Bug#483424: [Juliusz Chroboczek] EXA and MigrationHeuristic
Package: xserver-xorg Version: 1:7.3+10 Forwarding this to bugs@, just to make sure Julien is sufficiently annoyed to do something about it. Juliusz ---BeginMessage--- Dear all, After my recent adventures with Radeon, XAA and EXA, I've come to the conclusion that setting MigrationHeuristic to greedy drastically helps performance of Firefox redraws on both Radeon and i965GM hardware. By drastically, I mean it -- a redraw of a full-screen Firefox goes from 3 to 5 seconds (!) down to a fraction of a second. Now I haven't read the sources of Firefox (let him who has cast me the first stone), but I believe that Firefox performs client-side backing store using absolutely humonguous pixmaps. While we may argue that what Firefox does is stupid, I think we should try to support this kind of usage. Isn't the default value of MigrationHeuristic incorrect ? Should we switch to greedy as default ? (Julien tells me that he believes that Ubuntu have already made the switch.) Bug#482717: Latest gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg breaks gnome
Is this on a PPC without altivec? Could you build gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg with debugging symbols and get a backtrace from gst-inspect-0.10 --gst-disable-registry-fork I think this is a ffmpeg bug but let's get a backtrace first :) Hello, It is indeed on PPC G3, hence without altivec. I'm afraid I don't have enough time to take care of rebuilding the whole stuff. Up to now, I was using ffmpeg from debian-multimedia.org but I tried the one from the debian archive and I get the same result. I'm not sure it is a ffmpeg bug since the problem mentions the registry. Regards, -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You could check for duplicates before filing new bugs... :-) Oops, sorry: I did check for some of them, but this escaped from jail ;) Also several of your bug reports concern uncontroversial changes and/or typo/formatting fixes. Maybe you could go one step further and prepare a patch for those? Mh, well, I don't have much free time, so I cannot guarantee anything (number of patches, delivery dates or so), but I'll try to do some of them. I'm sure someone else could help in fix this bug and have this fundamental document in the good shape it deserves. If you do, please prepare the patch against what's in SVN (see Vcs-Svn field in apt-cache showsrc developers-reference). Also, the project page on sourceforge now is the official one, It has always been the official one, but we are explicitly refering to the page of the GNUstep port because that is where we took the source from. That page points to the official page, so I think it's fair. Do you have any connection with the upstream developers, BTW? The main author is not interested in GNUstep, IIRC, and the GNUstep porter did not reply to any of my messages... following lines regarding the VCS added to debian/control: No, these fields are not for the upstream source but for the VCS where the package is mainained in Debian. Bug#483438: dhcpd: no mechanism to use appropriate reverse zone
Package: dhcp3-server Version: 3.1.1-1 Severity: normal File: dhcpd Hi, I have a /24 split at two sites with reverse DNS appropriate partitioned so that half (e.g. 192.168.7.0/25 and 192.168.7.128/25 -- used for illustration btw not the actual IP addresses) is in zone: 0-25.7.168.192.in-addr.arpa. and the other is in: 128-25.7.168.192.in-addr.arpa. There appear no way to have the DHCP daemon update the correct reverse zone. It will always try to update 7.168.192.in-addr.arpa. Unfortunately setting ddns-rev-domainname does not help as that only put a suffix on the reversed IP address. Nor does attempting to turn the option into an evaluation expression like: ddns-rev-domainname concat(binary-to-ascii(10, 8, ., suffix(leased-address, 1)), 0-25.7.168.192.in-addr.arpa.); Since DHCP expects either a parameter or declaration. Bug#483216: sqlite3: sqlite fails to update dbs used from a CIFS mount

I dont know if this ia bug, or an inherent protocol limitation. I agree that this is one possible interpretation of the problem, but SQLite does *not* exhibit the same problem when it is run on Windows clients using data directories that are network mapped via CIFS from the same samba server. Instead, it is able to read and write the testdb without a problem. So either the sqlite build for Windows doesn't internally depend on those filesystem semantics, or there's a way to work around them on Windows. Maybe it's possible for SQLite in debian (and other unices) to use the same workaround if it detects that it's working on CIFS? Or maybe this is a bug in cifs.mount? Or maybe a bug in the kernel's cifs.ko? Or in samba itself somehow? I'd be happy to get pointed in the right direction about where to get started fixing this. (i'd be even happier to be able to ditch CIFS, but that's not politically feasible) This bug is pretty serious because it's likely to strand users with CIFS-exported home directories once Firefox 3 replaces Firefox 2. It's already causing breakages in CIFS-homedir environments under Ubuntu 8.04, and in debian with other apps that use SQLite (e.g. f-spot, django, etc). Bug#417888: batik: new upstream version
Hello, Adriaan Peeters wrote: Adriaan Peeters wrote: Uptream released the stable version of 1.7, how is work progressing on the packaging of this? I plan to have a look at that reasonably soon. I expect a lot of work (from what I understood, it should be able to move to main) to get it in a good shape. Getting batik in main is indeed what I would like since I will be able to move some rdepends to main as well when 1.7 hits unstable. I had a look, and things are not as simple as it seems - the 1.7 version does not provide at all the same external functions as before, and still depends on some of sun.com classes, which is bad... This is a known 'bug'[1] in SQLite3. There is a workaround, quoting: You can work around the problem by compiling with -DSQLITE_DISABLE_DIRSYNC=1. But the webpage also states: SQLite appears to be doing the right thing here. The bug appears to be OpenWRT-Linux, not in SQLite. Using the mentioned workaround is very risky: That macro disables the directory syncing logic. But then if you lose power at exactly the wrong moment and your rollback journal vanishes (or gets moved to /lost+found) and your database is corrupted - don't complain. I was bitten by the bug described at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.git/83101 - serves me right for trying to get things done using a prerelease version of git. Anyway, please take a look at http://home.uchicago.edu/~jrnieder/gpm.git for-nico once you get a chance. The 'upstream' corresponds to gpm-1-stable from http://unix.schottelius.org/git/gpm. Bug#482140: must be /etc/sgml
Hi. I'm sending my /var/lib/dpkg/info/docbook-xml.postinst The line that's failing is the one after the initial for loop: update-catalog --add --super /etc/sgml/docbook-xml.cat In my /etc/sgml/catalog I already have a line with /etc/sgml/docbook-xml.cat and it's also in /etc/sgml/catalog.old I'm attaching a tarball of /etc/sgml (before playing with the scripts) But the .prerm script looks like it should have removed the docbook-xml.cat entry. In fact it does if I run it with upgrade as an argument In my /var/log/dpkg.log it looks like docbook-xml 4.4-5 was installed, and afterwards and upgrade to 4.5-5 was attempted but it was left half-configured So my only guess is that maybe the prerm script in docbook-xml 4.4-5 did not run update-catalog --quiet --remove --super /etc/sgml/docbook-xml.cat for some reason ? Maybe the bug is in etch, not lenny, but it can be worked around in lenny ? I can't seem to understand anything more, so I'm removing and installing the package to continue the instalation. Hope this helps somehow... sgml.tgz Description: application/compressed-tar docbook-xml.postinst Description: Binary data

Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Package name: python-cluster Version : 1.1.1b3 Upstream Author : Michel Albert exhuma at users.sourceforge.net * URL : http://python-cluster.sourceforge.net/ * License : LGPL Description : allows grouping a list of arbitrary objects into related groups (clusters) python-cluster is a simple package that allows to create several groups (clusters) of objects from a list. It's meant to be flexible and able to cluster any object. To ensure this kind of flexibility, you need not only to supply the list of objects, but also a function that calculates the similarity between two of those objects. For simple datatypes, like integers, this can be as simple as a subtraction, but more complex calculations are possible. Right now, it is possible to generate the clusters using a hierarchical clustering and the popular K-Means algorithm. If the directory /usr/share/zoneinfo does not exist, ents is set to -1, but line 314 still attempts to free it, causing the problem. tzdata does not appear to be a requirement for php5, so there is no guarantee that this directory would exist. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.12.2 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages php5-cli depends on: ii libbz2-1.0 1.0.5-0.1 high-quality block-sorting file co ii libc6 2.7-11GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcomerr2 1.40.8-2 common error description library ii libdb4.6 4.6.21-8 Berkeley v4.6 Database Libraries [ ii libkrb53 1.6.dfsg.3-2 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libmagic1 4.17-5etch3 File type determination library us ii libncurses55.6+20080503-1Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libpcre3 7.6-2 Perl 5 Compatible Regular Expressi ii libssl0.9.80.9.8g-10 SSL shared libraries ii libxml22.6.32.dfsg-2 GNOME XML library ii mime-support 3.39-1MIME files 'mime.types' 'mailcap ii php5-common5.2.6-1 Common files for packages built fr ii ucf2.0020Update Configuration File: preserv ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-12 compression library - runtime php5-cli recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
