Ref: POB 88. When I was stationed at Kodiak Alaska there were times we would interact (to put it nicely) with Russian Bear bombers near Adak and Attu with our USCG C-130's. My mail came thru the Coast Guard mail room. One day I was called into the C.O.'s office where our base security officer was holding a letter from POB 88 and had me open it in front of them. They knew I was a Ham and I had to do some explaining why a Russian Ham was sending me his QSL card. I could have lost my Top Secret clearance. Re: [Dx4win] Cannot start after update
I concur. DX4WIN lost my Country file once and would not open correctly. I have DX4WIN on two computer, a laptop for when I travel and the main home PC. I went to the laptop and copied the country file from it to a thumb drive, then copied this country file to the main PC and all was well. I then went to HELP> Check for updates and updated the latest country file. Re: [Dx4win] How do I reset the label flag on 1600 QSOs
I just want to throw in that if you discovered the mistake before you saved the log you can exit without saving and the Y will be gone when you reopen DX4WIN. In other words the log will reopen to how it was before you made the changes but did not save the changes. A warning will come up when you attempt to exit telling you the log has been modified and do you want to save the changes. You would click NO and the log is saved to as it was before you made the change. In your situation you would need to import the N1MM contest log again without having it set the labels to Y. But that might be easier than setting dates, etc. When I import a contest log or do other stuff to my log like LoTW stuff I always go to FILE>SAVE AS and right click my dxl file and send it to a USB thumb drive. Then if I mess up my contest import I can always go back to where I was before by reloading my saved .dxl file rather than using the new modified .dxl file that I made a mistake to. Re: [Dx4win] ADIF file
Like you guys, I do a monthly (or after a contest) upload to LoTW, QRZ.COM, ClubLog, and eQSL. All goes well. I am not a real eQSL user but do my uploads for those who may desire my NV cfm thru eQSL. After reading this I decided to try to download my eQSL confirmations from the eQSL website to my DX4WIN file. All seemed to go well (I had to convert their file to an adi file for DX4WIN to accept). But after the download using eQSL>confirm eQSL using ADIF file the download the eQSL cfm flag had changed to Y for every QSO in my log, even some made just a hour ago. I knew this could not be correct so I exited from DX4WIN without saving so the eQSL upload. I don't know what I did wrong uploading the eQSL website adi file to DX4WIN to make the eQSL CFM flag go to Y for each and every QSO. I am not concerned as I said I am not a eQSL user, I was just curious of how it would work. Hola Luc, There is an easier way. In the QSO Window, LoTW | Export to LoTW. This function uses the LoTW and Upload Date fields in the logbook to remember all the QSOs you have already submitted to LoTW in the past, and creates a new ADIF file containing only the NEW QSOs since the last export. You can then upload this same file to *both* LoTW and eQSL (and QRZ and HRDlog if you so choose). There is no filtering involved, as long as all your old QSOs have already been marked as uploaded to LoTW. This same flow applies using eQSL | Export to eQSL, but I never do this, because the same ADIF file for LoTW can be used for eQSL. This is an old application note, but most of it still applies: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/lotw.html 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us __ __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Dx4win] Create VUCC Map from DX4WIN Award Listing (6/23 test version)
I uploaded a new version of the "Create VUCC Map from DX4WIN Award Listing" program: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/VUCC_v3.1_20200623.exe http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/ - documentation etc. (not updated) You can find my original message here: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/dx4win/2020-June/025751.html This is what the default output now looks like: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/ad1c_2020-06-20.pdf The program looks slightly different. Here are the main changes: * Removed Output selection. The .csv file from the DX4WIN Listing can now be anywhere, but you'll still have to navigate to find it * Fixed a bug if the listing uses Frequency instead of Band. This would happen if the "Show band in MHz" box is checked on the QSO tab of your DX4WIN preferences. As a side-effect of this, I had to remove support for the 4cm (70MHz) band. If you need this, let me know. * Added two new check boxes: 1. Needed/worked (default = checked). When checked, the output will have darker NEEDED grids and lighter CONFIRMED/CHECKED grids. This will emphasize the grids you need to work, instead of the ones you have already confirmed. 2. C=S=* (default = checked). When checked, grids that are confirmed will be the same color as grids that are checked. In other words, there are only three different colors: unworked, worked and confirmed I also found a way to move the individual fields (10x10) to be adjacent to each other, without gaps. I renamed the "Field" field to be "LL Field", meaning Lower-left Field. This is how you specify what geographical area you want the output to cover. It can be a 2-letter field or up to a 6-digit grid, but only the first two letters of the field matter. I fixed a couple of other things that would cause the program to crash. Please give it a try and let me know what you think. One thing I would like to do, but is a bit of work, is to save the check box and print format settings. So the next time you run the program, you will get the same settings as the last time. I could potentially save the LL Field as well. -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

hmmthat's EXACTLY what I do with Notes for this QSO. New antenna.make a note there...when I make my first contact with that new antenna. New micmake a note on the QSO(s) with the new mic. Country deleted.make a note there (on that country that I just worked that got deleted...), etc, etc. So I guess I'm still missing the point, as you say. No problem though, it works just fine for me.so I don't have any issues. Hope others figure out something that works for them. It works perfectly to make "non-QSO" related notes as isfor me. Re: [Dx4win] Comments in logbook?
You missed the point. Tom meant non-QSO related notes (e.g., raised dipole to 60', new TS-990, new amp, North Korea added to deleted countries, etc.). QSO related notes are easy. I liked someone's idea about logging yourself and using that for personal station notes. I actually still have a paper log handy where all it is used for now is station notes. I should just use a notebook and can then file a lot of stuff in there with the notes. I have heard that recommended before but have not implemented (is it too late?). Re: [Dx4win] Create VUCC Map from DX4WIN Award Listing

Emphasize Needed grids (or something like that) It sounds like you would want both boxes checked. I'll try to push out another test version later today or tomorrow. -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] Create VUCC Map from DX4WIN Award Listing
Very nice Jim, thank you!! May I make a (radical) suggestion about color? For quick reference purposes, Confirmed and Checked are pretty much the same. Not Worked, and Worked but not Confirmed are important. How about this for colors: Confirmed = Light Gray Worked = Red or Med Gray Not Worked = Black This way, the needed grids stand out more. Thanks for ALL the great support you provide the DX community. Next time you're in MN the food & beers are on me. -- 73, Mike Cizek W0VTT -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net [mailto:dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Jim Reisert AD1C Sent: Saturday, June 20, 2020 17:21 To: DX4WIN Reflector Subject: [Dx4win] Create VUCC Map from DX4WIN Award Listing Hi Folks, I started to work on this utility again after several years. This can be used anywhere in the world, not just USA. You can see an example of the current output here: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/ad1c_2020-06-18.pdf The coloring is slightly different than before: - Black means Checked (credit given by ARRL) - Green means Confirmed (but not yet submitted) - Red means worked but *not* confirmed You may also notice a blue outline. I just added this option yesterday. It is for the Fred Fish Memorial Award from ARRL (FFMA): https://www.arrl.org/ffma I like to keep a printed copy near my operating position. For me, it works better than using F8 all the time. There is one problem that I need help with. As you can imagine, color works *great* if you have a color printer, but what happens if you only have a monochrome (black/white) printer? I printed the color result on a monochrome printer we also have in the house. The problem was that both the red (not confirmed) and green (confirmed) squares appear to be the same color (sort of a light black or dark gray). My proposal is for users who need to print the map on a monochrome printer, that I will use RED only for unconfirmed grids. Grids that are either confirmed or checked will show up in the same black color. This is to make it easier to identify grids you may need to re-work. Presumably, grids that are already confirmed are of "no interest". If you have any opinions, let me know. I've put up a beta version of the current release. You can download it from here: http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/VUCC_v3.1_20200620.exe http://dx4win.ad1c.us/VUCC/ - documentation etc. You may need to download/install this Microsoft library as well (the x86 link). https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual -c-downloads -- Jim Reisert AD1C, , http://www.ad1c.us __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Dx4win] lotw question
I would go to Jim AD1C excellent website: https://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/lotw.html and follow his instructions. There are slight differences between ver 9 and earlier versions but you should be able to figure it out. Other wise email me and I will put together a little checklist of how I do it. Re: [Dx4win] Missing Contacts
When you work with LOTW or other such stuff always check afterwards in the SAVE AS folder that you are using the DX4WIN/SAVE folder. For my purposes I use a separate LOTW folder to save my LOTW adif files. Afterwards, If I am not careful my SAVE AS folder will open to my LOTW folder and I will start saving my .dxl file into the LOTW folder instead of the DX4WIN/SAVE folder. You might also check your DROPBOX, if you have one. My .dxl files also get saved in my dropbox. Re: [Dx4win] Comments in logbook?
Yes, I agree with Jim. All kinds of info can be placed in the NOTES THIS QSO and NOTES FOR THIS CALL. For example, today I worked NB6GC. To further memorialize this QSO in the NOTES THIS QSO Window I entered Op: Jeff (as this is a club station there could be many different ops). In the NOTES THIS CALL I entered: USS HORNET AMATEUR RADIO CLUB. So if was to look up this call again in DX4WIN I would know when I last worked it, what the call represented, and the op at the time. Another example. I work the Bulgarian Saints stations (there is a new saint every month). Today I worked LZ734PA, The current monthly saint station. In the NOTES THIS QSO Window I entered Bulgarian Saints. I enter Bulgarian Saints in this window for every saint station worked. 108 since 2008, some multi bands/modes. That way I can easily find which and how many Bulgarian Saints Stations I have logged. In the NOTES THIS CALL I entered The name of the current saint for the current month. For June 2020 it is Bulgarian Saint Propodobni Petyr Atonski. Every month there is a new saint featured. You can go to http://www.lz1kcp.com/ to see who is the saint of the month. I am already on the Honor Roll so need more actives to keep me busy on Ham Radio so I now collect IOTA's, museum ships, Bulgarian Saints, and some others. 73 Alan Zack Amateur Radio Station K7ACZ Official USCG Auxiliary Comm Station Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Delta Rocket Quality Engineer, The Boeing Company, Retired Aviation Chief Warrant Officer, U.S. Coast Guard, Retired http://www.qrz.com/db/K7ACZ http://gocoastguard.com -Original Message- From: dx4win-boun...@mailman.qth.net On Behalf Of Tim moore Sent: Saturday, June 20, 2020 06:59 PM To: Tom Doligalski Cc: DX4WIN Reflector Subject: Re: [Dx4win] Comments in logbook?
