DQSD doesn't handle recursive aliases that well. Replace the ", %s"
with "gg %s /groups" and it works fine.

ggf|gg %s /groups group:alt.comp.freeware*
-group:comp.software.shareware.announce

[DQSD-Users] problem with alias

2004-11-30 Thread Tom Corcoran
Hey,

I'm wondering why I cannot use this alias in localaliases.text
ggf|, %s group:alt.comp.freeware* -group:comp.software.shareware.announce

Have I done something brain dead?

Cheers,

Tom.

Re: [work] RE: [DQSD-Users] problem settin firefox as default (even with setbrowser)

2004-03-03 Thread Randy Wallin
Thanks for getting back to me. I renamed the LocalPrefs.JS - then edited and
save the system prefs - reloaded DQSD with the ! - and it's still the same.
I did not get the same results as you did. I'm stuck on IE from DQSD - but
Avant for everything else.

Thanks again.

randy.

2004-03-02 Thread rij73
Yeah, but my localprefs file had a mistake in it after where I had that set,
and that was messing it up. Have you tried what was suggested to me:
renaming localprefs temporarily, changing launchmode to 1 in the global
prefs file, and reloading dqsd?

I have exactly the same problems, except I'm running Avant Browser.
Everything else automatically starts up Avant except DQSD. You name it:
start / run www.msn.com, desktop shortcuts, outlook urls, etc - all start
up Avant. I've downloaded all the suggested files - set browser, slim
browser, made all the changes to the localprefs.js, manually set the
associations and even renamed Avant's executable IEXPLORE to AIEXPLORE.EXE.
All to no avail - even if it does work for a bit - it cruelly stops on
reboot or logoff/logon.

Unlike others, I'm not convinced it is a Windows problem - if everything
else in Windows correctly fires up Avant - why doesn't dqsd? I won't give
up DQSD though - it may fire up the wrong browser but it's much better than
anything else I use.

If I find anything - I'll pass it on.

Randy.

oh boy oh boy oh boy! I couldn't find that html file. I did a search of my
whole C drive! HOWEVER your sugestion worked! I backed up my localprefs,
changed the launch mode in prefs, reloaded the deskbar, and it works! THANK
YOU! Turns out that I was being dumb after all. I'm embarrassed to say that
there were TWO entries for launchmode in my localprefs. I kept changing the
first one, but the second one still had launch mode as 0. D'OH! Never would
have seen that if you hadn't told me the problem might be with localprefs.
Again, THANK YOU.

Does Firefox startup if you directly double-click a .html file? The one
dqsd is executing is in your temp folder and is called DQSDLaunch.html.
Find this file and double-click it and see which browser starts.

Could there be some formatting problem with your localprefs.js file causing
it to not load properly?

Try this -
Rename localprefs.js to take it completely out of the equation and set
launchmode=1 (not 2) in preferences.js

/* Browser launch mode
*  0=use IE
*  1=use default browser
* 2=auto (launches in IE directly if IE is default browser) [default] */
launchmode=1;

Something to try..

Monty

Re: [work] RE: [DQSD-Users] problem settin firefox as default (even with setbrowser)

2004-03-02 Thread Randy Wallin

Randy.

Re: [DQSD-Users] problem settin firefox as default (even with setbrowser)

2004-03-01 Thread Monty Scroggins
Does Firefox startup if you directly double-click a .html file? The one
dqsd is executing is in your temp folder and is called DQSDLaunch.html.
Find this file and double-click it and see which browser starts.

Could there be some formatting problem with your localprefs.js file causing
it to not load properly?

Try this -
Rename localprefs.js to take it completely out of the equation and set
launchmode=1 (not 2) in preferences.js

/* Browser launch mode
*  0=use IE
*  1=use default browser
* 2=auto (launches in IE directly if IE is default browser) [default]
*/
launchmode=1;

Something to try..

Monty

2004-03-01 Thread rij73
Yeah, I can see that this must be a windows problem. I'm really at wit's end
and may have to accept defeat. I had already tried manually associating
firfox with .htm, .html, and url:blah blah... That didn't work. The
reinstalling didn't work either! What I don't understand is that every other
application I have accepts firefox as the default. When I click on any link
or shortcut, even within Outlook, it fires up firefox ;-) And, like I said,
the google deskbar sends its searches to firefox. Heck, even the windows
address bar opens firefox! So, although I accept that it's a windows
problem, I just don't understand how no other applications seem to fall prey
to this windows weakness... I don't want to suggest it's a bug in dqsd, but
maybe dqsd should develop some way around this issue for those of us who
can't get it working. Why couldn't there be a preference for the path to the
browser?

Thanks all for your help!

Based on Monty's reply you could always try setting it the hard way.

I can think of 2 methods.

1. Have .htm and .html on your PC. Browse to them in Windows Explorer.

2004-03-01 Thread Monty Scroggins
My $.02

I dont think this is a DQSD problem but a failure of windows to handle the
default browser properly... I have had similar problems in the past..
Reinstalling DQSD wont fix the problem because the problem is upstream of
the toolbar. I installed Firefox. Fired it up (no pun intended :-) ) and
set it to the default browser... dqsd worked with it just fine..I then
started up IE over and over, and it *never once* inquired about setting
itself to the default browser, even though it is in the internet settings to
ask.. I started Netcaptor and it too never prompted me to set it to the
default browser (no surprise since Netcaptor is based on IE). I loaded
setbrowser and forced the default to Netcaptor. Still the default didn't
change. I tried a couple of searches and I got script errors a couple of
times and on the third or fourth attempt, VOILA! I was prompted to set my
default browser.. I accepted the change and now the default is Netcaptor
again...

Clearly there is a bug in windows that it doesn't detect default browser
settings all the time.

I would mess with the browser settings and try to get windows to recognize
the changes. DQSD merely writes out an html file and executes it.. It is up
to windows to figure out which application to load for it..

clockdelay=1000;
clockupdate=1000;
clocklongwidth=139;
reuseBrowserWindowMode = 0;
launchmode=2;

calwidth=300;
calheight=225;
cssEditorExe="MyEditor.exe";

I have the tab browser extensions installed. I still am having a problem
with not all searches opening in a new tab but at least firefox is opening
for me! Something in your system is causing a problem. Local html files open
in firefox I'm sure and no doudt you've tried complete uninstalling firefox
and dqsd and reinstalling both. Maybe try using RegCleaner,
ftp://ftp.zuzino.ru/pub/Webmasters/RegCleanerNoSetup.exe
after you have uninstalled...

I just did a complete os reinstall in the last week. Don't think this will
help but here's my localprefs.js :

I have had this problem as well and posted to it previously on the list
(albeit for Firebird and not Firefox). I recieved the same responses you
did (i.e. those listed in the documentation and which I had already
tried). Nothing worked. As of today the problem is still unresolved.

Hi,

I also use Firefox with DQSD and love it. Have you tried clicking the Set
Default Browser under Tools -> Options -> General to reset Firefox as the
default browser?
I also made a file called user.js in the profile directory that contains one
line:
user_pref("advanced.system.supportDDEExec", false);

which causes each search to open in a new tab.

Sounds like you're experiencing the sourceforge unaavailability
problem.

Disable the check for upgrade in your prefs. The next release will
correct this problem. You can add the following line to your
localprefs.js file:

checkForUpdate = false;

[DQSD-Users] PROBLEM WITH DQSD

2003-11-18 Thread munuz

I have a big problem.. when i try to do a regular
search in the tool bar and it opens up google, it no longer works. It has been
working for the past year and randomly stopped working. It gives me an errror
saying that internet ex. has to close. The funny thing is, going to a website
like if i were to type google.com still works. anyone know what is wrong
?

  All,
  I just
  downloaded and installed this product and its awesome. However, there seems to
  be a problem with making the search results "maximized". Config says to just
  input "maximized.html" into the variable and it will always max the screen.
  However when I do that and reload, an error pops up stating that the var "url"

  Any

You should be able to
right-click on the "Search" word and select "close toolbar" from the popup
menu..   The default install directory is usually C:\Program

Richard,

Try saving your DQSD search directory and its contents (defaults to C:\Program
Files\Quick Search Deskbar\), then deleting the directory entirely. Actually,
if you could zip it up and send it to the dev list
([EMAIL PROTECTED]) that would be helpful for diagnosis. After
you delete the directory entirely, try re-installing 3.1.5.

Thanks,

- What script error are you getting?
- What version of DQSD were you using that worked before you installed 3.1.5
(I'm assuming you meant 3.1.5)?
- What does it say when you open a command prompt and type "cscript //logo"?
E.g., mine says:

It should show 5.6 as the version. If not, you need an updated script
