Previous thread: Colorado's "heroes"

Fellow Lollards,

In a message dated 99-04-25 09:37:01 EDT, revcoal spins:
I've actually admired Davis' way of dealing with the press...and
yes, I spotted right off that he was bluffing every time he said "I
don't know about that" and "I have no information regarding that"

Let's first acknowledge Revcoal's apparently vast understanding of
police procedure. From reading Revcoal's comments, this person
must have previous experience in the following fields:

 1) Telephonic Emergency Management
 2) Press Conference Protocols
 3) Dispatch Assignment
 4) Crime Scene Management and Control

If you have not studied the above areas in detail; if you have not been
officially trained in the same; We are forced to presume that you are
an armchair quarterback-- spewing opinions based on what one might
have learned from watching Baywatch Nights and T.J. Hooker.

None of Revcoal's opinions can change a single fact.

 1) The police entered the LIBRARY, several HOURS
after the initial flurry of bullets took flight.

 2) Police waited outside, continuing to INSTRUCT THOSE INSIDE
to fend for themselves through the 911 dispatch operator.

 3) The heavily armed and bullet-proofed S.W.A.T. [team] waited
outside--- while shots rang out for AT LEAST TWO hours.

 4) Some students were inside for approximately THREE HOURS.

 5) Police stood by, KNOWING there were innocent, UNARMED
men, women, and children inside the buildingAS SHOTS
CONTINUED TO RING OUT FOR SEVERAL HOURS.

 6) Police did not secure this building for almost SIX HOURS.

Those are the facts, and pointing out minor discrepancies with
a small portion of reports, does not change the overall picture.

Deal with it.

In a message dated 99-04-25 09:37:01 EDT, revcoal spins:
I like it that Davis doesn't seem to be a robot parroting the
'official' line...*...I'd be really bothered if he was spoonfeeding
the press (and hence the public) packaged 'answers'...

Comments like these above, truly reveal Revcoal's abscence
of insight and lack of common sense for what is taking place.

The "official" line *IS*:

 1) "I don't know".
 2) "I am not aware at this time"
 3) "I am not sure"

And these *ARE* the very lines that Davis
"roboted" and "spoonfed" to the press.

There is a distinct separation between parroting versions of
"I don't know", and at least acknowledging what has become
the common stock of public knowledge through not only the
first hand reports of students, but those of adults as well.

In a message dated 99-04-25 09:37:01 EDT, revcoal spins:
he's (Davis) been leaving open the possibility of more than 2
people having done the shooting and bombing on Tuesday, and
that Harris and Klebold may NOT have died by their own hands.

Initially, the official police statements on the subject of
"other suspects", was a FLAT OUT, "NO, there are no
other suspects, both suspects are deceased."

While Davis' repeated "I don't knows" have not ruled out the possibility
of other suspects, it is a far cry from a purposeful intent of -- "leaving
open the possibility of more than 2 people"-- as Revcoal has attempted
to IMPLY-- and would *like* us to believe.

Secondly, the truth of the matter is that police did not begin to
acknowledge the possibility of another assailant, UNTIL the
public outcry on numerous radio stations (and various TV
interviews with eyewitnesses), made it clear that Coloradans
were not going to be brainwashed into forgetting facts like so
many of those in Oklahoma City were.

Davis dodges practically every single question, and
when asked if he is going to come back with some
REAL answers, Davis says that he has no need of
writing down the questions that he failed to answer,
because, (afterall), he has a good memory.

To this, Revcoal stated the following

In a message dated 99-04-25 09:37:01 EDT, revcoal spins:
Which was his way of saying "You'll get the answers on OUR
schedule, not YOURS..."...again, since this is an ongoing invest-
igation, I have no problem that he's not sucking up to the media
by giving them what they want, just so he can become a media
darling...That is called PROFESSIONALISM...

We must evidently add the title of professional psychic to the
already growing list of Revcoals assumed talents. We are most
fortunate to "really know" what he was "actually saying" via our
new talented medium.

What is the purpose of holding a press conference?

If a press conference is held to unleash FACTS, then we have
no need to "read between the lines" of "what he meant to say."

If the purpose is to buy time and string along facts and make
statements--which at base deny the truth of [now] well known
eye-witness accounts, then Davis held an excellent press
conference. And this, Revcoal calls "professionalism".

In a message dated 99-04-25 09:37:01 EDT, revcoal spins:

Newt Gingrich on America's Military Vulnerability

On Dividing Our Military Budget into Defense and Policing

 America's Military Vulnerability

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has suggested America would be well
served if we now thought about our military budget as being two parts:
 the
Defense Budget and the Policing Budget.

The Defense Budget is for those expenditures to protect America, our
economic interests overseas, and the integrity of our security interests
 everywhere.

The Policing Budget is for those expenditures to keep peace around the
world and to intervene in conflicts where we must act because no other
national can or will do so.

President Clinton has created a national security emergency, neglecting
 the
overall Defense Budget while stretching our troops around the world.

 The evidence:
 * America is dangerously close to running out of Air Launched Cruise
 Missiles

 * More than one half of the B-1B's at Ellsworth Air Force Base cannot

mission because they lack critical replacement parts
 --House Armed Services Committee

 * America is diverting planes from their patrols over the "Iraqi No-Fly
Zone" in order to meet the requirements of the mission in Kosovo
 --House Armed Services Committee

 * Less than a month into a "small" operation, President Clinton is
 already
calling up 33,000 reservists to active duty
 --House Armed Services Committee

 * The U.S.S. Enterprise nuclear Aircraft Carrier set sail short 400

I strongly agree, at least in one essential, with Mr. Ex-Speaker on this
one. Our ability to intelligently discuss military operations would be
vastly improved by dividing our discussion into two realms, and using
different language in the two cases may be the quickest way to
accomplish this. I suggest we divide all military operations into those
authorized by the Constitution and those not so authorized, and entitle
the two categories "legal" and "illegal".

Oh, wait... I guess I'd already done that.

Huh.

Women for Rape Sought by Serbs

By ELLEN KNICKMEYER
.c The Associated Press

BRAZDA, Macedonia (AP) -- City by city and village by village, Serbs are
hunting down young women to rape as they loot, empty and burn Kosovo's ethnic
Albanian communities, women escaping beyond the province's borders say.

International monitors, war crimes investigators and NATO all are reporting
numerous accounts of rapes in Kosovo -- atrocities that Yugoslav and Serb
officials deny.

Witness testimony so far indicates the rapes in Kosovo are ``neither isolated
nor incidental,'' said Patricia Sellers, a U.N. war crimes prosecutor at The
Hague, Netherlands, whose workers are gathering the first accounts.

``When the police entered the town, that was the first question they asked:
'Are there any women here?''' said Valbona Rrustemi, 19, of the southern
Kosovo town of Urosevac.

Rrustemi fled Urosevac with her family April 16, the day after two girls came
running through her family's garden, saying Serb police were after them, she
said.

Minutes later, police knocked at the family's door, asking if there were any
young women, she said. Her father said no while she hid, Rrustemi said.

Word later reached her of four Urosevac women who had been caught by the
Serbs that day, she said. They included a friend who was raped in the street,
Rrustemi said. She named the friend and gave her age, 22.

The woman's cousins had confirmed the attack, Rrustemi said. No one has heard
of the woman or her immediate family since.

``I don't know what happened to them. I hoped they escaped,'' said Rrustemi,
one of several women at the Brazda refugee camp to give accounts of rapes in
Urosevac.

NATO, also citing refugee accounts, contends there have been several
instances of mass rapes, well-organized on at least a local level:

At Djakovica, near the Albanian border, Serb soldiers allegedly took women
from their families and sent them to an army camp where they were held for
repeated rapes.

In Pec, a local Serb commander allegedly held ethnic Albanian women at a
hotel, organizing a schedule by which his soldiers could come to spend an
evening.

At an ammunition factory and ferronickel plant at an unspecified site in
Kosovo, 100 women allegedly were still being held as of mid-April.

In many cases, word that Serbs were separating ethnic Albanians into groups
of women and men was enough to send families fleeing -- making rape a means
of emptying communities, as much as massacres, arson and looting.

``The intent is to not just to intimidate and humiliate the actual physical
victim but also to somehow intimidate those who are standing there either
looking at it or hear about it,'' Sellers said.

The United Nations first prosecuted rape as a separate war crime after the
1992-95 Bosnian war. In the first case to focus exclusively on rape, the U.N.
War Crimes Tribunal for former Yugoslavia sentenced a Bosnian Croat
paramilitary chief in December to 10 years in prison for failing to stop
subordinates' 1993 rape of a Bosnian Muslim woman.

Serb forces in Bosnia were widely accused of using rape as a means of
``ethnic cleansing.'' Sellers said it was too early to tell if rapes in
Kosovo were as widespread as in Bosnia.

Refugees from Kosovo say the targeting of women continued even as their
convoys were being escorted out of the province.

In one instance, Serbs looking for women stopped vehicles of residents from
the area of the southern city of Gnjilane en route to the border, but the
convoy's Serb escorts protected the women, villagers said.

Many of the accounts of Serbs seeking out women to rape come from people who
escaped rather than those who were caught.

So far, reports gathered by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in
Europe number in the dozens, ``and not many dozens,'' said Jorgen Grunnet, a
spokesman for the head of the OSCE's Kosovo mission.

Sellers predicts the numbers will rise.

``The incidents are very close right now. We notice that people are much more
willing to come forward several months ... after sexual violence has
happened,'' she said. ``Right now, some of their priorities might be actual
physical survival.''

Accounts of rapes are increasing, including reports from refugees arriving
Sunday in Macedonia that Serb paramilitaries raped four girls ages 15-20
before killing them, along with about 15 other people of their village of
Ribar i Vogel, last week.

War-crimes investigators will also have to cope with the horror with which
ethnic Albanian culture regards rape. Kosovo Albanians said many victims may
be too shattered to talk, particularly women from villages rather than
cities.

Teuta Beselica, a student forced from Pristina and now living in Skopje,
Macedonia's capital, was one of many to call rape the worst crime imaginable
-- a ``disaster'' to Kosovo Albanian families.

``It's the worst thing you can do to an Albanian male, basically,'' Beselica
said. ``Killing a man or a woman is not half as

S. Korean Police, Strikers Clash

By KYONG-HWA SEOK
.c The Associated Press

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- Thousands of riot police marched onto a Seoul
university campus Sunday, touching off violent clashes with striking subway
workers and sympathizers who fought back with rocks and firebombs.

Several workers were injured but none of them seriously, police said.

The strikers are protesting government-ordered corporate reforms that are
expected to result in mass layoffs.

The subway strike was ruled illegal because it did not observe a mandatory
15-day cooling-off period. The government gave the striking subway workers
until Monday to return to work or face automatic dismissal.

``About half of the striking subway workers have not returned to work. We'll
start action against them,'' Seoul Mayor Ko Kun said after the 4 a.m. Monday
deadline.

Prime Minister Kim Jong-pil called an emergency meeting of Cabinet ministers
Monday to discuss the next move.

At state-run Seoul National University on Sunday, 2,000 riot police, backed
by armored vehicles, marched 200 yards onto the sprawling campus to try to
disperse 2,500 workers who have been holed up there for a week.

About 100 workers and students fought back, wielding steel pipes and hurling
rocks and firebombs. They fled after setting fire to wooden chairs and
garbage bins piled up as barricades.

A police helicopter cast its searchlights over the campus and broadcast
warnings that workers would face arrest and punishment if they didn't
disperse voluntarily.

Police said their scare tactics were working. After two similar raids on
Sunday, the number of workers at the school dropped from 5,000 to 1,000, they
said.

Still, strike leaders taking refuge at a Roman Catholic church in central
Seoul were defiant.

``There will be no backdown until our demand for no layoffs is accepted,''
Suk Chi-soon, head of the 11,000-member Seoul subway union, said earlier.

Tension appeared to ease considerably after the 40,000-member union of Korea
Telecom, the nation's main telephone operator, abruptly decided to shelve
their strike plans four hours before they were to have taken effect.

The telephone union gave no formal explanation, but local media said the
union's leaders believed that they had failed to build consensus among
rank-and-file members for their strike plan. The leadership later resigned.

The telephone union's decision dealt a serious blow to plans by a powerful
umbrella labor group to escalate protests drastically this week in support of
the one-week-old Seoul subway strike.

But the militant Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, which claims a
membership of 500,000, said that more than 30,000 auto and shipbuilding
workers will go ahead with strike plans this week.

"Russia has threatened to sever relations with NATO if any of the Baltic

NATO Raises Bar for New Members

By HARRY DUNPHY
.c The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The door to NATO remains open to new members, but they may
find getting over the threshold more difficult than the alliance's three
newest members did.

The Membership Action Plan approved by participants at the weekend NATO
summit provides no timetable for accession of new candidates nor any
guarantee they will get in.

Rather, it establishes a program of activities designed ``to assist aspiring
countries in their preparations for possible future membership.'' These
include commitments to strengthen democracy, human rights, democratic control
of the armed forces and programs to improve military cooperation with the 19
NATO countries.

In effect, what NATO appears to have done in the 10-page plan is to raise the
bar for alliance membership.

``This provides a reality check on these nations' idea that NATO is their
Father Christmas,'' said Daniel Plesch, director of the British-American
Security Information Council, a liberal research group that specializes in
European defense issues.

Romanian Foreign Minister Andrei Plesu said he was not satisfied with the
plan because it does not include a precise schedule for admitting new
members.

``The time horizon is there but this is not going to satisfy our wish for an
exact deadline,'' Plesu told the Romanian private news agency Mediafax.

But Slovenia's Foreign Minister Boris Frlec does not agree that starting
accession negotiations now will become more difficult.

``We see the plan as a paved road leading to membership and we feel we
already have fulfilled a number of the criteria it contains,'' Frlec said.
``It is meant to provide concrete help to countries that have ambitions to
join.''

Vygaudas Usackas, the political director of Lithuania's Foreign Ministry,
said the plan commits NATO members to helping countries that want to join
through mutual engagement.

``These are the guidelines we have been waiting for,'' Usackas said.

In the summit communique, the prospective new members are named in groups.

They are Romania and Slovenia, which almost made it in at the last NATO
summit, in Madrid, Spain, in 1997, when the alliance decided to admit Poland,
Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Then come the three Baltic states, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Bulgaria
and Slovakia get separate mention for ``positive developments'' since Madrid,
meaning they have become more democratic.

Rounding out the list are Macedonia and Albania, which are bearing the brunt
of the refugee exodus from Kosovo but have no serious chance of joining for
at least a decade.

Macedonia's President Kiro Gligorov sharply criticized NATO for not inviting
his country to join NATO, saying the alliance had shown no appreciation for
Macedonia's efforts to qualify for membership.

``Macedonia has been circumvented and has again been put in last place,''
Gligorov told reporters Sunday.

Slovenia and Lithuania are most often cited as being at the top of the list
under a plan that would take in one southern European country and one
northern one.

But admitting Lithuania, which like its two Baltic neighbors were part of the
former Soviet Union, could provoke a crisis with Russia. It has threatened to
sever relations with NATO if any of the Baltic states join NATO.

Whatever their chances of membership now, none of the prospective new members
are likely to be admitted until early in the next century, officials in these
countries have acknowledged. NATO members and officials have said the
alliance needs time to get used to working with its three newest members.

Before the summit, countries that want to be in the next wave of expansion
said they expected NATO members to provide them with a road map setting out
what requirements they had to meet to join.

They were not disappointed. The Membership Action Plan outlines what aspiring
countries have to do to strengthen their candidacies.

The MAP, is a ``practical manifestation of the Open Door and has five
chapters ... that highlight mechanisms through which preparation for possible
eventual membership can be carried forward,'' the document says.

Yet the Clintonblair stomps on, heedless of international law even while

Cracks Showing in Still-Strong NATO

By BARRY SCHWEID
.c The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- As NATO celebrated its 50th birthday and brandished its
might over Yugoslavia, cracks showed through the brave front. In a polyglot
alliance that no longer confronts the Soviet bear, unity does not come
easily.

``This summit was an impressive demonstration of unity despite the fact that
some skeptics feared it would not be wise to hold a summit in times of war,''
said German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, elected only last year and hence
new to the bloc.

But even Schroeder, like French President Jacques Chirac, who is more vocal
in his independent views, did not yield submissively to the hard-line
leadership of President Clinton and his loyal friend, British Prime Minister
Tony Blair.

``Military interventions must be legalized by a U.N. mandate as a rule,'' the
German leader said, reflecting a widespread view that NATO lacks the
authority to stop merchant vessels carrying oil to Yugoslavia and to send
armed peacekeeping troops to Kosovo without at least the approval of the
United Nations.

Where a smaller NATO could close ranks easily to confront the Soviet Union,
the now 19-member alliance, with its door open to even more members, has to
struggle to work together when the issues no longer are black and white.

Even the otherwise airtight bonds between the United States and Britain were
loosened over the question of whether NATO should send combat troops to
Yugoslavia to try to deliver a knockout punch after more than a month of NATO
bombardment.

France and Britain had signaled before the summit that they favored using
ground troops in the inconclusive conflict, but Clinton much prefers
depending for now on an air campaign; so the contentious issue was shelved.

There was no way, though, to disguise the fissures over the American
initiative to mount a blockade to keep oil shipments from getting to
Yugoslavia. Stopping neutral vessels normally is an act of war, and Chirac
registered his reservations.

Insisting also on specific approval of the U.N. Security Council for
peacekeeping operations, Chirac said: ``NATO cannot and will not be able to
act without the authorization of this international organization.''

The United States contends the authority to intercept oil tankers at sea and
to deploy NATO peacekeeping troops in Kosovo is derived from a U.N. embargo
and other Security Council resolutions.

Asked at a news conference whether NATO would need a new resolution to
intervene outside the territory of its members, NATO Secretary-General Javier
Solana said, ``No.''

Basically, the U.S. view on peacekeepers prevailed, but the communiques and
other statements NATO issued at the summit reflected some of the divergence
that marked the private deliberations of the leaders.

Initially, the Clinton administration had in mind a NATO force, supplemented
by troops from Russia and some other non-members.

This was transformed at the summit to a statement that ``NATO remains ready
to form the core of an international military force.''

In a little-noticed ripple of discord, meanwhile, Turkey forced the allies to
guarantee that it and other allies that are not in the European Union would
be consulted before NATO troops are sent into emergency action.

Greece, which came into the summit more impressed than any of the other
allies with a potential cease-fire and other proposals floated by Yugoslav
President Slobodan Milosevic, fell in with the non-compromise NATO stance on
Kosovo.

Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema, who also was considered a bit wobbly
before the summit, concurred as well.

Italian warplanes are participating in the attacks on the Serbs and,
dramatically, so is the German Luftwaffe, the first battle campaign for
German forces since World War II.

First off, anyone remember CNN et al doing nonstop,
no-commercial-interruptions coverage of the funerals of kids killed in
previous school shootings?

Secondly, in catching CNN's broadcast of Rachel Scott's funeral yesterday,
I found it interesting at the end, when they had the 'mime' portrayal of
the Easter story, that they said Ms. Scott had performed it 3 weeks
before, AT THE HIGHSCHOOL...

Three weeks ago was Easter...so, was Ms. Scott's performance part of an
Easter pageant put on by the school? Even if it was part of a generic
talent show put on by the school that just happened to occur during the
Easter season, it's interesting that a PUBLIC SCHOOL would have allowed
such a blatantly 'Christian' performance to have been put on...

The Tomlin kid's funeral was the day before, also at a conservative
Christian church with a fundamentalist bent...and it was stated that the
kid spent his spare time as a Christian youth counselor...

So while the media trumpets that the shooters targeted 'minorities and
jocks', we have two victims who seem to have been openly Christian, and
who made it well-known that they were Christian...

It will be interesting to find out how many of the other victims may also
have been overtly Christian...

Remember the prayer-group that got gunned down at Paducah?

None of Revcoal's opinions can change a single fact.

 1) The police entered the LIBRARY, several HOURS
after the initial flurry of bullets took flight.

Yes, and if you think I am DEFENDING what the police did on the 20th, you
are mistaken...

But the event now being done, what I was responding to was your rant
against what is being provided (or, more accurately, NOT provided) in the
PD's press conferences...my contention is that just because they
obviously screwed up on the 20th, they should not now further screw up by
revealing details of the investigation just to suck up to the media...

And what I've noticed is that when the media is trumpeting some new
'fact', such as the supposed suicide note, that in the press conferences
the spokesman is NOI rising to the bait and confirming -- or denying --
the existence of the note, the contents of the note, and whether it's
valid or not...

Because if he did, he may reveal to those who were also involved in the
shootings exactly what the police do, and do not, know...

Because even tho it was later announced that the suicide note was a hoax,
it is STILL evidence, as it may have been sent by someone who was also
involved, and who's intent on throwing investigators off their track...

So anyone conducting a press conference has no business discussing with
the media (and hence the public) that the note was considered a hoax,
until its validity, or lack thereof, had been conclusively determined,
and an investigation into who exactly had sent it when was conducted.

 3) The heavily armed and bullet-proofed S.W.A.T. [team] waited
outside--- while shots rang out for AT LEAST TWO hours.

Again, if you think I am defending this action -- or lack thereof -- you
are mistaken...

 5) Police stood by, KNOWING there were innocent, UNARMED
men, women, and children inside the buildingAS SHOTS
CONTINUED TO RING OUT FOR SEVERAL HOURS.

Yes, and we've been told they didn't do anything because they feared for
their own lives...so why did they take the job? Seems to me someone
wanting to be a cop, especially a SWAT cop, is agreeing to be paid by the
taxpayers just to do that very thing, to take the risk of being harmed or
even killed themselves, to defend and protect the public...

At least I know how to spell 'absence'...

And again, what makes you feel the cops HAVE to reveal details of an
ongoing investigation to you?

The "official" line *IS*:

 1) "I don't know".
 2) "I am not aware at this time"
 3) "I am not sure"

And these *ARE* the very lines that Davis
"roboted" and "spoonfed" to the press.

No, it was the response of someone inexperienced in dealing with the
major media who didn't want to reveal exactly what the cops know or don't
know, because if he did, then he'd be tipping the PDs hand to anyone else
involved in the shootings who the cops are watching...

So instead of giving any sort of answer which might compromise the
ongoing investigation, Davis instead lamely answered 'I don't know',
'I am not sure', etc. Lame answers, but not for a lame reason...

You're too used to LA cops who play up to the media, more concerned with
becoming pseudo-stars by playing up to the media and saying more than
they should about a current case, than in maintaining professionalism...

There is a distinct separation between parroting versions of
"I don't know", and at least acknowledging what has become
the common stock of public knowledge through not only the
first hand reports of students, but those of adults as well.

But what is 'common stock of public knowledge' is part of an ongoing
investigation, and there's no reason we should expect the cops to
COMPROMISE that investigation (and hence risk not getting anyone else
involved) by chatting it up with the media airheads...

Initially, the official police statements on the subject of
"other suspects", was a FLAT OUT, "NO, there are no
other suspects, both suspects are deceased."

No, what I heard were various MEDIA outlets claiming that was what the
police said...but in every press conference, Davis pointedly NEVER said
they had conclusively determined that there were only 2 suspects, that
they were still trying to 'find that out'...again, an answer that one
should expect, since why should the cops tip off other perps that the

''Basketball Diaries'' already was cited as a factor in the shooting two

In the wake of this latest tragedy, Mr. Brode urges taking a wide look.

Seems to me it was written quite a few years ago. But then, I guess highschool

Re: [CTRL] Colorado's heroes

1999-04-26 Thread Colleen Jones

 -Caveat Lector-

This is one of the things I had to let go; in her job she met and
exchanged views with many people; there were people with whom she got
close, that I did no trust who were Gordon Novel types; she trusted
everybody.

I raised enough hell and turned into a screaming banshee until I got to
hear the tapes, and was sent the entire report.

The fact that Jeanne Dixon sat that close to her was it a coincidence.
And what happened when she left the table; did someone in a joke do
something and put something in a drink, I do not know. I herd this
after she died from a person at the table...a lot of tears were shed and
people from Washington sent a lot of flowers; her job was important but
her salary certainly did not keep up with her job She had an IQ in the
upper 10 percent, but she was also very innocent and trusted everyone.

She dialed 911 for help; and and the Fire Chief to this day - recently
retired - still maintains she was dead for 2 house which was impossible.
And then, the police told me 911 did not tape calls, which I knew was a
lie.the police went in her home after the squad called, and took
pictures, going into every room in the house; her house had been
ransackedshe had a new place with new carpeting just installed

In reading the reports, I could see they were scaredI sat in a room
in the police station calling them every name in the world, bastards,
ignorant, etc., nothing stronger than thtand they just sat there and
took it. End result..the coroner just ruled probably
pneumoniayet, when I talked to her she did not have a cold, etc.

One other itemDanny Zacks - she had taken over 100 Hogarth prints -
original engravings to him. She had picked them up months before, and
he bought a placejust down the road from hershe knew of this family
as they owned Max and Irmas, R.G.Berry, etc., and presumed he was okay.
He is now in prision having stolen stuff in the south; he had a fence
operation, but his family was very wealth, and there was suit in court
about moneyanyway, he stole all those prints and got away with it.
My attorney headed up Detroit FBI office for 25 years, and whenever I
needed help he was always thereheis so old now and very ill..

I only know for sure that she acted strange at the dinner at the Kennedy
Center; that she was fine when she came to my house; tht we talkedin
the night she called 911 = maybe an hour after we talkedthey said
she had been dead 2 hours because her body was coldshe was taken in
as a JAne Doe and the coroner's office - well, they had at one time this
Doctor charged with murder of a black Doctor, along with another Doctor
who not charged but was therewith a Mafia "made" killer named
DeleoI was working on this stuff, and the one hd the nerve to come
to my office...won't go into thatbut just the thought of her being
taken to the county morgue, she lived a few blocks from me.taken in
like JaneDoe for autopsy, when they knew she was my sisterthere is a
lot of stuff that is not coincidence dealing iwth other people.

If the police had not lied, and the fire department had not lied, I
would have accepted the story. This 911 what horrified me was when I
called a voice said "Colleen, we are so sorry".911 is just another
police phone...I still had a few friends there, and the Mayor and Safety
Director got me what I needed.one policeman thought she died a
"natural"death.

It was then I wanted to find out who 911 wasthere is so much more to
this stuff, that I do not know for sure. I let the matter drop for one
reason - the fire deprtment was afraid I would sue or something or they
would not have lied; the police were afraid of something - probably me,
but I still had few friends there. They were scared. It would do not
good; she was already dead and she did not hve to die. They did
absolutely nothing to help her.but for some reason, thought she had
been murdered...only one officer from the report, thought she was not.

I do not know. I know April this month I was thinking of our law office
blowing up; and the litte tiny propane tank was not oursat the time
I was still working on some of this stuff and my boss said "My God, I am
beginning to believe all this stuff:, I cannot go further on this, or
will take your day.

At this time, had it not been for Jeanne Dixon being there, looking old
and frail as Kathy said = but it crosses my mind...Kathy was flying in
and out of Canada and other places, and visited the Soviety Embassy and

[CTRL] It's about children, not brownie points.

1999-04-26 Thread Tsadowq

 -Caveat Lector-

Previous thread: The FACTS are still the FACTS.

Fellow Lollards,

I have ignored the majority of Revcoal's previous blather,
but feel the need to address the her following questions
that bring unneeded doubt and spawn misinformation.

Towards the end of this post are additional FACTS that you
may not hear on the news outside of the state of Colorado.

In a message dated 99-04-26 07:48:43 EDT, revcoal says:
Again, it was the mainstream media on which I heard the 'partyline'
of 'only 2 suspects, who committed suicide' story, and not from the lips
of any official police spokesperson...*...Davis pointedly NEVER said
they had conclusively determined that there were only 2 suspects

Official or not, I have Davis on tape, at the first impromptu press
conference, stating that there are "NO further suspects, as BOTH
of the ONLY suspects are dead".

Actually, I also have Jim Parr (sp?) stating the same thing.

In a message dated 99-04-26 07:48:43 EDT, revcoal says:
And again, what makes you feel the cops HAVE to reveal
details of an ongoing investigation to you?

Having previously owned a small local paper, I still have my press
pass. Considering that I was PRESENT for the press conference
that you think you know so much about, maybe you ought to go
back to doing dishes and quit playing internet detective.

People, these press conferences were about covering up information,
and most everyone out there understands that this was the point of
my previous post to this group.

Those of you who have *carefully* read my contributions to this list,
might recognize the fact that several contentions that I have brought
up, are now surfacing in some of the media outlets. Simply decide
who is contributing valid information, and who is playing Ace Ventura.

I previously reported that the full-time security guard on campus was
in direct contact with police from the moment the shooting began.

Housewife June has asked if I can document my "claim", and
adds that: "[S]ecurity guards as a rule are worthless in defending
the public, rarely if ever receive any sort of professional training,
rarely if ever even get trained in first aid and CPR..."

Gee June, did you happen to know that the security guard
was an off-duty Jefferson County Officer who, by radio, WAS
in direct contact with the dispatch center?

Here in Colorado, where we are one officer at a time becoming
a police state, off-duty officers rotate in shifts, or work opposite
of their regular police shift, in schools; video rental stores; high
traffic entertainment centers; etc.

People like myself, are part of a movement which is pointing out
that these off-duty officers are using state vehicles, gas, etc.,
while making money at their part-time jobs. Either way, this
was a COP on duty as the High School's security guard.

This proves to be only ONE of Revcoal's ill-informed statements.

Revcoal's entire argument about "point to point" radio contact,
as well as your assumptions toward the inability of the "security
guard, are BOTH completely irrelevant in light of the fact that
this was an off-duty POLICE officer.

Revcoal truly does not know what she is talking about, and
she is [unfortunately] spreading disinformation through her
own lack of credible data.

In a message dated 99-04-26 07:48:43 EDT, revcoal says:
Remember, there are over 2000 students at this school...even if
only one percent of them tried to call on pay and cell phones, you're
talking approximately 20 calls coming in at once on a system that
probably only has about 20 lines operational...

You have a valid point!!!

Let's see, 20 incoming calls, 20 lines operational.

Is there supposed to be a problem here?

Before you open your piehole, make sure that you
are not falling into the trap that I am setting for you.

Do *YOU* know how many emergency calls were placed
between 11:00 a.m.and 11:30 a.m on Tuesday the 20th?

In a message dated 99-04-26 07:48:43 EDT, revcoal says:
The teacher was only one of DOZENS of
callers who were kept online...

This is irrelevant. The point of contention, was that this teacher
could not have been on hold, blocking her OWN call's inability to
get through to 911; which, Revcoal's own contradictive statements
foolishly concluded.

In a message dated 99-04-26 07:48:43 EDT, revcoal says:
The teacher was only one of DOZENS
of callers who were kept online...

Considering that we have not been able to confirm ANY calls
more than the couple that have been released via tape, I would
sure like to see this assumption of Revcoal's documented.

The readers on this list should note that the great majority
of my own statements do not begin with, "we can guess"
or "presumably", "probably", as Revcoal's are forced to.

In a message dated 99-04-26 07:48:43 EDT, revcoal says:
I can't see any fault with the 911 operators themselves.

Readers, this is just one of June's semantic arguments which
were never the point of discussion in the first place. The point
was that the 911

[CTRL] [12b] Crime, Big Business Watergate

1999-04-26 Thread Kris Millegan

 -Caveat Lector-

an excerpt from:
The Breaking of a President 1974 - The Nixon Connection
Marvin Miller, Compiler
Therapy Productions, Inc.©1975
LCCCN 7481547
--[12b]--

INTERNATIONAL INTELLIGENCE INC.

When Mary Carter Paint Company changed its name to Resorts International,
several attempts were made to give the impression that organized crime was
not involved in its gambling casinos despite all that had gone on. Some
well-known Lansky men were fired from the casinos, and Resorts International
put up $2 million to form International Intelligence Inc. (Intertel), an
agency which guaranteed to keep any legal gambling operation free from
or-ganized crime influence. Heading Intertel was the same Robert Peloquin who
as a Justice Department investigator had warned of the likelihood of a Lansky
skim at Resorts International's Paradise Island Casino. He resigned from the
Justice Department to become vice-president of Paradise Enterprises Ltd., the
corporation set up by Sands, Groves and Mary Carter Paint to organize
security at the new Nassau casinos. From Paradise Enterprises, Peloquin
shifted to Intertel, a 91 per cent - owned subsidiary of Resorts
International. It is believed that Howard Hughes owns the other 9 per cent.

Intertel describes itself as an organization devoted to "safeguarding
business from the hidden risks of vulnerability to organized crime, and
assisting states and cities in developing comprehensive crime control plans.
Intertel is a unique consulting organization created specifically to provide
businesses, industrial concerns and trade associations with expertly designed
management systems that would enable them to repel infiltration by organized
crime."

In a 1970 brochure which Intertel distributed to some interested
publications, the President's Commission on Law Enforcement and
Administration of Justice is approvingly quoted as saying in 1967: "There is
a disturbing lack of interest on the part of some legitimate business
concerns regarding the identity of the persons with whom they deal. This
lackadaisical attitude is conducive to the perpetration of frauds and the
infiltration and subversion of legitimate business by the organized criminal
elements."

The Intertel brochure, backed by the impressive experience Robert Peloquin
had acquired as one of the top governmental investigators of organized crime,
goes on to say what Intertel has to offer the legitimate businessman:

Wherever business succeeds, there is a threat of infiltration and subversion
by organized crime. The threat to corporate giants is gigantic. The effect on
smaller business is often devastating.

Organized crime's activity in the business community is more diverse than any
conglomerate's. Its members and associates are astute businessmen. They are
profit-oriented; they invest and manipulate billions of dollars in business.
Yet most businessmen know virtually nothing about the economic threat and
danger signals of organized crime.

Until now businessmen concerned about the problem have had no wholly suitable
place to turn for help. That is no longer true. A new company has been formed
to give that help: International Intelligence Inc. —INTERTEL.

Organized criminals who injure business today do not look like stereotyped
criminals. They are executives and technicians. Their forte is manipulation
of computer information, tampering with accounting procedures, theft of trade
secrets and invasion of confidential company files. They thrive on exercising
dangerous influence over key employees and executives in parent or subsidiary
companies, and the corruption of associates, suppliers, distributors,

Those are vulnerable areas through which organized crime can penetrate and
ultimately control a business or an industry. Those are the areas largely
overlooked by management in many businesses.

Organized crime can not be disregarded. Its influence will not disintegrate
on its own. Affirmative action must be taken by the business community.

Consideration must be given to the integrity of management and key officials
in companies with whom any business relationship is contemplated. Are their
money sources legitimate, or do they represent part of the $7 to $10 billion
profit organized crime nets every year from illegal operations and wants to
invest in legitimate business?

Intertel has the unique capability of studying your company, analyzing the
potential for such losses in its various divisions or subsidiaries, and
identifying the areas of vulnerability. We can recommend new management
systems, or improvement of existing ones. We can provide the necessary
intelligence about businesses and management with whom you are considering a

avoid loss of profits, dissipation of assets, and ruin of business reputation.

 STRANGE SYMBOLISM AT NATO SUMMIT

(CNNS, 04/25/99) -- A broadcast by local independent radio
(WEFT-FM) news outlet, "News From Neptune" (4/24/99), pointed out
some strange symbolism at the NATO summit held these past few
 days in Washington, DC.

According to the broadcast, the main conference layout involved
the NATO "logo," a cross eerily reminiscent of the Nazi swastika,
surrounded by tables arranged in the form of a pentagon.
 ("Pentagon," as in *the* Pentagon.)

This news service has been imperfectly able to corroborate the
existence of a weird symbolic layout arranged for the NATO summit
main conference. From news video of the NATO summit, it indeed
appears that the conference tables were arranged in the form of a
pentagon, and surrounded the NATO "iron cross" logo.

snip
IIRC, the NATO logo is a stylized compass, not a "cross"...certainly *not* an
"Iron Cross"! BUT the pentagonal table layout was decidedly weird...it sent
chills up my spine when I saw it. Sure, it might have had to do with space
limitations...but surely a circle would have done the job as well as a
pentagon?? (Or is that a...pentagram? Nah...)

[CTRL] Ted Bundy

1999-04-26 Thread Robert Tatman

 -Caveat Lector-

http://www.crimelibrary.com/bundy/attack.htm

Theodore Robert Bundy
by Rachael Bell

ATTACK!

She was not asleep, as her roommates had thought when they approached the bed
of Joni Lenz on the afternoon of January 4, 1974. They found her lying in a
pool of blood that was seeping from her head and face. Terrified, her
roommates removed the covers from Joni Lenz's body only to find an even more
horrible sight. A bed rod had been torn away from the bed and savagely rammed
into her vagina. Shortly after her discovery, Joni was transported to the
hospital as she lay in a coma, suffering from brain damage that would affect
her for the rest of her life. However, she was lucky to be alive. Joni was one
of the few victims to survive an attack by Ted Bundy who reigned terror across
the United States during the 1970's. There were countless more victims before
and after Joni who were not so fortunate to have lived. Some thirty-six women
may have fallen prey to Bundy, but only he knew for sure. It is a number that
Bundy has carried with him to his grave.

The Trials

Theodore Robert Bundy faced three trials, all spaced within three years. His
first trial date for the Chi Omega murders was set for February 22, 1978, in
Miami, Florida. Three months later, he would go on trial for the attacks on
the Chi Omega sorority sisters. It would be more than a year later on January
7, 1980, that Bundy would face his final trial for the murder of Kimberly
Leach. However, it would be the trial for the Chi Omega murders that would
seal his fate forever.

During the Chi Omega murder trial, Ted acted as his own defense attorney. He
was confident in his abilities and believed he would be given a fair trial.
Twelve jurors, mostly African-American, looked on as he defended himself
against the murder charges. Bundy was fighting a losing battle. There were two
events in the trial that would sway the jury against Bundy. The first was Nita
Neary's testimony of what she had seen the night of the murders. While on the
stand, she pointed to Bundy as the man she had seen fleeing down the stairs
and out the door of the Chi Omega House. The second event that swayed the jury
during the trial was the testimony of odontologist, Dr. Richard Souviron.

While on the stand, Dr. Souviron described the bite mark injuries found on
Lisa Levy's body. As he spoke, the jury was shown full-scale photographs of
the bite marks that had been taken the night of the murder. The doctor pointed
out the uniqueness of the indentations left behind on the victim and compared
them with full-scale pictures of Bundy's teeth. They matched perfectly. There
was no question that Bundy had made the bite marks on Lisa Levy's body. The
photos would be the biggest piece of evidence the prosecution had linking
Bundy to the crime.

On July 23rd, Bundy waited in his cell as the jurors deliberated over his
guilt or innocence. After almost seven hours, they returned to the courtroom
with a verdict. Showing no emotion, Bundy listened as one of the jurors read
out GUILTY." On all counts of murder, Ted was found guilty beyond a reasonable
doubt. Later, Ted would also be found guilty at his second trial for the
attacks against Kathy Kleiner and Karen Chandler. On July 31st, Ted Bundy
would be sentenced to die in the electric chair.

On January 7, 1980, Ted would go to trial for his last time for the murder of
Kimberly Leach. With evidence stacked against him, he would once again be
found guilty. It would be a month later, when Bundy would again be sentenced
to death for the third time. He would eventually confess to the murders of 28
women. However, many believe the number of deaths to be much higher. No one
will ever really know how many women fell victim to Ted Bundy; it would be a
number he would take to his grave. After countless appeals, Ted was finally
executed on January 24, 1989.

[CTRL] Flawed Heroes?

1999-04-26 Thread Robert Tatman

 -Caveat Lector-

I ran across this passage in Jaan Puhvel, *Comparative Mythology*, Baltimore:
The Johns Hopkins University Press, 1987, p. 243, referring to "...the warrior
who was not divine but a saga hero manipulated by deity, not a king but merely
in the royal service." References to "function" are to the three "functions"
or "estates" of traditional Indo-European society, namely priest, warrior, and
peasant or merchant.

"This is the kind most marked by a tense relationship to the environment where
he operated, to his divine and human patrons and his social constituency at
large. He had no agglomeration of transfunctional attributes to lose, but he
nevertheless managed to offend (or was perceived as offending) all segments of
the social order by a structured set of misdeeds. With his flawed willfulness
(or perhaps rather his 'programmed,' predestined, predictable nature) he
compromised his career by nadir episodes that involved
impious/unjust/sacrilegious, cowardly/underhanded/unwarriorlike, and
covetous/venal/adulterous acts respectively. ... The varieties described are
found in epic, saga, and folklore, from the fells of Scandinavia to the
jungles of India, from the Bay of Bengal via the Gulf of Argos and the Tiber
to Galway Bay. They kinds are not extinct--they were spotted no long ago on
both the Mekong and the Potomac."

The reason the myths and legends of our Indo-European heritage (and please
remember that this is a *linguistic* heritage, not racial) resonate with us
even today is that they embody spiritual and psychological truths about human
behavior and our relationship with our gods. We are not so far removed from
our ancestors that we can afford to forget that essential fact. If we have
advanced at all, we have advanced materially; our weapons are deadlier, our
"horses" faster than those of our forebears...but *we* have not changed in
essence. We still act out those same ancient stories, time after time after
time. It is only because we have largely forgotten the myths, or relegated
them to a dusty bookshelf, that anything we do to each other seems "new."

I started out to compare Bill Clinton to the "flawed heroes" Puhvel writes
about, but realized as I wrote that if these stereotypes and archetypes apply
to anyone, they must apply to *all* of us equally. We are *all* flawed heroes,
again and again violating the basic code of conduct set forth for us by
society. It *is* possible to overcome that interior programming which compels
us to misbehave, but it means that we have to, first, trust our selves, and,
second, trust each other. If we are not willing to do those two things, we
will just keep repeating the same mistakes over and over and over again. And
before we rush to blame Bill Clinton, or Slobodan Milosevic, or Li Peng, or
Boris Yeltsin, look inside our own selves and decide whether perhaps we don't
need some changes *there*, before demanding that the rulers of the world live
up a standard which we do not observe in our own lives.

I know that's kind of preachy...but I do think it's valid. As the Quaker Elias
Hicks wrote two hundred years ago, "We are never tempted by the devil without,
but by the devil within."

The End of the Line

Insect Transmission of HIV
  [Image]

Anyone who tells you categorically that AIDS is not contracted by
saliva is not telling you the truth. AIDS may, in fact, be
transmissible by saliva, tears, bodily fluids, and mosquito
 bites.

[Image] --Dr. William Haseltine, Chief of the Division of
Retrovirology, Harvard University

Question: Reports indicate that as many as 40% of the AIDS-infected
children in parts of Africa have AIDS-free mothers; how did they become
infected?

Answer: Many of them became infected by insect bite.

Every major plague in history has been tied to some type of environmental
factor. Cholera and typhoid are spread through contaminated water.
Tuberculosis is commonly spread through fomites (towels, dishes, etc.) and
aerosol water droplets spewed into the air through coughing and sneezing.
One sneeze, for example, can expel 50,000 micro-droplets of water at up to
'00 miles per hour traveling many feet away from the person who sneezes.
Each one of these droplets is capable of carrying the disease. Smallpox was
transmitted by fomites and food. With every other epidemic in history --
plague, yellow fever, typhus, malaria, denge fever, etc. -- insects were
the vector of transmission.

A study in Zaire determined that children with malaria were several times
more likely to test positive for AIDS. The only way to get malaria is
through mosquito bites. The Pasteur Institute performed a study in '989
which showed that 30% of the mosquitoes in tested in Africa were infected
with HIV. Lab studies in the U.S. have shown that mosquitoes which are
allowed to feed on HIV-infected blood still retain active viruses in the
blood cells they have consumed for up to 8 days. Many types of mosquitoes
have a flying range of about 40 miles.

There are two main methods that the virus can be transmitted by insect
bite: mechanical and biological. Blood products that remain on the biting
mouth parts of the insect can be introduced into a new host simply through
the mechanical act of biting through the victim¹s skin. The virus can also
reside comfortably in the saliva and digestive fluid of the insect and can
be infused into subsequent victims through the mouth/feeding tube during
the biting/feeding process at any time.

At this point in time, over 80 different species of virus are known to be
transmitted to humans by mosquitoes and other blood-sucking insects such as
fleas, ticks, head lice, biting flies, etc.

Dr. Jean Claude Chermann of the Pasteur Institute, in Paris, reported he
has located the DNA of the AIDS virus in field specimens of virtually every
African insect species that bites humans. He further determined that 30% of
the insects tested contained the AIDS virus itself. This is particularly
significant because in most insect-borne diseases only 3% of the insects
are routinely found to be infected. This means that the AIDS virus is ten
times more concentrated in these insects than usually considered necessary
for insect transmission of a disease.

AIDS infectivity research pioneer Dr. William T. O'Connor (Chapter 7, AIDS
Exposed ) made the following statement on insect transmission of HIV among
humans:

If 'they' knew that insects could spread HIV, 'they' would
certainly protect themselves, too, wouldnt 'they'? And 'they
wouldn't hide that information, would 'they'!? Well, here's the
'they:' You mentioned the Pasteur Institute, it wasn't so much
the Pasteur Institute, it was Dr. Jean-Claude Chermann who went
to Africa and did the studies and found that HIV was in every
insect that had contact with human blood. The...question is: can
that (HIV) come out of their genome? Is it first spread through
to the male line and is it found in the non-bloodsucking
mosquitoes...the male mosquitoes? Guess what? It was in the male
 population of mosquitoes.

The big question is, can active, infective viral particles get
out of that (male) mosquito? When Jean-Claude Chermann was asked
by me, in person, when I met him in Marseilles and toured his
facility, he said he had received death threats. And he elected
 to stop studying it.

The scientific question as to whether insects can carry HIV is
(officially) unanswered. And it is unanswered because the leading
virologist in the world (on the subject) cared more about his
family and himself. I don't blame him! If somebody told me, 'You
keep up that line of research and we will kill you,' I'd stop,
 too.

In Africa, in '88, no one was infected, not even the prostitutes.
Now, in Central Africa, you can see up to 60% of given
populations infected. I'm saying that in a decade, you can't rely
on just sex (transmission) to do that. And it isn't hard to
 catch! That is

[CTRL] World War Three Set To Start In July - Nostradamus

mus.html

World War Three Set To Start In July - Nostradamus

CAPE TOWN (Reuters) - World War Three will start in July in the
Balkans, last seven months and end in victory for the U.S.-led North
Atlantic Treaty Organization, according to a new analysis of 16th
century French seer Nostradamus.

"He is clear it will start before the end of the century during the
period of Cancer which is between June 22 and July 23, and in a
triangle bordered by Greece, Italy and Turkey, which is the
Balkans," University of Stellenbosch Professor of Political Science
Willie Breytenbach told Reuters Monday.

"I have to emphasize I am a skeptic. I am an academic who was bored
on a Sunday. But what I found was so chilling that I put pen to
paper," he added.

NATO allies have been bombing targets in Serbia for more than a
month in a so-far abortive effort to force Serbian President
Slobodan Milosevic to stop expelling the ethnic Albanian majority in
the Serbian province of Kosovo.

The air campaign has triggered angry responses from Russia, caused a
biblical exodus of refugees from Kosovo and forced the allies to
contemplate sending in ground forces.

Breytenbach said he found references to the conflict in 18 of the
950 quatrains written by Michel de Notre Dame in 1555 which have
been found to refer to the fire of London, Louis Pasteur and Adolf
Hitler among others.

"In one quatrain he mentions the Slav people. He also mentions war
in the mountains which, taken with what we know and the talk of land
forces, all gelled," he added.

One of the quatrains also mentions a "tyrant" whose name begins
with "M," which could refer to Milosevic.

Another notes that the Serbs will "change their prince," which
Breytenbach took to be a reference to the possible overthrow of the
Serb leader.

In another verse there is a reference to three years and seven
months of peace before the war.

"I suddenly noticed that the Dayton peace accord was signed on
November 21, 1995. Adding three years and seven months to that
brings us to the end of June 1999," Breytenbach said.

The Dayton peace accord, to which Milosevic was a signatory, finally
ended the conflict in Bosnia.

Breytenbach said Nostradamus made several references to the fact
that Greece would be involved in the conflict and that there would
be bloodshed in Turkey. There is also mention of the involvement of
Italy.

There are references to the Alus, which Breytenbach took to refer to
the NATO allies in which the United States is the dominant force,
and the Mabus which he said could refer to Macedonia, Montenegro,
Albania, Bosnia and Serbia.

"He, Nostradamus, is quite clear the war will last seven months and
the ultimate victor will have been born on American soil,"
Breytenbach said.

1999-04-26 Thread Kenn Thomas

 -Caveat Lector-

To the person who wanted to curtail the number of individual posts: I don't see the
difference in having more posts than you can read and not having them in the first
place. At least in the first case, you have the potential of reading them sometime.
Also, it helps people who are trying to collect data on a specific topic for a larger
research project. CTRL serves that function in addition to being one of the best
places to conspiracy net chat.

I'm in LA next week for the BookExpo and a lecture at the Midnight Special book store
(see http://www.umsl.edu/~skthoma for details). I hope some CTRL readers come by to
press flesh. I'll need to power down from here for the time, though, so as not to
crash my e-mail reader. I know I lurk more than post, but in case anyone notices my
absence, there's the reason.

Before I go, though, I want to point out this new book from the University of
Minnesota Press, Conspiracy Theories, Secrecy and Power in American Culture by Mark
Fenster. It's not a total diss as one might expect from the academy, although the
utterly discredited Gerald Posner is quoted on the back cover. You can get the flavor
from this quote: "Steamshovel Press editor/publisher Kenn Thomas has written several
articles and a book that make bold and fanciful connections beyond the already
extraoridinary ones covered in the more mainstream press."

Fenster concludes that "conspiracy theory ultimately fails as a political and cultural
practice. It...fails to inform us how to move from the end of an uncovered plot to the
beginning of a political movement," as if that is truly what he or the other armchair
academics want. (Gerald Posner, revolutionary. Yeah, right.)

I hope that whatever career path Mr. Fenster has followed, teaching or law (Ph.D. from
U. of Illinois and Yale law degree), that on some he level he really picked up more
from his encounter with the conspiracy research community. CTRLers are a bottomless
fount of information and revelations per minute, a vital group of performing
philosophers who advance human understanding far better than the tired rhetoric of
phony idealism. It would be helpful to Fenster to see it that way, whether he's
tackling conspiratorial machinations in some university department's tenure track or
prosecuting/defending conspiracy in the court.

Best to all. I'll log back on next week.

 Started another imbroglio
In a little region called Kosovo
So sell your mutual fund and pick up a gun,
You're gonna have a whole lot of fun

And it's 1, 2, 3, what are we fightin' for?
Don't ask me; I don't really know, my next stop is Kosovo!

[CTRL] Speaking Up for Guns, Lots of Them, for Nearly Anyone

1999-04-26 Thread Mike Moxley

 -Caveat Lector-

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people
always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use
them."
- Richard Henry Lee; Founding Father

'Speaking Up for Guns, Lots of Them, for Nearly Anyone'
New York Times April 26, 1999 Frank Bruni

SPRINGFIELD, Va. -- Larry Pratt said that his first thoughts after hearing
about the bloodshed in a Colorado school were, "This is bad, and there's
going to be a feeding frenzy on the gun issue, and I'll probably have to
wear a coat and tie to work for the next few days." The television cameras
would surely be coming. He should look nice.

Pratt, the executive director of the Gun Owners of America, an advocacy
group situated in this suburb of Washington, stands tall even when some
officials with the National Rifle Association are lying low. He expects as
much from NRA officials; they are, he believes, sometimes faint of heart
and impure of ideology. Pratt is not.

He believes there should be absolutely no regulations governing the sale or
purchase of handguns -- no waiting period, no background checks, no trigger
locks. Automatic weapons should be as available as hunting rifles. People
should be permitted to buy them in abundance.

In this more perfect world, Pratt said, many of the deaths in Colorado
might have been prevented.

"We're saddened that there were not teachers and principals who had access
to a gun, who might have been able to stop the mayhem," Pratt said late
last week in his office, from which he directs the lobbying and other
activities of an organization that he said has about 150,000 members.

Pratt's group is a mere shadow of the NRA, and it holds sway over only a
small number of extremely conservative lawmakers.

But if you are looking for the most unyielding proponents of the right to
bear arms, the kind whose ardor and outspokenness are undimmed even by the
deaths of 14 teen-agers and a teacher in one ghastly spree, this is where
you will find them, along with Pratt, a 56-year-old with a sallow
complexion, gray-fringed hair and a gentle voice. He is the kind of man you
would ask to watch your luggage while you dashed to the rest room.

As Bob Walker, president of Handgun Control, an advocacy group on the other
side, said: "His personality is disarming. But his views are not."

For Pratt, it is really quite simple: When the founding fathers fashioned
the Second Amendment, they rightly saw an armed citizenry as a final
safeguard against any possibility of tyranny. And because tyranny does not
augur or announce its arrival, it is best to be ready, just in case.

"One is advised to buy fire insurance when one's house is not burning down,
and you hope it never does burn down, but you're certainly not going to be
able to buy it during or after the fire," Pratt said.

"And it's the same thing with firearms," he continued, "whether it's a
government that goes bad like Milosevic against the Croats and his own
people as well as the Kosovars, or Hitler, or Stalin, or whatever, or just
the criminal element."

Pratt was not always so wary. He described his childhood outside of Camden,
N.J., as uneventful. His father, an electrical engineer, worked in
television sales for an electronics company. His mother stayed home to rear
him and one sister.

He first touched a gun as a teen-ager, on a duck-hunting trip with a
friend, and then not again until 1968, when he felt compelled to buy one.
He was then living just outside Washington, and there were riots under way,
and he suddenly felt a sense of helplessness in the chaos. He had a wife
and the first of what would be four children. He wanted to know that he
could protect them.

A graduate of American University with a degree in political science, he
worked in the late 1960s and early 1970s for various conservative policy
groups before taking the helm of Gun Owners in 1976, one year after its
inception. Initially a job, it turned into a crusade as he witnessed a
growing number of restrictions over guns.

He also came to associate with extremists in the militia movement, white
supremacy groups and the violent fringes of anti-abortion militancy. When
these ties were revealed in 1996, he was forced to step aside temporarily
from his role as co-chairman of Pat Buchanan's campaign for the Republican
presidential nomination.

Pratt said he had merely given speeches to -- or appeared at events of --
the organizations in question and did not share their racist or
anti-Semitic views. He simply wanted to talk to them about guns, he said.

He said he has never been the victim of a violent crime, nor has any member
of his family, though one of his daughters, then a teen-ager, was home
alone at the family's house in Springfield about eight years ago when she
saw a man who seemed to be casing the house.

Pratt was out of town, but she called him to ask where the gun was. As he
told her he felt relief. He said she did not have to use the

[CTRL] Movies, and Money?

1999-04-26 Thread David Gould

 -Caveat Lector-

Post Number 80: Movies and Money; for profit, or not?

I have been delaying this Post, but in view of Colorado, perhaps it
is time. I have little to add to the information... except a short
story:

Several years ago, I met a man and his associates who were interested
in setting up a separate and new movie production company specifically
for G rated movies. To do this, they needed some advice on economics,
so we sat down and discussed a number of issues. What the bottom line
came down to was, they understood Hollywood and how it worked,
and they wanted to use the same methods to finance their production
company as is used on Hollywood.

This is where my education started. Most of the movies made in
Hollywood show no profit for the makers, so they use phony finance
programs designed by dishonest men (for reference, see definition of
bankers in Part VI of my series) to finance virtually all of the
production
of movies (and television) in Hollywood. These phony programs are
based on worthless paper which banks turn into derivatives and float into
the loan programs of overextended banks for very high returns.

Once I understood what they wanted to do, I knew there was no way that
they would get the financing in place for their proposed company, and,
of course, they have not. Not surprising.

One more point before we continue: Hollywood. Where did it get it’s
name?

Well, the Holly is a tree, and throughout the his-story of the earth,
witches
have used the wood of the Holly tree as their wands for the purposes of
transformations. Thus, Holly - wood; to transform

Ever wonder why they call it “TV programming?” Ever wonder who is
being programmed? I still find it amazing the numbers of people who
insist
on watching the news on TV! It is called “TELEVISION NEWS
PROGRAMMING!! Of you!

MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO
After a movie about a prison escape with a helicopter was shown,
an actual event happened.

After a movie about a greyhound bus being high jacked was shown,
an actual event followed.

After the first guy high hacked a plane and the media gave it endless
coverage, dozens of actual events followed.

After the media kept showing endless footage of school shootings
to boost their ratings, dozens of actual events followed.

Yes, Mr. truth, right and justice for all media man ... in exchange for
ratings and money, you will continue to insight and teach millions of
kids how to do the same thing.

Dear Friends
I found something interesting in the Sunday Visitor (a Catholic
newspaper) I'm typing it in so you all can read it if you haven't
already .

HOW TO MAKE MONEY IN THE MOVIES
Everybody knows the folks in Hollywood are just in it for the money, and
they only deliver the movies that people want to pay to see. Right?
If a certain type of movie didn't make money, studio executives would
stop making that kind of movie and produce the kind that do make them
money, wouldn't they?
Those are the questions raised by a major new study by The Dove
Foundation, a nonprofit media watchdog group.
Tracking the profitability of 2,380 widely released films between the
years 1988-97, the organization found that the overwhelming majority of
the movies produced are R-rated, even though the least-produced movies,
those rated G, were by far the most profitable.
During the 10 year period of the study, 55 percent of the movies
released were R-rated, while only 3 percent were rated G. But G-rated
films produced eight times more gross profit and yielded on average
nearly 80 percent greater return on investment than the average R-rated
film.
The bottom line was clear to Dove head, Dick Rolfe: "If corporate
Hollywood's objective is to make money for its stockholders, it should
have no problem convincing its creative partners to redirect their
efforts form R to G and PG films, and give the public more of what it
wants --for profits' sake."
Dove is not calling for Hollywood to turn to all kid oriented fare,
Rolfe insisted, saying that great dramas, comedies and mysteries can be
produced without "naked bodies, exploding heads and filthy language."
The study has been delivered by Dove to every major studio executive in
Hollywood. Others can read it on Dove's web site: www.dove.org.

This sounds reasonable to me, do any of you think things will change? I
wish they would, the problem is Hollywood DOES have an agenda.

When Nelson Rockefeller was being questioned under oath by Congress prior

“How much money did you make last year?”
Rockefeller answered, “650 million.”
“And how much Income Tax did you pay on that?” they asked.
“Nothing” was the reply.

TALKING HEADS TARGET SEPARATION, CIVIL LIBERTIES
Threats Of "Shame," Product Liabilities And Government Bullying
Characterize The Sunday Morning Discourse Over The Littleton, Colo.
Tragedy

Pat Buchanan, Bill Bennett and the rest of the Sunday morning crew on
the NBC program "Meet The Press" don't have much use for the
Constitution in the aftermath of last week's tragic shootings at a
Littleton, Colorado high school. The two field commanders in the
religious right's "culture wars" were joined by Sen. Joseph Lieberman
(D-Conn.), Tipper Gore, Attorney General Janet Reno, British Prime
Minister Tony Blair, and child psychologist James Garbarino, author of
the book "Lost Boys" and a fast-rising star on network programs
articulating the supposed causes of senseless violence.

Of particular note was the hostility which Buchanan, Lieberman and
especially Garbarino displayed toward contemporary American society,
which all three men portrayed as the equivalent of a nation in moral
crisis. Participants gave their opinions on the Kosovo crisis, a
topic which provided a weird synchronicity for the next topic of
discussion -- the violence in Colorado. Buchanan and Lieberman
exchanged barbs over the question of armed intervention, but when the
subject shifted from foreign to domestic policy -- "kids killing kids"
-- there was a sudden convergence of opinion. Analyses and proposed
solutions were chilling in the extreme.

Tipper Gore, wife of Vice President Al Gore, was one of the first
culture mavens to sound the alarm over the content of musical lyrics
when she helped to form the Parents' Resource Music Center, and wrote
the book "Raising PG Kids In An X-Rated Society." Her thoughts on the
Littleton incident consisted primarily of sweeping generalizations
concerning the alleged causal links between "violent entertainment"
and actual incidents of violence, and cliches such as "We got to step
up to the plate here. This is a wake up call..." Gore stopped short
of calling for censorship and government intervention concerning
"violent" of offensive books, cassettes, videos, lyrics and other
cultural materials, though, suggesting that communities "organize
themselves" to ask youngsters questions. Gore also adroitly
sidestepped direct questions about companies such as Viacom, the
entertainment conglomerate which owns MTV and Warner Brothers, and
which distributed the film "Natural Born Killers" -- one of several
movies now under attack by media commentators and professional
"experts" as a possible causative factor in youth violence. Gore
again echoed her refrain that all of this was a "wake up call from our
kids..."

Sen. Joseph Lieberman, a cofounder with Bill Bennett of the Empower
America group, was more direct in demanding that government enter the
culture fray. When asked by host Tim Russert if he supported a White
House summit of entertainment industry CEO's on the question of media
violence, he termed the suggestion "a very constructive and important
step for the president, the vice president, indeed for the bipartisan
leadership in Congress..." There was no discussion, though, of
companies -- including small producers -- who might refuse such a
summit "invitation," or break ranks with government "guidelines"
regarding the content of films, lyrics or other forms of
communication. Next, Russert asked Bill Bennett, former Secretary of
Education and now one of the foremost religious conservative culture
gurus, about gun control, and the possibility of "control on the
internet," or putting an end to the sale of video games and music
videos to kids. Oddly, Bennett said that he had "no objection to
looking at all those fronts."

Bennett was first to employ metaphors comparing violent movies to
tobacco. He proposed that entertainment companies be grilled with
"very hard questions" and singled out "you know, the Levines, the
Bronfmans, the people who run Viacom." He then leaped into the
religious agenda, discussing the alleged "Trench Coat Mafia," the
affinity group of students from Columbine High School linked to the
shooting.

"If these kids were walking around that school in black trench coats,
saying 'Heil Hitler,' why didn't somebody pay attention? I guarantee
you if little Cassie Burnow, the little girl who was asked, 'Do you

Dear Skywatch,

I noticed the contrails about 3 years ago in May while camping on
Vancouver Island. It got me angry as what started out to be a beautiful
sunny day (we cherish those around here) was changed by these jets flying
crisscross over and over all afternoon. These contrails got wider and
eventually took over the sky with a haze.

Last night I noticed the contrails are back. Perhaps coincidentally its
that time of year. After dark they could still be seen from my location.
They appeared to extend north as far as I could see toward Canada and to
the end of the Olympic Peninsula. I was a bit alarmed as a front moved in
last night producing rain and I awoke wondering if whatever was in the
contrails became a part of the front.

For those of you who might remember, we had a case in May of 1995 of
"blobs" falling with the rain over the Grey's Harbor area of Washington
state. One person became ill and had to be taken to the hospital. Toxic
analysis at the state facilities (Olympia) showed it was pure bacteria.
FAA would not comment at that time. The Seattle Times had an article that
claimed the logical answer would have been that the navy in their bombing
runs over our islands off the coast, hit a school of jellyfish that got
pulvarized and got into the atmosphere thru rain condensation.

Sometimes I might not feel like the brightest person on this planet but I
think that story makes me feel like sort of an Einstein in comparison.
Many of you might have heard this story. Tomorrow I am calling the FAA to
see if I can find some answers to who or what is in that air corridor
from northern Wasington state up to the end of Vancouver Island and the
Vancouver area.

Re: [CTRL] Clinton Plans New Gun-Control Bill (already)

1999-04-26 Thread Colleen Jones

 -Caveat Lector-

The one thing I detest about the show MSBC puts on regarding the
children and like incidents - they have their funeral music already to
go; like the Dead Pool these kids have on the net, MSNBC has a Dead Pool
prepared as do other news agencies, waiting for people to die. Nothing
is spontaneousthey buried Franco and Frank Sinatra a thousand times
before they actually died.

I would like to now what is behind all this stuff; including, mind
control from Billy Milligan (the five point personality kid) to Bundy
murdering the kids, to now kids murdering kids).

The psychologists are being brought out in droves - repeating cite after
cite written by someone else in other books - but the book has not been
written yet as to why some of these kids have "dead eyes" when they
commit these crimes.I believe these dead eyes are some typeof
hypnotic statethey have closed out reality entering into another
world - a world of TV and Show time violence.

I find revolting the individuals who go on television smiling through
the entire ordeal when all the time, they re reading from the same song
book

The reason the psychologists do not have an aswer is simply this - the
book has not been written yet which can explain what happened. Perhaps
a book written by Robert Blair Kaiser...RFK MUST Die best describes what
happened at Columbine.these were programmed killers set to go
off...they say no drugs, I disagree...there are drugs that wash away.
Robert Blair Kaiser and F. Lee Baily know about mind control,
programing, and have the answers to Sirhan Sirhan as well as Pattie
Hearst...both of whom I might add, are or were directly or indirectly
acquainted with Rosicrucianism.the group that Hitler thought during
WWII were SS British Agents.

Wish I knew more about this stuff; but I can better see what is going
on, than do anything about itwe leave that to the TV psychologists
still singing out of the same songbooks, quote by quote.
