[Desktop-packages] [Bug 949097] Re: Serial Wacom Tablet touch not in absolute mode when logged in
Hmm, that's odd. The scripts is being executed (after I removed the stuff you accidentally placed after #!/bin/bash). I tested it by replacing the xsetwacom part with mkdir /home/tomas/itsworking. I know little about Linux, but I guess it could be that, for example, (i) the problem is somewhere in the code that is being executed after your scripts or (ii) the script is being executed before the Wacom stuff is initialised, i.e. xsetwacom is not properly recognised. I'll see if I can come up with a working workaround. Will let you know if I find something. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/949097 Title: Serial Wacom Tablet touch not in absolute mode when logged in Status in Xf86 Input Wacom: Fix Released Status in “gnome-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “xf86-input-wacom” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: lsb_release -d: Description: Ubuntu precise (development branch) Output of : xinput list ⎡ Virtual core pointerid=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouse id=11 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad id=12 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Serial Wacom Tablet stylus id=13 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Serial Wacom Tablet eraser id=15 [slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Serial Wacom Tablet touch id=16 [slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Buttonid=6[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Sleep Buttonid=8[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HP HD Webcam [Fixed]id=9[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboardid=10 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ HP WMI hotkeys id=14 [slave keyboard (3)] Output of: xinput_calibrator --list Device Serial Wacom Tablet stylus id=13 Device Serial Wacom Tablet eraser id=15 The touchscreen works properly when I'm at the LightDM screen, but fails once I log into a session. After the update I cannot resolve hostnames reliably: I use Konsole in Unity. There sometimes the DNS resolving works fine and suddenly after two commands or so it fails for the same address. E.g. I ping a machine without DNS-Suffix (the suffix is shown in my network config correctly aside 3 valid nameserver IPs) and everything works fine. Then I try to log into the machine with the same address via ssh and I get a Name or service not known. Trying again, it works with a fully qualified name containing the suffix. I also had cases, when the IP wasn't resolved although I put in the fully qualified name. When I am more lucky, it starts working again with machine names only (without suffix, which is configured and worked perfectly up to now) Is there probably a bug in the new Ubuntu Version? [Desktop-packages] [Bug 991962] Re: empathy shows multiple popups in gnome 3
I may also add that the bug seems to happen on every facebook chat instance while only on chat I started on google talk. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991962 Title: empathy shows multiple popups in gnome 3 Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: What happens : With gnome-shell, a popup saying I have X message, then again, with the ability to respond. If I open the bottom-right hand notification area, it shows the person's avatar and the number of missed im's. It also creates a new icon for empathy itself that seems to just bring the app forward. If I open the contact's chat log in gnome-shell, the unread indicator goes away and it shows the built-in chat log, but the empathy icon does not. If I click the icon, it opens the empathy window holding that chat, bringing it to the front. Expected: the empathy icon should never showed up, so only the built-in gnome-shell chat interface should be in the notification area. Other info: It seems that this only happens when empathy isn't in the front. It seems to be sending the receive message and respond message over (I'm assuming) dmesg or the like. This may be an upstream bug, I am not sure. I just updated to 12.04: Empathy is 3.4.1-0ubuntu1 gnome-shell is 3.4.1-0ubuntu2 Originally, I thought this was like bug #920382, but after rereading and reading up on #921168, I see it isn't. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 994486] [NEW] global alt-f1 shortcut resets after system restart
Public bug reported: As far as I can tell the the default behaviour when pressing ALT+F1 in 12.04 is to highlight the Dash Home button in the launcher, allowing for selection between locked and open applications using the arrow keys and return. I would however prefer to customise this keyboard shortcut to something else (gnome-terminal). Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to System Setting Keyboard Shortcuts Custom Shortcuts and add an entry by pressing +(Name: Terminal, Command: gnome-terminal) 2. Click the text disabled on the Terminal row 3. Press ALT+F1 4. Verify that ALT-F1 opens the terminal window 5. Restart the PC 6. Look in: System Setting Keyboard Shortcuts Custom Shortcuts - looks like custom shortcut is still set. 7. Press ALT+F1 = dash home is highlighted, no terminal is opened By clicking the Terminal row in Custom shortcuts and pressing apply it seems like the shortcut is rewritten to produce a terminal window, but doing this after every restart seems ridiculous. I'm not sure if this problem lies specifically with gnome-control- center.. I suspect that other standard shortcuts be affected in a similar way. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 994505] [NEW] Calendar (Google) not responding after a while and Evolution hangs
Public bug reported: When I start Evolution in the morning everything with the Google calendar thing works just fine. After a few hours Evolution works fine but when I click on the Calendar button which would lead me to the Calendar overview in which I have my default calendar referring to Google calendar Evolution gets grey and hangs. Now closing and restarting Evolution does not help, kill the evolution main process does not help either. I hope this helps and thank you for your work. cue ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: evolution 3.2.3-0ubuntu6 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.38-generic 3.2.16 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 Date: Fri May 4 12:20:35 2012 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Alpha amd64 (20120319) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: evolution UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/994505/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

** Changed in: gnome-terminal Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/328575 Title: [gnome-terminal SRU] Cannot start gnome-terminal (or x-terminal- emulator) because of gconf error Status in D-Bus: In Progress Status in The GConf Registry System: New Status in GNOME Terminal: Fix Released Status in “gconf2” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “gconf2” source package in Jaunty: Invalid Status in “gnome-terminal” source package in Jaunty: Fix Released Status in Debian GNU/Linux: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal IMPACT: gnome-terminal will fail to launch under any circumstance where gconfd isn't already running. This can include `sudo gnome- terminal` (since no gconfd is running for root), or starting gnome- terminal under a non-GNOME window manager. DEVELOPMENT: The Debian maintainer added 02_let_gconf_autostart.patch in 2.26.2-2 to solve this issue (debbugs #531734). That version has been merged into Karmic. PATCH: Patch available at http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30671489 /gnome-terminal_2.26.0-0ubuntu2.1.debdiff, with test builds in https://launchpad.net/~broder/+archive/ubuntu-tests. The upstream gnome-terminal maintainer rejected the patch used for 02_let_gconf_autostart.patch, because it reintroduced gnome-bugs #561663. The attached patch instead cherry-picks the commit the maintainer added to fix this bug upstream. INSTRUCTIONS: Attempt to run `sudo gnome-terminal`. It will exit with Failed to contact the GConf daemon; exiting. REGRESSION: Seems limited - this is a cherry-pick of an upstream change that only changes a handful of lines. Original bug description: I cannot start gnome-terminal. If I open an xterm and start gnome- terminal from the command line, here is what I get: $ sudo gnome-terminal Failed to contact the GConf daemon; exiting. (original report didn't have sudo in this command, but a later comment by the submitter amended this.) $ ps ax | grep gconf 3956 pts/0R+ 0:00 grep gconf 6643 ?S 0:00 /usr/lib/pulseaudio/pulse/gconf-helper 6647 ?S 0:06 /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2 This is in Jaunty Alpha 4 with all updates current as of 12 Feb. This bug is now understood. Read all the comments (or at least try some text searches) before adding your own, because a lot of things have already been covered. summary of some stuff posted in comments: gnome-terminal on purpose refuses to start if it can't connect to gconfd to get its config settings. gconf clients now find the server using DBUS. Starting gnome- terminal as root doesn't work even when you have all the gnome bits and pieces running under your account, because DBUS is per-user. executive of summary: We know what is going on. Everything that doesn't work is a consequence of the design. Everything is working as designed, although obviously there are problems with this design. Discussion about the design probably belongs on freedesktop-bugs #17970 (link in the remote bug sidebar). Workarounds to use until the bugs are fixed: for the gconfd-not-running case: start gconfd. e.g. add /usr/bin/gnome-settings-daemon to your X session startup script, ahead of any gnome-terminal commands. This applies whatever window manager you happen to be using. (except if you're using Ubuntu's default GNOME desktop, which already starts gconfd itself.) multiple tabs over ssh: use screen(1) $ sudo aptitude install screen screen-profiles # if you don't have it already The default config has unhelpful keybindings. I'm used to ^t as the command key, and F11/F12 as next/previous tab (screen calls them windows). I set up my own .screenrc before screen-profiles was packaged, so I don't know if its examples and samples are good or not. If you insist on displaying a GUI over X11 over ssh, there are other terminal emulators with tabs, e.g. the lighter-weight mrxvt. (be careful, though: it doesn't support UTF-8.) You might also investigate ssh -M for connection sharing. As I understand it, this lets you tunnel multiple sessions over one SSH connection, so only one password prompt... You could presumably get a local gnome-terminal going with ssh connections in each tab. root shells: You can use sudo inside a gnome terminal that's running under your own account. sudo -s, sudo -i, sudo su, and sudo bash are all variations on getting a shell running as root. If you don't know which to pick, use sudo -s. Or, better, don't start a root shell, and simply use sudo or gksudo on the one or two commands that need it. This bug is partly that gconf requires DBUS, which breaks some

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 272324] Re: Share name is incorrectly marked as an optional field in Places Connect To Server Windows share, which causes unclear error when connecting
** Changed in: nautilus Status: New = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272324 Title: Share name is incorrectly marked as an optional field in Places Connect To Server Windows share, which causes unclear error when connecting Status in Nautilus: Expired Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: nautilus It is possible to open smb://servername/ in nautilus. It then shows the available 'windows' shares... But, it is not supported by nautilus-connect-server to type *only* the windows server name and hit connect. You get a error message saying Can't display location smb://localhost/ - No application is registered as handling this file. This is not very user friendly. See screenshots attached. I understand it is not possible to connect the server itself -- you require to specify a sharename as well. So, I propose one of these solutions: 1) Introduce markings that indicate which fields are required, and show a dialog saying you have to enter the share name in case of connecting to a windows share 2) Add functionality that allows you to select the sharename you want to connect As a side note. I think from the name connect to server it is quite unclear what the tool does for the uninitiated. Perhaps Access network filesystem is a better description to use in the Places menu.
