I've finally managed to get a fully-working install of slimerver with
alienbbc and aac-mp3 transcoding for my Slimp3 working on an ubuntu
box. This was pretty much entirely due to the stuff in this forum and
on the wiki since I had absolutely no idea about linux before I started
the project.

USB2 external disks are fine for SqueezeCenter. If you put
SqueezeCenter on your mac over wireless it would not work as well
because the music stream would have to go over wireless twice and could
cause the music to drop out (not play for a few seconds while it catches
up)

I've switched to a hardwire connection. No improvement. In fact, the
SB3 wasn't even responsive to the power button. I've just downgraded
to 6.5.4 to see if that helps.

1. first make sure you can bring up the web itnerface locally at
http://127.0.0.1:9000
2. The see if you can bring up the web interface from another computer,
at http://you_macs_IP:9000
3. Then try telnetting to port 3483 and see if it connects.
