The drivers are the primary reason this isn't working for some people.
Some touchpads are scaling inputs incorrectly, resulting in very low
velocity pressures. This should not prevent it from working for these
people, but it does make revealing take a bit more effort than intended.

the Available to all users-checkbox is greyed out, since only entries
that exhibit this have a greyed out Save button (or perhaps these two
symptoms just always appear simultaneously).

I am attaching bold-arabic.odt, which has two Arabic words in bold that
display as hollow rectangles.
apport-collect gets stuck, most likely because it is being run behind a
proxy. I have yet to find a solution.
