Neighbors Complain of Cheney Home Blasts

Mon Dec 9, 9:54 AM ET

By JIM ABRAMS, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Neighbors of Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites)
are being shaken and rattled at least once a day by mysterious blasts at the
U.S. Naval Observatory where Cheney lives.

The Navy says the explosions are part of a construction project that has been
going on for several months now, but won't say more because the project is
classified.

Navy spokeswoman Cate Mueller described the work as an infrastructure
improvement, a utility upgrade.

She said they have tried to reassure the neighborhood, which includes the
Washington residence of former President Bill and Sen. Hillary Clinton (news -
web sites), that the blasts will not damage their homes. She said most
understand that, because of national security concerns, they can't reveal
details or confine the construction to a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule.

Joseph Rieser, who lives a half-block off Observatory Circle, said each blast
was almost like thunder because it rolls and it lasts a noticeable period,
probably several seconds. It said the explosions rattle windows that aren't
shut tight.

He said his concern was that neighbors received no forewarning of the
project. If this were a normal construction contract I would expect that
they would have told the neighbors.

Mueller acknowledged that they were not as aggressive up front in warning
neighbors about the project.

She said the construction is expected to last another eight months, and for
the time being there will be one or two blasts a day, each lasting about
three to five seconds.

The blasts were being carefully monitored to assure they were well under
acceptable vibration standards so there would be no damage to either nearby
residences or to facilities at the observatory, she said.

The Naval Observatory moved to its present location on Massachusetts Ave. in
Northwest Washington in 1893. The vice president took up residence on the
site in 1974. It houses the master clock of the United States and telescopes
dating back to a time when it was one of the premier astronomical
observatories in the world.

The Washington Post, which reported the issue Sunday, said David Gillard, the
observatory's superintendent, had sent the local neighborhood commission a
letter noting that due to its sensitive nature in support of national
security and homeland defense, project specific information is classified and
cannot be released.

Jennifer Millerwise, a spokeswoman for the vice president, referred questions
about the project to the Navy.

Snow Jobs
CSX's Snow Tapped for Treasury Secretary. We have mixed feelings about
the recent Treasury Department shakeup. The resignation of the
former Treasury Secretary, long associated with ALCOA (Thomas Mellon
and Sons Bank, founded in 1869, helped finance an aluminum reduction
company owned by Alfred Hunt and Charles Hall, which became known as
Alcoa.)

and his replacement with
a new Treasury Secretary is interesting. The new Treasury Secretary
is said to be a deficit hawk. That is a good omen if he is allowed
to be a deficit hawk in his new post as Treasury Secretary. Dubya's
Double-Barreled Depression

August 31, 2001
Dubya's Double-Barreled Depression
To understand Dubya's Double-Barreled
Depression we must realize that
it is a one-two punch.
The first punch came in March of 2000.
That's when Dubya knocked
McCain out of the running for the
Republican Presidential nomination in
the South Carolina Republican
Presidential Primary.
Stock market investors follow an old
maxim: Buy Low-Sell High. On
January 20th, 1981 the Federal Budget
Deficit was ONE TRILLION
DOLLARS. Twelve years later after 8
years of Reagan-Bush and
4 years of Bush-Quayle the Federal
Budget Deficit was FIVE TRILLION
DOLLARS. With Bush the sure Republican nominee as of March 2000
investors realized that a Bush win would mean DejaVu all over again.
More budget deficits would loom. Bush lost the election but stole the
White House. The worried investors who started selling in March of
2000, when Bush locked up the Republican nomination are still selling
and there is NO BOTTOM TO THE STOCK MARKET! Since the peak in the
Wilshire 5000 Index in the spring of 2000, stocks have lost $4.4
trillion in value. (As of August 31, 2001- THE LOSSES HAVE
CONTINUED TO SKY-ROCKET SINCE THEN!!!)
http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0108/30/mlld.00.html
That's quite a number ! The reason for this is simple. When
government cuts taxes and increases spending, or proposes to increase
it, for things like Star Wars, which is an open-ended expense, (you
could spend all of the money that exists on earth and still not have a
reliable Star Wars missile defense system!) government ends up living
on the equivalent of a credit card. Government starts to borrow money.
If government competes with private borrowers for a limited supply of
money the price of money goes up. That means that even though the
Federal Reserve has cut interest rates this year it will have to raise
them, dramatically, as Government goes into deficit spending! When
that happens your c.d. rates will far exceed your rate of return on
stocks. Anticipating this scenario investors started selling in March
of 2000 the minute Bush knocked McCain out of the running for the
Republican Presidential nomination in the South Carolina primary. They
have not stopped selling since.
Only a deficit hawk can
return investor confidence to America. The CBO forecasts that the
government will tap $9
billion in Social Security reserves this year (2001) because Bush's
tax cut
and the general economic slowdown have shrunk the surplus in general
revenues. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20010829/pl/bush_73.html
When that happens, Baby Boomers, who are the biggest potential
spenders, or savers, in the economy get Worried. Worried Baby Boomers
Don't Buy Anything ! Drive down any American road and you will See
Baby Boomers behind the wheels of Big SUVs! They buy those things
because they are security conscious. Raiding Social Security Worries
Baby Boomers! This is the 2nd barrel of Dubya's Double-Barreled
Depression! Worrying the Baby Boomers into buying nothing and
delivering the coup de grace to the economy. If Social Security won't
be there because Dubya is raiding it right now, Baby Boomers reason,
it is time to stop buying everything! Baby Boomers are approaching
retirement soon. So all purchases by Baby Boomers are Out!

French right reorganises in new party

By Francis Dubois
11 December 2002

Back to screen version| Send this link by email | Email the author

On November 17 at a congress in Le Bourget near Paris, the traditional parties of the
French bourgeoisie agreed to unite in a new organisation—the Union for a Popular
Movement (Union pour un Mouvement Populaire [UMP]).

Taking part in the fusion were the Gaullist Rassemblement pour la République (RPR), the
real backbone of the new movement, and the liberal parties Démocratie Libérale (DL) and
the Union Démocratie Française (UDF). The presidency of the new party went to Alain
Juppé (RPR), who occupied the post of prime minister in 1995-97 and is a close ally of
the
current French president, Jacques Chirac.

The charter of the grouping states: “The founding of our union is a political turning
point
Our families—Gaullists, Christian Democrats, Liberals, Radicals, social and
independents—have, for the first time, united into a single, great movement and, in the
course of so doing, overcome old boundaries.”

However, not all of the classic French right wing participated in the construction of
the UMP:
a part of the UDF under the leadership of François Bayrou refused to join the new
organisation. Other Gaullist leaders, including Charles Pasqua of the RPF
(Rassemblement
pour la France) and Philippe Séguin, the ex-president of the RPR, who both represent
anti-
European tendencies, sharply criticised the founding of the UMP.

The aim of the Le Bourget congress was to give the impression that the UMP is a party
enjoying mass support. According to the organisers of the event, the intention behind
what
they called this “historic event” was to create the appropriate framework for a huge
gathering. To this end, a total of 15,000 people were brought together from all over
France. The congress served as a platform for celebrating the policies of the new
French
government and its right-wing leaders. Jacques Chirac, the real head of the UMP, did
not
turn up for the congress. It is presumed he sought to avoid giving ammunition to his
critics,
who regard the UMP as nothing more than an electoral machine for the president and his
protégé Juppé.

The new party claims that its membership includes all social layers, and it is
especially
interested in attracting young people, wage earners and intellectuals. In fact, the
UMP is far
removed from being a mass party. The publicly acknowledged membership of 164,500 is,
even according to the party’s leader, a wildly exaggerated figure. A more realistic
figure is
thought to be about 80,000. Only around 30,000 took part in the various votes
conducted by
the party on such issues as its name, emblem, the charter, statutes and agenda. Alain
Juppé was elected president of the new organisation with 79.4 percent, corresponding
to a
total of 37,822 votes.

The new party, a fusion of functionaries from a number of parties rather than a mass
movement, has declared its desire to locate itself on the moderate right, but its
ideological
borders are anything but clearly defined. With regard to orientation, vagueness
predominates: apparently there is no real agreement over whether the party should fish
in
the moderate right or establish itself as an openly right-wing party.

Amongst other ambitions, the party seeks to compete with the Green movement and the
Catholic lobby. To this end the UMP has its own ecological wing, “blue ecology,” and
Christine Boutin, the candidate in presidential elections for the anti-abortion lobby,
has
taken her party into the UMP. Room has also been made for a monarchist movement called
“Debout la France” (Onwards France), which won 14.91 percent of the vote for positions
in
the new executive.

The UMP has distanced itself from politicians of the RPR and UDF who sought to work
together with the ultra-right National Front of Jean-Marie Le Pen, and now sought to
join
the new party— figures such as Charles Millon and Jean-Pierre Soissons. At the same
time
it has been argued that the new movement should not seek to keep them out for ever.
Just
two days after the congress a number of leading members of the ultra-right Mouvement
pour La France led by Philippe de Villiers joined the UMP.

The main role model for the UMP is the Spanish Partido Popular (Peoples Party [PP]).
The
chairman of the PP, Jose Maria Aznar, was one of the most prominent guests at the
congress alongside Angela Merkel (of the German Christian Democratic Union [CDU]) and
Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, a representative of the Portuguese right. Aznar used the
congress to hold up his party as an example. Aznar has led the PP since 1989 and has
turned it into a reservoir for Christian Democrats, liberals and supporters of the old
Franco
party, Allianza Popular, where Aznar began his political

Britain may scale back its military assistance
By Anton La Guardia, Diplomatic Editor
(Filed: 11/12/2002)

Britain may scale back its military contribution to a
war in Iraq, particularly if America takes action in the coming weeks, according to
senior
British sources.

Tony Blair has intensified the rhetoric of war in recent days, but Britain has not yet
moved
any heavy equipment to the Middle East to back up its threat of military action.

This is in marked contrast with the United States, which has steadily built up its
forces in
the Gulf and says it will be ready to go to war in January.

Senior Government sources said Mr Blair has been reluctant to order the deployment of
forces to the Gulf because it is politically difficult.

The reasons include the overstretch in the Army caused by the firemen's strike, the
Treasury's reluctance to release the money for a major deployment and the strong
opposition in the Labour Party.

Well-placed sources said the Government is now considering the option of sending a much
smaller force than originally envisaged, perhaps more akin to the British role in
Afghanistan
than to its contribution in the 1991 Gulf war.

The United States needs us politically, not militarily, a senior British source
said. They
can do this by themselves, with a few British troops for the cameras.

But any calls to reduce Britain's role will be tempered by the need to be seen to make
a
substantial contribution if Mr Blair wants to play a major role in shaping the
postSaddam
era in Iraq and promoting a new Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

British contingency planning in Iraq has envisaged deploying a light armoured
division of
up to 23,000 men.

But the Government's delay in deploying troops to the Gulf means it is now virtually
impossible for such a force to fight a campaign before February.

An early war in January means Britain would only be able to contribute lighter forces
- such
as the SAS, 16 Air Assault Brigade and the Royal Marines 3 Commando Brigade -
numbering at most several thousand troops, as well as combat aircraft and a naval
force.

Military planners say the optimum time for the campaign will be before April, after
which
the Iraqi desert heat will make it increasingly difficult for Allied troops to fight
with
protective suits against chemical, biological or nuclear weapons.

The resumption of United Nations weapons inspections in Iraq raised hopes among some
British officials that the process would stretch out over several months and that
America
would revert to a policy of containment rather than regime change through military
force.

But Saddam's refusal to admit that he has any weapons of mass destruction - a claim
rejected as a lie by Britain and America - and his recent menaces to Kuwait suggest he
is in
defiant mood and is set for an early collision with the United States.

A senior Whitehall source said the Prime Minister still hoped to avoid a war. Tony
Blair has
fought hard to go down the UN route and wants it pursued as vigorously as possible.

If there is any chance of avoiding a war he will make every effort to seize it.

Britain has described its policy towards Iraq as a paradox: the best way to prevent
a war
is to present a credible threat of force.

But its own tactics now appear to be undermined by Mr Blair's reluctance to commit
forces
to the region in preparation for a possible war should Saddam be judged to be in
material
breach of UN resolution 1441.

Top 10 rules for survival
Cherie Blair might have avoided the pain of last night's public statement if she had
learned from past scandals
Jonathan Freedland
Tuesday December 10 2002
The Guardian

We don't yet know if Cherie Blair's bravura performance last night has saved her
future seat on the high court, but her entry into another kind of elite pantheon is
already guaranteed. The last 10 days have earned the PM's wife a place in the
ever-fattening textbook of political scandal. She is destined to join Peter Mandelson,
Norman Lamont, Richard Nixon and, of course, Hillary Clinton in the bumper volume that
records the disgrace, deserved and undeserved, that fate routinely heaps on public
figures - and which is bursting with advice for future victims yet unknown.

It's a rich text, though a painfully repetitious one: the characters and storylines
may change, but the same themes come through again and again. The only pity is that
Mrs Blair didn't read the book before now. If she had, it might have spared her some
agony. Here's a distilled version of its 10 key lessons.

 1. It's never the crime, it's always the cover-up. This is the oldest lesson in the
book, yet the world's prominent people never seem to learn it. Richard Nixon gave the
masterclass 30 years ago: Watergate might have remained a third-rate burglary, had
the Nixon White House admitted it from the start. Instead the subsequent lies,
deceptions and obstructions of justice produced the biggest scandal in US history.

Bill Clinton made the same error when he lied (under oath) about Monica: if he had
'fessed up, it would have been embarrassing, but it would never have ended in
impeachment. Likewise if Cherie had said 10 days ago, as soon as the Mail on Sunday
got wind of Peter Foster and those Bristol flats, what she said last night, this story
would have been dead on arrival: I'm not superwoman, I needed help, Carole Caplin came
to the rescue and, yes, I made a mistake in believing her boyfriend was a reformed
character. Fleet Street would have reached for the collective sick bag, but Cherie
would have won.

 2. Get all the facts out in one go. If Mrs Blair had disclosed everything in one
shot, her pursuers would have had nowhere to go. Without a hunt for new, undisclosed
facts a story soon dies. The folly of the alternative approach has been on display for
10 straight days. In the absence of full disclosure, Cherie was submitted to the
drip-drip-drip of daily revelation. All that does is prolong the agony. What's worse,
the scandalee looks like he or she has something to hide, only admitting the truth
when it's dragged out. Witness Cherie's admission yesterday that she looked up the
name of Foster's trial judge: would she have said that if the Daily Mail were not
about to publish it? By telling all, early on, the scandal victim keeps the initiative.

The instructive parallel here is the Whitewater affair which dogged the Clintons'
first term. It could all have been prevented if the relevant papers had been released
in a bloc, right at the start: Bill wanted to do that, Hillary said no. Cherie had the
same instinct.

 3. Context and timing is all. Scandals only blossom if the political climate is
right. Judged on substance alone, the most serious scandal of the Blair period remains
the Formula One affair, in which Labour took Bernie Eccelstone's cash and did a
screaming u-turn to exempt the sport from the ban on tobacco advertising. Yet no heads
rolled over that episode. That's because it broke in the autumn of 1997, when New
Labour was still basking in a honeymoon glow. Voters had a positive view of Tony Blair
which served as a protective shield: the revelations barely left a dent.

Now it's different. There is a mood of rising disaffection, unfocused perhaps, with
this government which makes people willing to hear such negative talk. Impatience at
public service reform, worry about a war on Iraq and anger over university top-up fees
and firefighters' pay are all swirling around - making Labour vulnerable, particularly
with its own supporters. This episode channels at least two elements of that fury.
First, the Blairs are exposed as people with enough cash to buy two classy student
flats, even as they consider charging parents big money to give their kids a
university education. Second they have #163;500k to spend, even as they refuse the
firefighters #163;30k a year.

Labour defenders insist Cheriegate is a media invention, but the evidence, whether
from public meetings or phone-in shows, suggests the episode has stirred some genuine
anger. That may dissipate now that Cherie has appealed above the heads of the Daily
Mail, directly to working mothers like her.

 4. Hypocrisy is always a

How Diamond Joe's libel case could change the future of the internet
Australian court gives millionaire go-ahead to sue US website
David Fickling in Sydney and Stuart Millar
Tuesday December 10 2002
The Guardian

Once it was heralded as the last bastion of freedom of speech, a realm which
transcended national law and the whims of the courts. But last night the internet was
facing up to a harsh new reality after Australia's supreme court ruled that a local
businessman could sue a website for libel in Melbourne even though it was based in the
United States.

In a case which opens up a legal minefield for web publishers across the
English-speaking world, the high court judges decided that an internet article is
published wherever it is read, rather than where the publisher is based. The landmark
ruling is the first instance in the developed world of a libel trial being admitted in
a foreign jurisdiction purely because of the possibility of an article being
downloaded from the internet.

Media companies and internet campaigners immediately denounced the decision amid fears
that it would open the floodgates for a wave of libel actions from around the world.
They said the chilling ruling would seriously undermine the internet's
much-cherished reputation for freedom of speech and raised the threat of
forum-shopping by wealthy litigants looking for the easiest jurisdiction to ensure
their victory in libel proceedings.

The case centres on a two-year-old article about Melbourne gold mining magnate Joe
Gutnick, published in the American business magazine Barron's.

The article, entitled Unholy Gains, alleged that Mr Gutnick - a multimillionaire rabbi
nicknamed Diamond Joe who became a local hero in Melbourne after he saved the local
Australian Rules football club with a A$3m (#163;1.1m) cash injection - was involved
in tax evasion and money laundering.

Most significantly, it claimed that he was the biggest customer of Nachum Goldberg, a
Melbourne money launderer jailed in 2000 for washing A$42m (#163;15.5m) in used notes
through a bogus Israeli charity. Mr Gutnick is suing the American business information
company Dow Jones, which owns Barron's as well as the Wall St Journal. He has brought
the case in Victoria, where libel laws give him a better chance of winning than in the
US, where 98% of Barron's' readers live.

The magazine has 14 subscribers in Australia, of which five are in Victoria. But 1,700
of its internet subscribers had paid their bills using Australian credit cards, and
the court ruled yesterday that this was enough to admit the case in Victoria.

Publishers are not obliged to publish on the internet, the ruling stated. If the
potential reach is uncontrollable then the greater the need to exercise care in
publication.

Barron's offices are in New York, and Dow Jones had argued that the place of internet
publication was New Jersey, where the magazine's web servers are based. The company's
defence even at one point floated the suggestion of declaring the internet a
libel-free zone, based on a 1928 legal decision about the meaning of publication.

In a clear indication of how serious the implications of the ruling may be, 18 of
the world's biggest media organisations - including AOL Time Warner, Amazon and Yahoo!
- made submissions to the court urging the judges to dimiss Mr Gutnick's action.

Mr Gutnick said after yesterday's verdict that the case had been a David and Goliath
battle against all the strongest media in the world.

You have to be careful what you write, and if you offend somebody or write malicious
statements about people, like what was done in my case, you can be subject to being
prosecuted, he told the Nine Network. Dow Jones issued a statement expressing
disappointment at the verdict. The result means that Dow Jones will defend those
proceedings in a juris diction which is far removed from the country in which the
article was prepared and where the vast bulk of Barron's readership resides.

The court made it clear that they were not ruling whether Mr Gutnick had been
libelled, merely that the case could now go ahead.

Crucially, however, the court made clear that a claim could only be brought in
Australia if the person claiming libel had a reputation there that could be defamed.
This will make it difficult for many foreign nationals to use the Australian courts to
pursue internet libel actions.

choice between two equally costly and undesirable options: restricting access to
their websites to prevent people in potentially difficult legal jurisdictions reading

Bohemian Grove: Hell-Fire in a Forest

The Bohemian Club was established in 1872 in San
Francisco as an exclusive club of political and
intellectual figures who wished to spend a certain
amount of time each year relaxing and interacting in a
non-business environment. They began camping on
the site of the present Bohemian Grove, located 3
miles east of Monte Rio and 1 mile from the end of the
Northwest Pacific Railroad Company, in 1891 but
didn't officially acquire the land until 1901. The grove
itself is a total of 2437 acres of uncut redwoods,
including some that are 2000-3000 years old. The land
is occupied by approximately 1500 men -- most of them
political and business dignitaries -- for two weeks
around Midsummer. The encampment is marked by
rituals, talks and entertainment meant to revolve
around the relaxation and friendship of the members,
rather than their political and economic alliances.
On the first Saturday of the camp, an elaborate ritual
called the Cremation of Care is held just after dinner. It
begins with the procession of a group of men, dressed
in red pointed hoods and red robes, some of whom
play a funeral dirge while others carry torches. These
men also carry a rough, open coffin containing a body
made of a black muslin-covered wooden skeleton.
According to Domhoff [G. William Domhoff, author of
The Bohemian Grove and Other Retreats], 'this is the
body of Care, symbolizing the concerns and woes that
important men supposedly must bear in their daily
lives. It is Dull Care which must be cremated.'

'Begone, dull care. Midsummer sets us free!' (chant
  from the Bohemian Grove) [1]

  [Bohemian Grove, the virtual-reality version]

Pike [Albert Pike, 'patron saint' of the Scottish Rite]
was known in his adopted state of Arkansas as a
practitioner of Satanism. His reported sexual
proclivities included sitting astride a phallic throne in
the woods, accompanied by a gang of prostitutes. He
would bring to his revels one or more wagon-loads of
liquor, most of which he would consume over a period
of perhaps 48 hours, until he passed into a stupor. [2]

John DeCamp's book, The Franklin Cover-Up,
includes Paul Bonacci's testimony about a snuff film of
a child being murdered on July 26, 1984 in California
in 'an area that had big trees.' At a meeting in Santa
Rosa, DeCamp told a group that he had edited out
Bonacci's references to an enormous, moss-covered
owl and men in hooded red robes because he not
know then about the owl at the Grove and thought it
'too far fetched for people to believe.' In the fall of
1992, Paul Bonacci was shown a black and white
photo of the moss-covered owl at the Grove and
quickly identified it as the site of the July 1984 snuff
film described in DeCamp's book. Although this
testimony has been available to law enforcement
officials since mid-October 1992, no official
  investigation has been made. [3]

This isn't the typical Bohemian Grove expose which
claims that the large summer gathering consists
entirely of Establishment bigwigs, and that the
Cremation of Care ceremony is an occult ritual. My
position is that it's the equivalent of the outermost
circle of a high-level satanic cult, intended to sift
through those invited to attend, and draw the most
potentially useful toward the center of the cult.
One of the more prominent aspects of the gathering
seems to be to puff up the egotism of the newcomers.
The supposed exclusivity of the event is mentioned in
almost every account I've read. Besides being in itself
an appeal to luciferic tendencies (egotism/selfishness),
it also tends to make them feel as if they're part of the
Establishment, and thus transfer their loyalty away
from mankind in general to the Establishment. The
participation of high-profile lackeys and the speeches
by others are apparently part of this strategy. Based
on what I've seen about the speeches, they're just
  another variety of disinformation.
The religious trappings of the Cremation of Care
ritual have several purposes, although their main
purpose seems to be to create the

Supreme court to decide on Klan's burning cross
Is it freedom of speech or incitement to violence?
Julian Borger in Washington
Tuesday December 10 2002
The Guardian

The US supreme court will today hear arguments about whether the public burning of
wooden crosses by the Ku Klux Klan is an incitement to racial violence or
constitutionally-protected free expression.

The sight of burning crosses near black homes was once a menacing icon of the South.
According to Klan lore, the practice originated as a means of gathering ancient
Scottish clans, but in the South they were used to scare blacks into fleeing from
white neighbourhoods.

Two recent cases have reopened the racially charged debate that pits freedom of speech
against freedom from intimidation.

In one, three white teenagers in Virginia put together an improvised cross and tried
to set it alight outside the home of a black neighbour four years ago.

In the other, also from Virginia in 1998, a white supremacist, Elton Black, was
charged with cross-burning at a Klan rally on private land with the owners' consent,
but in a spot where it could be seen from a public road a mile away, drawing
complaints from neighbours.

In Virginia, as in some other states, the public burning of crosses is banned, but in
other states it is legal. The discrepancy arises from different interpretations of the
US constitution's first amendment, which forbids laws abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press.

The Supreme Court last addressed the issue ten years ago, when it overturned a
cross-burning ban in Minnesota arguing that the ban was a form of discrimination.

Virginia, Florida, California and Washington, have pointed to another Supreme Court
ruling, that hate speech in the course of a crime could be considered an aggravating
factor in sentencing.

They argue that the 1992 decision does not protect people who burn crosses as a
deliberate threat.

A burning cross - standing alone and without explanation - is understood in our
society as a message of intimidation, Virginia's attorney general, Jerry Kilgore,
argued in court documents.

In both the current cases, the federal government favours state prosecutors arguing
that intimidation was not protected speech.

Lawyers for the defendants say that the case against their clients is discriminatory,
pointing out that the law in Virginia does not ban the burning of circles or squares.

According to the defence case submitted to the Supreme Court: It is but a short step
from the banning of offending symbols such as burning crosses or burning flags to the
banning of offending words.

Mr Kilgore argues that the significance of the burning cross sets it apart. He said
that even a white man would feel threatened if he woke up and found a burning cross in
his garden.

Jonathan Turley, a law professor, said the supreme court has a record of being
extremely protective of the right to free speech, but said it might choose to
distinguish between the Black case, where the cross was used in the course of a
meeting, and the other case - in which it was targeted against an individual.

The cases offer the court a great amount of flexibility if it wants to develop a new
rule, Prof Turley said.

[CTRL] ArabNews: What Arabs think about other countries in the world

http://www.arabnews.com/Article.asp?ID=20965

Arab News
SAUDI ARABIA'S FIRST ENGLISH LANGUAGE DAILY

What Arabs think about other countries in the world
By James Zogby, Special to Arab News
Published on 11 December 2002

Americans are frequently asked by public opinion pollsters to give their evaluations
of other
countries in the world. Most often, respondents are asked whether they have a
favorable or
unfavorable attitude toward these other nations. Until now, no such systematic effort
has
ever before been made to determine how Arab public opinion feels about other countries
in
the world. The recently released book What Arabs Think, a landmark view of Arab public
opinion, commissioned by the Arab Thought Foundation, undertakes such an
investigation.

Utilizing the same methodology and approach used in surveying US public opinion, Arab
respondents from eight countries were asked to describe their attitudes, both
favorable and
unfavorable, toward thirteen other countries from different parts of the world. The
countries evaluated were: Russia, China, United States of America, France, India,
Israel,
Pakistan, Iran, Japan, Turkey, Germany, and the United Kingdom. The results of this
survey
are fascinating.

Some observations about the

countries under evaluation

Of all the countries covered in the poll, only France received a consistent net
positive rating
from respondents in all eight Arab countries. France’s best favorable to unfavorable
ratio
comes from Morocco and Lebanon, where nine in 10 were positive, while its poorest
showing is still a net positive score of 50 percent in Saudi Arabia.

Canada, Japan and Iran received positive favorability ratings from respondents in six
of the
eight countries surveyed, while China and Germany were viewed positively in five of the
eight Arab countries.

It might be surprising to some to note that Iran received very high favorable ratings
in
Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and also recorded high positive ratings in Lebanon and Egypt.

At the other end of the continuum, Israel received the lowest favorability score of
any of the
thirteen countries covered in our study, only breaking out of single digit
favorability ratings
among its own Arab citizens.

Still, this community gave Israel only a 16 percent favorability rating. In no other
country did
the state score higher than eight percent.

Also receiving net negative scores from respondents in all eight countries were the US
and
the United Kingdom. The favorability ratio given to the US was significantly lower
than that
given to the UK, and was especially low in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab
Emirates,
and among Arabs in Israel. (It is interesting, for comparison purposes, to contrast
the very
negative attitudes of the Arab respondents to these two English-speaking countries with
more positive Arab attitudes toward Canada).

Turkey also did quite poorly, receiving only slightly net positive ratings in two of
the eight
countries surveyed.

Observations about the Arab respondents

Overall, Jordanians seemed to be the most favorably inclined toward the countries
covered
in the survey. They granted positive favorability ratings to nine of the thirteen
countries
under evaluation, although none received exceptionally high positive percentages.

While Lebanese rated eight countries favorably, the favorability scores they offered
to those
countries were among the highest of all of those given by Arab respondents.

The Lebanese gave six countries greater than a 60 percent favorability rating, with
five of
the six receiving a greater than two to one favorability ratio.

Other Arab countries expressing far more positive than negative feelings toward the
thirteen countries covered in the study were Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

Clearly, the responses point to an Arab concern with the US and Israel. It is not, as
some
might hasten to construe, an anti-Western sentiment at work, since France and Canada,
both Western countries, were among the countries receiving the highest favorability
ratings.
Germany also received strong positive scores from most Arab respondents.

As we found in an earlier study conducted by Zogby International in April of 2002, Arab
unfavorable attitudes toward the US were a function of US policy in the Arab world.

In that study, which we called Impressions of America, we found that although Arabs who
were polled in five Arab countries (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon and UAE) had
strong favorable attitudes toward American science and technology, freedom and
democracy, education, movies and television, and also had largely favorable attitudes
toward the American people. However, they had extremely negative attitudes toward US
policy vis-à-vis the Arab world, Iraq, and most especially toward Palestine.

The book, What Arabs Think, actually takes this examination of Arab attitudes toward
the
US one step further by asking the 3,800 respondents from the eight

Republicans can lie,
Dems can't. Why?

Tuesday, December 10th, 2002

I'm in Bill Clinton's head as he reads the morning papers. I arrive just as Clinton
turns to
the story saying that Elliott Abrams has been named the Bush administration's Middle
East
honcho. A blast of white heat engulfs me.

Can you believe that? I hear him say. Elliott Abrams. The same guy who twice lied to
Congress. He pleaded guilty to withholding information from a Senate committee and then
a House committee. The only reason he wasn't strung up for perjury is that he wasn't
under oath - a distinction without much of a difference.

This guy could have taught me some lessons. He was asked if the Reagan administration
had solicited a $10 million loan from the sultan of Brunei for the Nicaraguan Contras.
He
said the report was 'false.' Later, he said the answer was technically correct because
the
money hadn't yet arrived. It's all a matter of tense - a case of what you mean by 'is.'

The second lie was even more of a jaw-dropper. He denied that the Reagan
administration
was helping the Contras. I just looked up what he said. 'It's not our supply system.'
But it
was their supply system. And Congress had passed a law forbidding aid to the Contras.
He
broke the law. He lied about it. He got convicted, and then he got a presidential
pardon
from Pappa Bush.

I don't get it. I lied about sex, which, of course, wasn't really sex anyway, and I
got
impeached for it. All these Republicans were jumping up and down, saying my case wasn't
really about sex, but about the rule of law. No man can be above the law. Yeah, right!
But
no man tells the truth about sex, either.

You know what Abrams said later, in his book? He was the victim of an overzealous
prosecutor. What does he know about an overzealous prosecutor? Keyhole Ken Starr took a
bogus sexual harassment charge by Paula Jones and turned it into a capital crime.
Abrams
was prosecuted by one of Santa's elves.

This really frazzles me. Where's Henry Hyde bellowing about how the government can't
function if officials don't tell the truth? 'Truth-telling is the heart and soul of
our justice
system,' he told the House when they were trying to lynch me. Well, what about truth-
telling when it comes to Abrams?

And what about Tom DeLay, that sanctimonious hypocrite? He and Hyde are in Congress,
the very body that Abrams lied to. Not a peep, though. So it isn't just about truth.
It's about
ideology and politics. These guys will get on the radio with Oliver North or Gordon
Liddy, but
they only care about truth, honesty and the American way when a Democrat's involved.
Republicans can lie, but Democrats can't.

I guess it's a rule, but I don't like it.

I know what they're gonna say: that I lied to protect myself. It was selfish. Abrams
lied to
protect a secret policy. That was noble. But you can't allow government officials to
decide
for themselves when to lie and when to tell the truth. They all gotta tell the truth,
especially
to Congress.

Bush ran on this platform of moral purity. Then he turns around as President and
chooses
liars for high government positions, and no one says a peep. I'm waitin' on those
hyperventilating hypocrites on talk TV to say something. The country's about to go to
war
on little more than the President's word. Maybe he won't lie. But he's hired people who
have.

I should have been born a Republican. It's even better than being in love. You never,
ever,
have to say you're sorry.

eBay hit by credit card scam

The world's largest online auction site eBay has been targeted by fraudsters using a
shadow site to steal credit card details from its 55 million customers.

The scam involved sending e-mails to customers asking them to log on to a Florida-based
website - ebayupdates.com - and re-submit their financial details.

[eBay] never asks its
users for their user ID and password

eBay
We at Ebay are sorry to
inform you that we are having problems with the billing information of your account,
the e-
mails said, writing the name incorrectly with a capital E.

We would appreciate it if you would visit our website [Ebay Billing Center] http://
www.ebayupdates.com and fill out the proper information that we are needing to keep you
as an Ebay member.

US internet watchdog SANS Institute Internet Storm Center has issued a warning about
the
site.

Taken down

In a statement to BBC News Online, eBay said it never asks its users for their user
ID and
password.

Fraud constitutes less than 0.01% of all transactions that take place on the site,
it added.

The shadow site has been taken down.

The e-mails began appearing about a week ago.

eBay warning

The WHOIS database of websites showed ebayupdates.com was registered in Niceville,
Florida on 6 December this year.

California-based eBay has issued warnings on its site about e-mails asking for
passwords or
credit card details.

Some members have reported attempts to gain access to their personal information
through e- mail solicitations that are falsely made to appear as having come from
eBay,
the company said.

These solicitations will often contain links to web pages that will request that you
sign in
and submit information...eBay employees will never ask you for your password.

In November it was reported that some eBay customers' e-mail addresses could be seen on
the company's website.

'Christian Zionist Embassy' Vilifies Christian Leader for Criticizing Israel

December 08, 2002, 08:58 PM

The letter, written in a vitriolic tone, demanded that the Orthodox Patriarch of
Jerusalem
punish and banish Rev. Hanna Atallah ..

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM - The so-called Christian Embassy, in West Jerusalem, run by a
group of European and North American Jews, has sent a threatening letter to the
Christian
Orthodox Patriarchy headquarters in East Jerusalem, demanding the dismissal of an
outspoken Orthodox leader for criticizing Israeli state terror against Palestinians.

The letter, written in a vitriolic tone, demanded that the Orthodox Patriarch of
Jerusalem
punish and banish Rev. Hanna Atallah because of his incitement against Christian
Zionism
churches.

The letter also recommended that Atallah be declared an enemy of Judaism and Jews.

The Orthodox Church dismissed the letter as insignificant, adding that the so-called
Christian embassy of Jerusalem was not an authentic Christian body.

Those people are not really Christians, they are Zionist Jews in heart who bear
Christian
names and titles in order to deceive common people, said a source at the Orthodox
Patriarchy offices.

The raison d??tre of this group is to enlist Christian support for Israels genocidal
terror
against Palestinians, Muslims and Christians alike. In light, I would like to ask:
Since when
supporting terror and murder and all other acts of repression represent the way of
Christ?

The Christian embassy, while ignoring Christian Palestinians, often raises money to
build
Jewish-only settlements on the West Bank and Gaza Strip and also finances the transfer
of
Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union to Palestine.

Jimmy Carter – Nobel Lecture

Nobel Lecture, Oslo, December 10, 2002

Your Majesties, Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Excellencies, Ladies and
Gentlemen,

It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I accept this prize. I am grateful to my wife
Rosalynn, to my colleagues at The Carter Center, and to many others who continue to
seek
an end to violence and suffering throughout the world. The scope and character of our
Center's activities are perhaps unique, but in many other ways they are typical of the
work
being done by many hundreds of nongovernmental organizations that strive for human
rights and peace.

Most Nobel Laureates have carried out our work in safety, but there are others who have
acted with great personal courage. None has provided more vivid reminders of the
dangers
of peacemaking that two of may friends, Anwar Sadat and Yitzak Rabin, who gave their
lives for the cause of peace in the Middle East.

Like these two heroes, my first chosen career was in the military, as a submarine
officer.
My shipmates and I realized that we had to be ready to fight if combat was forced upon
us,
and we were prepared to give our lives to defend our nation and its principles. At the
same
time, we always prayed fervently that our readiness would ensure that there would be no
war.

Later, as President and as Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, I was one of those
who bore the sobering responsibility of maintaining global stability during the height
of the
Cold War, as the world's two superpowers confronted each other. Both sides understood
that an unresolved political altercation or a serious misjudgment could lead to a
nuclear
holocaust. In Washington and in Moscow, we knew that we would have less than a half
hour to respond after we learned that intercontinental missiles had been launched
against
us. There had to be a constant and delicate balancing of our great military strength
with
aggressive diplomacy, always seeking to build friendships with other nations, large and
small, that shared a common cause.

In those days, the nuclear and conventional armaments of the United States and the
Soviet
Union were almost equal, but democracy ultimately prevailed because of commitments to
freedom and human rights, not only by people in my country and those of our allies,
but in
the former Soviet empire as well. As president, I extended my public support and
encouragement to Andrei Sakharov, who, although denied the right to attend the
ceremony,
was honored here for his personal commitments to these same ideals.

The world has changed greatly since I left the White House. Now there is only one
superpower, with unprecedented military and economic strength. The coming budget for
American armaments will be greater than those of the next fifteen nations combined, and
there are troops from the United States in many countries throughout the world. Our
gross
national economy exceeds that of the three countries that follow us, and our nation's
voice
most often prevails as decisions are made concerning trade, humanitarian assistance,
and
the allocation of global wealth. This dominant status is unlikely to change in our
lifetimes.

Great American power and responsibility are not unprecedented, and have been used with
restraint and great benefit in the past. We have not assumed that super strength
guarantees super wisdom, and we have consistently reached out to the international
community to ensure that our own power and influence are tempered by the best common
judgment.

Within our country, ultimate decisions are made through democratic means, which tend to
moderate radical or ill- advised proposals. Constrained and inspired by historic
constitutional principles, our nation has endeavored for more than two hundred years to
follow the now almost universal ideals of freedom, human rights, and justice for all.

Our president, Woodrow Wilson, was honored here for promoting the League of Nations,
whose two basic concepts were profoundly important: collective security and self-
determination. Now they are embedded in international law. Violations of these
premises
during the last half-century have been tragic failures, as was vividly demonstrated
when the
Soviet Union attempted to conquer Afghanistan and when Iraq invaded Kuwait.

After the second world war, American Secretary of State Cordell Hull received this
prize for
his role in founding the United Nations. His successor, General George C. Marshall, was
recognized because of his efforts to help rebuild Europe, without excluding the

[CTRL] 250 U.S. Military in Kuwait Sickened

250 U.S. Military in Kuwait
Sickened

KUWAIT CITY (AP) - Some 250
U.S. military personnel
have been treated for food poisoning after eating at a
camp south of Kuwait City, and two of them are
hospitalized, an American military spokesman said
Wednesday.

The Army soldiers, Navy sailors and Marines were
treated Monday for symptoms of food poisoning at the
Oraifijan installation and released back to work within
24 hours, Sgt. First Class David Dismukes said.

We don't know at this point what it is, Dismukes told
The Associated Press, declining to say if terrorism was
suspected. He said laboratory test results were expected
later Wednesday.

Only two have been admitted to the Kuwait Armed
Forces Hospital for further evaluation, he said,
declining to provide any further information about their
condition.

U.S. contractor Brown and Root provides food to the
facility, about 35 miles south of Kuwait City. The
company also does cleaning and general labor,
Dismukes said.

There are around 12,000 U.S. military in Kuwait, a major
ally of Washington in the Gulf. Most are involved in
exercises under a defense pact signed after the 1991
Gulf War that liberated Kuwait from a seven-month Iraqi
occupation.

A U.S. Marine was killed and a second was wounded
Oct. 8 when two Kuwaiti Muslim fundamentalists opened
fire on a group of Marines taking a break from training
on the island of Failaka. The attackers were killed by
other Marines. On Nov. 21, a Kuwaiti policeman shot
and seriously injured two U.S. soldiers after stopping
their car on a highway.

Kuwait could become a launching pad for a U.S. attack
on Iraq if the United Nations approves.

People confuse 'democracy' with a free society. 'Democratic' societies
are usually authoritarian. In a democracy, the majority tyrannize
the minority. A democracy can legalize slavery if the majority votes
for it. Most modern democracies degenerate into oligarchies wherein
the influential few manipulate the majority through a structured electoral
process strictly controlled by political parties that in turn are
controlled and
funded by the influential few.

The only guarantee of a free society is a Constitutional Republic that
guarantees minority rights against the tyranny of the majority. That is
why the US is supposed to be a constitutional republic - NOT a
democracy.

Unfettered democracy equals tyranny.

Bob,

this is the source info:

-Victor Ostrovsky: How Mossad got America to bomb Libya and fight Iraq

by, Victor Ostrovsky and Claire Hoy

Revealing the facts as I know them from my vantage point of four
years spent inside the Mossad was by no means an easy task.

Coming from an ardent Zionist background, I had been taught that the
state of Israel was incapable of misconduct. That we were the David
in the unending struggle against the ever-growing Goliath. That there
was no one out there to protect us but ourselves - a feeling
reinforced by the Holocaust survivors who lived among us.

We, the new generation of Israelites, the resurrected nation on its
own land after more than two thousand years of exile, were entrusted
with the fate of the nation as a whole.

The commanders of our army were called champions, not generals. Our
leaders were captains at the helm of a great ship. I was elated when
I was chosen and granted the privilege to join what I considered to
be the elite team of the Mossad.

But it was the twisted ideals and self-centered pragmatism that I
encountered inside the Mossad, coupled with this so-called team's
greed, lust, and total lack of respect for human life, that motivated
me to tell this story.

It is out of love for Israel as a free and just country that I am
laying my life on the line by so doing, facing up to those who took
it upon themselves to turn the Zionist dream into the present-day
nightmare.

The Mossad, being the intelligence body entrusted with the
responsibility of plotting the course for the leaders at the helm of
the nation, has betrayed that trust. Plotting on its own behalf, and
for petty, self-serving reasons, it has set the nation on a collision
course with all-out war.

One of the main themes of this book is Victor's belief that Mossad is
out of control, that even the prime minister, although ostensibly in
charge, has no real authority over its actions ...

The Mossad - believe it or not - has just 30 to 35 case officers, or
katsas, operating in the world at any one time. The main reason for
this extraordinary low total, as you will read in this book, is that
unlike other countries, Israel can tap the significant and loyal
cadre of the worldwide Jewish community outside Israel. This is done
through a unique system of sayanim, volunteer Jewish helpers.

My first six weeks were uneventful. I worked at the downtown office,
essentially as a gofer and filing clerk. But one chilly day in
February 1984, I found myself joining 14 others on a small bus. ...
This course was to be known as Cadet 16, as it was the sixteenth
course of Mossad cadets.

He walked briskly to the head of the table while the other two sat at
the back of the room. My name is Aharon Sherf, he said. I am the
head of the Academy. Welcome to the Mossad. Its full name is Ha
Mossad, le Modiyn ve le Tafkidim Mayuhadim [the Institute for
Intelligence and Special Operations]. Our motto is: 'By way of
deception, thou shalt do war.'

It's the old Trojan dick trick. He lit a cigarette.

What's that? I couldn't help smiling; I'd never heard it called
that before.

I knew that would get your attention, he said, grinning. Shimon
activated Operation Trojan in February of this year.

I nodded. I'd still been in the Mossad when that order was given, and
because of my naval background and acquaintance with most of the
commanders in the navy, I participated in the planning for the
operation as liaison with the navy.

A Trojan was a special communication device that could be planted by
naval commandos deep inside enemy territory. The device would act as
a relay station for misleading transmissions

In the latest issue of LOBSTER is an article by Colin Challen MP titled
"The party of business and the business of party" in which he reviews David
Osler's book "Labour Party Plc," which Challen says:

'seeks to show that Labour, or should we say
New Labour has become a slave to the private sector,
thus turning its back on its roots.'

I can't argue with that. Challen then observes that New Labour:

"has become what we always feared: the American
model of business politics has achieved a much
greater purchase on the British scene thatn most people would
think healthy. The US model, to recap, is more
concerned with personality than partisanship."

Challen then proceeds to quote from Dick Morris, the former senior Clinton
aide who said thus:

'That's why the centre is so viable, and that's my idea
of triangulation: take the best of each and merge them.
That's not political immorality, it's an act of political sagacity and a
recognition of the notion of [the?]
Hegelian triangle - the thesis, the antithesis, and the synthesis - which Hegel
posits and which Marx and I agree is how
history moves forward.'

Perhaps not so odd considering Clinton is a Rhodes scholar. Then from
the Internet the following piece I was just sent.

http://www.knology.net/~bilrum/rhodes.htm

REVIEWING THE RHODES
LEGACY

By William F. Jasper

"In America, where idealism is the
yardstick used to judge a generation's collective virtue, Rhodes scholars are
its masters," says Rhodes scholar Peter Beinart. "They are chosen as much
for their public-spiritedness as for their academic prowess. Not all want to run
for elective office, but the bulk think their talents can be most fully realized
through public service. Like Clinton, my peers believe earnestly in government.
Above all, they believe in themselves in government."
Writing in the "My Turn" section of Newsweek's January 16th
issue,Beinart, a 23-year-old student now in his second year at Oxford
University, offers a perceptive critique of the "Rhodie" tendency to giddily
embrace idealism as "summum bonum". Beinart notes that "such idealism should
be refreshing. Yet after a year at Oxford, it makes me uneasy. The committment
to government my colleagues express so passionately is rarely linked to a clear
vision of what government should doI'm afraid that the idealism for which
Rhodes scholars receive praise is less an antidote to the problems of American
politics than a symptom of them."
"Lacking a vision of political service in pursuit of specific
ends,"observes Beinart, "the rhetoric of idealism allows Rhodes scholars
to justify and celebrate political service per se. Idealism masks an ideological
vacuum."
PROBLEM IDEALISM
On the pernicious potential of misdirected idealism Bienart scores some
important points. However, it is not idealism per se, but a particular kind of
idealism, of which Rhodies are typically imbued, that is the problem under
consideration here. And it is certainly not an idealism proceeding from an
"ideological vacuum." If that were the case, we would expect to see idealism
manifested and expressed in a diversity of shapes and forms, as for instance:
Christian idealism versus humanist/pagan/atheist idealism, individualist versus
collectivist idealism, libertarian versus totalitarian idealism, nationalist
versus globalist idealism, etc.
The Oxonian idealism, however, seems to run almost invariably along the
humanist/pagan/atheist, collectivist, totalitarian, globalist, elitist lines.
Perhaps Beinart's peers do not explicitly subscribe to such a nasty idealism,
but, apparently, it is implicit - at least in the formative stages - in their

Drugs, Guns and Money

Busted, a new anthology, and the case for legalization
by Judith Lewis

JUST ABOUT EVERYONE HATES THE WAR ON Drugs. Public
officials and pundits at every point along the
political spectrum, from the governors of New Mexico
and Minnesota to the former mayor of Baltimore, have
railed against its wastefulness; Detroit Police Chief
Jerry Oliver blames it for exacerbating inner-city
crime. William F. Buckley calls it a plague that
consumes an estimated $75 billion per year in public
money; Christopher Hitchens has labeled it
grotesque, state-sponsored racketeering. According
to a poll conducted by the Pew Research Center last
year, three-quarters of the country believes the drug
war is failing. Enter the words end the war on drugs
into Google, and you'll get some 2,400 links, leading
to the Web sites of religious groups, corporate-media
sources and drug-legalization advocacy groups.

You might also get a couple of sponsored links --
paid advertisements Google coughs up when you search
for certain keywords. One evening I got two: an ad for
Questia.com, where you can research the War on Drugs
at the world's largest online library, and another
for www.mymeds.org, advertising Xanax, Valium,
Lortab, etc. (Import a 90-day personal supply). The
irony is obvious, and clichéd enough to be comical: As
Mike Gray points out in the introduction to his new
anthology, Busted: Stone Cowboys, Narco-Lords and
Washington's War on Drugs, the U.S. government spends
over $40 billion annually to promote the cause of a
drug-free America, while Bob Dole appears on national
television shilling for Viagra. Marijuana is
non-lethal and non-addictive, but you can't talk about
it on the phone; Xanax is known to be dangerously
addictive and Valium is responsible for thousands of
deaths by overdose every year, but both are readily
available with the click of a mouse.

There has never been a drug-free society anywhere,
argues Gray, also author of the 1998 Drug Crazy: How
We Got Into This Mess and How We Can Get Out, least
of all in the United States where the dividing line
between legal and illegal seems almost whimsical.

This deep societal muddle-mindedness finds a parallel
in public attitudes toward the control of illegal
substances. Despite a majority vote of non-confidence
for the drug war, the Pew study found that most
Americans still defend its tactics. Over half of the
people interviewed believed that arresting and locking
up both drug users and dealers were the best solutions
to our drug problems, even while our prisons fill to
bursting with nonviolent offenders. Just as many poll
participants agreed that more needed to be done to
halt the importation of illegal substances, even
though attempts to shut down the international market
have only contributed to a more sophisticated network
of international criminals willing to risk their lives
to satisfy the lucrative American market. And so the
drug war continues unabated, with the Bush
administration -- for which legalization proponents
once held out hope -- amping up spending on
interdiction and enforcement and aiming to expand
punishable offenses to include driving while under the
influence of yesterday's marijuana. The DEA, in an
effort to make wayward states comply with the federal
ban on any kind of marijuana use, has stooped so low
that it's raiding California hospices and carting away
the terminally ill. The War on Drugs, says Ethan
Nadelmann of the Drug Policy Alliance, a think tank
advocating drug-law reform, just keeps getting bigger

(CBS) Politicians have had to sell the public on going to war since Colonial
times, but they never had the arsenal of advertising and communications
techniques the Bush administration is using to sell a possible war on Iraq.
Bob Simon reports on those techniques and those employed by the elder Bush
prior to the 1991 Gulf War.

Simon reminds viewers that a horrible story spread widely by the first Bush
administration prior to the Gulf War about Kuwaiti babies pulled from
incubators by invading Iraqis turned out not to be true. The current Bush
administration may be also misinforming the public in its efforts to justify
a possible second war with Saddam Hussein.

One example of misinformation, according to physicist and former weapons
inspector David Albright, was the Bush administration’s leak to the media in
September about Iraq’s attempt to import aluminum tubes which administration
officials claimed were headed for Iraq’s nuclear program.

“I think it was very misleading,” says Albright, who directs the Institute
for Science and International Security. Albright says the tubes could be
possibly used for a nuclear program, but were more suited to conventional
weapons production. Government experts thought that too, Albright tells
Simon, but administration officials “were selectively picking information to
bolster a case that the Iraqi nuclear threat was more imminent than it is,
and, in essence, scare people.”

Simon’s report examines the administration’s use of Madison Avenue to
produce an ad campaign aimed at improving the image of America in the Muslim
world. He also interviews a former CIA agent who investigated the
oft-mentioned report that hijacker Mohammed Atta met with an Iraqi
intelligence official in Prague several months before the deadly attacks on
9/11.

Despite a lack of evidence that the meeting took place, the item was cited
by administration officials as high as Vice President Dick Cheney and ended
up being reported so widely that two-thirds of Americans polled by the
Council on Foreign Relations believe Iraq was behind the terrorist attacks
of 9/11.

censorship all the time, they are notexclusiveconcepts.Note
I clearly state that I think censorship is wrong, but it does
notmake a country not a democracy.People confuse 'democracy'
with a free society. 'Democratic' societiesare usually authoritarian. In a
democracy, the majority tyrannizethe minority. A democracy can legalize
slavery if the majority votesfor it. Most modern democracies degenerate into
oligarchies whereinthe influential few manipulate the majority through a
structured electoralprocess strictly controlled by political parties that in
turn arecontrolled andfunded by the influential few.The only
guarantee of a free society is a Constitutional Republic thatguarantees
minority rights against the tyranny of the majority. That iswhy the US is
supposed to be a constitutional republic - NOT ademocracy.Unfettered

U.S. Releases Missile Shipment to Yemen

By Ahmed Al-HajSAN'A, Yemen #150;#150; The U.S. Navy released the shipment of
North Korean-made Scud missiles it seized, sending the vessel and its cargo on their
way Wednesday to the original destination of Yemen.PWhite House spokesman Ari
Fleischer said the United States had authority to stop and search the vessel, but not
to seize it.PThere is no clear authority to seize the shipment, Fleischer told a
news conference in Washington. The merchant vessel is being released.PYemeni
Foreign Ministry officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated
Press the decision followed high-level contact between Yemen and the United
States.PThe official Saba news agency said the United States had assured Yemen that
the shipment would be released as long as the Yemen-North Korea deal was concluded on
legal basis.PVice President Dick Cheney told Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh
that President Bush ordered the shipment to be returned, Saba reported. Fleischer said
Cheney and Secretary of State Colin Powell had talked with Yemeni authorities.PThe
Spanish navy had stopped the ship Monday off the Arabian peninsula, and U.S.
authorities boarded it on Tuesday. The action came after intelligence officials
watched the ship for weeks as part of an interdiction operation in the U.S.-led war on
terrorism.PSpanish Defense Minister Federico Trillo said Wednesday the unflagged
vessel was carrying 15 Scud missiles hidden in a cargo of cement.PWe became aware
of the departure of the ship from North Korea that was carrying what we believe to be
weapons of concern, Fleischer said. This was a non-flagged vessel, which gave us
further concern. And the vessel was destined for Yemen.PWe had a concern about what
was on it. We had a concern before ascertaining, indeed, that it was going to Yemen,
that it may have been heading for a nation that is a potential terrorist nation.PAs
a result, the action that was taken, where the ship was stopped and boarded,
Fleischer continued. We have looked at this
rnational law prohibiting Yemen from accepting delivery of missiles from North
Korea.PThe Bush administration in August imposed sanctions on the North Korean
company Changgwang Sinyong Corp. for selling Scud missile parts to Yemen. At that
time, U.S. authorities asked Yemen why it bought the parts; San'a apologized and
promised not to do so again, two defense officials said Wednesday in
Washington.PUnder the U.S. sanctions, Changgwang Sinyong Corp. will be barred for
two years from obtaining new individual export licenses through the Commerce or State
departments for any controlled items. The sanctions have little practical effect, one
official said, because there is so little commerce between the United States and North
Korea.PBefore the ship was freed, Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Kerbi summoned
U.S. Ambassador Edmund J. Hull to tell him the arms shipment was a property of the
Yemeni government and its armed forces and demanded that the United States should hand
the shipment over to Yemen, Saba reported.PThe weapons contained in the shipment
were to be used for defensive purposes as Yemen has no aggressive intentions toward
any country, and owning such weapons would not harm the international peace and
security, Saba quoted the official protest handed to Hull.PYemeni officials had
refused further details about the deal, including from what threat the Scud missiles
were designed as a defense.PThe Saba agency said the memo given to Hull claimed the
shipment was part of a long-standing deal with North Korea. A senior Yemeni official,
speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the
Americans knew of the deal.PTrillo, Spain's Defense Minister, said the U.S. Navy had
been planning to take the ship to Diego Garcia island, a British island leased to the
United States as a military base.PSpain's role in the shipment's seizure earned the
country a Yemeni protest memorandum as well in which San'a said the Spanish navy
didn't serve (to improve) relations betw
was silent Wednesday about the interception of the ship, but said it had the right to
develop weapons to defend itself.PIt is necessary to heighten vigilance against the
U.S. strategy for world supremacy and 'anti-terrorism war,' the North's official
newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, said in an editorial.PAll the countries are called upon
to build self-reliant military power by their own efforts, the newspaper said. It was
unclear whether the editorial was a response to the interception, as North Korea
usually takes several

In high school he won two science fair prizes for a light-following electronic turtle and a tape-controlled robot hand. As an undergraduate he designed a computer to control fancier robots, and experimented with learning and automatic programming on commercial machines. During his master's work he built a small robot with whiskers and photoelectric eyes controlled by a minicomputer, and wrote a thesis on a computer language for artificial intelligence. He received a PhD from Stanford University in 1980 for a TV-equipped robot, remote controlled by a large computer, that negotiated cluttered obstacle courses, taking about five hours. Since 1980 his Mobile Robot Lab at CMU has discovered more effective approaches for robot spatial representation, notably 3D occupancy grids, that, with newly available computer power, promise commercial free-ranging mobile robots within a decade. His books, Mind Children: the future of robot and human intelligence, 1988, and Robot: mere machine to transcendent mind, 1998, consider the implications of evolving robot intelligence. He has published many papers and articles in robotics, computer graphics, multiprocessors, space travel and other speculative areas.

According to him the silicon computer is a dumb machine whereas these biologicalcomputers powered with neurons will cometo the correct answer by themselves based on the partial information provided to them. At present, the computer is able to performonly simple mathematical functions, but the aim is to devise a new generation of fast and flexible computers that can work out forthemselves on how to solve a problem. This approach to computing is particularly suitedto pattern recognition tasks like reading handwriting, which would take enormous amounts of power on a conventional computer. In this invention Leech neurons are used as leeches have been extensively studied and understood and are known to form their own connections from one to another. The Pope's Left-turn on Immigration
By Jim Kalb
FrontPageMagazine.com | December 10, 2002

Here's the Pope's message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, which I gather is
an annual

event in the Catholic Church: To Overcome Racism, Xenophobia and Exaggerated
Nationalism. What he says is in one sense typical -- it follows the line all
respectable
Christian religious leaders now follow -- but in another sense quite extraordinary:

He speaks of undocumented migrants as among the most vulnerable of foreigners, of
the Christian duty to welcome whoever comes knocking out of need, of true acceptance
of immigrants in their cultural diversity, and of Christ, who through us wishes to
continue
in history and in the world his work of liberation from all forms of discrimination,
rejection,
and marginalization.
He urge[s] Catholics to excel in the spirit of solidarity towards newcomers among
them.
Such openness builds up vibrant Christian communities. Therefore, Christians must
struggle to overcome any tendency to turn in on themselves. He further points out
that if
newcomers feel unwelcome as they approach a particular parish community because they
do not speak the local language or follow local customs, they easily become 'lost
sheep'.
The loss of such 'little ones' for reasons of even latent discrimination should be a
cause of
grave concern to pastors and faithful alike.
He further requests that Catholics work with other ecclesial communities to create
societies in which the cultures of migrants and their special gifts are sincerely
appreciated,
and in which manifestations of racism, xenophobia, and exaggerated nationalism are
prophetically opposed.
He notes, however, that solidarity does not come easily. It requires training and a
turning
away from attitudes of closure, which in many societies today have become more subtle
and penetrating. To deal with this phenomenon, the Church possesses vast educational
and
formative resources at all levels. I therefore appeal to parents and teachers to combat
racism and xenophobia by inculcating positive attitudes based on Catholic social
doctrine.

What does all this add up to?

First, it appears that every country should have open borders. If they aren't open,
some
migrants will be undocumented and therefore become the special objects of hospitality
and
care. But if we have to welcome and care for them anyway, why not make it official and
give all comers papers at the border?

Second, the flood of immigrants should be welcomed by local communities just as they
are,
and truly accepted in their cultural diversity. No boundaries of any kind may be drawn,
because even the hint of a boundary would be latent discrimination. The Catholic Church
should use its vast resources to inculcate such attitudes, and work with others to
spread
them through society generally. That, as all social concerns bureaucrats agree, is
the
prophetic function of the Church.

But what of the local culture? The Pope also invite[s] the immigrants to recognize
the duty
to honor the countries which receive them and to respect the laws, culture, and
traditions
of the people who have welcomed them. So it appears the net effect is to be a world
without boundaries of any kind, in which each is equally present to all others and each
respects and honors the particularities of all.

By calling for such a thing the Pope is saying nothing new but simply repeating with
his
usual intellectual and moral fervor the view all official moral teachers hold today.
What he
and other moral teachers leave unexplained, however, is how the particularities that
are to
be honored will be able to exist as anything but individual idiosycrasies in a world
utterly
without boundaries in which no culture is authoritative because each is equally
present and
equally honored.

The short answer is that they won't. A culture is a particular complex of habits,
understandings and loyalties that are normative although mostly unstated among a
particular group of people. As such, it requires boundaries. A culture can exist as a
culture
only among a group of people who have grown into it together and feel that among
themselves they can take it for granted. Such conditions cannot exist in a group that
feels
obligated to be utterly and continuously open to numerous new arrivals, avoiding even
latent discrimination, and called to honor them in all their otherness.

What the Pope is calling for is therefore not the honoring of culture but the
abolition of
culture by the abolition of every social setting in which any particular culture can
exist.
Surely that is wrong. A culture is a mode of being human, and is always particular.
Because
man is a social animal, participation in culture -- and therefore in a particular
culture -- is
necessary for a fully human life. If it weren't needed, why all the talk in the Church
about
inculturation?

[CTRL] We'll use nukes, US warns Iraq

2002-12-11 Thread David Sutherland
-Caveat Lector-

We'll use nukes,
US warns Iraq
America warned Saddam Hussein it would
retaliate with a nuclear attack if Iraq used weapons of mass
destruction.
The White House said it would "respond with
overwhelming force" including "all options" if the US, its troops or its allies
were struck by biological, chemical, radiological or nuclear arms.
A six-page White House policy blueprint
entitled the National Strategy to Combat Weapons of Mass Destruction said the
options include a "conventional and nuclear response".
Officials said the report, which is to be
presented to Congress, is intended as a warning to Saddam.
"The language speaks for itself, and I think
it does apply to any state that would use weapons of mass destruction against
us," a senior Bush Administration official said.

President George Bush's father sent a similar warning
to Saddam in January 1991, on the eve of the Gulf War.
The older Mr Bush told the Iraqi leader in a
letter that he would pay a "terrible price" if he used chemical or biological
weapons.
The new report states: "The United States
will continue to make clear that it reserves the right to respond with
overwhelming force - including through resort to all of our options - to the use
of weapons of mass destruction against the United States, our forces abroad, and
friends and allies."
It added: "We will not permit the world's
most dangerous regimes and terrorists to threaten us with the world's most
destructive weapons."
America is also preparing to use land mines
in a war with Iraq, despite US policy that calls for a ban on mines everywhere
in the world except Korea by next year.
The US has stockpiled anti-personnel land
mines at its military bases in countries ringing Iraq, according to Pentagon
records.
Some of the mines are stored on Diego Garcia,
a British-owned island in the Indian Ocean where US forces have a
base.
Up to 20,000 people are killed or maimed
worldwide each year by land mines, according to the United Nations. Of those, 80
per cent are civilians and one-third are children.
But a Pentagon spokesman told USA Today the
mines play a "vital and essential role" in battle by restricting where the enemy
can move and protecting American troops.
Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy, a prominent
critic of land mines, said their use in Iraq would be a "terrible
mistake".
"They are outmoded, indiscriminate weapons
that have been banned by every other Nato member except Turkey, and they should
be banned by the United States," he told USA Today.
"We have other far more effective and precise
weapons to do the job."©AAP

[CTRL] Henry Kissinger: We Can Do Anything We Want!

2002-12-11 Thread William Shannon
http://www.babelmagazine.com/issue85/kissinger.html

Henry Kissinger: We Can Do Anything We Want!
by Victor Thorn

“The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer.”
Henry Kissinger

With the appointment of Henry Kissinger as chairman of the “Independent” 9-11 Investigative Commission, those who front the New World Order have officially told the American people that they can do anything they want to without any retribution or backlash. Oh sure, the Internet was buzzing with activity for a few days after this appointment and a few editorialists are writing columns, but in essence, this is just another example of their utter lack of regard for us. And what are we doing? Nothing. We’re still sitting around watching Big Brother stomp his mighty boots all around us while the War Machine gets ready to indulge its bloodthirsty appetite yet again.

Mike Pope wrote in The Tallahassee Democrat, “Henry Kissinger should be tried for crimes against humanity, not put in charge of a commission to investigate the September 11, 2002 tragedy.”

He continues, “Kissinger is notorious around the world for his direct role in orchestrating some of the bloodiest interventions carried out by Washington over the past five decades. He has ordered and sanctioned the destruction of civilian populations, the assassination of inconvenient politicians, and the kidnapping and disappearance of soldiers, journalists and clerics. That he has eluded punishment for his actions is a testament to how the crimes of the rich and well-connected seldom receive the full application of justice.”

And now George W. Bush and his handlers have shown the entire world that we will not only harbor this depraved madman, but we also condone his actions by putting him in charge of this investigation. When added with the atrocities that will result from the Homeland Security Act, we’ve all but surrendered any fight that we had left as a people.

WHY? When are we going to start fighting back? How much further do they have to push us until we’re completely defenseless lackies with no hope for future rights? Kissinger is the final slap in our faces, the last indignity. Can’t you see what message they’re DIRECTLY sending to us? WE CAN DO ANYTHING WE WANT TO, AND WHO’S GOING TO STOP US? When the news of Kissinger’s appointment broke and they saw our computers buzzing with indignation, the Controllers must have been laughing with glee. And why shouldn’t they? Through our inaction, we’ve essentially given them carte blanche to do anything that they want to. In their position, would any of us act differently? Probably (because we actually have a conscience and regard for our fellow man), but that’s beside the point.

What I’m trying to hammer home to you is the following: If we continue doing what we’re currently doing – writing articles and sending them around the Internet without doing anything else, nothing in the world will get any better. In fact, things will only get worse because the status quo will prevail. What we need to do is become organized like they are. The Controllers hold conferences in Geneva, Washington, D.C., New York City and Vienna. They pool their resources and plot out future courses of action. Then they implement their plans. And what do we do? We continue to remain fractured, apart from each other, and unorganized. Why? What are we afraid of? What do we have to lose? The answer is that we don’t have anything to lose because what we do have they’re slowing taking away from us!

Don’t you get it? The entire complexion of the world is changing right before our very eyes, but it’s for THEIR BENEFIT, not ours. And how do we react? We don’t! We still do nothing. Why? Every single person reading this article should go to our WING page (World Independent News Group – http://www.victorthorn.com/babel/wing.htm) and start contacting every other person and group and let them know that ORGANIZATION AND ACTION are our only alternatives. Then they need to tell every friend, colleague, family member, neighbor, and person on their e-mail list to log onto the WING page and start finding out the truth for themselves. We have links to over 100 of the absolutely best sites existing in the world today. But we need to tell the people running these sites that information isn’t enough. We need to follow-up and show that we have strength in numbers, too. If we all come together and let our voices be heard in unison, the powers-that-be will realize that we’re not going to simply lie down and let them steamroll over us.

Why shouldn’t we do this? Why shouldn’t we organize a massive rally that cannot be ignored? There are no good reasons not to. Don’t we care about our rights, our Constitution, and our freedom? If we do, then we should start acting like it! Freedom isn’t simply a notion; it’s an ACT – the ACT OF FREEDOM. Or, as a plaque on the Korean

U.S. interceptor missile test over Pacific fails

Wednesday, December 11, 2002 Posted: 11:06 AM EST (1606 GMT)

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, California (CNN) -- The U.S. military's project to develop a long-range missile capable of finding and knocking out another missile in midair suffered a setback Wednesday.

The Pentagon said a failure of a booster rocket prevented an intercepting warhead from reaching its target during testing with a long-range ballistic missile over the Pacific Ocean.

The Missile Defense Agency said in a statement that it was not able to complete the test because the kill vehicle interceptor and booster rocket failed to separate, preventing the interceptor -- called the exo-atmospheric kill vehicle -- from engaging the target warhead in space.

The modified Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile was launched (at 3:26 a.m. EST) from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

About 20 minutes later and 4,800 miles away, a missile carrying an interceptor was launched from the Ronald Reagan Missile Test Facility in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

Booster has failed before

The statement said the interceptor's booster rocket, which also failed during a previous test, was an incidental part of the test and its failure prevented the military from testing the equipment in question.

A Pentagon spokeswoman said the systems under scrutiny did not indicate problems. The official also said an operational booster rocket is under development and will begin testing next spring.

The flight test, the eighth in the series, would have been the first for a development radar and an airborne laser prototype. Five of the tests have successfully "killed" their targets, and three have failed.

Testing of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense system began in October 1999.

The intercept was to have been the first involving a nighttime launch of an interceptor missile. It was intended to destroy the "enemy" missile at a point some 140 miles above the central Pacific.

Chinese general told threat against U.S.
unacceptable
By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

The White House told a visiting Chinese general yesterday that
comments he made in 1995 suggesting China would use nuclear
weapons against Los Angeles were unacceptable.

The discussion came during a meeting between Chinese Lt. Gen. Xiong
Guankai, deputy chief of staff for intelligence, and White House
National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. The meeting was part of
the appeal by the Bush administration to warn China against making
further nuclear threats and to make clear to Gen. Xiong that China
should not miscalculate in thinking it could win an arms race with
Taiwan, or that it could coerce the island into reunification. An
additional message for the general was that Chinese help in getting
North Korea to dismantle its nuclear program is important to U.S.-
Chinese relations.

Gen. Xiong is in Washington with a delegation of Chinese officials who
met Monday at the Pentagon with defense officials as part of a strategic
dialogue that had been put on hold after last year's aerial collision
between a Chinese jet and U.S. EP- 3E spy plane.

Miss Rice chose to meet with Gen. Xiong to underscore our view of
international security and particularly the issue of Taiwan, a senior
administration official said of the meeting. Other administration
officials said plans for the meeting sparked a dispute among officials on
the National Security Council staff who opposed the meeting because it
would be viewed as rewarding a foreign general who threatened to
attack the United States.

Gen. Xiong told former defense official Charles Freeman in 1995 that
the United States would not come to Taiwan's defense in any conflict
with China because it cared more about Los Angeles than Taipei, the
Taiwanese capital. The remark was reported to the White House at the
time as a veiled threat to use nuclear weapons against the United States

Miss Rice and two aides met with Gen. Xiong and three other Chinese
military officials in her office at the White House West Wing. She
stressed that the United States does not support Taiwan independence
but that we have the means and will to meet our commitments to
Taipei, the senior official said.

Miss Rice also told Gen. Xiong that the administration is committed to
its obligations under the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act, which calls for the
United States to meet Taiwan's defensive needs. The Bush
administration announced last year it was selling guided missile
destroyers and submarines to Taiwan to bolster its forces against
China's military buildup, especially of short-range missiles.

Miss Rice also said that any differences must be resolved peacefully
and without resort to force or coercion, the official said. She said
there is no justification for the continued buildup of Chinese missiles
along the Taiwan Strait, the official said, noting that it is the Chinese
buildup of missiles and other forces that increases tensions in the
region. And we believe that enhancing peace and stability in the
region should be begun with the end, and then the reversal of this
buildup, the official said.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin suggested to President Bush in
Crawford, Texas, in October that China would be willing to reduce the
missile deployments opposite Taiwan if the United States curbed arms
sales to Taiwan. U.S. officials said the offer was an informal suggestion
rather than a serious proposal.

Smallpox Vaccine Test Results from Baylor College of Medicine

Foreword by

Leonard G. Horowitz, D.M.D., M.A., M.P.H.

The following article by Jon Rappoport is the first I?ve seen
reporting the harmful and possibly devastating effects of the
Bush administration?s rapidly advancing smallpox vaccination
program. These results were previously predicted as expected
outcomes by this author and many, many others.

I interject this foreword to alert you to the additional support
cited below for the thesis raised earlier that the smallpox
vaccination program is part of a genocidal agenda facilitated by
the Bush administration?s ?War on Terrorism? and their current
efforts to ?immunize? the population against smallpox and later
anthrax. In reality, this policy aims to induce chronic illness,
additional healthcare expenditures (including pharmaceutical
sales) and, ultimately, population reduction in America. Given
the information below, and far more published elsewhere, this is
certainly the anticipated outcome of this ?preventative plan?
for homeland insecurity. The ?additional support,? I refer to,
comes from identifying Baylor University and their College of
Medicine as the site of this initial study.

The following information was compiled for the book Healing
Codes for the Biological Apocalypse (Tetrahedron Publishing
Group, 1999; www.tetrahedron.org; 1-888-508-4787) by this author
along with Dr. Joseph Puleo. Based on reputable sources, Past
President George H. W. Bush?s Secretary of State, James Baker
III (Florida vote scam overseer for the current president), was
reported to have owned part of the vaccine manufacturing company
against whom ailing Gulf War veterans had filed a lawsuit.
Moreover, Mr. Bush is said to have been a major shareholder in
that company?Tanox Biosystems of Houston.

It is also well known that this past president, father to the
current president, has served in an official capacity at Baylor
University for some time. Not long before becoming CIA director,
certain intelligence regarding Tanox?s collaborative studies
with Baylor College of Medicine concerning Mycoplasma infections
and related vaccinations was available to the elder Bush.

Tanox was also closely linked to Dr. Shyh-Ching Lo, who, under
employment by The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, isolated
and patented a ?Pathogenic Mycoplasma? originally taken from an
AIDS patient, that somehow contaminated many of the vaccines
given to allied military personnel traveling to the Middle East
in lieu of ?Operation Desert Storm.? Only the French soldiers
who did not receive the American made vaccines did not develop
GWS during this earlier war with Iraq.

Further, what would seem inconceivable without seeing the
documents reprinted in Healing Codes for the Biological
Apocalypse, Tanox and Baylor College of Medicine first tested
their Mycoplasma-infected vaccines on Huntsville, TX prisoners.
As a result, the prisoners, and others in the community with
whom the prisoners made contact, developed GWS long before the
Gulf War. Thus, GWS could have been, and probably was, predicted
and effected.

Furthermore, evidence compiled by lawyers for the class of
people sickened by Mycoplasma incognitas and related illnesses,
from Huntsville, Texas, revealed more astonishing documents.
These, also published in Healing Codes for the Biological
Apocalypse, showed that Baylor College of Medicine investigators
collaborated on studies of vaccinated Huntsville prison inmates
beginning in 1968. Mycoplasma inoculations, as well as
Mycoplasma vaccination studies, were listed as having begun in
1970 under U.S. Army contracts. Incredibly, Baylor?s contract
literally raised the specter of ?ethnic cleansing? or racial
genocide as it proved cervical cancer studies comparing
Christian versus Muslim women, as well as Jewish versus Black
women, were in progress.

Thus, to have this Bush administration authorized smallpox
vaccine study be conducted at Baylor, where the senior Bush has
served in an official capacity, with imput from the Tanox-linked
College of Medicine is chilling. This is especially so
considering the fact that today, unlike the early 1970s when the
early Mycoplasma studies began, Mycoplasma is now considered
among the most common vaccine contaminants. It is also currently
linked to the recent onset of pandemic Chronic Fatigue Immune
Dysfunction Syndrome and many other illnesses, including certain
expressions of HIV/AIDS.

In conclusion, as I wrote elsewhere and said often, if you
see ?first responders? coming to inoculate you with ?cow pus,?
which is virtually what the smallpox vaccination is in its
purest unadulterated form, run away and hide.

Facing the likelihood that the diocese would be indicted Friday on multiple counts of violating New Hampshire's child endangerment statute, Bishop John B. Criminal Investigation - Church impedes state probe into abuse, Reilly says By Walter V. Robinson and Sacha Pfeiffer, Globe Staff, 12/11/02 "Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly said last night that the Archdiocese of Boston has been using ''every tool and maneuver'' to impede a criminal investigation by his office that he said has documented an ''elaborate and decades-long'' scheme by the church to cover up crimes of sexual abuse by priests. Reilly declined to say how his office has responded to the archdiocesan tactics. But law enforcement officials, who declined to be identified, said Reilly's investigators have had to use grand jury subpoenas to get at church documents - despite public pledges by church officials to cooperate with the attorney general's office. Asked in an interview whether Cardinal Bernard F. Law has received a subpoena to testify before a grand jury, Reilly said: "No comment.'' Reilly said the church has given the public a false impression that it is cooperating with prosecutors. Ex-priest preyed on teen boys, court told 5 victims relate abuse to boost bid for long sentence
By Matt O'Connor "Testimony revealed for the first time that the Chicago archdiocese learned of McCaffrey's sexual misconduct as early as 1980 but returned him to parish duties after he had undergone in-patient treatment. The archdiocese has previously said its records indicated it first learned of the allegations of sexual wrongdoing against McCaffrey in 1987. He was removed from parish duties in 1991 due to reforms instituted by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. McCaffrey...admitted he resumed molesting underage boys within months of his release from the sexual-addiction treatment center in 1980. He said he had entered the center at the direction of the archdiocese. McCaffrey admitted molesting at least 12 to 14 boys during hisyears as a priest, but under cross-examination by Assistant U.S. Atty. T. Markus Funk, he acknowledged he really didn't know how many he victimized because there were so many." http://www.chicagotribune.com/

Infants Now Murdered As Often As Teens Actual Rate May Be Higher, Experts Say By Laura Sessions Stepp, Washington Post Staff Writer 12/10/02 "The homicide rate for U.S. infants is now virtually equal to the murder rate for teenagers, according to a new analysis of government data that revealed a

Iraq accuses US of seeking to test hi-tech weaponry
Xinhuanet 2002-12-10 06:32:51
CAIRO, Dec. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A visiting Iraqi official on Tuesday accused the United States of seeking to test its hi-tech weaponry in a war on his country. "The United States does not want to see UN arms inspectors succeed, therefore, it could attack Iraq and test new weapons, even though Iraq honors its commitments," Hassan Abdul Moneem al-Khattab, president of the Iraqi planning committee, told reporters. "Iraq is in favour of any solution which keeps the region free from any war," said al-Khattab, who made a stopover here on his way to Morocco.

Israel targets civilians and UN personnel with impunity

By Jean Shaoul
12 December 2002

Israel has unleashed a wave of attacks in densely populated areas in the West Bank and
Gaza, killing and wounding Palestinian civilians and United Nations personnel.

As far as Ariel Sharon’s government is concerned, civilians and UN personnel are no
longer
simply “collateral damage” but legitimate targets. But the world’s leaders have stood
by and
simply wrung their hands as Sharon has intensified his war of terror.

The Israeli army has stepped up its raids into the impoverished and squalid Gaza strip
refugee camps in recent months in an effort to kill militants it believes are leaders
of anti-
Israel resistance. The attacks are becoming an almost daily occurrence.

On December 8, Israeli forces demolished a two-story Palestinian house near the Jewish
settlement of Netzarim in Gaza.

On December 4, Israeli security forces carried out a “targeted assassination”.
Helicopter
gunships fired three missiles in Gaza City, killing Mustafa Saba, whom Israel claimed
was
responsible for the deaths of seven Israeli soldiers earlier in the year.

The following day, Israeli armed forces opened fire on Palestinians near the Zionist
settlement of Rafiah Yam, killing a 40-year-old woman, Nahla Aqel, and injuring her
four-
year-old son and fourteen-year-old daughter, both of whom are believed to be in a very
critical condition. Her seven-year-old son was also wounded. A second woman was shot in
the head. Eyewitnesses said they were walking in the middle of the street.

Later that night, during Eid el-Fitr, the celebrations to mark the end of the fast of
Ramadan,
Israeli troops used 25 tanks, armoured personnel carriers and helicopters gunships in a
pre-dawn raid on the Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, killing 10 people,
including two
employees of a UN humanitarian agency.

The missiles destroyed the home of Aiman Shasniyah, the target of the attack, but he
escaped unharmed. The Israeli authorities claimed that most of the victims were
fighters,
but Hamas, the militant Palestinian group, denied this, saying that only two of the
victims
were members of its military wing, and four were supporters.

Yasser Arafat, the Palestinian leader, said, “It is a new massacre. What happened is a
continuation of the massacres against the Palestinian people.”

Israel justified the carnage with the claim that five of the dead were members of the
militant group Hamas. “We encountered a lot of resistance and the forces fired at armed
gunmen,” said Brigadier Yisrael Ziv, commander of security forces in Gaza.

Palestinian sources flatly contradicted the Brigadier’s claim, saying that at least
seven of the
nine killed were civilians. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) said
that
the victims included two of its own personnel—a teacher and school attendant. The
school
teacher, 32-year- old Ahlam Riziq Kandil, was killed in her home. Osama Hassan Tahrawi,
the 31-year-old school attendant, was killed along with six friends and relatives when
a
rocket fired from a helicopter hit him as he stood in his backyard.

This brings to five the number of UN staff killed this year and three in as many
weeks. On
November 22, an Israeli soldier shot 54-year-old Iain Hook in the back from a rooftop
some
25 metres away, using a telescopic sight. Hook, a British UN official, was leading a UN
project to rebuild the Jenin refugee camp, parts of which were destroyed last April by
the
Israeli army. Security forces then prevented an ambulance reaching the compound for 25
minutes. As a result, Hook bled to death before the ambulance reached the hospital.

At first, the Israelis tried to say that he had been shot outside the compound while
standing
among Palestinians. When that story became untenable, they changed their line and said
that they had mistaken him for one of the Palestinian gunmen. The UN dismissed their
claim, saying that it was “totally incredible” since its staff had said that there
were no
gunmen in the area and if there had been, some of the Palestinian gunmen who were
supposedly around him would also have been shot. Indeed, there was no evidence of any
gun battle before Hook’s death.

The incident points to Israel’s barely concealed stand that since the UN collaborates
with
Palestinians, it has now become a legitimate target.

Western reaction

Criticism from Western leaders has been muted. They confined their remarks to
perfunctory noises about the loss of life, but did not demand that any action be taken
against such flagrant breaches of international law. Javier Solana, the European Union
commissioner for foreign affairs, said that an operation in such a densely populated
area
could “only lead to the

What is happening ?

During the NATO military operations in Serbia in 1998 witnesses
reported weird phenomenon. Weather during the last and the worst
bombing campaign around the Serbia was very strange. Huge black
clouds materialised out of the blue sky, and stayed there until the
end of the campaign which is couple of weeks. There was no rain
falling from the clouds. What did fall on Belgrade was hailstone the
size of eggs. You can still see the marks it left on houses. During
that time witnesses describe strange lighting in the sky that
lasted for hours that didnt look like anything anybody saw before.
The thunders that accompanied the strange lightning were equally
strange. They were hundreds of times stronger than any thunders
anybody remembers. They were so loud that they were louder then the
sound of bomb explosions. Couple of days before the capitulation of
Serbian army was signed a very strong earthquake stroke Belgrade.

The weather cleared very soon after the bombing campaign was over.

Since then the climate in Serbia has changed considerably. Serbia
experienced one of the worst draughts in its history. For last two
years it looked as if the rain and snow were missing Serbia on
purpose. This was before everywhere else around Serbia the climate is
still the same as it ever was. So we can not talk about the global
warming or natural climatic changes because the neighbouring
countries to the west, east, north or south that are not affected.
Last year Serbia had 8 months without a drop of rain. This continues
even as we speak as Serbia didnt get any snow this year. Even worse
the temperature at the moment is 19 degrees Celsius.

Last week scientists in Serbia released the report which states that
the electromagnetic field over Serbia is punctured. The hole is
almost the size of Serbia. it starts at the border between Kosovo and
Albania in the south and ends near Yugoslav Hungarian border in the
north. The reason for conducting the measuring was the strange
behaviour of the cloud masses that twice a year come to Balkans from
Libya. Normally they would unload their cargo of water over Balkans.
In last two years however they would hit the southern border of
Kosovo, and as the river flaws around the island in its current the
cloud masses split and completely miss the Serbian territory leaving
an empty hole visible in the satellite pictures. The first time the
scientists noticed this phenomenon was at the December 28. 2000. The
cloud masses divided into a stronger eastern and weaker western
stream and went around the Serbian territory. The same happened on
December 31 when the rain that would usually fall in Serbia went east
and caused over 200 ml of rain per square meter in the territories
east of Kosovo. All of this is about to cause the possibly the worst
draught ever to hit Serbia and potentially a famine as the crops
would be destroyed if rain or snow doesnt fall in Serbia soon.

Could somebody help me find out if there was anything unusual
happening in the electromagnetic world during the final days of
bombing of Serbia which is summer 1999. Also does anybody have any
indication that anything unusual happened with earth electromagnetic
field on 28.12.2000. or 31.12.2000.

Yours
Goran Pavlovic

Whom do you pin the medal on?
By Fawaz Turki
Published on 12 December 2002

Consider the tomahawk, that ax-like weapon with a piece of bone or metal inserted at
the
top,
that was used by Native Americans to fight, albeit futilely, early American settlers
who
encroached on their ancestral land, their water resources, and their food supplies in
the
prairies of the Old West. Then consider the Tomahawk, a deadly missile that, in
February
1991, hit an air-raid shelter in Baghdad, killing hundreds of civilians.

For many centuries, soldiers went to war to fight each other one on one, on neutral
ground,
celebrating the idea of close combat with an enemy that matched them in armor. Bravery
was the measure of man, and death in battle in pursuit of a cause was seen as a noble
end
to a life. Many cultures, including that of classical Arabs, that had disdained, for
example,
use of the bow and arrow as a weapon used in warfare, echoed the Homeric hero.

“My way,” we read in the Iliad, “is not to fight my battles far away from my enemies.”

Long-range killing is a comparatively recent phenomenon in human history. To enlist
technology in the service of the application of force against a perceived enemy, often
with
tragic consequences, is to enlist it as a weapon of mass destruction. Combatants in
World
War II, and American B 52s in Vietnam, dropped massive tonnage after massive tonnage of
bombs, from great heights, often at night, on areas where women and children slept.

This kind of warfare conduces inevitably to moral callousness in society. So consider
in that
regard when, last Sept. 26, Israelis had one of their American-made Apache helicopters
(another appropriation from Native Americans) hovering high above Gaza in pursuit of a
yellow Mercedes that they had already marked with a “laser stain.” Around noon that
day,
the gunship fired two 100-pound Hell-fire anti-tank missiles (great name, no?) at the
car,
aiming to kill one of its occupants, Muhammed Deif, a Hamas militant, but ended up
instead
killing two of the passengers and injuring 43 passersby, including 15 school children,
some
seriously. Deif, though bloodied, escaped.

Two months earlier, going after another Hamas official, Salah Shehadeh, yet another
Apache gunship, again hovering high in the sky, above that same strip of misery in
occupied
Palestine, dropped a one-ton bomb on an even more crowded neighborhood, in the dark of
night, killing Shehadeh, yes, but also 16 men, women and children, virtually all of
them as
they lay asleep in their beds.

As international castigation of Israel poured forth, the debate among its military
planners,
according to reports in the Israeli media, was not about the moral callousness of
these acts
but over whether the missiles aimed at Deif were sufficiently large and lethal, and if
not,
why not.

A moral abyss beckons a society that has absorbed, as if by a process of osmosis, that
kind
of application of force in pursuit of political goals.

Or in pursuit of material gains.

Take the issue of why the US — a country whose arsenal of weapons evolves rapidly, and
its deadliness exponentially, between one war and the next — is going to invade Iraq.

Till quite recently, the public debate was dominated by how America’s chief interest in
going to war against Iraq was to save the world from Saddam’s weapons of mass
destruction and, perhaps as a dividend, to bring “regime change” to the country, with
the
end result of rewarding it with the blessings of Western democracy, John Lockian
liberalism
and economic prosperity.

Does that profession of intent pass the smell test?

Except for those lost souls demonstrating in their European capitals, and in Lafayette
Park in
Washington, holding up slogans like “L’argent pour l’ecole, pas pour la guerre du
petrole,”
and “No blood for oil profits,” few people thought to use the O-word.

In recent days, commentators have taken up the issue in the mainstream press, namely
whether or not the US has really manufactured this whole crisis with Iraq in order to
grab
its oil and flood the market with it, thereby bringing a drop in prices, and providing
an
opportunity for American oil companies to get in line to sign contracts with a country
that
has 11 percent of the world’s reserves.

Some strategists, and not just those writing in the pages of Nation magazine, have even
argued that there is a more elaborate plan afoot: If Iraq, which is now producing a
fraction
of its capacity, were to pump oil in a post-Saddam era at a rate to match its
reserves, this
could end Saudi Arabia’s domination of world oil markets. (Saudi Arabia has 25 percent
of
the world’s proven reserves, the largest anywhere.)

Why would America, you ask, concoct such a diabolical plan?

Well, because it could. And at little cost.

When an exceedingly sophisticated nation like the

Christian fundamentalists and American hegemony
By Dr. Abdul Qader Tash
Published on 12 December 2002

The American writer Grace Halsell did not exaggerate when she said that Christian
Zionists
in
Washington were more dangerous than the Zionist lobby. In 1989, Muhammad Sammak
translated Halsell’s book “Prophecy and Politics” into Arabic. The book discussed the
dangers posed by militant Christian fundamentalists to the Arab world but Arab policy-
makers did not pay much attention to her warnings.

Though a few Arab writers have written about the dangerous course taken by religious
fundamentalists in the US, serious efforts have yet to be made to warn the Muslim and
Arab public about the increasing influence of the anti-Muslim religious fundamentalist
lobby
in the United States.

It may not be a matter of pure accident that the Christian fundamentalists in
Switzerland
have established a new organization to elicit public support for Israel. The
organization’s
activities include encouraging Israel to continue with its expansionist policies. The
organization recently issued a statement, which was endorsed by several Christian
priests,
to justify every Israeli act including the inhuman repression of Palestinians.

A founding leader of the Swiss organization, who is also a member of the country’s
Parliament, said Israeli acts in the Palestine were only the execution of God’s will
and that
the whole of the Palestine should be “returned to Israel.” The best solution to the
issue,
according to him, would be to expel all the Palestinians from Palestine and send them
to
Jordan, Iraq or Egypt where they could establish an independent state.

The menacing call to drive out the Palestinians has been timed to coincide with US
preparations to attack Iraq. The Christian fundamentalist leader, Pat Robertson,
announced
at a recent meeting that Israel had a legitimate right to take full control of
Jerusalem and its
neighborhoods. He added that Palestinians, who had no right over the Promised Land,
should return to where they came from.

There are strong reasons to believe that Christian Zionists, including Robertson, aim
to
goad the US into launching a new crusade against Islam —- beginning with the occupation
of Baghdad. The fundamentalist leaders also vie with each other in attacking Islamic
traditions and values. They have also unleashed a malicious campaign to vilify the
Prophet,
peace be upon him, in the media across the United States and beyond its borders.

An unholy alliance between Christian Zionists and a group called neo-conservatives in
key
positions in the American administration has lately emerged. The alliance aims not
only at
supporting Israel as it fulfills its territorial ambitions but also at increasing the
military might
of the US in order to guarantee US domination of the world.

An American senator spelled out his nation’s ambition to control the world as long ago
as
1898 when he said Americans were a race destined to defeat all other people. He urged
his
compatriots to dominate new markets and countries if the situation demanded it.
Impotent
civilizations and incompetent races should disappear under the feet of the lofty
civilization
built by the American people, he added.

The Americans still have the same mindset. They believe in the principle of survival
of the
strongest and the sovereignty of a superior race.
