Guys,
I propose switching our default Java VM from icedtea-bin to icedtea.
Is there any reason for not to use the one compiled by us?

It's good overall.
"leaving me with a black screen" --> sometimes different behaviour
could happen: the 4500 made a pinkish-pseudo-randomly-coloured screen.
I'd change it in "leaving me with a black screen or with graphics
artifacts".

Please have a look at the bottom "It does not boot" section.
It will go live tonight (UTC).

Actually not IIRC: the installer already parses the cmdline used to
boot the ISO and simply adds some other parameters by means of
/etc/default/sabayon-grub. So it shouldn't need any modification at
all. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If that was possible, it would be a very very good solution. However I
guess this kind of proposal would affect also the installer.

1) I bother because unexperienced user will try RELEASE instead of

why not wait with the S10 release until 3.6 kernels?
pal
There is no 3.6 kernel yet.
Don't fear heated discussions, that's the fun of free software.

I'll just write couple of my observations.
I don't know if yo know each other in person, but the tone of the
conservation is rather unpleasant.
I agree with Danilo that you should realize that these people try to
help you and do it in their free time.

Complaints about non-working hardware should be filed upstream, not to
the distro.
However, in this case, upstream clearly told me that non-KMS setups
are NOT supported anymore.

They're good, till you play Pacman :)
It's not a problem of the driver, it makes the card run as fast as
Windows, it's the Intel hardware that's ugly slow -- but this is a
question which does not impact us at all.
I repeat: I'm not "against" foss ati driver, I'm just stating the

No problem, then make them work. Do you understand S10 images do not
work with any AMD card?

Intel not being good for games is another myth. It is for a vast
majority of users.
Just read Phoronix benchmarks.

That would be OK for me, but now the question is: have we been testing
this configuration enough? For my tests, 100% of AMD hardware (HD4870,
HD4500, HD6670) was not able to correctly load KDE. I'm just worried
about Sabayon 10 NOT WORKING for those who have AMD, regardless which

The problem is that they give you support for a limited amount of

Exactly what I wanted to say, Fabio didn't say anything about dropping
FGLRX as an option. Radeon opensource drivers *will be default boot* on the
next ISOs, and who wants to install fglrx, he's on his own. Simple math :)
