As an additional remark: Mainly/Only GTK 2.0 applications seem to be
affected. Although the font appearance in KDE also has changed, the
quality is ok (maybe even a little bit better).
But for most GTK apps, most prominent example is firefox, the fonts are
significanly worse.

If stopping mpt-statusd fails, uninstalling is not possible anymore
