Re: [slim] FNG. Old Touch. Unable my music Any help appreciated.
In short, to use a networked music player, you need a working network, start with getting that sorted before you do any more troubleshooting on your Squeezebox system. I assume your No 1 router is the one connected to your modem or equivalent on its WAN side and that you then have a wired connection to your PC on the LAN, if so that's pretty much the best practice. If the WiFi part of that router doesn't provide enough signal for your premises there are a few methods to improve coverage. The best method is to add access point(s) where signal is weak. The access point may be a dedicated device, or you may configure a router with WiFi to act as an access point. This is then connected via wire to your router. A different method would be to use WiFi repeaters or range extenders, yet another would be to use powerline ethernet adapters to set up a wired connection to your Touch, but it gets increasingly hit-and-miss the further you stray from the proven solutions. If you have 2nd router wired to your No 1 router I suggest to check if it can be setup as an access point, at a minimum you should disable DHCP on it. alfista's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32396 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103300 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I realise that for some people that is of little consequence and regard it as a minor issue but there are others for whom the Radio 3 320 kbps is of major importance. DJanGo, Thanks for taking a look. The last time I ran a scan it took 3 hours before I could gain access to the Squeezebox again. I think the scanning process itself is being completed in 10-15 minutes, but then there is some disk activity (??) going on for the next 2 hours and 45 minutes that I can't account for. At this point the only solution seems to be setting up a rescan to automatically run in the wee hours of the morning when I won't need access to the Squeezebox. If you are running VortexBox 2.3, I suggest installing LMS 7.9 from the Squeeze Community repository and see if that fixes your scanning issues. I guess the reason that people are suggesting you won't see much/any speed benefits from an SSD in a NAS is that the music server will (probably?) be connected to your music player by 100Mbps or maybe 1Gbps Ethernet (and you won't reach those nominal transfer speeds anyway: probably reaching only half the headline speed). Re: [slim] Full scan hangs
Folks, I got some sound advice from Ron Olsen, an Administrator over at the Vortexbox Forums, that the file I uploaded here yesterday was already zipped, which was indicated by the .gz extension. Following Ron's instructions, I have uploaded a straight zip file this time. I appreciate any help you might be able to give me with my problem. Thanks, Steve +---+ |Filename: scanner.log-20150318.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=17681| +---+ radish112's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11591 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=103334 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

My understanding is that they did was change the URLs in a way the devices couldn't handle. Some may say that if I do this they really may turn the feeds off. But I also have read that they are used for computer iPlayer Listen Again feeds, so there's no risk to the great facilities provided by bpa for now. The reason I feel the BBC should be told is that it shows they don't know what is really going on at all, and that the change could probably be reversed if they put their minds to it (even if just by clever use of URLs). Can I ask for comments? I was initially tempted to raise the matter myself on the BBC Internet Blog but decided against doing so as it might prompt the BBC to take action to stop the RTMP on-demand streams earlier than they might do otherwise. It is currently our only source if 320 kbps Radio 3 Listen Again. I realise that for some people that is of little consequence and regard it as a minor issue but there are others for whom the Radio 3 320 kbps is of major importance. I would strongly discourage you from challenging Andrew Scott over the continued existence of the RTMP LA streams, whether or not they are still used by the BBC's browser client. Since Squeezebox users are largely on top of this situation, thanks to the efforts of key members of this community, those of us still slugging it out with the Beeb are doing it largely on behalf of a silent minority who may, or may not, give a damn! Your objectives are admirable but I'd prefer to see more evidence that the BBC would use your information for good rather than harm. I can't answer your question about RTMP use for PC streams - but it's important that we get these facts absolutely right before we accuse the BBC management of being misinformed. I'm not feeling noble, just annoyed! Still, I agree that I shouldn't say anything until and unless I'm very sure of my facts (although we do know for sure that bpa's BBCiPlayer Extras is still using RTMP, don't we?). Even then I'll try not to say anything unless I can persuade at least some people here that it is for the best. LMS 7.9 on VortexBox Midi, Xubuntu 14.04, FLACs 16-24 bit, 44.1-192kbps.
