I believe its more of a compiz bug. could you create a launcher on the

and see if that brings back the panels

2010-12-29 Thread Achim
As it seems the problem occurs when I login to my jabber-account from
another computer.

To reproduce the problem you need another PC/Laptop.

1. Login to your jabber/XMPP-account on your PC.
At this point your alias should be like you have set it.
2. Login to your jabber/XMPP-account from another PC/Laptop
If you now take a look at your alias it should have changed.

[Bug 695325] [NEW] Wrong set of receiving email path (maildir format) after imported backups from previous evolution version

2010-12-29 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have two evolution accounts and one of them is in maildir format whose path
is /home/marcop/.evolution/mail_unipg.
I have migrated my system from evolution 2.22, in Ubuntu 8.04, to 10.04 (next
LTS) and I imported my evolution backups (done with evolution backup/restore
tool) and all went ok but for some reasons evolution didn't imported well email
receiving path. In fact it couldn't explode my maildir account as it sayd
that i couldn't access to /home/marcop/.evolution/mail_unipg (obviously the
directory was present and with all privileges ok).
In the path field of email receiving tab of my editor maildir account was set
home, so I changed it to the above path and all went ok.

[Bug 695260] Re: gnome-panel help cannot be displayed

2010-12-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-panel

In an Ubuntu Classic Desktop session on a Natty i386 system with gnome-
panel package version 1:2.32.1-0ubuntu4, right-clicking in most places
on the panel and clicking Help fails, raising a message box with the
  title Error and the message:

Could not display help document 'user-guide'
The specified location is not supported

This occurs when right-clicking the panel and clicking Help in any of the
following places:
  (1) the top panel, in blank space (it should bring up help topic Using the
Panels)
  (2) the top panel, on a menu (it should bring up the help topic Using the
Main Menubar)
  (3) the bottom panel, on the Show Desktop button (it should bring up the help
topic Show Desktop Button)
  (4) the bottom panel, in blank space (it should bring up the help topic
Using the Panels)
  (5) the bottom panel, in the desktop switcher (it should bring up the help
topic Workspaces)

When I right-click the bottom panel on the trash can icon and click
Help, I get a similar, but different, error. Instead of loading help
topic Panel Trash Manual in yelp, a message box with no title is
  raised, with the message:

There was an error displaying help: The specified location is not
  supported

The two different error message boxes (for the trash can, and for
everything else) are also of different styles. I will attach images of
each. Besides the information provided by the images, they also differ
in that the message box for everything except the trash can appears in
the taskbar, and the message box for the trash can doesn't.

Note that clicking System Help and Support or clicking System About
Ubuntu both still work fine, as does loading the help browser manually
- by running the command yelp.
+ by running the command yelp or running the command gnome-help.

I have tried quitting the GNOME Panel (killall gnome-panel) and re-
running it in a terminal -- when the errors occur, no output is printed
  to the command line.

I have tried, and failed, to reproduce this bug on a Maverick i386
  system.

I am unsure if I am reporting this bug in the correct package. However,
the error messages seem to belong to gnome-panel. Yelp is not running
- when the error messages are displayed. Perhaps I should instead be
- reporting this bug in yelp (2.30.2-0ubuntu1), ubuntu-docs (10.10.4), or
- gnome-user-guide (2.30.0+git20100403ubuntu2).
+ when the error messages are displayed (i.e. ps x doesn't reveal any
+ running instances of a process called yelp or gnome-help). Perhaps I
+ should instead be reporting this bug in yelp (2.30.2-0ubuntu1), ubuntu-
+ docs (10.10.4), or gnome-user-guide (2.30.0+git20100403ubuntu2).

This bug report is superficially similar to a bug report on Red Hat
  Bugzilla (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=595650) --
however, these are NOT the same bug, as in that bug, the problem was
that gnome-panel 'Failed to execute child process gnome-help (No such
file or directory)'. That is not the case here, and gnome-help exists in
/usr/bin on my system. I mention that bug report only to reduce
confusion, since it comes up in a Google search for the error message in
  this bug.

[Bug 672873] Re: Installed GSettings schemas not detected on PowerPC

2010-12-29 Thread Jochen Fahrner
unsound, there is something broken with your .deb package. After
installation through ubuntu software center, there is something broken
in software center that should be repaired. But software center always
gives the same error and goes into an endless loop, asking to repair
again and again. I aborted this repair, and now update manager sees an
update for the glib package. When letting update manager install this
update, I have the old version of glib again. How can I get rid of this
old package in update manager?

[Bug 695260] Re: gnome-panel help cannot be displayed

2010-12-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
Well, this is odd. Even though right-clicking on the GNOME Panel and
clicking Help fails to bring up the Using the Panels help topic,
running this command (which is the same command that gnome-panel
executes to achieve this effect, at least on Maverick) is successful:

gnome-help ghelp:user-guide?gospanel-1

Furthermore, to bring up the Panel Trash Manual help topic, this
command (the one that gnome-panel executes automatically, at least on
Maverick) is successful:

gnome-help ghelp:trashapplet

Perhaps gnome-panel is using the wrong names for the help pages. I don't
know why those names, as coded into gnome-panel, would have changed in
Natty though, given that the correct names don't appear to have changed
in Natty (since Maverick).

started giving out this error.

It's persistent over brasero restart so could be the be somewhere else?

[Bug 695325] Re: Wrong set of receiving email path (maildir format) after imported backups from previous evolution version

2010-12-29 Thread marco.pallotta
The question seems related to the fact that the new home folder is
different /home/marco instead of /home/marcop (which was in 8.04). In
fact with new home path address book personal contacts aren't loaded
correctly (evolution says that it cannot access
/home/marcop/...) too.

At this point the bug is present if the backup/restore tool is just
intended to be used to migrate from one system to another but leaving
the same home path.

** Summary changed:

[Bug 685944] Re: incorrect symbols

2010-12-29 Thread Naumov Michael
Partly, bug is reproducible.

For example, today I run an empathy. While I was offline, I was
requested by one of ICQ users. Than I recieved a message from him. And
this request and message is unreadable. It comtents symbols like these:
êàêîé âîïðîñ? ÿ íàïèñàë: äîáàâü ìåíÿ, ýòî Æåêà Áàëàíäèí. But it isn't
Russian language, like: Здравствуйте, к Вам пришел запрос на
авторизацию.

Sometimes this problem was seen. But sometimes not.

[Bug 49579] Re: screen doesn't lock when panel menu is open

2010-12-29 Thread Sam Brightman
This issue is also a problem when using synergy for input device
sharing, or virtual machines (see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=569830). In addition, there
is a significant delay whilst the screen is locked, during which time
input is still accepted and could be used maliciously. It is a security
issue and should be fixed.

I think the attitude of the gnome-screensaver team is clear from their
FAQ:

Why doesn't my screen lock when I'm logged in as root?

gnome-screensaver will blank the screen but will not lock. This is for
security reasons. Seriously, it is very unwise to login as root in the
first place. Try logging in as an unprivileged user and using sudo or su
instead.

This is INSANE. Deliberately create an even bigger problem to force
people to do things your way?!

[Bug 672873] Re: Installed GSettings schemas not detected on PowerPC

2010-12-29 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
That's because unsound's package doesn't use a version name that is
superior to Maverick's. It should be 2.26.0-0ubuntu1+bigendian, or
something like that. As a general rule, using the very same version as
an existing package is not a good idea.

[Bug 682102] Re: Brasero says Not enough space available on the disc even when data to be burned is well within the limits and Gnome-Baker burns the DVD all right.

2010-12-29 Thread Tvrtko Ursulin
I was desperate so even tried a reboot (and power cycle) but the problem
persists. What is so puzzling is that it managed to record three DVDs
initially. With first one I had slow burning speed issue which I
resolved by fiddling with wodim and growisofs plugins priority as
documented on the web (took me some time until I found there are two
parallel configuration systems). Next two it recorded flawlessly so why
all the sudden this space issue?

I then installed k3b which works just fine.

[Bug 673588] Re: Yelp fails to launch

2010-12-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
I no longer experience this problem on my i386 Lubuntu Natty Alpha 1
system. Yelp now launches successfully (and runs smoothly). Presumably,
some update (to something) fixed it.

My system is now running yelp 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 (a later version than when
I last tested it). Furthermore, I now *do* have xulrunner-2.0 installed
(package version 2.0~b8+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1). I don't recall that
having been installed before (when I made my earlier comments to this
bug report). But I didn't actually say I didn't have it, so I cannot be
sure. I didn't install it manually, so if I really didn't have it at
that time, then it must have been installed automatically as part of the
installation or upgrading of some package (maybe yelp, maybe something
else).

The lubuntu-desktop package now depends on xulrunner-2.0. Since this bug
was only happening on my Lubuntu system, perhaps that was an (accidental
or intentional) fix for this. But I don't think so. The ubuntu-desktop
package doesn't depend on (or even recommend or suggest) xulrunner-2.0.

I wish I'd had the presence of mind to indicate in my earlier comments
whether or not xulrunner-2.0 was installed on my system.

[Bug 433504] Re: yelp crashed with SIGSEGV in rrn_info_get_categories()

2010-12-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
I am experiencing this bug as well (yelp package version
2.30.1-0ubuntu1), on an Lubuntu Maverick amd64 system. This system was
created by installing the lubuntu-desktop package on an existing Xubuntu
Maverick amd64 system (so xubuntu-desktop is installed too), which was
itself upgraded from Xubuntu Lucid amd64. So my system is much like K.
Deniz Ogut's system--both systems are running Maverick, upgraded from
Lucid.

(In case it's relevant: I also have the ubuntu-desktop package
installed, so that I can use the standard GNOME interface from time to
time.)

My locale is US English (UTF-8). It does not seem that this bug is
locale-dependent.

If requested, I will attach crash data produced by Apport.

[Bug 433504] Re: yelp crashed with SIGSEGV in rrn_info_get_categories()

2010-12-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
This bug appears similar to Bug 644025, except that in that bug, yelp
loads (but displays invalid characters), and then crashes when the
home button is clicked. (Inspection of the stack traces reveals the
possible similarity.)

This bug (and that one) also appear similar to the old bug 375986. That
bug is filed against the package rarian, which provides
/usr/lib/librarian.so.0 (see this bug's stack trace). Since that old bag
appears to be fixed, my guess is that this is not (quite) the same as
that.

(I'll go ahead and comment on those other two bugs to indicate the
similarity.)

[Bug 672873] Re: Installed GSettings schemas not detected on PowerPC

2010-12-29 Thread unsound
Well, it wasn't meant to be a final permanent solution anyway. I just wanted to
demontrate that the patch does fix the problem.
I was hoping that these changes could make it into an updated maverick package
without much delay.

I can update the package with a new version number to fix this problem,
if you think it's worth it. However, I think any effort should be
focused on publishing an official update with this patch applied. It's
almost three months overdue... how do we accelerate the process?

[Bug 660225] Re: Totem does not play WMV from click and drag

2010-12-29 Thread Shunsuke Akagi
It is not limited to a specific file. It can happen to any WMV file possibly
even AVI file.
If you drug any WMV file and drop into TOTEM, it would happen.
Another case is that when you drug a folder that contains WMV file and drop
into TOTEM, Totem would not play either.

[Bug 673588] Re: Yelp fails to launch

2010-12-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
I just set up a Natty i386 command line system (using the Natty Alpha 1
i386 Alternate Install CD -- it's an option when you press F4 in the
boot menu). Using aptitude, I updated the system, and then installed
yelp (and its dependencies). I made lists of packages installed before
and after the installation of yelp (with dpkg -l) -- I'll attach those
lists. Then I installed openssh-server, logged in with ssh -X from
another system, and ran yelp. It launched and did not crash, and once I
installed ubuntu-docs, it even worked perfectly. (And xulrunner-2.0 was
not one of the packages that was installed, at any point.)

So:
(1) You're not experiencing this bug anymore, since an update.
(2) I'm not experiencing this bug anymore, presumably since some later update.
(3) Installing yelp on a command-line system is functional, so if this bug is
the result of yelp insufficiently declaring dependencies, then that's fixed too.

Therefore, if you have no objection, I think we should mark this bug as
fixed.

[Bug 657475] Re: touchpad pointer freezed at gdm

2010-12-29 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We need some more information from you before we can
start working on this bug.

Please run the following command which will attach necessary
information:

apport-collect BUGNUMBER

Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib
package from the universe repository with 'sudo apt-get install python-
launchpadlib'. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report.

If you are using an older release or cannot use apport please at least add the
following information (pay attention to lspci's additional options):
First run the following commands:
1) uname -a uname-a.log
2) dmesg dmesg.log
3) sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log
4) cat /proc/version_signature version.log
then attach the files separately to the bug report (not pasted into comments or
tar/zip-ed).

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies. Thanks in
advance!

[Bug 695426] [NEW] EOG opening with wrong dimensions

2010-12-29 Thread Steven Depp
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Screen format = 16/10, eog opens at format 4/3 or so and therefore
window height goes off-screen and picture too big.

The height of the opening EOG window should not be proportional to the
window width. Instead, both the window's height and width should be
derived from the screen's height and width and never exceed them.

Examples:
(data is all made up for clear understanding and is not the result of precise
measurements).
today, Screen=1600*1000, EOG opens with dimension 1600*1200.
It should open 1600*1000 maximum.

Thanks for reading.

you can start a terminal(ctrl+alt+t) and start gnome-panel from there to get
going.

Desktop / Panels dont start on first login

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
   Incomplete

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm not sure if this actually belongs to nautilus, feel free to change the
 package.

 Steps to reproduce:

 1) Start computer
 2) Choose Ubuntu Classic Desktop
 3) Login

 What you expected to happen:

The classis desktop is shown with two panels.

 What happened instead:

Only the wallpaper is shown, the panels are not there. Sometimes,
a notification that the wireless network is connected appears.

This happens every time I login. I can then go to a terminal (with
 Ctr-Alt-F1),
restart gdm and login again. This time, it works

totem 2.32 in Ubuntu 10.10 works fine with drag and drop here

It is not limited to a specific file. It can happen to any WMV file
 possibly even AVI file.
If you drug any WMV file and drop into TOTEM, it would happen.
Another case is that when you drug a folder that contains WMV file and drop
into TOTEM, Totem would not play either.

Totem does not show video when I click and drag single WMV into totem.
If I choose multiple WMV or other video files then go back to the first WMV
that was not seen can be seen probably.
When I double-click the WMV file, it would work fine.

[Bug 692980] Re: Layout switcher does not switch by shortcut

2010-12-29 Thread vestel
Similar behaviour found:

To previously mentioned list - USA, Rus, Jpn I add Finnish (Fin).

Switching by keyboard shortcut is not working.

I'm adding Right Windows button to layout switching methods. It works to
switch - USA - Rus - Jpn - Fin and than not working again.

Left Ctrl + Left Shift working OK.
