Thanks Bill, thats much better than I've been able to achieve with dt. I
clearly need to spend time learning how to use the highlight
reconstruction module!
Before posting the inevitable Lightroom comparison, let me say that I
really don't like using that software. I have a long list of

At risk of complicating this discussion, I processed an over-exposed RAW
file in darktable and Lightroom. In both cases, I pulled the exposure
back by 2ev. No other tweaks. The results are quite different, and seem
to show that dt is losing some of the high intensity pixels.

The histograms are quite different, even allowing for log vs linear on

I've seen similar results to Chris. One of the (few) things that I've
found Lightroom does better than darktable is highlight recovery.
I have noticed that the darktable histogram doesn't seem to show content
at the far right hand side that does show in the Lightroom histogram.

Well, that's strange. I did as you suggest: removed an image and then
reimported it. And, yes, the edits duly appeared. Then I tried another
image, but before removing it, I noticed that the edits were there. And
checked some other imported folders, all the edits appear.

Bill, thanks for letting us try your noise profiles. I did some quick
tests, and they seem to work very well, particularly for very noisy images.

I had a similar problem. Everything looked good on my local devices, but

Of course, it's left click that used to define control points for the
'path' shape. And the pen doesn't do left click. It does work with the
brush, circle and ellipse shapes, although I don't see any way to alter
sizes without a keyboard or mouse wheel.

I have a Microsoft Surface pen that no longer pairs properly. But it
does still work as a pointing device, and the right-click button opens
folders, etc., as I would expect. However, when I try to use the pen to
define a drawn mask, right-click doesn't define control points. I'm
wondering if

Hi Kofa,
Thanks for mentioning the base curve blending feature in your reply to

way to compress overall contrast.
In case anyone else is puzzled, as I was, base curve blending isn't

In addition to Robert's suggestions, you might also check settings in
the 'framing' module, found under 'more modules' in the develop section.
