Do you mean the 'Squeezebox Controller' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Squeezebox_Controller)? As long as you've got a standard wireless network (802.11g or 802.11N, preferably with WPA encryption) and run a normal 'LMS' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Logitech_Media_Server) installation on your NAS, and your NAS is on the same subnet as your wireless access point, there shouldn't be any problems. -- Soulkeeper -That is not dead which can eternal lie. [slim] Probably asked many times....convert wired SB3 to wireless?
Hi all, I've frequented these forums since buying my first Squeezebox, about 6 years ago, and I vaguely remember this question being asked a few times...but I seem unable to find the threads when I need them :-) I've just bought a Slim Devices branded SB3 (to go alongside my other three Slim/Logitech boxes) The one I've just bought (ebay) is NOT the wireless one. Can anyone remind me if it's possible (and easy) to upgrade it to the wireless version? Is there a specific wireless card that is required, and if so does anyone have a quick guide or some URLs? I'm in the UK. I do have a spare Intel wifi card floating around (from a Dell laptop) but I've no idea if that's the right unit for use in the SB3 Classic. [slim] Plugins v. cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins
What's the difference between these two directories: /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins I'm experimenting with LMS 7.7.1 on Ubuntu 11.10, and there are two old plugins I want to use that are not in the default set: OtherPlayers and PowerSwitchII. I started off by putting them both into /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins, and they worked fine. But then every time I went to the Plugins page on the web interface, it popped up the box that asks for a server restart. I then noticed on my old installation (7.3.2 on Ubuntu 8.10) that PowerSwitchII was in /var/lib/squeezecenter/Plugins. So I moved it to /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins on LMS 7.7.1 and now everything is fine and that box no longer pops up. The tricky part is that with new type of devices like this the things you think you are going to use it for can often be quite different to what you actually end up using them for. True! I would never have considered the 7 device as my first (and final) choice. But now that I've had it for a while, I think I would have been happy too... I would never have thought so. If I've understood correct, HTC has some issue with the Logitech Squeezebox app so based on this I think I need something else than a HTC. The HTC issue is fixed now. But they have a poor track-record about breaking compatibility. Ask bluegaspode (I think?) about the UDAP configuration tool for receiver et al. The Samsung devices (Galaxy Note and Tab 7.7 or Tab 8.9) looks nice, does anyone have experience using them together with Squeezebox remotes ? A friend of mine have a Motorola Xoom, which he likes, but I don't think it has the latest Android version. I think there's only one device with the latest Ice Cream Sandwich version: Samsung's reference phone. And that's probably your best bet if you want to be future proof: get whatever Google uses to announce something new. It's most likely to be the device which will get longest support. I've been burnt with the HTC Desire: while they do offer an update to 2.3, it's only considered a developer's edition, not for the end-user. Which means: I can develop/test for the Desire 2.3, but most users will never use this combination. The Acer Iconia got updated from 3.0 to 3.2 within minutes after I had set it up. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Hi Ben, just gave your App a go and have to say I really like it! It's a well thought of UI and I'm 'feeling home' instantly. It's also a very good quality for a first release (sent you a crash report, but had it only once). You have a very different style compared to SqueezeCommander (which is good). Also I love that your App (for some reason I don't know yet) feels 'simpler' than SqueezeCommander which took me a bit longer to get used to (it took me some time to get warm with the iPeng-iPhone navigation style, that SqueezeCommander copied). I don't think that you need to 'hide' behind SqueezeCommander with your price level, you do have a valid alternative and users will need to decide what style they like most. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released
Hi, I've given it a try to and I have to second bluegaspode's finding: impressive quality for a first release. One more member in the club of people who believe horizontal swiping is a useful means of organizing pages :) I also like some details like how the new NowPlaying information slides in when you change a player, taking care of details is always so cool! It's obviously not for my device, though. The layout is nice and gives a visible clue of where you are and gives you quick access to the player controls and the current track. This is certainly fine for a large-screen device like one of those Android-monster-phones with 4.3-Displays that recently came out or for a tablet, but on my Xperia Mini pro there's almost no space for content left, when I use Search (where I have to use landscape since that's where the view rotates to when I open the keyboads), there's only a single line left for results which makes me feel a bit like on the Squeezebox Classic. In portrait it shows four rows which still feels like you want a full-screen mode or something. A few details: * I don't like the breadcrumbs. Maybe that's my small device again but they always only show the current menu level plus ... and I find taking up 1/3rd of a row just to let me know that this is not a top level menu a waste of space, a single symbol would have done, especially since at least in portrait the tradeoff usually is that the menu level gets truncated. * For Apps I haven't found a way to do anything else but play single tracks, is this not ready, yet, or a bug? These tracks (unlike the menus where it's fine) also don't show artwork, at least for Spotify. * When waiting up from sleep it takes _very_ long to reconnect to WiFi and the server, might be my device. * The player overview with the volume bars flickers the handle and shows changing volume for some of my players even if nothing happens. * I sometimes get an erroneous loading... message at the bottom of the screen. * It sometimes loses the connection to the server and I have to kill and restart it then. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92330 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

maggior;678026 Wrote: Any plans for taking advantage of the tablet platform with the extra screen real estate? Yes, indeed and it will be part of this product rather than a second, tablet-specific version. I was originally planning on supporting both for the initial release but I had to pare my own expectations back. The only problem with running it on a tablet now is that you are simply wasting huge amounts of screen real-estate. In case it need be said, the $0.99 price point for a niche app like this is primarily to make sure that folks who are looking for Winamp don't download the app and rate it one star because of the confusion. That said, every dollar counts and I do appreciate the donations, because I'm quite confident that all of you are already running SqueezeCommander. -- db122 db122's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4076 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92330 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Ran a rescan and lost all music
re computer literate , why run the server on a NAS ? It is easier and more user friendly on a real computer, on the other hand if you persist you will becomme computer literate ;) I'm sure their are other ready NAS user with better ideas, I run another kind of server . But what you should learn is how to get to the server.log and scanner.log files they are in the /var/log/squeezeboxserver/ directory of your NAS you can read parts of them trough the links on the settings page ,directly in your browser . otherwise putty or winscp is friendly apps to use from the pc. If the scanner crashes it can leave information in scanner.log or server.log In squeezeboxservers advanced settings there is logging settings, here you can rise the level of logging, this is good if you plan to send the files to someone. btw if you go to artists in the menu is it really only 2 artists ?
