Question about OpenOffice Porting Guide

2024-01-03 Thread liuxin
Hi!

I am currently in the process of porting OpenOffice and came across this wiki
article: https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Lazy_Hackers_Guide_To_Porting

While following the guide, I encountered a challenge in Section 7. It seems
that I am unable to locate the file automation/source/testtool/objtest.cxx.
Could anyone kindly guide me on the correct location for this file? Also, is
there any more information about porting & compiling?

Thanks!

Re: Question on Apache OpenOffice

2023-08-21 Thread Matthias Seidel

Hi,

Both programs should install side by side because they use different
default install locations.

However, the LibreOffice shell extensions could be overwritten by Apache
OpenOffice, so I would suggest to do a "Custom Install" and deselect the
"Windows Explorer Extension" found under "Optional Components".

Re: Question on Apache OpenOffice

2023-08-21 Thread Pedro Lino
Good evening from Portugal!

The short answer is yes. You can install OpenOffice now. Both will work.

However there will be a "fight" to be associated with normal office file types
(such as Open Document, Word, Excel, etc)

This means that when you open a Word file with one Office (be it OpenOffice,
LibreOffice or MS Office) it will become associated with this suite and to open
with another one you will have to deliberately use the "Open with" option.

If this acceptable then you can use multiple Office suites. If this is
confusing then it is better to uninstall the one(s) you don't use so much.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Pedro Lino

While browsing through Bugzilla I sometimes find issues that were fixed
in a certain release without knowing that an issue existed. Then I
change them to FIXED and set the milestone accordingly,

They do show up in the list now. This does not happen very often, but I
am OK with that.

So it seems the list_id may be a saved result, meaning if something
happens to an issue that would change the search result list it would
not be updated when using the list_id in a URL.
You have to do a new search or not include the list_id in the URL to get

At least that is the way I'm understanding it.

Now my questions is:
When we provide a URL like this in a release blog post or announcement

not include it so each user gets an up-to-date result?

For example, if an issue is changed from fixed to reopened, do we want

as we present a software release which is fix when published, so it

Bugzilla list_id parameter in URL question

2022-04-21 Thread Carl Marcum

Hi All,

Does anyone know what the list_id parameter is for in the URL after a
search?

For example:

If I do an advanced search for issues fixed in 4.1.12 milestone I get
this for a URL:

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/buglist.cgi?list_id=249822&query_format=advanced&resolution=FIXED&resolution=FIXED_WITHOUT_CODE&target_milestone=4.1.12

If I do it again I get a different list_id.
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/buglist.cgi?list_id=249823&query_format=advanced&resolution=FIXED&resolution=FIXED_WITHOUT_CODE&target_milestone=4.1.12

If I remove it like this and use it:
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&resolution=FIXED&resolution=FIXED_WITHOUT_CODE&target_milestone=4.1.12
I get a new list_id again.
https://bz.apache.org/ooo/buglist.cgi?list_id=249824&query_format=advanced&resolution=FIXED&resolution=FIXED_WITHOUT_CODE&target_milestone=4.1.12

If I reuse a previous one with the list_id it stays the same.

Are these result lists stored in the database or something?

Best regards,
Carl

Question regarding build.pl

Hello everyone,

I was looking at this build script main/solenv/bin/build.pl and per the
attached screenshot, on line 2611, what does this line do? Was there
supposed to be a substitution operator at this line? Thanks.

Re: Application Start Page Question

2020-11-17 Thread Czesław Wolański
Hi,

First, let me state the obvious.
Extended tips are activated - then in the AOO Center hovering mouse over
one of the six items
(Text document, Spreadsheet etc.) displays an entry from the Help:

"The document icons each open a new document of the specified type."

AOO Help for Start Center:

"(...)
You see the Start Center when no document is open in OpenOffice.
Click an icon to open a new document or a file dialog.
The document icons each open a new document of the specified type.
1. Text Document opens OpenOffice Writer
2. Spreadsheet opens OpenOffice Calc
3. Presentation opens OpenOffice Impress
4. Drawing opens OpenOffice Draw
5. Database opens OpenOffice Base
6. Formula opens OpenOffice Math
The Templates icon opens the Templates and Documents dialog.
The Open icon presents a file open dialog."

I second Jörg's and Matthias' opinions - user comfort (UX) and logic shall
prevail.
Yet it is true that the Start Center per se does not emphasize in any way
the names of components of the Suite.
Who reads the AOO Help or activates the extended tips for good?
(should the latter become context-sensitive).

Just my 2¢.

Based on my experience with LibreOffice, I would call it "a degrade". ;‑)

And on www.openoffice.org/product we have icons next to:
- [Writer](writer.html "Wordprocessor") a word processor you can use for
anything from writing a quick letter to producing an entire book.
  - [Calc](calc.html "Spreadsheet") a powerful spreadsheet with all the tools
you need to calculate, analyze, and present your data in numerical reports
or sizzling graphics.
  - [Impress](impress.html "Presentation program") the fastest, most powerful
way to create effective multimedia presentations.
  - [Draw](draw.html "Vector drawing tool") lets you produce everything from
simple diagrams to dynamic 3D illustrations.
  - [Base](base.html "Database") lets you manipulate databases seamlessly.
Create and modify tables, forms, queries, and reports, all from within
Apache OpenOffice.
  - [Math](math.html "Mathematical function creator") lets you create
mathematical equations with a graphic user interface or by directly typing
your formulas into the equation editor.
It looks like these descriptions need some editing to more consistently tie the
document type with the window type.

But as far as "New" is concerned, the menu is completely called File-New (and
not Window-New) and I find a new file is e.g. a text document. "Writer" would
be the term for a new Writer window, but that would not correspond to the name
of the menu.
This is a possible explanation of the menu, not an explicit defense of the menu.

I've read that you don't suggest any changes, but I'd like to point out: please
let's not spend time on menu changes, in LibreOffice the menu changes are an
absolute nuisance, because you have to search all the time.

Math is Formula

The “New” menu has the same on the drop down.

Hello Peter,

The latest release is 4.1.7

I am not sure what you tried. Have you tried Mark the section you want
to copy, then Menue Edit pick Copy. Open Your Email Application and
insert there as you are used by the email application.

As an Alternative instead going through the menue you can use
Control-Button and C, pressing both at the same time and press then
Control V in the email application.

You can ask this kind of question on users. There you get a quicker answer.

All the Best

to the syntax, yet powerful enough to do many, many interesting things...

As it is a Developer Build the PRODUCTNAME is "OpenOffice Developer Build"

Maybe there is a possibility to get the script recognize the difference?

Currently my Groovy macro is a standalone extension.

We can discuss later after I announce it's information whether it could be
added to the office at
some point or left as a soon-to-be-popular extension ;)

Could you briefly explain what your extension does (e.g. generically allowing
the implementation of
UNO classes/components in Groovy)?

P.S.: AFAIK Groovy uses Apache BSF. If so it may be helpful to look at the
ooRexx ScriptProvider
implementation (which uses Apache BSF and which is based on the BeanShell
implementation of the
ScriptProvider) in case you have not yet implemented the ScriptProvider part
for Groovy.

I'm planning a more formal announcement as soon as I finish the Readme's
for a couple of these but...

There are a few inter-dependent projects.

The Groovy UNO Extension [1] extends the Java UNO API's with convenience
methods for Groovy Extensions and Client apps.

It's documentation is here [2].
It uses Groovy's Extension mechanism to extend the UNO API's.

The OpenOffice-Groovy [3] is the OpenOffice extension to add Groovy to
the scripting framework. It is heavily influenced by the built-in Beanshell.

I'm using Groovy's GroovyShell to evaluate the script [4].
It includes the Groovy UNO Extension.
You can get it on Bintray here [5].

The third project is OpenOffice-Groovy-Macros [6] an extension to add a
lot of the sample macros included in AOO rewritten in Groovy.
Probably more useful copy-paste from github since you can't edit these
from the extension like you can with the built-in macros.

You can get it on Bintray here [7].

I plan to add them to the Extension site after I get some more testing done.

I'm also working on an Extension project generator similar to the
NetBeans plugin but IDE independent.

Not ready to show that one yet.

I have copies of the 4.1.6 UNO jars for use by Maven, Gradle and Groovy
scripts in Bintray [8].

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best regards,
Carl

Yes, this is o.k. (not the problem).

The problem is that in the "Contents" directory there is no "program"
subdirectory in the developer
build, rather it is named "MacOS" instead.

The installation script assumes on the Mac that "soffice" and "unoinfo" are
located in
"/Applications/OpenOffice[ Developer Build].app/Contents/program". (If this is
intentional I would
change the script accordingly.)

> Maybe there is a possibility to get the script recognize the difference?
> (the same would apply to a Beta Build)
>
> @Jim: Could you provide some plain mac builds?
>
> BTW: I always wanted to test your ooRexx extension, Rexx was my first
> "language" on OS/2.

You would be surprised! ;-)

Actually "Object-oriented Rexx" was created as an object-oriented replacement
of "Rexx" for OS/2
Warp by IBM. The Windows version generated quite some income for IBM when their
user base switched
from OS/2 to Windows and learned that there were tons of Rexx programs that
also needed to run on
Windows.

Later IBM handed the source code over to the non-profit SIG "Rexx Language
Association" which then
released an open-source version of it under the name "Open Object Rexx"
(ooRexx) in 2005. Ever since
then it got steadily improved and the current 5.0 (officially in beta but in
release quality)
release is imminent.

The OpenOffice plugin of ooRexx was created using the Java-bridge "BSF4ooRexx"
(Apache BSF and
ooRexx), which also has its roots in OS/2 believe it or not: Java played an
important role for OS/2
and portable (even GUI) applications became possible with the Java bridge such
that Rexx programs
developed under OS/2 ran unchanged on Windows (and vice versa).

Today the Java bridge BSF4ooRexx is bi-directionally complete, i.e. Java
classes and Java objects
are camouflaged as ooRexx classes and objects, sending them ooRexx messages. On
the other hand Java
code can invoke ooRexx methods without realizing that the implementation is
done in ooRexx (e.g.
when extending Java classes in ooRexx or implementing abstract Java methods in
ooRexx).

Like with Rexx ooRexx is a dynamically typed, interpreted language with a
"human-centric" syntax,
such that it can be learned quite fast and programs can be understood quite
easily.

So, if you have interest and a little bit of time, it may be very worthwhile to
look into it.
Creating ooRexx-macros and/or using OpenOffice from ooRexx programs is
straight-forward and quite easy.

P.S.: AFAIK Groovy uses Apache BSF. If so it may be helpful to look at the
ooRexx ScriptProvider
implementation (which uses Apache BSF and which is based on the BeanShell
implementation of the
ScriptProvider) in case you have not yet implemented the ScriptProvider part
for Groovy.

Question ad MacOS 4.2 Developer Build

2020-07-14 Thread Rony G. Flatscher
Hi there,

yesterday I intended to test the ooRexx macro language oxt file against the
MacOS Developer Build
(4.2) to test whether is
fixed.

As the install script that has been working for more than 10 years on OO (and
LO) failed I looked
into the cause and saw that the "soffice" (and "unoinfo") executable now
resides in
"/Applications/OpenOffice Developer Build.app/Contents/*MacOS*/soffice" whereas
it used to be
located in "/Applications/OpenOffice.app/Contents/*program*/soffice".

Is this an oversight/bug or has the directory structure been changed (and if so
on all platforms)?

Hi my name is Ann, I have been using open office for years I love it and
recommend it to anyone, I have always had hp computers that run on windows, I
am interested in getting a google chrome book for myself and am wondering if
open office will download and work the same on a chrome book as on windows if
it don't then I have to buy a laptop my main concern is that open office can be
used the same way on what ever operating system that it does on windows. If you
can please let me know so I can make my purchase of a laptop or a chrome book.
Thanks

officially we don't support Google's Chromebook. Only the operating
systems Windows, macOS and Linux in their native forms.

However, there are other people that have the same question. Please have

RE: Technical question regarding line wrapping with bidirectional text

2018-08-27 Thread Howard Cary Morris
This is how I do it in practice. Open office knows which fonts or parts of
fonts is “rtl” versus “ltr”. So if I want to insert Hebrew in the middle of an
English document, I insert special (Hebrew) characters from the David font into
the document. However, I never tried this over a line break, but I assume it
will work reasonably well by making blocks of the two directions and keeping
them together.

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for an answer to a dilemma I have about text layouting and
I was wondering if I might get some thoughts about how that's done in
OO Write.

In short, the Unicode Bidi Algorithm requires that reordering of mixed
RTL/LTR text runs be done after line breaking. But the line wrapping
algorithm needs to know which text runs go first/last on each line in
order to compute the line width, because there might be diff. amount
of whitespace between runs, so depending on the order of the runs
within the line, the line will have a diff. width. Looks like a
chicken-egg problem and I can't figure it out. Why is this not a
problem in any bidi-enabled text editor? How is that solved in
practice?

Thanks!

a) I haven't looked at the code;
b) This is from memory, based on material back when OOo 2.x was in
development;

As such, this might not reflect current practice, if not outright wrong.

There are two hyphenation algorithms in OOo. One of them was created by
Lázló Németh. (Hoping I have the correct diacritic marks.) The other one
was a slightly modified form of the hyphenation program used by TeX.

The Tex derived hyphenation program is for "normal languages", where
everything is regular, and compounded words can be easily parsed and
broken apart, without losing meaning.

The program Lázló wrote is for non-normal languages. These are languages
that use a number of suffixes, prefixes, intefixes, and other things,
that more or less ensure that breaking the word can, and usually will
alter the meaning of the word, if not the sentence. It is not uncommon
that breaking one of these words in the wrong place, will change the
meaning of the entire paragraph. Hungarian is the best known European
language, with this type of behaviour.

His program also works for languages in which words can be compounded
upon words, to create new words. Break these words in the wrong place,
and one can easily overlook the misplaced hyphen. Even breaking them in
the right place can result in the hyphen being overlooked.

IIRC, Lázló wrote at least one paper, and did one or two presentations
on hyphenation in OOo.

I don't understand how it is used. It divides the patterns in two groups

This is not a technical "how to" question. This is something I would like
to see added somehow, because you can't drag the top & bottom independently
of each other. I already know how to drag them. Again, what they don't
have is the ability for the top & bottom independently. I hope this helps
to clarify what my issue was & is. If someone would care to speak w/me or

because you have a typical "Howto" question, your request is better suited
in the user forums [1] or the users mailing list [2].

The developer mailing list is not the right place for such case of problems.

A reasonable solution and most likely a useful skill to become
re-acquainted with; however since it is 25+ years since I have played in
a Unix environment was also hoping to have a fall back to a bit more
automated methodology for dealing with SVN.
I will definitely in mind going forward.

Be sure to install Win7 (64bit) or even better Win10 (64bit).

Those 2 packages are bundled with OpenOffice for the installation

This Bugzilla issue was started by Ariel to overcome the "Java not
found" problem in 4.1.3.
Later he decided to bundle msvcr100.dll (32bit) like we did before (in
fact in 4.1.3 it was 64bit, hence the bug).

The Visual C Runtime dll (msvcr100.dll) has to be put here:
{SourceMain}/main/external/msvcp100/

And yes, Microsoft wisely decided to name vcredist_x86.exe for VC2008
and VC2010 exactly the same... ;-)
I just renamed them to "vcredist_x86_2008.exe" and
"vcredist_x86_2010.exe" to tell them apart.

I hope that helps!

Windows build question

2017-08-07 Thread Jim Jagielski
Just for the heck-of-it I am setting up a Win7 build VM for
AOO... going over the build stuff on the wikis I see that
I am supposed to download the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1
Redistributable Package, for vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe.

But later on
(https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Building_Guide_AOO/Step_by_step#Windows_7.2C_Windows_8.1.2C_Windows_10)
one of the optional packages is DirectX SDK which installs Visual C++
2010 Redistributable.

Now in https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127197#c6 it looks
like, somehow, 2 versions of vcredist_x86.exe are bundled, one
from the 2008 package and the other from the 2010 one (I assume).
But the *downloaded* versions are both called the exact same.

So what does the rename of the 2010 version of vcredist_x86.exe to
vcredist100_x86.exe, as implied by the BZ issue?

Hello, I have a question about rsc compiler & gbuild

2017-02-20 Thread 김재석
Hello, My name is jaeseok kim.
I knew this e-mail address on fourm.openoffice.org/forum. And I have a few
question about OpenOffice.

I use openoffice source code in my project. But it is so difficult. So I need
some helps.

I want to convert the '.hrc/.src file' to the '.res file.' I know that using
rsc compiler.
I'd like to use compiler rsc separately. To use it, what kind of Make file
should be made?

When you make the formula module in libreoffice, you know that rsc compiler
creates a foren file using the resource file.

command is main/formula make -f Makefile.

I would like to convert the "core_resource.src" file to "foren.res" using the
rsc compiler in other program.

So it's the same thing to try to make the same thing.
copy to my folder these folders and file
/main/formula
/main/rsc
/main/solenv
LinuxX86-64Env.Set

and
/formula gmake -f Makefile

but did not seem to work.
Ultimately, I want to use the files I want to convert to binary format using
the rsc compiler tool.

Thank you.

Re: Question -- building AOO 4.1.3 on Windows

2017-01-22 Thread Hong
In the end I figured out I was missing perl-Net-SSLeay.

Since perl-LWP-Protocol depends on perl-Net-SSLeay (according to the
screenshot), apy-cyg should install perl-Net-SSLeay while installing
perl-LWP-Protocol, but it did not.

I suggest let configure output perl -e 'use LWP::Protocol::https', instead
of perl -e 'use LWP::Protocol::https' > \dev\null as currently is.

Hi Damjan,

The error is still the same, except for the wording is a little different.

Attached the config.log and output. In the meantime I will be looking at
the script as well. If I find something wrong, I will let you know.

Re: Question -- building AOO 4.1.3 on Windows

2017-01-21 Thread Damjan Jovanovic
Firstly, it looks like there's a bug in our configure script: the
dependencies that are checked for in bulk, are different from the
dependencies that are tested individually and reported as missing, so a
missing dependency can be wrongly reported.

I've just committed a fix for it, so please "svn update", "autoconf", and
try "configure" again. If you still get errors, please attach the output
and your config.log.

Re: Question -- building AOO 4.1.3 on Windows

2017-01-20 Thread Hong
Hi all,

Now I am building AOO under Win7. Most of my settings are exactly the same
as the instruction.

I keep seeing this package missing error when I did "./configure". Can
someone please help? I already kept trying the entire afternoon.

As you can see I did a check, it was installed, but just "./configure"
complains it is missing.

Someone reported this issue before, but the status is fixed now

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-12629

Also the buildbot does not have this issue. What could be wrong with my
environment? https://ci.apache.org/builders/aoo-win7/builds/602

Re: Question -- building AOO 4.1.3 on Windows

2017-01-16 Thread Hong
Hi again,

I now encountered this error,

checking for PSDK files... configure: error: Some (all?) PSDK files not
found, please check if all needed Platform SDKs
are installed or use --with-psdk-home .

I suspect it was that I installed Windows SDK v10, or maybe that I did not
install under the default "Program Files (x86)" ?

The instruction said the Windows SDK is v7. Does it need to be strictly
followed?

A more general question is does everything in https://wiki.openoffice.org/
wiki/Documentation/Building_Guide_AOO/Step_by_step needs to be strictly
followed? I am using a Windows 10 machine, but things like .NET 3.5, MSVC
2008 and GDI needs to come out of Win XP sound a bit outdated.

As in my screenshot, I did not see an autoconf file in my download as well.
I was curious why was it too. Autoconf is a project file, not a Cygwin
command/tool?

Hi

Please run "autoconf" first, which will generate "configure" from "

Question -- building AOO 4.1.3 on Windows

2017-01-15 Thread Hong
Hello all,

I am trying to build AOO 4.1.3 on a Windows machine.

My source code was from this page,
https://openoffice.apache.org/downloads.html (from the zip, not from the
svn checkout)

I was following through this guide,
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Building_Guide_AOO/Step_by_step

I could follow the "Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10" section up until this,

SDK_PATH="/cygdrive/c/Microsoft_SDKs/Windows/v7.0"
./configure \
--with-frame-home="$SDK_PATH" \
--with-psdk-home="$SDK_PATH" \
--with-midl-path="$SDK_PATH/bin" \
--with-ant-home="/cygdrive/c/apache-ant-1.8.4" \
--with-jdk-home="C:/PROGRA~2/Java/JDK18~1.0_7" \
--with-csc-path="C:/Windows/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v3.5" \
--with-cl-home="C:/PROGRA~2/MI1DCA~1.0/VC" \
--with-asm-home="C:/PROGRA~2/MI1DCA~1.0/VC/bin" \
--with-dmake-url="
http://sourceforge.net/projects/oooextras.mirror/files/dmake-4.12.tar.bz2"; \
--with-epm-url="
https://sourceforge.net/projects/oooextras.mirror/files/epm-3.7.tar.gz"; \
--disable-pch \
--disable-atl \
--disable-activex \
--disable-nss-module \
--without-junit

Assuming this is Cygwin code, typing in Cygwin gave me "bash: ./configure:
No such file or directory"

Also the main directory does not seem to have a "configure", but only
configure.cmd and configure.in

Any thoughts what was the problem here? Am I following the right
instruction?

Re: Question Regarding Limitations

If you use the internal database, I believe that you are using HSQLDB.
I expect that this stores the entire DB in memory (not sure about that),
but if so, then you are memory limited.

If you use some other DB as the back-end and only use Base as the
front-end, then your limitations will be related to the back-end system.
I might recommend that you do this if you are worried about size
limitations.

"colour" (English spelling).

I thought perhaps it picked up my previous use of en-US from my profile,
but I got the same effect installing on a new Windows 10 computer that
has never run any OpenOffice before.

It is using English, not American, spellings in the user interface, but
I would have expected documents to also default to the installation
language.

What language is supposed to be used, by default, for user documents?

it's the language from the underlying system.

The same values are set when it comes to other formattings. E.g., you
will see "US-Dollar" for the currency and not "British Pound".

However, the UI interface is the language from the installation file.

*IMHO* it's OK that not all settings are set to the language of the
installation file. However, for the default spell check it's
discuss-worthy.

I'll check that it is not a regression. If it isn't, we can put it aside
for now. It does seem strange that I need to do more to get en-GB
spelling after installing an en-GB AOO.

for me it's not that strange as I see the main purpose of the respective
language in the install file for the UI (menus, help, etc.).

Just think of installing 2-3 langpacks. So, what should now be the
default language? Hm ...

However, as written the setting the spell check language is
discuss-worthy. I can think of this as a secondary purpose when choosing
a specific language for OpenOffice.

On the occasion a User reports this happening we recommend deleting or renaming
the OO user profile so it generates a fresh profile on next startup.

Normally installation of a language version (my experience is with en-GB) on a
clean installation (i.e., no previous OO installation) should install the
correct English dictionary.

I can indeed force correct spelling using Tools/Languages.

My question is what language should be the default. I expected the
installation language, but it seems to be doing something different.
