (I don't know how to do this with
postresql, but it should be possibile since most DBMS allow this).
