Re: [slim] Help me set up VPN for remote playback w/ iPeng etc
Hi! Found a better way to do it. I'm using Vortexbox that has ssh enabled by default First open port 22 on your FW and redirect it to your Vortexbox. Install Serverauditor from AppStore on your iDevice. In Serverauditor add a new host with your external ip-address or prefered a dynamic dns name. Go to Port Forwarding in Serverauditor and add a New Rule, choose Local, select your host, set Port From: 9000, destination: 127.0.0.1, set Port To: 9000. Add another rule but use port 3483. Start Portforwarding by pressing the rules. In iPeng add a server with address 127.0.0.1. That's it. If you are sufficiently non-audiophile to consider a 3.5mm good enough, this will allow very cheap and tiny headless player - about £30 all in. I like that the stack will only be around 15mm high, with all connectors on one side - the current pi sandwiches look a bit ugly to me, in or out of a case. The nuisance is the networking - micro-usb to usb adapter + wifi dongle is the sensible option, but that won't be terribly pretty. utgg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=40900 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104707 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

d6jg wrote: > There is firmware on a Pi - it is the equivalent to a PCs BIOS - why its > called firmware and not BIOS I am not sure. Because "firmware" is the generic term for semi-permanently installed control software held in non-volatile memory. One specific kind of firmware is a boot loader - the firmware that allows the device to boot from a secondary device. On a PC, that boot loader is called "BIOS". The Raspberry pi has a simple first stage bootloader in ROM - that bootloader reads the second stage bootloader from the SD card. "To try to judge the real from the false will always be hard. Re: [slim] Rasp Pi Problem cant solve
Sorry for not being clear, to try and eliminate as much as I could, I have two identical Pi's, the working one and non working one, no DAC just using the headphone for testing, same SD card. So try it in the working pi all fine, then swap the same sd card to the non working pi, use the same power supply, same Ethernet cable, same switch port as before and it drops out every time. So this eliminates the SD card, OS, switch port, Ethernet cable, no DAC used, only leaves the pi? Whilst I have been thinking about it, when I started building my rig, I do remember one of the blog posts saying I should upgrade the firmware of the pi, and to be honest I cannot remember if I did them all, so I will go through this proves on the non working one, see if I missed one, only thing I could think of? Hopefully get round to it on Saturday. alastaid's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=65063 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104698 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Rasp Pi Problem cant solve
There is firmware on a Pi - it is the equivalent to a PCs BIOS - why its called firmware and not BIOS I am not sure. *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104698 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The point I am trying to make is no firmware/boot software on the actual Raspberry Pi PCB itself, it is all loaded from the SD card. If I understand correctly, the OP is testing with 2 RPIs with one SD card. On one Pi it works and one doesn't. He thinks the firmware is upgraded on one but not the other. I don't think this is possible using the same SD card. When I was a boy, firmware was software permanently loaded onto hardware, ie ROMs or EPROMs. Now its all RAM with battery or capacitor backup and writeable. The terms and meanings tend to change and get fuzzy over time. regards Greg Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104698 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
