Or you can buy a second hand receiver for £40 and be done with it :-P

On the other hand I was thinking about getting a Pi Zero and putting it
inside my Yamaha receiver. Connected to hdmi means it could use the
Yamaha's DAC.
Could be very neat...

Playing around in Mp3Tag I found one can insert a column that gives the
date created.

%_file_create_date%

it gives the date created not date modified. If there were a way to then
search the database by a date range that used that tag field that would
be pretty nice

Warning. Only ever do this if you have changed the Vortexbox password
from the default. Opening SSH to allow access from anywhere is very very
dangerous. You will get portscanned and you will get people trying to
access.

I log into www.mysqueezebox.com. I find my podcasts there, but I cannot
find the music I've stored, as I think I did before.

Or do I need to log in elsewhere?

Any help appreciated!

Re: [slim] Help me set up VPN for remote playback w/ iPeng etc

2015-11-27 Thread bernt

Hi!

Found a better way to do it. I'm using Vortexbox that has ssh enabled by
default

First open port 22 on your FW and redirect it to your Vortexbox.

Install Serverauditor from AppStore on your iDevice. In Serverauditor
add a new host with your external ip-address or prefered a dynamic dns
name.

Go to Port Forwarding in Serverauditor and add a New Rule, choose Local,
select your host, set Port From: 9000, destination: 127.0.0.1, set Port
To: 9000.

Add another rule but use port 3483.

Start Portforwarding by pressing the rules.

In iPeng add a server with address 127.0.0.1.

That's it.

Pimoroni have a tiny matching little dac hat for £16 coming along:
https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/phat-dac. If you are sufficiently
non-audiophile to consider a 3.5mm good enough, this will allow very
cheap and tiny headless player - about £30 all in. I like that the stack
will only be around 15mm high, with all connectors on one side - the
current pi sandwiches look a bit ugly to me, in or out of a case.

The nuisance is the networking - micro-usb to usb adapter + wifi dongle
is the sensible option, but that won't be terribly pretty.

Because "firmware" is the generic term for semi-permanently installed
control software held in non-volatile memory. One specific kind of
firmware is a boot loader - the firmware that allows the device to boot
from a secondary device. On a PC, that boot loader is called "BIOS".

The Raspberry pi has a simple first stage bootloader in ROM - that
bootloader reads the second stage bootloader from the SD card.

supply.
As a Player? Naaa look @ the picore Thread all the Guys now want a Touch

These days non-volatile RAM is mostly flash memory, not (battery- or

It could be used as a player, but it lacks an ethernet connection, so
you would have to use USB for network connectivity.

Depends on how do you use squeezelite..

If you dont use a fake mac address for the squeezeliteplayer some
strange playersettings in your lms may also involved.

Do you use a fake Mac Address for squeezelite?
If no - stop your logitechmediaserver and edit in the server.prefs from

Why would you need to do that? All it does is load the second stage boot
program from SD.

"Proper" computers are a different thing (I see the raspberry pi as an
embedded device, not a computer). A desktop PC has a battery-powered
clock, and usually set-up parameters that need to be maintained, even if
the BIOS is in flash. Embedded computers, such as the RPI, don't use
batteries or super caps.

Your own music would have been stored on your own local computer. It
would now run Logitech Media Server. This used to be called
squeezecenter, then squeezeboxserver.

P.s. In the old days there was some sort of MP3 vault that allowed
cloud storage of MP3 files. I think this has been gone for several
years.

I don't know why you expend so much energy being frustrated. If people
didn't ask questions/request things not much would ever get improved or
invented.

hi alastaid,

There is no firmware on the Raspberry Pi itself. All the software is on
the SD card.

For SB3 that's probably a question someone from Logitech has to answer
since nobody else has seen the firmware.

Re: [slim] Rasp Pi Problem cant solve

2015-11-27 Thread alastaid

Sorry for not being clear, to try and eliminate as much as I could, I
have two identical Pi's, the working one and non working one, no DAC
just using the headphone for testing, same SD card. So try it in the
working pi all fine, then swap the same sd card to the non working pi,
use the same power supply, same Ethernet cable, same switch port as
before and it drops out every time.

So this eliminates the SD card, OS, switch port, Ethernet cable, no DAC
used, only leaves the pi?

Whilst I have been thinking about it, when I started building my rig, I
do remember one of the blog posts saying I should upgrade the firmware
of the pi, and to be honest I cannot remember if I did them all, so I
will go through this proves on the non working one, see if I missed one,
only thing I could think of? Hopefully get round to it on Saturday.

There is firmware on a Pi - it is the equivalent to a PCs BIOS - why its
called firmware and not BIOS I am not sure.

The point I am trying to make is no firmware/boot software on the actual
Raspberry Pi PCB itself, it is all loaded from the SD card.

If I understand correctly, the OP is testing with 2 RPIs with one SD
card. On one Pi it works and one doesn't. He thinks the firmware is
upgraded on one but not the other. I don't think this is possible using
the same SD card.

When I was a boy, firmware was software permanently loaded onto
hardware, ie ROMs or EPROMs. Now its all RAM with battery or capacitor
backup and writeable. The terms and meanings tend to change and get
fuzzy over time.

Greg
