Hasn't been long, but haven't back yet - I do need to do a
separate upload for something else, and I'm pretty sure the
above will fix your problem. So, I'll do an upload with
that change - if the problem persists, please let me know.

Bug#473682: And another one...

2008-05-09 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi again,

Yesterday I only tested on amd64. Today, on an i386 machine I
discovered that openat64() is needed, too.

I attach the complete debdiff against -1.3 again, for clarity. This
obsoletes the previous patches I sent.

Bug#479791: 479791 - Last deleted mail of a folder still shown

2008-05-09 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi,

It does happen every time, and only for the last mail in a folder.

Contrary to what I had explained, it does not only happen in empty
folder. It does happen with all folders: the last deleted mail is still
shown, crossed out, even if some other messages are still present in the
folder.

Cheers,
Julien

Bug#408939: FYI, on iceweaseling old standard

2008-05-09 Thread Nicolas Mailhot
(07:59:29) nim-nim: btw pabs3, I've seen debian packaged old standard
(07:59:42) nim-nim: upstream has asked me to iceweasel it

(08:01:50) pabs3: looks like we haven't uploaded it into debian proper

(08:01:53) pabs3: whats the issue?
(08:03:06) pabs3: nim-nim: ^^
(08:03:17) nim-nim: pabs3: just that upstream apparently did manuaml
tweaking on fontforge output in proprietary tools
(08:03:39) pabs3: yay
(08:03:41) nim-nim: and thus feels a font rebuilt from source wouldn't
100% represent its design
(08:04:05) nim-nim: and does not want to re-test with every fontforge
release if the tweaking is still needed
(08:04:44) nim-nim: so the author asked me to rename the font if I
rebuilt it from source in Fedora
08:05
(08:05:17) nim-nim: and I put it on my backpile while thinking about a
good iceweasel name
(08:05:32) pabs3: ugh. can you send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
explaining the issue?
(08:05:39) nim-nim: or about good arguments to make upstream change his
mind
(08:06:05) nim-nim: pabs3: let me see if I have the original mail
somewhere
(08:06:27) nim-nim: I personnaly intend to go the iceweasel route when I

(08:06:47) pabs3: ttf-oldweasel :)
(08:07:21) nim-nim: pabs3: I was thinking about old standard iced
(08:07:29) nim-nim: or something like that
(08:07:38) nim-nim: but my naming skillz suck
(08:07:38) pabs3: this is one aspect of the OFL I really *do not* like
(08:07:57) pabs3: hmm
(08:08:39) pabs3: shall I ask on #debian-devel? bound to get a few ideas
from there
(08:09:17) nim-nim: pabs3: sure
(08:09:37) nim-nim: I didn't really tie this loose end so far
08:10
(08:10:07) nim-nim: and IMHO it's still worthwhile to check with the
author if he likes the iceweasel name
(08:10:26) nim-nim: maybe two distros asking for the same thing will
make him change his mind

Bug#480204: coreutils: man page of 'nice' hard to understand

Bernhard Marx [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Thank you for the suggestion, and especially for the proposed
replacement text. I've just made that change upstream.

Bug#480059: vorbis-tools vulnerable to CVE-2008-1686

2008-05-09 Thread Tomas Hoger
Hi Jamie!

I've noticed your USN-611-[123], which patch speex, vorbis-tools and
gstreamer plugins. However, I believe fix in libspeex/speex_header.c
should be sufficient to address this issue in all affected
applications, as they call speex_packet_to_header(). With patch
applied, it'll return NULL for malformed speex files and the mode check
in speexdec / ogg123 / ... is not reached at all. Or have I missed
anything?

skx, vorbis-tools do not embed whole speex library, only sample client
implementation code. Previous versions of speex required client to
perform part of the sanity checks (and many clients did not do that
properly), so the check was now moved directly to speex library.

we won't diverge on linux-libc-dev headers from upstream,
please take that upstream to lkml.

I really think that's your domain, but if you insist.
Does something like the m68k fix proposed at

i'd think Perl has no business into looking at the HZ value,
as it gives no sense at all now nowadays with the NO_HZ aka
 dynticks usage.

Perl doesn't really use it as long as sysconf(_SC_CLK_TCK) works.
It also has a fallback if HZ isn't defined, the failure mode just
defeats that.

Bug#356853: license cleanup day

2008-05-09 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi guys,

I have worked a bit through the license bugs:

texlive-extra now seems to be clean, I will upload it soon.
  * blacklist tpm/camel as it is nosell, thus we need a new .orig.tar.gz
(Closes: #479832)
  * add a license statement from Robert Gilles about the bbm fonts to
Licenses file (Closes: #479097)
  * add a license statement from Michael NÃŒsken about the
computational-complexity packages to the Licenses file (Closes: #477152)

texlive-base:
We have bugs #356853 and ##477060

#477060 I consider valid for an lenny-ignore since we are definitely in
process of fixing that

In #356853 there I wrote some time:
  * Donald Arsenau files [OPEN]
  * eepic docs [OPEN]
  * amslatex [HALF-OPEN]

The amslatex is part of bug 477060, the eepic docs I have now
blacklisted in texlive-base source package (but wait for more before
uploading).

That leaves us with Donald Arsenau's files.

Can someone write to Donald again, an email would be enough for us to
get this fixed. I mean an email from him stating that ...

Thanks

Norbert

Ok, I've build and installed this version and it works well for me, with
phpinfo() and some standard apps like phpmyadmin aswell as a custom project.
So I think we're safe to go. I've also added an extra patch for a minor DoS
which could be fixed with a very simple patch.

Anyone who finds some time to review or test, please go ahead. If I hear no
further objections I'll release the DSA as soon as I get to it (and the
buildds finish it) sometime over the weekend.

Next up: php4 in stable. What's the status?

Bug#480205: Incomplete Screen Section in xorg.conf

2008-05-09 Thread Jordi Pujol
Because the man page of xorg.conf says that each Screen section specifies its

Copied from the man xorg.conf page:

Screen sections have the following format:

   Section Screen
   Identifier name
   Device devid

The Identifier and Device entries are mandatory.

+ xserver-xorg-core 2:1.4-3 and above will use the first device section
listed when none is specified. We only write one device with this
 script anyway.
 + Have xserver-xorg depend on -core = 2:1.4-3

So this is intentional as far as I can tell.

 Cheers,
 Julien

Bug#295526: libpam-unix2 only works as root

2008-05-09 Thread Ivan Kohler
On Thu, May 08, 2008 at 05:25:24PM +0200, Christoph Pleger wrote:
 Hello,

Myself as well, but I'm hesitant to blindly include the old patch unless
someone picks it up, updates or rewrites it for current code, and gets
some code review from current PAM folks.

As far as I can see, my old changes should still apply to the current etch
 version of libpam-unix2.

Getting a fix past the release-managers into etch is probably a lost
cause. We can include a fix in a normal upload to unstable. If we are
quick, we can probably even make it into lenny, the next release.

As my message says, what needs to be done to resolve this bug:

- The patch needs to be updated to apply against the current package in
unstable.

and, importantly:

- we need some some code review/feedback/ignoff from the Debian folks
maintaining PAM and other related components. I am *NOT* going to be
the guy who uploads a new setuid binary without adequate review.

unix2_chkpwd.c is available for example in the file
pam-modules-10.3-47.src.rpm of OpenSuSE 10.3. Installing that file on a
Debian system (with rpm -i) unpacks unix2_chkpwd.c
 into /usr/src/rpm/SOURCES/.

This is interesting new information. You're saying unix2_chkpwd.c has
an upstream somewhere (separate from pam_unix2)? That's odd, but
certainly a better situation to be in than a random one-off piece of
code.

Is there somewhere where one can download the current unix2_chkpwd
source, on its own and not as part of the SuSE PAM source RPM?

Someone really needs to pick up the ball and run with it as described
above if they want this issue fixed. Unfortunately I don't have time
for that myself in the near future.

Dear LazyNet, the bug is tagged help, please do! :)

Bug#479643: Fixed in 1.99

2008-05-09 Thread Koen Vermeer
This problem is fixed in the 1.99 version (released on May 1st). From
the changelog of 1.99:

 - Handle recent kernels returning unsupported from the cpu freq
scaling_setspeed sysfs entry. It was causing the hibernate script
   to die prematurely.

So I guess that when Martin updates the package to the newest version,
he can close the bug.

(Should I tag this report as fixed-upstream, or is that the maintainers
job?)

Bug#480266: option to create non-login shell over ControlMaster socket connections

2008-05-09 Thread martin f krafft
Package: openssh-client
Version: 1:4.7p1-8
Severity: wishlist
File: /usr/bin/ssh

Getting additional shell sessions on a remote machine through
a ControlMaster socket is much alike to opening terminals in X.
There, I have the option to get login shells in each, but I don't by
default.

With ssh, however, every shell is a login shell, even though via the
ControlMaster, I don't actually log in.

It would be nice if there was an option to tell ssh to create
non-login shells over ControlMaster socket connections. I seem to be
able to already simulate this with

  ssh -t host \$SHELL

so it doesn't seem impossible. :)

Bug#480268: Scrobbler plugin acts weirdly

2008-05-09 Thread Julien Danjou
Package: audacious-plugins-extra
Version: 1.5.0-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The scrobbler plugin is acting weirdly.
When launching audacious, the Password box is empty, that I assume is
ok.
Then I start to play a song, and it send the info on last.fm as I can
see on the Web site.

But then a popup window appears informing me that my username and login
are wrong, which is totally false since it does work as I can see.
A new popup like this appears for a while every ~30 seconds and then the
plugin just stop doing its job.

Bug#480270: fails to identify gpg key to use

This is because I use the additional info field for my Debian UID:

I suggest that dpkg-buildpackage should honour $DEBKEYID, and if
that's unset and the current method fails to identify a key ID, then
it should try to find the key using only the maintainer/uploader
email, instead of using the whole Name Email string.

Bug#480272: traverso: missing dependency libqt4-opengl

2008-05-09 Thread Thomas Kupper

Package: traverso
Version: 0.42.0-2
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I installed Traverso 0.42.0-2 on my Debian which is mainly Lenny but
with Sid also as
package sources. That way I came to install Traverso which is in
'unstable' only as I've seen.

After installing I ran traverso as non-root and got the error:

/usr/bin/traverso: error while loading shared libraries:
libQtOpenGL.so.4: cannot open shared object

file: No such file or directory

... and I realised that libqt4-opengl is not in the dependence list of
the package:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-cache depends traverso | grep libqt
 Depends: libqt4-core
 Depends: libqt4-gui

... although it is listed as a dependency if I check
http://packages.debian.org/sid/traverso, though
only for the ARM architecure. Of course manually installing
libqt4-opengl solved that problem.

Would be good to fix that, of course :)

Cheers,
Thomas

Bug#479711: eval require Foo with binary-incompatible XS modules

2008-05-09 Thread Niko Tyni
Hi p5p,

we're currently doing the 5.8.8 - 5.10.0 transition in Debian, and the
binary incompatibility in the XS module interface is biting us in an
unexpected way.

In a nutshell, it's possible during the upgrade to temporarily end up
in a state where perl is still 5.8.8, but some XS modules are already
the new ones (ie. built for 5.10.0).

The package scripts try to fail gracefully in situations like this by
doing effectively an 'eval require Locale::gettext' or the like.
Unfortunately this doesn't work: the require succeeds but the dynamic
linker kills the script off immediately afterwards because of a
symbol lookup error.

This can be circumvented by setting $ENV{PERL_DL_NONLAZY}=1 before
the eval, so it's arguably a feature. I'm wondering if it would make
sense for Perl to do this automatically inside all eval statements.
After all, the user is using the eval because he wants to catch
exceptions immediately.

If this is obviously too intrusive or otherwise broken, please hit me
with a cluebat. In that case, I think the eval entry in perlfunc.pod
could mention the issue.

I can take a shot at a patch for either case, I'd just like to know
which is the right thing to do.

Details on the Debian issue can be found at http://bugs.debian.org/479711,
cc'd as [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

# perl -e 'local $ENV{PERL_DL_NONLAZY}=0; eval require Locale::gettext; print

how do you suspend?

Bug#323790: cdebootstrap: Description is very, very short

That's very helpful, thanks a lot. Now that you are at it, it will be great if
you can add to the description if there is any other difference in features
with respect to debootstrap.

Sorry if I sound so nitpicker, but I think that a long, detailed description
helps a lot when you are in doubt about what a package does, and which one

Thanks again.

Bug#467123: chromium: 467123: wrapper done, doesn't work

2008-05-09 Thread Paul Wise
Hi all,

I've written a plib wrapper for the parts of TexFont used by chromium,
but unfortunately it doesn't render anything. I've attached the new
versions of TexFont.cpp, TexFont.h and the patch needed to let it build
after replacing the old versions with the new versions.

Also our beloved^Wex-DPL might be willing to switch chromium to using
FTGL and TTF fonts.

pabs gr
* pabs hates TexFont with a passion
pabs anyone feel like helping with getting rid of the non-free code in
chromium? I have a TexFont-compatible wrapper for the plib fnt stuff,
but it doesn't display anything :(
sam what does texfont do?
pabs its an old font format by Mark J Kilgard, basically for rendering
using OpenGL textures
pabs in chromium it renders the menus, scores, etc
sam oh, I'll see if I can replace that code with FTGL
pabs cool, would you like upstream svn access?
sam that would dangerously move my I'll see if towards a I
will :-)
sam let me first look at the code
pabs any help is most welcome, been tooo many years since I looked at
opengl stuff
pabs mind if I paste this into the bug report?
sam I started 2 months ago :-)
sam pabs: please do
pabs only catch with FTGL would be somehow converting space.txf to a
ttf font
sam it looks like only txfRenderFancyString() can possibly be a
problem
pabs chromium doesn't use that AFAICT
sam it's likely space.txf was created from a truetype font itself
sam also, using another font that's already in Debian will allow for
proper i18n

I've worked together with Helge in the German translation team, and I can say
that he's very thorough with regard to translations. He's one of the most
active (maybe even *the* most active) translators in our team, and he's very
easy to work with. If there's any doubt about how to translate something into
German, he's always open to discussion on the mailing list.

I don't know his packages, so I cannot say anything about his packaging
skills. Judging from his translation work, I would think that he's paying a
lot of attention to details and wants to keep his packages in a good shape.

I'm sure that Helge will be a good Debian maintainer.

Bug#408939: FYI, on iceweaseling old standard

2008-05-09 Thread Nicolas Spalinger

Hang on a second,

IMHO the keys issues are:
- we have some packages underway that build from the source sfd
- we do not yet have a fully free build path for this font that matches
the post-processing tweaks done by upstream with restricted tools
- it's quite understandable that designers don't want regressions and
bugs attached to the name of their upstream font (hence the renaming
request), this is a *feature* of the OFL model: keep the fonts free and
give designers artistic integrity.

So yes if we really rebuild from source and it's not the same result
then a rename is to be considered but before that there are other
avenues to explore: it's not like we're been trying to get it packaged
for months now, a few more weeks to get this right and please everyone
is worth it.

BTW, I strongly disagree with choosing an offensive name for a renamed
derivative. Bad form. IMHO this is not what this community is about.

Given the manpower we currently have in the various font teams I don't
think we want to maintain distro-specific build branches for the various
fonts which come with more complete sources right now. Let's work with
the designers and advocate a more open process to them instead of taking
the task on ourselves. We should work on automating regression testing
but we don't have enough resources right now.

Keep in mind that not all open fonts we are currently shipping provide
full and complete sources besides the ttf. We're working towards that
and providing a fully free build path but we're not there yet. A sane
license is a good first step, the fully free sources and the fully free
build path will stem from that (as some designers are now doing) but
making them a strict requirement for everyone/everywhere is going to
prevent *many designers* from joining our community.

Do you realise that we'd have to reject almost all the fonts we
currently have in the archive that don't completely build from source in
a pbuilder/koji env? I think you'll agree that we don't want to do that.

IMHO it's not fair to make it harder on designers who actually made a
conscious effort to publish sources (even though it's not totally
complete) but we have to encourage them to go further and see how that
it can help them and us. I'll write to the Old-standard designer to know
more about his post-processing tweaks and see how we can reproduce them
in our build-path in the future.

So we should make the case for releasing more complete sources to
designers but without offending them or requiring that they switch to
our fully free toolkit overnight because it's not yet ready. It's not
going to happen so fast. We have to work on common formats as the first
steps as well as continue improving our open toolkit.

We have to be sensitive to the community of type designers and their
expectations while not compromising our values.
Remember how not so long ago we didn't have any open fonts at all?
We're making progress but let's not go too fast and loose people in the
process.

Sorry about the rant, thanks again for the great work you've been doing
around fonts. Much appreciated.

Pabs, could you write a mail to me to explain precisely what you find
problematic with the renaming requirements? That would be helpful.

/me goes back the LGM talks.
I'll report back to you guys about the stuff happening here around fonts.

I stand corrected, I cannot fix this. The version of ld.so.8 comes from

As the package has been reassigned already nothing needs to be done on
 my end I guess.

For the record: On rPath Linux, OWL and Alt Linux ld.so.8 comes from
the man-pages package.

Bug#473682: More *at() implementations

2008-05-09 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi again,

I uploaded another fakechroot into Ubuntu to implement some more *at()
calls. It still lacks the proper #ifdef'ing, but maybe it is useful
for somebody.

Bug#480004: apt-cacher-report.pl hard-codes config file

As per bug #479799, I went ahead and set up separate configuration files
for Ubuntu vs. Debian. It works nicely, except that
apt-cacher-report.pl hard-codes the configuration file and doesn't let
you override it, so I can't generate separate report for my separate
 apt-cacher instances.

apt-cacher-report.pl should have an optional -c configfile argument.

Good catch! I hadn't spotted this one. Glad the basic dual daemon thing
works for you.

I will get this fixed.

Bug#363536: germinate: Allow specification of local seed file

2008-05-09 Thread Colin Watson
On Wed, Apr 19, 2006 at 06:57:03PM +0200, Sven Mueller wrote:
Especially while experimenting with germinate, it would be quite usefull
to be able to specify a local seed file instead of going the seed-URL,
 seed-dist way via some http-server.

This is possible, but I've added documentation for the next release of
germinate.

Furthermore (I don't want to open another bug report for that), it would
be nice if you could document what the parent part on the
 seed-packages parameter really means.

Fixed some time ago:

germinate (0.15) unstable; urgency=low

  * Source moved to bzr; update copyright file.
  * Add germinate-update-metapackage script to help manage updating
ubuntu-meta et al (thanks, Gustavo Franco; closes:
https://launchpad.net/bugs/37917).
  * Improve man page documentation of --seed-packages slightly (see
#363536).

 -- Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri, 9 Jun 2006 01:04:21 +0100

A few examples in the man page would also be nice.

I'll add an example for the next release as well.

Thanks,

Justification: renders package unusable

All programs give a segmentation fault when starting (glxinfo, glx,
gears, etc). It seems the problem is caused by the recent upgrade to
xorg 1:7.3+10. Before this upgrade everything went OK!

Bug#451571: EXA causes bad rendering on 965G

2008-05-09 Thread Alan Chandler
I have just upgraded to the latest intel driver in unstable and my screen
went completely funny. Basically many display facilities no longer
worked, with either large black blobs or white blobs replacing what should
be there. For instance KDM's login screen became a white, rounded
rectangle bordered by a wide black border. The debian logo in it was
moved to the bottom left of the screen, expanded and became only black and
white.

All text from scaleable fonts became either black or white blobs.

I understand the default for this driver has changed from xaa 2D
acceleration to exa acceleration. By adding OptionAccel xaa into
xorg.conf it works again.

NOTE - my xorg.conf was created by running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg,
and of course doesn't (now) produce a useable result.

After having built and installed (m-a a-i linux-wlan-ng), one has to call
 depmod -ae once to
make the kernel modules loadable. This would be useful in the postinst script.

sounds strange, could you please check the postinst file of your

Bug#480256: libversion-perl: uninstallable, depends on perl ( 5.9.0) and perlapi-5.8.8

reassign 480256 perl-modules

found 480256 5.10.0-3
severity 480256 important

 Package: libversion-perl
 Version: 1:0.7400-2
 Severity: normal

The transition to perl 5.10 made libversion-perl uninstallable, due to
dependencies which cannot be satisfied on sid. Please rebuild/port to the
 new perl release.

version.pm is part of perl-modules and there is an unfortunate bug in
the Conflicts:

Package: perl-modules
Version: 5.10.0-10
Replaces: libversion-perl
Provides: libversion-perl
Conflicts: libversion-perl ( 1:0.7400-2)

That should be 1:0.7400-3 as we have -2 already in the archive. Or
even better, 1:0.7401, as the version of perl-modules-provided
version.pm is 0.7400

Reassigning to perl-modules and bumping the urgency to important as this
affects upgrades from Etch.

Giacomo, you can safely remove libversion-perl when upgrading perl to
5.10.

Bug#480130: m68knommu: rework definition of HZ

Rework the HZ definition to be more consistent with other architectures.
Non-kernel includers will see a constant HZ setting of 100.

Something like this is needed for asm-alpha/param.h as well.
Perl and possibly python too fail to build with the 2.6.25 header
on alpha due to 'CONFIG_HZ' undeclared.

Some details can be found in http://bugs.debian.org/480130 .

Bug#480296: python-qt4-gl: Python scripts using this module segfault on exit

2008-05-09 Thread Sven Marnach
Package: python-qt4-gl
Version: 4.3.3-2
Severity: normal

Here's a simple example:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ cat test.py
from PyQt4 import QtOpenGL
print Imported QtOpenGL
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ python test.py
Imported QtOpenGL
Segmentation fault

I don't know who to blame for the segfault. It doesn't hurt much
anyway since it doesn't segfault until the script exits.

Cheers,
Sven
