LMS does require a very small amount of technical ability in terms of installing plugins, configuring them to work together, building RasPi endpoints from PiCorePlayer, etc. Roon has got "plug 'n' play" a little more polished. [slim] Tagging Issue
I fail to believe I can't find anything on this issue by searching, but maybe I'm just searching the wrong thing? I have an issue, which stems from one particular Windows computer running MP3Tag. Any file tagged with this system is problematic with LMS. It is: Read by any other music player Shows up in the LMS library Does not show when added to a playlist (now playing playlist, or any other playlist) The file plays at the appropriate place in the playlist (notwithstanding it not displaying) The file plays with no issue When the file is playing, it does not show any tag data on the SBT. On iPeng, it displays the previous track data. Re: [slim] LMS Future! What's version 10 of UE Music Library

It comes with two start scripts: - ueml.pl (Which starts it in UE Music Library mode) - slimserver.pl (Which starts it in LMS mode) I'm not sure how tested the LMS mode is at the moment, it might work but it might also be a bit broken because Logitech haven't had time to test it properly yet. The general difference between LMS and UE Music Library as I've understood it is: - UE Music Library doesn't allow installation of third party plugins - UE Music Library doesn't allow plugins which works on a specific player, for example Random Mix plugin and many other plugins doesn't work. - UE Music Library only provides the music content, the current playlist and player status is managed by the central cloud server at uesmartradio.com, so a remote control that wants to control a player needs to do it through uesmartradio.com - UE Music Library doesn't come with a web interface, as far as I've seen this means that you can only configure it through the configuration applets which are only available on Windows and OSX, while Linux users is referred to using a text editor and manually change the configuration files, for example to specify the music folder. Possibly it might be possible to configure it through the iPhone/Android apps also but to use them you need to have a UE Smart Radio and I haven't dared to upgrade one of my Radios yet. - UE Music Library isn't compatible with the Squeezebox hardware (it only works with UE Smart Radio) - UE Music Library only officially support OSX and Windows, you can use Linux if you like to but these are not supported and probably not tested much and you need to get them from 'http://downloads.slimdevices.com' (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/UEMusicLibrary_v10.0.0/unsupported/) because they aren't available on http://uesmartradio.com. But somehow I'm picturing some minimum wage guy creating the digital files without any regard for normal safeguards. Checksum is your friend...it is very simple to test a download with one of your own CDs, ripped as securely as you please. Checksum both files and see if there are any differences. amey01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11274 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80369 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Why on earth would you look for an inferior alternative? Squeezebox is a one of a kind. It is for this reason you even have to ask such a question in the first place. It is also for that reason that I think the future is bright. How could you think otherwise? Simply because they are not into planned obsolescence and a continual cycle of change-for-the-sake-of-change and spinning wheels without traction? A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86053 Question: Would you buy a home integrated Squeezebox car appliance - Yes - No I have wanted this for a very long time. But it would have to work. I don't want a science experiment. So work properly, Work reliably. Not require diddy-daddlying. Ideally, I'd like something that uses 3G (as FLAC quality is not essential in the car). But not with its own access - it would have to have SAP (Bluetooth) to connect via my existing access. A wi-fi sync (as you describe) would also work well. And so would the ability to simply plug in a portable USB hard disk. It is not hard (and takes no effort) to synchronise my server with another USB hard disk (I do it all the time for backup) and simply plug that into the car. The Squeezebox in the car would have to be designed specifically to allow operation while not looking at it, and not compromise safety in any way. An alternative would be an Android/iPhone app that allows all this (over 3G of course) on the deivce itself and simply connect that to the car. I know that's possible now, but it's not exactly bother-less. As I said - I've got better things to do than sit around for hours trying to piece something together. -- amey01 amey01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11274 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86053 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It is a little annoying having to constantly revert to the main screen and re-select. Tips or captions on some of the buttons might help. Not sure though. I got a little confused when trying to change players, but now I know it's all good. Not sure if they would get in the way and spoil the interface or not. aubuti;460790 Wrote: That's easy: whenever it takes less time to make a backup than it does for you to reproduce the data that will be lost when something happens. And something *always* happens. To take the most basic case, all hard drives eventually fail. Your time is valuable. Back everything up to an external USB drive. Even though it might take hours or days to backup a big library, it takes less than an hour of your time to start the backup going, and that includes the time it takes to buy the USB drive. Then store the drive somewhere else (I keep mine at work), and update the backups periodically as you add new albums or edit your tags. Maybe $100 for the drive and an hour of your time to protect tens or hundreds of hours spent ripping and tagging -- you do the math. The simple question is how much of your work (ie, time) are you willing to put at risk? Absolutely. And most importantly, don't use RAID. One popped capacitor in the NAS' power supply or dropping something on the case is all it takes to take out both disks at once. It's NOT backup. I too back up to a USB hard disk, then periodically take this to work and run a backup to Ultrium tape, which I keep in my office. A couple of extra suggestions if I may? 1: When choosing tracks from the library, it is hard to switch between the Now Playing, Playlist and Library screens - basically you have to go back to the start each and every time. It would be nice to be able to flick between these three main screens. 1a: When you leave the library screen (for any reason), when you re-enter it starts from the beginning and does not remember your position - very annoying if you were at P for example. 2: The search function would be even better if it searched anywhere in the string, not just beginning with. That is - for instance - it should find The Idea of North by typing in north or idea rather than insisting on the idea All up though, this is coming together really nicely. Re: [slim] PDA controller solution
While using SlimControl tonight, I thought of another enhancement/suggestion. It'd be great if it had the ability to Play next and move up and down in a playlist - just like SlimRemote (if you've seen that). Maybe by the same method - press and hold on a song [for instance] presents a menu to either add to playlist (obviously),or play next, etc. -- amey01 amey01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11274 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Product Longevity
How long is a piece of string? Don't forget, we're talking about a computer product so I certainly wouldn't expect 20++ years like other appliances. My SB3 is three years old and no problems yet. I don't have any reason not to see why it wouldn't double that easily and possibly make 10 years without an issue. There are many on this very forum using almost 10 year old SlimMP3s and SB1s - they're still supported by SC and are presenting no issues. Re: [slim] PDA controller solution
Just installed it today on an old iPAQ - works really well - very responsive and easy to use. I agree with the suggestions put forth, however I didn't see one that would also be good - that is, access to the New Music playlist. Also, internet radio shouldn't require access to SqueezeNetwork - it is accessible through the server. I do the same thing. If they're connected via a cable (which you say they are) then why do you bother about the SSID on the SpeedTouch - just turn wireless off on this altogether. That will make things much simpler as there will be only one possible router to which devices can connect. -- amey01 amey01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11274 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57663 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Transporter/SB3 Display Life
My listening room Squeezebox is used very lightly (only for serious listening - never just left on in the background - so that equates to maybe 3-5 hours a week max). I can see the burn-out from the analogue VU meters on the display - not in general use, but when the whole display alights such as when pressing the volume control when it's set at MAX. It's less than two years old and has never displayed a turned off screensaver. [slim] SB3 server connection after 7.2 upgrade
Am I missing something? After upgrading from 6.5.4, the server connection on my SB3 will now only allow an IP address, rather than the server name like it used to. Sometime or another, it's essential! I personally would put a hard drive in it I think. And some sort of CD drive to rip. I really think something like this is what stands between keeping the Squeezebox (and other music servers) a geeky niche and having it become mainstream. That is, if granny or pop could run down to their hi-fi dealer and come back with something that they could plug in and press Play - just like they do with a CD player. -- amey01 amey01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11274 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52559 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] 7.2 Handling of Compilations
Firstly, I have only just upgraded from 6.5.4 and all I can say is WOW - it only confirms in my mind what an excellent company SD is for making such an upgrade available for such a great product. It went much more smoothly than I ever imagined! Only problem: Compilation albums now show up as multiple instances under Albums instead of one album. That makes them extremely difficult to play as you need to ADD each instance of the album instead of adding the album only. There's gotta be a way to change this - I just can't find it...I've been fiddling under Music Library -- Compilations but that's NOT it! -- amey01 amey01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11274 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52124 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
