Bug#579083: gxine: Crashes X with some files, using Xv output (old Xine UI works fine)

2010-04-25 Thread John Lindgren
Package: gxine
Version: 0.5.905-4
Severity: normal

Hi,

I was hoping to switch from the old Xine UI to GXine because on the
nicer interface, but ran into the problem of GXine crashing my X server.
It happens with Xv output but not XShm. I can reliably reproduce it,
after having cleared ~/.config/gxine, by playing this file:

http://www.archive.org/download/1933-11_Industry_Booms_After_Repeal_of_Prohibition/1933-11_Industry_Booms_After_Repeal_of_Prohibition_512kb.mp4

The lower half of the video shows green lines for a second or so before
X dies. X log attached with backtrace showing a segfault within memcpy.
The same file plays fine in Xine using the older xine-ui interface.
Other files that I've tested play fine in GXine.

Video card is:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650

Bug#461819: gxine: Deinterlace not engaged when set on by default

2010-04-25 Thread John Lindgren
tags 461819 - moreinfo
thanks

Hello,

This bug is still present in 0.5.905-4. To answer Darren's question,
No, it does not apply only to the tvtime deinterlacer. gxine simply
does not enable deinterlacing for interlaced content automatically. To
enable it, the Video - Deinterlace option must be unchecked and then
checked again. Probably related is that when playing progressive
content, unchecking and then checking that option still enables
deinterlacing (though it should be disabled on progressive content),
causing video corruption (at least with tvtime).

There is a bug in flv/stream.rb, at line 399, when testing for the
presence of audio in a FLV file. Given the following program, with
input.flv a valid FLV file containing audio tags:

Thanks for your recent patches, Nicolas. I have integrated them and

Bug#579084: gnome-icon-theme: missing preview of text files in nautilus

2010-04-25 Thread Brian Marshall
Package: gnome-icon-theme
Version: 2.30.1-1
Severity: normal

Since upgrading to gnome-icon-theme 2.30.1-1, text files no longer show
previews in Nautilus. Instead, they show a blank document icon.
Downgrading to 2.28.0-1 solves the problem.

Also, and I'm not sure if this is relevant, if you open the Nautilus
preferences dialog and change the setting for previewing text files
while a folder with previewable text files is also open, you can see
that the icon shifts to the left when previews are enabled, making it
off-center.

Description : Java bindings to Tokyo Cabinet database library

Tokyo Cabinet is a library of routines for managing a database.
The database is a simple data file containing records, each is a
pair of a key and a value. Every key and value is serial bytes
with variable length. Both binary data and character string can
be used as a key and a value. There is neither concept of data
tables nor data types. Records are organized in hash table,
  B+ tree, or fixed-length array.
  .
This package is the Java bindings for Tokyo Cabinet, which will

The problem stil exist. The script try to insert itselv both before

This is the error when installing the package in unstable at the
moment.

The fix is either to remove the $remote_fs relation and rewrite the
script to not use any tools in /usr/, or to remove the $network
relation and accept that the script will start after the network is
started. I do not know the script enough to tell which is the correct
approach.

Happy hacking,

It appears that there was some conflict between the checking for new

Comments/Problems:

(1) Network card was not recognised - this is a previously reported

(2) When I reached the disk partitioning options, I selected the manual
option, as I wanted some encrypted volumes. However, the process for
performing this was very confusing, and I had to start from scratch
after my first attempt. It is a little while ago now, but from
memory, I had to:

- select the partition type (encrypted)
- then I was allowed to move onto the next step (installing the base
system) *before* I had configured the encrypted volumes

I think that, if an encrypted partition type is selected, the
installer should not allow the user to proceed to install the base
system without configuring the partitions, or at least confirming that
they do not wish to do so.

Package: cpufrequtils

Please add a homepage link in the control file for the cpufrequtils
package. As far as I can tell, the
URL:http://kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/cpufreq/cpufrequtils.html
would be the correct URL to use.

This patch implement the change.

Bug#578668: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#578668: alsa-utils: most of volume management keys in alsamixer are not working

  Urgh...

   because:

Yes, this may be related to pulseaudio. But I (as a user) can see this
as a regression in alsamixer. Even amixer works well.

   What happens if you do:

   mv ~/.asoundrc ~/.asoundrc.bak

I have no sound card except pulseaudio one.

FYI pulseaudio is _not_ a sound driver but a sound server. You
should hear sound with every ALSA soundcard with out any pulseaudio
 participation.

So, if i'll do that you
suggest I just get system without sound card at all and alsamixer would
  not start.

I don't. Your soundcard will work.

If i'll do this and install snd-dummy sound card alsamixer
will perform well and in expected way. All this is written in my previous
  post.

 Not needed.

It seems to be more a problem of that pulsaudio thingi.

Mb alsamixer, mb libasound, mb libpulse, mb pulseserver, mb alsa on
server side. But I see regression in alsamixer - downgraded only
alsa-utils and alsamixer works well. Also I see that this is
  reproducible.

What does Mb and mb mean? Well it is not reproducible for me as a
 user.

Please remove unreproducible tag if you can reproduce this following my
  instructions.

No, I can't reproduce and won't test pulseaudio.

Please change bug title to 'most of volume management keys
in alsamixer are not working with pulseaudio sink' to make it more
  descriptive.

You can file this as a pulseaudio bug then. I won't ;-)

  Thanks, Gennady.

 Elimar

FYI pulseaudio is _not_ a sound driver but a sound server. You
should hear sound with every ALSA soundcard with out any pulseaudio
participation.

FYI I am software developer and use Linux for more than 10 years. I even
have 1 my patch in libasound. I know how exactly things are working.

This report is not against 'sound driver'. It's about alsamixer. In this
case you may consider pulseaudio client side as 'driver'. alsamixer name
it 'sound card' - why not?

I don't. Your soundcard will work.

I have no sound card. I have no speakers connected to machine. what do
you think will work on that system? Read bug report, I spend much time
writing it to make reproduction as easy as possible and problem as clean
as possible.

What does Mb and mb mean? Well it is not reproducible for me as a
user.

MB=may be.

No, I can't reproduce and won't test pulseaudio.

If you do not want to reproduce this problem - no problem, but remove
tag. Because your unwilling to reproduce do not mean it is not
reproducible.

You can file this as a pulseaudio bug then. I won't ;-)

If you think bug is in other package, can you request changing package
for this bug?

Gennady.

Bug#579091: cpufrequtils: Update loadcpufreq to latest upstream version from Ubuntu?

2010-04-25 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: cpufrequtils
Version: 006-2
Tags: patch

I had a look at the powernowd-1.00/debian/cpufreq-detect.sh file in
Ubuntu powernowd package version 1.00-1ubuntu5, which the loadcpufreq
init.d script is based on, to see if there had been any updates. This
is the relevant patch. Apparently Ubuntu now loads the
speedstep-centrino module for Intel CPUs with the est flag, and only
load the e_powersaver module on VIA CPUs with the est flag (perhaps
this is the solution for #566214?).

Bug#579094: lincity: Patch fixes typos

2010-04-25 Thread Chris Leick

Package: lincity
Version: 1.13.1
Severity: minor
Tags: l10n patch

Hi,

while translating »lincity« to german, I've found some typos. To fix
them, I've attached a patch.

Here some other possible improvements:

a)
 #: cliglobs.c:56
 msgid Jan

You can find the months in glibc with strftime %b.

b)
Some strings are divided into two parts. That's difficult for translators.

c)
You've used different abbreviations for some words, e.g. »firestation«
-- »fire stn« »fire sta'n«. IMO it's better use it consistent. If the
reason for this abbreviation is the length of the field, theres a note
for the translators missing, which max length is possible for the
translated strings.

d)
There are some strings that contain only other already translated
strings , e.g.

#: main.c:772
#, c-format
msgid Residences %4d Markets %4dFarms %4d\n

Is it possible to combine them?

e)
Please add a comment for translators here:
 #: screen.c:1854
 #, c-format
 msgid %s%5.1f MINS/year V %s

It's not clear, what MIN means here. See also:

#. TRANSLATORS:
#. MIN=Mining, PRT=Import/export from port,
#. MNY=Money, POP=Population, TEC=Technology,
#. FIR=Fire coverage
#.
#: screen.c:2464
msgid MIN

f)
#: modules/monument.c:73
#, c-format
msgid % Complete

ist interpreted by gettext(). In the german translation (% vollständig),
msgfmt -cv produces an error (% v is not a valid format string)

Can you mask the character »%« (%%)?

Regards,
Chris

Bug#579095: icedove: Please include instructions on reporting bugs upstream

2010-04-25 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: icedove
Version: 3.0.4-2
Severity: normal

Hi, I didn't find the information on debugging icedove that
is at http://wiki.dovecot.org/Debugging/Thunderbird referenced
in the manual page, /usr/share/doc/icedove or in any reportbug
script for icedove.

Also I didn't find the upstream site for reporting bugs,
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org listed except at the end of the manual
page. I thought that the upstream site should be listed in
/usr/share/doc/package-name?

Finally, if one does report a bug found in a Debian package upstream,
the instructions on marking a bug as forwarded upstream (such as at
http://www.debian.org/Bugs/server-control ) are not easy to find.

Could the above information be included in

Bug#579059: lcdproc: USB drivers not being built

2010-04-25 Thread José Luis Tallón
Hi, Nick

Nick Leverton wrote:

I've actually built a package based on 0.5.3 which fixes this (and hence
a number of other USB driver requests in the BTS here). I created this
package myself as I needed 0.5.3 for compatibility with an embedded
system I am working on. I need to tidy it up a bit before it would be
fit for Debian, but I'll add a link to this bug when done. I hope it
 might be useful to you.

Thanks. Lcdproc is in much need of some care, and could use some helping
hands.
If you shared the package soon, I can help with getting it in proper shape.

Regards,

J.L.

Hi!

When i declare a Path to a pre- oder postdisconnect-script, wicd will run this

When there is no path to a skript for disconnection, wicd workes fine.

The Log (with a pre-disconnection-script):

2010/04/25 10:32:05 :: Running pre-disconnect script

I set special routes an open a vpn-tunnel on connecting, and i will close and
delete all them on disconnect. This won´t work.

Stop abusing the BTS by assigning bogus severities. fetchmail does not
trash external data or the system, nor does it cause data loss.
The culprit has already been identified as clamassassin in bug 578953
(likely the use of perror() or equivalent in clamassassin) - so anything
beyond normal would be inappropriate for fetchmail.

Newer fetchmail versions support a workaround (--bad-header accept), but
chances are that your MTA or MUA throw up anyways. The bug is really
with another package.

This is probably the culprit. Where does the libgksu-gconf-defaults
 alternative point to?

The libgksu-gconf-defaults alternative now points to

/usr/share/libgksu/debian/gconf-defaults.libgksu-sudo

But it did not point there a few minutes ago...
which was the problem. I must have messed up the link while configuring
some alternatives.
The strange thing is that the error turned up only now and not earlier.
Package gconf2 installs fine now.

Thank you very much for your help! I would never have found the cause.

You can close the bug - sorry for filing a report as the error was
obviously on my side.

Bug#579098: gdm3: Problem to load Compiz automatically, file ~/.gnomerc is ignored.

2010-04-25 Thread mrmonkey
Package: gdm3
Version: 2.30.0-2
Severity: normal

Hallo!

I've a problem to start Compiz automatically with Gnome.
I've followed this guide: http://wiki.debian.org/Compiz, but when I login with
gdm3, the system ignores such file, and starts Metacity instead Compiz.

So I've tried both to set gconf-editor so: desktopsessionrequired-
componentwindowmanager=compiz, and login by another user, but they also
failed.

The only way to load Compiz is to add 'compiz --replace' in start-applications.

Further, when I start with Metacity, I have this warning in ~/.xsession-errors
file: Apertura del file
/home/mrmonkey/.config/metacity/sessions/103355c1a749a6723512642680371564020024830020.ms
non riuscita: No such file or directory,
although Metacity starts in seemingly regular way.

Can you solved it?

Thank you very much for your attention!

Bug#579091: cpufrequtils: Update loadcpufreq to latest upstream version from Ubuntu?

I had a look at the powernowd-1.00/debian/cpufreq-detect.sh file in
Ubuntu powernowd package version 1.00-1ubuntu5, which the loadcpufreq
init.d script is based on, to see if there had been any updates. This
is the relevant patch. Apparently Ubuntu now loads the
speedstep-centrino module for Intel CPUs with the est flag, and only

odd, we never loaded speedstep-centrino on any est capable machine only
based on the kernel version since (almost) forever, see:
http://git.kamineko.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=cpufrequtils.git;a=commitdiff;h=8c4880e717bf3fec4034ec2cfed346550eb1a213
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=502431
To be honest I think it should be the Ubuntu package that should get
code from Debian.

load the e_powersaver module on VIA CPUs with the est flag (perhaps
this is the solution for #566214?).

e_powersaver won't load anyway on non-est capable cpus, from
e_powersaver.c:
if (!cpu_has(c, X86_FEATURE_EST))
return -ENODEV;

and really, looking at the help text from the kernel sources it looks
like acpi_cpufreq should be used instead:

help
This adds the CPUFreq driver for VIA C7 processors. However, this
driver
does not have any safeguards to prevent operating the CPU out of spec
and is thus considered dangerous. Please use the regular ACPI cpufreq
  driver, enabled by CONFIG_X86_ACPI_CPUFREQ.

I would rather do that at this point.

retitle RM: cgal/3.5-1; cgal/3.5.1-1; cgal/3.5.1-2; RoM; needed for transition

thanks

Dear FTP masters,

meanwhile I uploaded version 3.6-1 to unstable, which could transition to
testing, but it is blocked because of outdated binary packages on some
architectures in unstable.

Please remove all outdated binary packages matching libcgal* from unstable.

In case you want to prevent similar problems in the future feel free to add
every architecture except i386 and amd64 to P-a-s and remove all binary packages
libcgal* except those two architectures from unstable. I'm not aware of any
users on architectures different from i386 and amd64.

Thanks,
  Joachim

Bug#578996: libtool: LT_LIBM doesn't work properly on AIX

Hello Török,

this is clearly an upstream, and not a Debian packaging bug. Adding
bug-libtool.

Looks like the macro looks for cos in -lm, and if it does't find it there,
it assumes that no library is needed for it.
But that is not the case here (the user didn't have libm installed).

OK, that's a bug. For the Libtool testsuite (which I have so far
thought to be the primary user of LT_LIB_M) the right fix would be
to allow another failure action however, so we could skip the test.

I think this macro should fail at configure time, and tell the user to install
libm, if it can't find the cos() function at all.

If you need such a macro, then you should write one yourself, and use
a math function that you are going to need. It's essentially a one-liner:
  AC_SEARCH_LIBS([cos], [m], [], [AC_MSG_ERROR([need math library])])

Cheers,
Ralf

Bug#505303: ability to remove a topgit branch

2010-04-25 Thread Marcus Better
Forgive my stupidity, but after reading this bug report I'm still not
able to figure out how to retire a topgit branch that is no longer
needed for a new upstream version. Should I tg-delete it, or will this
mess things up?

Cheers,

Same problem in my pc (Debian Sid i386), but with gdm 2.20.10-3.

The only important difference is that, if I try to start compiz in any
other different way from the compiz - replace, the system does not
load ANY window manager.

Bug#559072: python-turbokid 1.0.5-1 seems to solve bug

2010-04-25 Thread Jose Ramon Alvarez Sanchez
Previously, with turbokid/1.0.4-6, I needed to apply the correction
from Tuukka Tolvanen for bug #559072.

After version 1.0.5-1 of python-turbokid entered testing,
I removed the old files /usr/share/pyshared/TurboKid-1.0.4.egg-info/
created by hand for that bug and tried to execute and old TG1
application.

Initially, there was an error about pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound:
distribute that is solved by installing python-setuptools as bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563060
says and then reinstalling python-turbokid (for registering I suppose).

This was enough to run correctly my old application with TG1.

Maybe bug #559072 could be now closed and a new bug about
dependencies on python-setuptools (correct *.egg-info/requires.txt)
must be opened (i will open it against turbogears).

Bug#579102: please let conky be moved back to main!

2010-04-25 Thread Francesco Poli (t1000)
Package: conky
Version: 1.8.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

Thanks for adopting my favorite system monitor! :-)

I've just found out that the package has been moved to contrib, though!
:-(

After digging into the ITA bug (#536320), it seems to me that the
only reason why the source package was moved away from main, is
that *one* binary package build-depends on nvidia-settings (which
is in contrib, since, I suppose, is useless without the nvidia
proprietary drivers...).

I don't want to use a package that directly or indirectly
(build-)depends on non-free packages!
I don't even have contrib in my sources.list, since it opens up
the possibility that I install packages that download non-free stuff
off the net, and so forth...

If I understand correctly:

  * only one conky feature (build-)depends on nvidia stuff
  * this feature has been added to conky recently (hence it was
not present in previous versions packaged for Debian main)
  * this feature is only useful to users that use the non-free nvidia
drivers
  * this feature is only present in amd64 and i386 architectures

For all these reasons, I think it's a shame that conky has been moved
to contrib just for that new feature.

Please, please disable nvidia-related stuff in the conky Debian package,
so that the package may stop build-depending on nvidia-settings and thus
may be moved back to main!

The few users that want to take advantage of the nvidia-related new
feature, may locally rebuild the conky package (just like they often
rebuild nvidia modules...).

I hope that I clearly expressed my reasoning and that you agree with me.
Please move conky back to main! ;-)

Thanks for your time.

Bug#578923: [autoconf] Warning if testing for declaration with namespace (std::setlocale)

2010-04-25 Thread Ralf Wildenhues
tags +upstream
thanks

Hello Jens,

this is clearly an upstream bug. Adding bug-autoconf.

* Jens Seidel wrote on Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 05:30:55PM CEST:
 AC_LANG_PUSH(C++)
 AC_CHECK_DECL(std::setlocale, [AC_DEFINE([HAVE_SETLOCALE], [], [Define if
setlocale is available in clocale])], , [#include clocale])

 results in the warning
conftest.cpp:37:12: warning: extra tokens at end of #ifndef directive
 in config.log.

 The corresponding code is:

 #include clocale

 int
 main ()
 {
 #ifndef std::setlocale
   (void) std::setlocale;
 #endif

   ;
   return 0;
 }

The problem is #ifndef std::setlocale where : is no proper macro
character. In this case the ifndef can be ommitted.

Yep. This is another problem with the AC_CHECK_DECL* macros and C++
sources. There is a pending patch for another issue in this area,
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gcc.patches/201265/focus=12673
but it does not address the above.

It would probably be sufficient to just not use the #ifndef if the name
contained characters not suitable for a CPP macro.

Cheers, and thanks for the bug report,
Ralf

Bug#579107: Patch to add --firstgid and --lastgid to addgroup

2010-04-25 Thread James Iseppi

Package: adduser
Version: 3.110
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

I was after a way to use a different range of gid's when invoking
addgroup, similar to --firstuid and --lastuid with adduser. When I
discovered it wasn't currently supported I modified the script to
include it. If you think this feature is an appropriate addition to
the functionality of addgroup, It would be good if this patch was
incorporated into the next release. This may be a better solution for
bug #440801 than relying on --firstuid and --lastuid.

I also noticed that --firstuid and --lastuid did not work for adduser
--system (bug #344824) so I have also incorporated that feature.

Thanks
James

Bug#579108: fai-client: disk-info does not output disk sizes anymore

2010-04-25 Thread Adrian Glaubitz
Package: fai-client
Version: 3.3.5
Severity: important
Tags: squeeze sid

Hi,

I'm not quite sure whether this change is intentional but in the current
version of fai-client, disk-info does not output the disk sizes anymore.

when invoking /usr/lib/fai/disk-info on a Debian Lenny box, the script outputs
the disk devices together with their sizes (in blocks) while on Squeeze the
scripts just outputs the disk devices. The new behavior comes from this
change which removed $blocks from the output:

- [ $isdisk -eq 1 ] echo $device $blocks
+ [ $isdisk -eq 1 ] echo $device

Changing it back will fix the behavior again. If this behvaior is intentional,
it would be nice, if someone pointed me to the new way to determine disk sizes
since using disk-info breaks our Squeeze FAI installation for the time being.

Thanks,

Adrian

Bug#578900: marked as done (padre: FTBFS with Perl 5.12.0: Bad perl version)

I can confirm that padre builds fine with libperl-apireference-perl
  0.04-1, so closing the bug.

Sorry, could have looked into this one better.

Wait, at the time you reported the bug, libperl-apireference-perl was
at version 0.03 in the archive. 0.04 fixes padre, but I think it
(padre) now needs to build-depend on libperl-apireference (= 0.04) in
order to ensure successful builds with perl 5.12.0 (atm it
 build-depends without a version).

Another way to express the issue (and slightly more correct IMO)
would be for perl 5.12.0 to Break libperl-apireference-perl ( 0.04).
What do you think?

Bug#579110: acpid: fails to power off system on suspend to ram/disk

2010-04-25 Thread Andreas Schneider
Package: acpid
Version: 1:2.0.3-1
Severity: important
Tags: sid

After upgrading to 2.0.4 the system doesn't power off after suspending to RAM /
disk. I.e. it looks like like it's suspending as normal but at the point when
the screen normally goes blank and the system fans / disks power off, the
system remains powered on. In this state the system is pretty much dead, so I
have to press the reset or the power button before I can reboot the machine.
Downgrading only this package to 2.0.3 fixes the problem for me.

Further observations:
* Suspend to disk never worked for me so far (acpid 2.0.3) (the system would
suspend and power off, it also resumes as expected up to the point where I
would expect to get control back; instead I'm stuck watching at a sleeping
Penguin). If I suspend now (acpid 2.0.4) this behaviour doesn't change with the
difference that I have to manually power off the suspended machine. I.e. after
manually powering off and rebooting the same kernel, the system is indeed
resuming from disk but I'm still stuck with the sleeping penguin. So apparently
it's only the 'switch off' command that's not issued (or accepted) anymore.
* The mainboard is an MSI 785GM-E51. s2ram identifies my machine as:

This machine can be identified by:
sys_vendor   = MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD
sys_product  = MS-7596
sys_version  = 1.0
bios_version = V2.5

* Downgrading the BIOS to V2.4 doesn't fix this.
* I'm using the nvidia proprietary graphics driver (Version 190.53-4).
* I have the vmware player installed (Version 3.0.1 build-227600)
* All the rest is what I'd regard a pretty stock debian sid.

If this isn't enough information, please let me know.

/Andreas

   would do AFAICS.

That would indeed be nice, and IIRC this idea already came up in the

I guess someone[tm] should try to hack up something :)

How about providing a new substvar? Something like ${perl:Same} or
${perl:Built} that would expand to a proper =, dependency like the
 one above.

A new substvar would avoid adding command-line switches to dh_perl,
which may be hidden in a 'dh' call.

I like the separate switch approach flag better. The case is rare enough that
having an override_dh_perl target is not much of a burden IMO.

But that's Joey's call, assuming he's OK with having this in debhelper.
I'm cloning a wishlist bug.

Bug#425790: icedove: clicking links does not spawn web browser

2010-04-25 Thread Jean-Guilhem Cailton

Hello,

The same thing happened to me today after regular Lenny upgrade
replaced, among others:

- xulrunner-1.9.1 from 1.9.1.8-5 to 1.9.1.9-6
- and iceweasel (my x-www-browser) from 3.5.8-1 to 3.5.9-2

Reverting the upgrade (*thanks* to snapshot.debian.org) on these two
packages make the usual behavior come back (clicking a link in an email
opens it in web browser).

I don't know if this is an Icedove bug, but since the bug description
fits what I observe, I report it here.

Best regards,

Jean-Guilhem

Looks like the macro looks for cos in -lm, and if it does't find it there,
it assumes that no library is needed for it.
But that is not the case here (the user didn't have libm installed).

OK, that's a bug. For the Libtool testsuite (which I have so far
thought to be the primary user of LT_LIB_M) the right fix would be
to allow another failure action however, so we could skip the test.

I think this macro should fail at configure time, and tell the user to
 install
libm, if it can't find the cos() function at all.

If you need such a macro, then you should write one yourself, and use
a math function that you are going to need. It's essentially a one-liner:
   AC_SEARCH_LIBS([cos], [m], [], [AC_MSG_ERROR([need math library])])

Ok, I don't know why we used LT_LIB_M in the first place, but you are
right we can certainly change it to that instead.

Bug#578396: qemu-kvm: After Squeeze reinstall, Studio 9.4.3 (Windows program) no longer works properly

19.04.2010 19:20, Gary Dale wrote:

Package: qemu-kvm
Version: 0.12.3+dfsg-4
Severity: normal

This is weird. I found it necessary to reinstall Debian/Squeeze. This
shouldn't have affected my Windows XP/Pro VM since it was in my home
directory. However, after reinstalling, Pinnacle Studio 9.4.3 doesn't
build DVDs anymore. The program doesn't fail. It completes normally but
the VIDEO_TS directory doesn't have all the files it should for a
complete DVD.

Windows Explorer shows the intermediate files correctly but consistently
crashes when in that directory. I note that the .m2v files play
correctly, as do the (partial) .vob files in the VIDEO_TS folder.
Windows Explorer also runs very slowly when I'm looking at those
directories. This suggested that a file system corruption may be the
problem, but Windows chkdsk doesn't report any problems (NTFS file
system in a .qcow file).

Ok. Can you please re-create the .qcow file and see if that helps?
Like this:

 kvm-img convert -O qcow2 windows.qcow windows2.qcow

and see (after chkdsk run and re-creating the directory in
question) if that fixes your problem?

Also, verify that you have enough free space on the filesystem
where your qcow file is.

Another useful test is to check if raw format works. Do
the same kvm-img convert but now with -O raw (it's the
default btw).

There were a few bugs in qcow2 format handler fixed during
evolution of qemu/kvm, and some of these bugs lead to some
corruption which can't be easily repaired even after the
bugs are fixed. Overall, it is usually better (and faster
too) to use raw image instead of qcow2.

So far, the bug information is too vague to be of any use.
It might be just due to some bug in the Pinacle Studio
after all, or somewhere in windows XP - and upgrading of
kvm just triggered that bug...

I'm not saying it's definitely the case, but am trying to
show that the number of possibilities is quite high. And
the most likely cause is the bugs in qcow handler, which
probably aren't part of qemu-kvm anymore.

Also, you can try older kvm packages to see if your prob
is still here.

Thanks!

/mjt

I've tried converting my original .qcow file to a new .qcow file and
also to a raw file (which took a long time but seems faster than qcow,
but is also larger - it seems to occupy the full space I initially
created the virtual partition with). Unfortunately the problem still
remains.

The Pinnacle Studio program had been running but I don't know if there
was a qemu-kvm update as part of my Squeeze re-install. How do I revert
to an earlier package to test it?

Bug#579120: gnumeric generates a warning when trying to open newer excel files

Package: gnumeric
Severity: minor

Dear Ray,

I just got a file in the xlsx format, which I think is one of the newer
formats that Microsoft employs in their system.

When I tried to open this file, gnumeric generated some
warnings/messages on the console (with the newest version in sid). Since
I don't know exactly what they mean and it doesn't contain any
confidential data, I would like to submit it so that you can let
upstream know about this.

The file also doesn't seem to be looking good: I only have this file and
a printed version of it (which was produced in a Windows system) and
they differ.

I hope that helps us with the accurate interchange of information with
windows systems. The file is attached here.

How do you suspend?

Downgrading only this package to 2.0.3 fixes the problem for me.

This surprises me. Are you sure this is the only difference? From what you're
describing I cannot see how it's acpid related at all.

Btw. here are the changes between 2.0.3 and 2.0.4:

- Replaced all the mandb code in the makefile with a comment. (Makefile)
- Revamped logging. (acpid.c event.c inotify_handler.c input_layer.c netlink.c
proc.c sock.c)
- Removed CR's (\r) from files. (Changelog connection_list.c sock.c)
- Cleaned up the samples directory a bit. Also added powerbtn samples taken
from Debian. (samples/*)
- Removed the %changelog token from the top of the Changelog. This appears to
be a Red Hat-ism.

Hardly anything that can produce the described problem.

If this isn't enough information, please let me know.

You know that acpid only listens to some interfaces for acpi events and then
executes script accordingly? The functionality you describe is located in the
kernel, I cannot see how acpid has any influence. Could you please check that
you have the same set of modules installed when testing with 2.0.3 and 2.0.4?

Bug#578119: Should ./lib/isccfg/namedconf.c:parse_updatepolicy be the one to determine type-print?

2010-04-25 Thread Regid Ichira

  For my case, setting
static cfg_type_t cfg_type_updatepolicy = {
    update_policy, parse_updatepolicy,
cfg_print_bracketed_list, doc_updatepolicy,
    cfg_rep_list, cfg_type_grant
};
in ./lib/isccfg/namedconf.c seem to work.

However, reading the next few lines, which are the definition of
./lib/isccfg/namedconf.c:parse_updatepolicy, reveals a probable
reason why there is a NULL in the first place.  More specifically,
cfg_type_updatepolicy is, to some extent, derived from a
bracketed_list | token, where the token is local.  (I guess bind
has another definition for such a token, perhaps it is an astring.)
Does only ./lib/isccfg/namedconf.c:parse_updatepolicy can determine
which of the two options is configured for a particular instance?
Should ./lib/isccfg/namedconf.c:parse_updatepolicy be the one to
set type-print according to its resolution?

I am not sure addeng Breaks is worth it. libperl-apireference-perl is
not in stable, so you'd have to remove the Breaks once 0.04 migrates
to testing.

Adding Breaks wouldn't hurt, though, and it would protect from the
(highly unlikely) case of perl 5.12.0 migrating to testing before
libperl-apireference-perl. Having Breaks may also be helpful with the
next perl transition. I guess it could serve as a reminder to see if
libperl-apireference-perl works with $new_perl.

It seems I see more benefits in adding Breaks than drawbacks.

I cannot reproduce the problem here. A grave severity is reserved for
situations when globally the package is unusable, not if unusable for a
single user, so lowering severity (to allow entering testing).

/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/carquinyol/ only contains a shared
library, but no Python files:

r...@xo15-minimal:~# ls /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/carquinyol/
metadatareader.so
r...@xo15-minimal:~#

That's not the case for me:

jo...@auryn:~$ ls -1 /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/carquinyol/
datastore.py
datastore.pyc
filestore.py
filestore.pyc
indexstore.py
indexstore.pyc

layoutmanager.py
layoutmanager.pyc
metadatareader.la
metadatareader.so
metadatastore.py
metadatastore.pyc
migration.py
migration.pyc
optimizer.py
optimizer.pyc

The package installed all files to /usr/share/pyshared/carquinyol/ (so
only the symlinks are missing):

Sounds like pycentral not properly triggered at postinst on your system.

I don't see any postinst file for python-carquinyol-0.88 in
/var/lib/dpkg/info.

Sounds like a broken system to me. That file certainly exist in the
binary package (also for i386, double-checked just now).

Do you perhaps use experimental/unusual filesystem or mount options?

Bug#458956: Found the real culprit here..

2010-04-25 Thread Russell Weatherburn
G'day,

I was having a look at the patch that was generated by Chris Chiappa,
and started to put it into my own copy of the script. While I was
looking, I decided to try and find out what the -M option actually did,
and noticed a rather strange condition.

In line 50, the comment is Create a CUE file. Setting this *should*
work. However...

Parsing of options starts at line 3095. As expected, M is there (line
3119) and sets the DOCUE variable to y. This looks fine... But.

Line 3239 is the determination of actions which are to be done from the
ACTIONS variable, which is set via the -a command. You may note in line
3252 that DOCUE is reset to n, *regardless* of whether it has been
previously set! This, I have found, is the issue at stake. Commenting
this line out, and running the suggested `abcde -1 -M -o flac` command
gave me an flac file with embedded tags. Finally!

Hopefully this will help other people who have come across this error,
and not known why it was the case. It would be a much simpler patch
than what Chris worked out, and I'll look at doing that myself later.

Regards,

Russell.

Bug#567399: a backtrace for 3.4.10, finally

2010-04-25 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
hi Nico--

just in time for your new upload of 3.4.11.1, i finally managed to catch
a backtrace of openbox 3.4.10 crashing with a segmentation fault, which
is attached.

I've now re-build 3.4.11.1 with debugging symbols enabled, and i'm
hoping that i'll be able to get a backtrace if it crashes again.

Can you tell from the attached backtrace if anything relevant has
changed between 3.4.10 and 3.4.11.1?

Thanks for keeping openbox up-to-date in debian, and sorry about the
silly timing of this followup.

Bug#578854: debian-policy: Wording about Conflicts needs to be clarified

2010-04-25 Thread Steve Langasek
On Fri, Apr 23, 2010 at 05:09:36PM +0200, Goswin von Brederlow wrote:
Up to now, I always used Conflicts for explicit file conflicts and used
Breaks for other subtle breakages (interface/API change). So when moving
  files
from one package to the other I used Conflicts: previous (
  last-version)
and Replaces: previous ( last-version) on the package where the files
  are.

Conflicts is always right for file conflicts, and in that case should also
*always* be accompanied by Replaces. The biggest problem, which the Policy
wording tries to address, is the use of bare Conflicts, for things that
aren't file conflicts: in that case, a versioned conflicts is almost always
wrong because what you really mean to express is a versioned Breaks. And
it's *that* usage of versioned Conflicts which causes the most problem for
  the package manager.

How about this? In 7.3 replace

If the breaking package also overwrites some files from the older
package, it should use Replaces (not Conflicts) to ensure this goes
   smoothly.

 with

If the breaking package also overwrites some files from the older
package, it must use a less than versioned Conflicts (not Breaks) to
ensure both upgrades and downgrades go smoothly.

I'm not sure I have an informed opinion about this section, yet. And
there's a separate bug report about this paragraph, which I think we should
use to track this questino separately.

 And in 7.4 replace

A Conflicts entry should almost never have an earlier than version
clause. This would prevent dpkg from upgrading or installing the
package which declared such a conflict until the upgrade or removal of
the conflicted-with package had been completed. Instead, Breaks may be
   used.

 with

A Conflicts entry should only have an earlier than version clause if
it coincides with a Replaces clause of the same package and version. A
Conflicts with an earlier than version clause without Replaces
clause is almost always better done as Breaks.

I think the middle sentence explaining the rationale should be retained.
Aside from that, I think your wording is an improvement.
