Hi, I'm wondering if this issue still happened while using Precise(12.04) kernel. From what I heard, this issue might result from that kernel didn't send out the drm ready event. So, it's possible that this issue is fixed by the newer kernel. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/873495 Title: LightDM fails to start when installed in OEM mode after nvidia-current or nvidia-current-updates are installed Status in Light Display Manager: New Status in NVIDIA Drivers Ubuntu: New Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Occurs reliably on fast Sandy Bridge hardware with a fast GPU - GTX 485M, GTX 560M or GTX 580M. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 985119] Re: Sound Recorder does not record sound
In this machine I have, by chance, also got gnome classic login session available. I notice that in sound settings, using gnome classic desktop environment, the mode using 'Analogue stereo Output', works ok. However, in Unity, only 'Analogue stereo duplex' (not 'Analogue stereo Output') is offered and this does not work, (and in other earlier versions of Ubuntu over the years, has never worked in these three different machines). It seems to me to be significant that the particular setting is not offered, or is not recognised. I attach a couple of screenshots of sound settings, one of unity, the other in the gnome classic desktop in this machine. ** Attachment added: showing 'Analogue stereo Output' availablity (works) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/985119/+attachment/3092584/+files/gnomeclassic-2-Screenshot%20from%202012-04-19%2006%3A50%3A14.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/985119 Title: Sound Recorder does not record sound Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 12.04 beta2 updated to date In three different machines: Play 'Examples' audio files, or play bbc radio live streams, and click Record button in Sound Recorder. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 57784] Re: after xrandr desktop icons can go missing
I hate to say it, but this bug is more than 10 YEARS old see: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47943 By using upstream components you get upstream problems, although downstream it also haven't been fixed yet. It still affects us on Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04 LTS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/57784 Title: after xrandr desktop icons can go missing Status in Nautilus: Confirmed Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: nautilus 1) Do xrandr -o left 2) Enjoy your rotated desktop for a bit. Make sure to move some icons to the bottom of the screen. 3) Get bored of this. 4) xrandr -o normal. The icons that you moved to the bottom are gone now. You have no way to get them back except clean up by name. When the size of the desktop changes nautilus should bring the icons back within the limits of the desktop. After some reboots and reconnects and disabling every netwerk tool with 'rfkill block/unblock all' i manage to gain a connection that gives me internet to. I'm sure it ist the wifi itself because all the other people that use it have internet. Aditional info: jonas@Flaptop:~$ uname -r 3.2.0-23-generic If there is a manual fix, please tell me. I know my way around in the terminal :) Thanks in advance! [Desktop-packages] [Bug 882691] Re: Kubuntu can't turn on Wi-Fi on Acer Aspire One AOA101
rfkill list says your wifi is blocked by acer-wireless, that's why it's shown as disabled. Wicd probably ignores this as the wifi card itself (phy0) is not blocked. So in fact it's a bug in the kernel's acer-wmi module. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 985449] [NEW] unity-2d launcher behind a full screen window
Public bug reported: Not exactly a show-stopper bug ... I have a terminal window, not maximazed, but full screen. I'm using Unity-2D+metacity, with composite support is switched on. The terminal window is semi-transparent. Now, if I move the mouse to the left side of the screen, I can see (through the semi transparent window) that Unity-2D's launcher is shown (it's configured for auto-hide). I guess it's a problem, since in case of a full screen window, I wouldn't except that anything other is activated if I move the mouse through the screen, as the screen is filled with a full screen window, so no other thing should be involved. The only problem I have with this: if I switch workspace then, unity-2d's launcher is still shown, so I have to move the mouse pointer on it, and then remove so it can be hidden, which is a bit annoying to do all the time, as I would like auto-hide ... Indeed, Alacarte is a menu editor for the GNOME desktop but the Gnome-Panel and the Xfce-Panel are not the only one with a Gnome-Menu (e.g. made with libgnome-menu). Cairo-Dock (but I'm sure there is also other applications) also uses libgnome-menu in order to have a Gnome-Menu-like and we can use Cairo-Dock without Gnome/XFCE Panel. But Alacarte needs gnome-desktop-item-edit or exo-desktop-item-edit (only on XFCE sessions) to edit .desktop. Is it maybe possible to move 'gnome-desktop-item-edit' in a new package? I think it's the best solution if we want to edit menus with Alacarte on a Cairo-Dock session without installing all dependences of gnome-panel. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 972484] [NEW] lightdm-gtk-greeter doesn't set language for non-local users
You have been subscribed to a public bug: We have an environment where several users use different languages but share machines which use LDAP/Kerberos/NFS. In the previous LTS, the default display manager (GDM) provided a menu which would allow setting the language to use for a session, and would remember the previous setting (using ~/.dmrc). This appears to no longer work with lightdm in 12.04, and no menu is provided by default. However, a menu can be enabled for lightdm-gtk-greeter (1.1.4-0ubuntu1). Unfortunately, the language choice doesn't get used. I have the same problem if accountsservice (0.6.15-2ubuntu9) is enabled or not. The following is logged by lightdm when using accountsservice: [+117.92s] DEBUG: Continue authentication [+117.92s] DEBUG: Session 1719 got 1 message(s) from PAM [+117.92s] DEBUG: Prompt greeter with 1 message(s) [+127.62s] DEBUG: Continue authentication [+127.67s] DEBUG: Session 1719 authentication complete with return value 0: Success [+127.67s] DEBUG: Authenticate result for user phillipsa: Success [+127.68s] DEBUG: User phillipsa authorized [+127.68s] DEBUG: Greeter sets language fr [+127.69s] WARNING: Could not call SetLanguage: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Accounts.Error.Failed: not access to HOME yet so language not saved [+127.69s] DEBUG: Greeter requests session gnome-fallback [+127.69s] DEBUG: Using session gnome-fallback [+127.69s] DEBUG: Stopping greeter [+127.69s] DEBUG: Session 1570: Sending SIGTERM [+127.71s] DEBUG: Greeter closed communication channel [+127.71s] DEBUG: Session 1570 exited with return value 0 [+127.71s] DEBUG: Greeter quit [+127.72s] WARNING: Could not call SetXSession: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method SetXSession with signature s on interface org.freedesktop.Accounts.User doesn't exist [+127.74s] DEBUG: Dropping privileges to uid 32000 [+127.74s] DEBUG: Restoring privileges [+127.76s] DEBUG: Dropping privileges to uid 32000 [+127.76s] DEBUG: Writing /net/cmo/home/phillipsa/.dmrc [+127.76s] DEBUG: Restoring privileges [+127.76s] DEBUG: Starting session gnome-fallback as user phillipsa [+127.76s] DEBUG: Session 1719 running command /usr/sbin/lightdm-session gnome-session --session=gnome-fallback [+127.79s] DEBUG: Registering session with bus path /org/freedesktop/DisplayManager/Session0 I understand that the new place for the language to be stored is in ~/.pam_environment, but the file does not get touched, rather ~/.dmrc does. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 972484] Re: lightdm-gtk-greeter doesn't set language for non-local users
Hi, Thanks for your bug report. [+127.69s] WARNING: Could not call SetLanguage: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Accounts.Error.Failed: not access to HOME yet so language not saved Might be a bug in accountservices, or the way lightdm uses it. Reassigning to lightdm, and hopefully someone will know better where the issue is. ** Package changed: lightdm-gtk-greeter (Ubuntu) = lightdm (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/972484 Title: lightdm-gtk-greeter doesn't set language for non-local users Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: We have an environment where several users use different languages but share machines which use LDAP/Kerberos/NFS. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 908508]
(In reply to David Mandelin from comment #102) This is getting really confusing--I feel like I need to back up a few steps. Yes, i'm also confused. 1. First off, do you still need to leave out the executableAllocators in jscntxt.h? If you have the JITs now, then it seems like you don't even need to patch jscntxt.h. I'm going to assume you do, and continue, but if we don't need to do anything, that would be great. There are platforms where there's no JIT (and hence no ExecutableAllocator), for example sparc64 macppc/sysv abi. So we have to #ifdef ENABLE_ASSEMBLER out the execAlloc uses. 2. Second, if possible, it'd be nice to do something small and simple that just fixes the immediate problem. The immediate problem, IIUC, is that you can't have the executableAllocators in JSContext, and #ifdef ENABLE_ASSEMBLER in jscntxt.h doesn't work. So, what about just providing a dummy class for ExecutableAllocator on SPARC? Would that work? You could put it in a .cpp file guarded by !ENABLE_ASSEMBLER. To me, the immediate problem is that i've a diff that works, but it breaks some tests in subtle ways just because ENABLE_ASSEMBLER=1 is not propagated anymore under shell/ with my diff. ExecutableAllocator.h has the arch-dependant machinery, and it #errors out on the archs we care about in this bug report.. because (at least!) there's no implementation for 'cacheFlush', which seems to require writing some low-level asm, and i have no idea if it can be made a nop. x86/x86_64 provides an empty implementation, but iirc i tried adding ppc to also use that empty implem and it failed to build. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to thunderbird in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/908508 Title: Firefox/Thunderbird 10 FTBFS on powerpc in js/src/yarr/pcre Status in The Mozilla Firefox Browser: In Progress Status in “firefox” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “thunderbird” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Debian has the fix, so I'll add it to the branch and it should work with the next upload. There are platforms where there's no JIT (and hence no ExecutableAllocator), for example sparc64 macppc/sysv abi. So we have to #ifdef ENABLE_ASSEMBLER out the execAlloc uses. OK. Good to know. Sure, but if we try to get ENABLE_ASSEMBLER=1 propagated, it seems like it's going to involve either a gross hack, or a lot of work to redo the options everywhere. So I was looking for an easier way first. ExecutableAllocator.h has the arch-dependant machinery, and it #errors out on the archs we care about in this bug report.. because (at least!) there's no implementation for 'cacheFlush', which seems to require writing some low-level asm, and i have no idea if it can be made a nop. Which archs do have a problem? It looks like there is an implementation for SPARC. We're still missing PPC, I guess. x86/x86_64 provides an empty implementation, but iirc i tried adding ppc to also use that empty implem and it failed to build. I think an empty implementation should build on PPC. Whether it's correct, I don't know, but it only matters if using the JITs. The cacheFlush implementation I have for OS X/ppc is OS X specific and calls sys_icache_invalidate() which is provided by the kernel. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 962860] Re: The prompt for installing MP3 playback support dialogue box does not fit in a 1024x600 display
Fixing the bug by changing the text is not the correct way. What is happening here is that the label is not wrapping which makes the frame be too big. If we changed the text we would just be fixing the eng version (I do agree that the proposed text is better). I propose to fix the bug by making the text wrap which will ensure that the widget uses the correct size and will be fix the issue for all langs. Also, doing that will not require a UIFe because we are talking about a bug and we are not being a PITA to the translators. (In reply to comment #1) It's a shame that Writer doesn't support rotating of images (Impress and Draw do). No. From my point of view it a shame to duplicate functionalities between modules. You can do everything you may want on your images in Draw (or Gimp if you prefer). No need to modify them in Writer. Writer is a text processor, not a drawing software. @Jean-Baptiste: Like cropping and resizing also rotating of images is IMHO an absolute core functionality of a word processor. However, in terms of duplication, you are absolutely right. Writer is a text processor, not a drawing software. Please, keep it as light as possible. Best regards. JBF Actually, rotating an image is an extremely basic task and should be available in writer. Of course everybody expects to see that implemented when all the following image enhancement options are already available in Writer: - Invert - Smooth - Sharpen - Remove noise - Solarisation - Ageing - Posterise - Pop art - Charcoal sketch - Relief - Mosaic - Greyscale - Black and white - Watermark - Change colours, brightness, contrast, gamma - Transparency - Flip horizontally or vertically And no rotating ?? How can you justify that? I understand if you argue about the necessity to have options like pop art or charcoal sketch available in writer, but a functionality as basic as rotating is a must have. Just to give an example: today, I was having a look at my new photos, and rotating them with the F-spot viewer. When I added one of those photos to a document in Writer later on, the image wasn't rotated. As an average user, I don't know why Writer didn't take into account the modifications I already made, and I probably don't want to look into it. The only thing I want is an easy way to rotate it directly in Writer, without having to use another specialised software for such a simple task, interfering with my workflow.
