You'd find that the iPad 1 works just as well in that respect. iPad 2 is a bit faster but that's it. I've used the camera ONCE, to see whether it works. Do I need GPS in an iPad??? iPad 1 has 1 BIG advantage: you can get that ugly black cover for it which looks really, really bad but actually protects the device and gives it some hold when lying on slippery surfaces. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91222 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Hmm, the Nook Color can be had pretty cheaply as a refurb and there is a root kit to unlock the full Android OS. And on top of that it seems like the Nook Color 2 will be announced in about a week. I think I should hold off until I see what that's all about. -- tonyptony tonyptony's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91222 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Time to replace my Nokia 770, but with what?
I'm looking for a Wi-fi capable, SB supported remote device now that my 770 is being retired. I have the Controller but the screen is too small. I have some things which may narrow down the choices so here goes: - I have a work supplied Blackberry so I don't have my own cell phone of the new fancy types (Android or iPhone), and really have no intention to get one. - I don't want anything as big (or expensive) as an iPad. - I want something that is well supported with a SB/SS interface, and can be used as a decent sofa-side Internet access device (so it should have a decent Web-capable UI). Is there anything which will fit the bill? -- tonyptony tonyptony's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91222 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Yes, I was looking at these. You should be able to pick up a used Touch or a used non-phone iphone3 for almost nothing. These old iphones can work as touch's just fine with no phone service. I checked on eBay for used iTouches but it seems so many of them have cracked screens. Is this an issue? We dropped them occasionally, but typically just scratched the outside edge or something. Never cracked a screen. And I know several people with iphones and none have cracked a screen yet. Bottom line, keep looking as you don't want one of these. (p.s. shouldn't be much difference in this regard for itouch vs iphone). -- garym Location 1: Vortexbox Appliance 6TB (1.10) SbS 7.6.2 Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) Location 2: Win7(64) laptop SbS 7.6.2 TouchBenchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio and laptop) Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controlled at both locations with: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.6 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91222 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Time to replace my Nokia 770, but with what?
I don't think it's a general iPod touch issue, I believe the issue is that since it's a very expensive thing to fix people sell them off when the screen is cracked. My experience is that the screens are actually _very_ robust. I've dropped all of my devices a lot and so far I crashed the screen of one iPhone 3 (when it fell right at a stone) and of my iPad two. The latter (iPad 2) was indeed a systematic problem that I predicted on the day I got it and has to do with the fact that the SmartCover is way to flimsy to give it any hold. A lot of people crash iPhone 4 for the same reason: it's a very slick device that tends to drop easily from your pocket. Add to that that a lot of people use the devices a lot. But it's almost impossible to scratch the screen and when it just drops to the floor the normal way chances are high it survives. I'd say better than with most other phones with similar screens. Actually the worst device in that respect may be iPhone 4(S). -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91222 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If you are getting an used iSomething, I sugests going with one that supports ios4 . I,m using an iPad 1 btw, you find it to big but they may show up used the cheap ones are with not much memory and no 3g, the 64g 3g model was 2*$ compared to the smallest option. I assume it's the same for the iPod touch if it has small memory it is useless as player, but works fine as remote. But second hand price may be better. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
