Re: [slim] How can I have albums sorted chronologically?
I wanted this for a while and a problem with compilation albums (I tag each songs original release year) meant that it didn't work satifactorarilily. I bit the bullet and entered an ALBUMSORT tag which means everything is chronological within each artist, exactly as I wanted and I think as you desire. My albumsort tag was firstly made by copying the YEAR tags from track 1 of the non-VA albums and the highest value from the Various Artist albums. I then went through and updated the oddities - mostly from people who released two albums a year. I went for 2011a and 2011b for example. In the main menu (on the web ui, SB Duet Controller, iPeng, probably SqueezeCommander, etc) go to My Music Albums. You get a list of albums. I think the default sorting is by album title across all artists (yuck!), but there are options to sort by Artist / Year or Artist / Year / Album, which is essentially what you are asking for. The main difference is that in album browsing the unit of observation is an album, instead of an artist. So when browsing albums you get a very flat presentation of your library, just as if the physical disks were arranged on a shelf. Even though each line is an album, the _sorting_ can be by Artist / Year (in chronological order, not reverse chronological). When browsing by artists (which is what I think you're saying you want), you would browse artists and then go a level deeper to see the individual albums. Re: [slim] Best Squeezebox alternative that supports 24/192?
Hmm, seems an interesting product. Looks like the Vortexbox software can be installed onto self-built PC so it can be fan less? While the primary goal to have SB/SBT in the system is to prevent from using any HTPC concept. I honestly can't tell the different between 24/96 and 24/192 for most recordings, however, the jitter produced by SBT indeed can be heard using a good DAC. So the purpose is not only for a 24/192 capable digital transport, more importantly, for a lower jitter transport. garym;677027 Wrote: Vortexbox Appliance with latest VB software can do 24/384 via its built in vortexbox player (and you can still manage it with LMS library that you use for other SB players). Open that application and go to the Advanced tab. Toward the bottom of the tab there is a section called Cleanup. Check the box next to Clean cache folder, including... and push the Run Cleanup button. If you get a message about LMS needing to be stopped, go to the first tab and click the Stop Logitech Media Server button. Return to the Advanced tab and push Run Cleanup again. It takes a few minutes to complete the deletion. When you restart LMS -- or reboot your server -- it will rescan your library. Even easier: on the first tab of the Control Panel application is a section called Media Scan Details. Change the drop-down to Clear library and rescan everything and hit the Rescan button. Please post back with results. -- Apesbrain Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92312 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] 7.7.1 not rescanning
Can you provide more information about your setup? - Are you running LMS on a PC, NAS, plug computer? - What operating system? - What CPU? - How much RAM? - Is your library on an internal hard drive or external USB? - How many tracks are in your library? Not that LMS is particularly picky about all these things but it helps visualize exactly what we're working with. -- Apesbrain Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92312 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released
I tried it, but quickly found that it's lacking too many features compared with SqueezeCommander. It has a nice look and feel to it, though. -- Kvaks Kvaks's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21610 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92330 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released
Thanks for the feedback Kvaks and thanks also for giving us a shot. Yours is the first outside feedback that we have received so it is particularly valuable. If you don't mind telling us what features you miss then we would appreciate it. In my day-to-day use, Orange Squeeze serves my needs but certainly I am just one user. I have resisted using SqueezeCommander, or any of the other apps (including even the free Logitech app!), because I didn't want to fall into a copy-cat mentality. So I guess that my request for clarification is somewhat of a dichotomy. I'm torn, to be honest. :-) Anyway, this started out as -- and continues to be -- a learning process... and that process is not over with 1.0 (or 1.0.1). Certainly the price point we chose reflects the fact that we know (well, suspect that we know) where our app lies in a direct side-by-side comparison. I do want to make sure that you don't feel that you were misled in our market description. Were there features mentioned that you feel were not in the product? Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released
Ben, I like your approach of ignoring the others :-). And I must agree that users will always miss some functionality - sometimes less is more. Competition is a good thing. I gave Orange Squeeze a quick spin. I won't compare it to other apps (I see pros and cons for all of them, including yours), but give some some feedback none the less: - first of all: nice job. Discovered my servers/players quickly. No fuzz setting it up. Basic jobs like browsing, player control etc. work fine. - I like the concept of being able to select the target for every action. - I like the album preview icons for artists. Would it be possible to have it the full icon size if there's only one album for an artist? And while we're at it... you could pull in some random artist artwork from last.fm if no album artwork for an artist was available... - as you mentioned the Kindle Fire as compatible, I tried to install it there first. But I couldn't find the app neither on Amazon's store nor in SlideMe. Further feedback based on running it on an Acer Iconia (HTC Desire failing to download it this morning?) - first time I browsed the Music Folder, it failed to browse a sub-folder, but would always jump back to the main folder. Might be an issue only showing while it was still waiting for the full list? - Apps and Internet Radio icons look poor, like jaggy, small jpegs rescaled, while album artwork etc. is good. I see from the server log that you're pulling in the original file, which would be 512x512 png. Where are the artefacts introduced? - At some point I got it into a odd state: I switched to controlling a different player connected to a different server. But still I would see the old server/player's App menu, eg. apps which are not available from the new server. Selecting one of them would return an empty menu, then jump to the Now Playing screen. - just got the you can go to the Now Playing activity message: I would try to avoid tech speech. Most non-devs probably don't know what an activity is on a phone ;-). Unfortunately there seems to be a problem with the app store: started the update on the Acer, installation on the HTC, but download is failing. Thus can't continue the testing... Keep up the good work! Looking forward to the next steps. Michael Am 15.12.2011, 22:33 Uhr, schrieb db122 db122.54t3mn1323984...@no-mx.forums.slimdevices.com: Hi everyone. Re: [slim] Best Squeezebox alternative that supports 24/192?
If you used a VortexBox Appliance and a SOtM USB to SPDIF converter you would have extremely lower jitter and up to 24/384 playback capability. That is what we use for testing in our lab here. http://shop.smallgreencomputer.com/SOtM-USB-Digital-Interface-SOtM-USB.htm You may also be able to get good playback with VortexBox running on other hardware and a different USB to SPDIF converter. -- agillis rip, tag, get cover artÂ… All you do is insert the CD! http://vortexbox.org agillis Lead Developer VortexBox agillis's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=21140 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92320 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
