If you've got a new server going in, I'd suggest copying the live database
over to the new server and try upgrading the databases using sql, then test
it I guess. If it all works, go with it. :)

i think imapd has not yet the state for production purposes and should
stated that with a correct version (e.g. beta but not final) (lmtp pop3
smtp does work perfectly so far)

Doesn't mysqldump lock the table though? So any new inbound (insert) email
will have to wait until the lock is free - not really a problem as long as
the mta queues it.

is announced for mysql5 :D
if a database goes down, exim recognizes this and temporaly refuses any
mails which causing foreign mta to address the other mta...
