Re: [Dx4win] support for FT4

2020-06-01 Thread John, K9EL
DX4Win implemented FT4 as a sub-mode of MFSK based on the ADIF specification.
The ADIF group said the original classification of FT8 as a “mode” was a
mistake and decided to do FT4 properly.

Glad you got your problem solved Alan.

I have been using Dx4Win since version 6.xxx and it has proven to be one of
the most stable programs I have ever used. Paul certainly has done his
homework. Very powerful but easy to use. I would never change logging
programs.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN Support

2018-07-10 Thread Alan Zack
I just wanted to give Paul a big shout out for his very quick and
accurate fix to my DX4WIN program crash.
Yesterday afternoon I had performed some QSL functions and closed the
program. Later that evening I tried to open DX4WIN and it crashed. A
little window opened concerning the crash and asked if I wanted to
send a text stating my problem (bug report). I replied in the
affirmative, my email opened, and the text was sent. I went to bed
wondering what had caused the crash and what I will need to do to fix
it.

This morning when I opened my email there was a message from Paul
telling me what to check for and what to do to fix the crash. His
advice was right on, I followed his instructions and am now 100
percent back in business.

For you inquiring minds the crash was caused by my country.dat file in
my SAVE folder going away. (I don't know why or how). Paul told me to
look for a copy in my BACKUP folder. I found it and copied and pasted
it into my SAVE folder. WaLa, DX4WIN now opened and performed normally
and all my changes made yesterday were still in place. I did a quick
HELP>UPDATE which gave me the current country.dat file that makes me
all current.

Thanks for the BIG help Paul!

[Dx4win] Support for FT-817

2016-08-01 Thread Björn Ekelund
Hi all,

I enclose a .rig file for FT-817 adressing a number of issues with
using the FT-857 .rig file as a substitute:

1. The tuning is no longer locked after starting Dx4win
2. "DIG" is now recognized as RTTY, not SSB
3. "PKT" is now recognized as PACK, not SSB

Does anyone know how to make CWR be interpreted the same as CW?
Currently it is interpreted as the defaut: SSB.I havent figured this
one out.

The CAT code for CW is 2 and for CWR 3.

Thanks,

Björn

This radio 'stuff' is easy to try; especially when you have the
radio connected to your computer.

The .rig file is a fairly simple text file that is interpreted by the DX4WIN
program. Look at the rig file for the Yaesu ft-1000D; there we set the
A VFO (mode, frequency split etc) Copy from A to B, and repeat for
the A VFO again. The program 'likes' this sequence when the
A-B command is available because it is so simple!

Re: [Dx4win] support for the new Kenwood TS-990

2013-04-08 Thread ON4AOI
Jim,
I can rename the FTDX5000 to FTDX3000 and send to you,
But that doesn´t change the fact if you double click on a spot
With SPLIT that THE MODE in VFOB is not correct.

There is no mode cmd for a second VFO available because there is no
Second VFO in the FTDX3000 its only a second stack

From my previous posting

MODE command Cat manual page 12 FTDX5000 shows
P1 0: main (VFO-A)
P1:1: sub (VFO-B)

FTDX5000 cmd = MD0; = in this case reads mode from VFO-A
FTDX5000 cmd = MD1; = in this case reads mode from VFO-B

For setting the modes on FTDX5000 its something similar

FTDX5000 cmd = MD01; = in this case sets mode from VFO-A to LSB
FTDX5000 cmd = MD11; = in this case sets mode from VFO-B to LSB

First number is for the VFO selection and second number(or letter not yet
supported by dx4win) for the mode.

Page 11 from the FTDX 3000 CAT manual shows now a BIG PROBLEM
P1 = 0:fixed

Yaesu claims now also like Icom is doing over the years that there are not 2
VFO´s
Because there are not 2 receivers but only one inside the radio for them its
only a second VFO A with different stack
and not a real VFO B

Maybe with the cmd AB -- VFO A to VFO´A´(vfoB) it could work but
Need a radio here to test that out before any release

Re: [Dx4win] support for the new Kenwood TS-990

2013-04-08 Thread Joe Subich, W4TV

For the FT3K, this would probably work

Or one could use the same procedure as has been used for years with the
FT-990 and similar rigs by other software:

 RC; - Clear Clarifier
 MD#; - Set Mode
FA#; - Set Frequency (use split frequency)
 AB; - move frequency/mode to VFO B
 FA#; - Set VFO A frequency
 FT1; - enable Split

On the other hand, I do not see any significant differences between
the documented FT-950 and FT-3000 command sets. Has anyone tried used
using the FT-950 driver/setting or is the FT-950 driver making use of
some undocumented capability and thus likely to fail without notice
after a firmware update?

Re: [Dx4win] support for the new Kenwood TS-990

2013-04-08 Thread Lou Dietrich

Paul,

As I mentioned in my emails, A B is available for the FT3K

I will have a FT3000 borrowed from the Yaesu hamfest show stock and it
will be in my shack today/ tomorrow and I will beta any new rig file or
code change you come up with

Additionally, this 'problem' of VFO B not being set properly may also be
in the FT950/ 450 rig file as well...as the FT950/ 450 CAT MD command
has the first digit fixed at(0) ...zeroso a MD10 isn't valid for the
FT950or the FT450...

From the DX4WIN FT950 and FT450 rig file:

[RC-Set Mode B]
CSTR=MD10;

Unless you have incorporated something into your code which is a work
around for the FT950/ 450, setting the VFO B mode may not work there. I
do not have a FT950/ 450 to test this...

Yaesu's commands have been mostly standardized since the FT9000 PEP,
except for such nuances radios with either one or two receivers.

As I mentioned in my previous emails, you write and I'll test it!

[Dx4win] support for the new Kenwood TS-990

2013-04-07 Thread George
Is there any support for the new Kenwood TS-990 in the works? I'm using the
radio KENWOOD and it works but not quite right. It does not handle split
packet spot clicks properly.
Thanks.

 Hi Marc,

You have the option to install 8.01 in a directory separate from your
old version. If you run into bad problems with 8, just go back to the
previous version until they can be resolved.

The biggest problems are in the report manager, and the conversions of
name, QTH and frequency. If you wait to do the conversion and can live
with the small report problems, then you will probably be pretty
 happy.

 Hi Marc,

Since you already have purchased the key it is OK to
install it. It will install in a separate directory in the root
directory . My old version ( 5.02) was and still is in a directory
under the program files. So both versions are available and run from
 separate shortcuts on my desktop.

I have an issue with the reports but in many ways are
happy with the new reports. I feel my issues will be addressed and they
 are not a show stopper.

Back it up before you start and follow these notes and
you should be just fine with both version.

Re: [Dx4win] Dx4win support

2009-08-13 Thread Mel
This bug has been reported... it's an issue with a missing library...

here is the fix from K8UT:

I downloaded and installed DX4W801 and encountered an error message upon
launching the program:
The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0150002). Click OK to
terminate the application
Most users will not have this problem. DX4Win801 installed properly on 2
PCs
here but failed on my Ham Shack PC. After some troubleshooting I determined
that DX4Win needed the Microsoft Visual C redistribution library, which
can be downloaded from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-
984d-389c36f85647

DX4Win801 is now working properly on my Ham computer.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN Support For The Ten Tec Argonaut V Tranceiver

2009-07-01 Thread Bill Bridwell
I have two Ten Tec transceivers, an Omni VI Plus and a Argonaut V (Model 516).
I am using DX4WIN version 7.07.02 on two computers, one a desktop running Vista
Home Premium the other a laptop also running Vista Home Premium. I am using a
Keyspan USB Serial Adapter, set for COM Port 4, with both computers to
communicate with the transceivers, since neither computer has a serial port.

In the DX4WIN Preferences screen, under the Radio button, I have selected
Ten Tec which shows in Notes for radio Paragon II Omni VI 2.22+
compatibility. I selected a Baud Rate of 1200, which I also set in the Omni VI
Plus. Using this configuration, DX4WIN works correctly for the Omni VI Plus
using both computers, however I cannot communicate with the Argonaut V with
either computer.

Is there another radio under the DX4WIN Preferences screen that will me allow
me to communicate with the Argonaut V or is there something I am missing in the
setup? Ironically, I am feeding the output from the Argonaut V AUX 1 jack into
the sound card of my laptop and decoding PSK31 signals from the Argonaut V
using DX4WIN.

Hi George,
Did the new 7600 rigfiles I sended you yesterday work? Because
It is not clear in your mail if you used those that I wrote

Concerning MMTTY,
I only have a solution for FSK to work via the USB connection
Not for AFSK, for FSK you need to put a dll in the mmtty directory
And use EXTFSK in mmtty setup, If you don´t find the dll on the mmtty
Webpage I can sent it to you

 Guy;
I got the 7600 talking to my computer through the USB connection. The
 packet
clicks work fine to change the frequency and mode.
Now I'm trying to get MMTTY working with this set up. I can receive
 RTTY
fine but cannot send AFSK to the 7600 using the MMTTY program. MMTTY
apparently does not like the virtual Com port assigned by the Icom
 driver
 which is Com7.
I also have two sound cards in my computer so I suspect this may be my
 problem.
By the way I also have the same problem with PSK31 DigiPan. It receives
 fine
but no audio from the computer to the 7600 in transmit.
I guess this USB/7600 stuff is kinda new and I'm blazing a trail.
 Thanks for your help.

Re: [Dx4win] ICOM IC-7600 DX4WIN support?

2009-06-26 Thread K0CF
George,

I don't know if this is really the right way, but it worked
for me...

In the DX4Win main window, go to File|Databases, then select
Radios. In the box that appears, select Icom 756 Pro III,
from the Radio model drop-down list. Then from the Radio
menu, select Copy. The name in the box will change to
ICOM 756 Pro III. Edit this name to read ICOM 7600.
(Be sure to delete the from the beginning of the name.)
Now, in the Default Address box, change the 6E to 7A.
Don't change anything else. Finally, select the File menu
and click on Save Changes and Exit.

Now you will have the IC-7600 as a radio choice in the
Preferences dialog. All I had to do was select that and
everything worked!

I hope you are enjoying your IC-7600 as much as I am. What a
great radio, especially on CW. Best QSK I have ever used.

73,
Craig, K0CF

[Dx4win] support for COM ports above COM8

2008-01-06 Thread Kostas SV1DPI
I will add that i have not find a way (i believe dx4win doesn't support
right) to use the ptt of the keyer with my markv. Not big problem on cw as i
activate the vox, but big one on mmtty where i use another interface just
for it. By the way writelog does it fine...

In your question now. I believe that if you change this situation inside
windows you will solve the problem.
Startcontrol panelsystemdevice managerports
rename com5 to com11 and com11 to com5. Windows will tell you that it is
problem but i have done it with no problem. If it doesn't work make the
reverse. I don't think you loose something. My opinion, your risk

I have a new K1EL Winkeyer USB on COM11. ( Plug for the gizmo: This is a
nice kit and went together without a hitch in just a couple of hours.
 Price is right, too.)

 To get the feature support
for this recent addition to my station, I just placed an order for the
 upgrade from
6.04 to 7.03 on the DX4WIN web site.

It would be rather challenging ... as in, not really possible ... to
reconfigure this new WinKeyer to a lower COM port designation.

 I have
two hardware UART COM ports on COM1 and COM2 (which can't be moved), and
then a Digi USB-serial box on COM 2 through COM10, inclusive. Also fixed.

It looks like DX4WIN V7.03 only supports COM ports up to COM8.

How can I get my Winkeyer to operate with DX4WIN V7.03?

[Dx4win] support for COM ports above COM8

2008-01-06 Thread Alan Braun
I use a laptop as my primary computer. I use both WinKeyer and a
USB-to-serial converter, for CW and for controlling the radio. I've
found that if I ever boot up the machine away from home, without those
cables connected, and then bring it back home again to reconnect them,
both devices get assigned to new Com ports, frequently above com8. The
trick described below works fine. You must be logged in as an
administrator for this to work. The place you want to change is found
at startcontrol panelsystemdevice managerportspropertiesport
settingsadvanced. You have to separately reconfigure a port for each
device you're going to use; I've found that Windoze warnings
notwithstanding, com4 and com5 are perfectly safe to use. Once you're
finished, I think you have to reboot for it to take effect. An
additional point is that once you've done this once, you can save a
profile. Do this once you've made changes, rebooted found that they
work. The place to do that is startcontrol panelsystemhardware
profiles. It will allow you to save your current profile with a specific
name - I did mine as Radio setup - radio 4 winkey 5 so it's perfectly
obvious what's going on. There are some other options that are
self-explanatory; once you've done this you'll see a menu every time you
boot up that allows you to pick either the default profile or the one
you set up for the radio; if you don't select one in a specified amount
of time (default is 30 seconds) it will choose the default for you. Hope
this helps - it worked great for me. Of course, you have to remember to
reconfigure your logging program(s) afterwards so they see everything.
They're all different but I can help with N1MM, DX4Win and Ham Radio
Deluxe (a really nifty freeware program that controls every conceivable
function of most radios far better than any of the contest or general
loggers do!)

This is a serious pain in the a** with DX4Win. I've commented about it
several times to Paul with no response, and to Jim AD1C who
commisserates but isn't much help as he isn't the programmer. I've
always wondered why previously logged contacts can't be sacred, as you
put it, the way they are in most of the contest loggers. Also I wonder
why exceptions, where for example you change a country reference to
match where a station really is, can't be saved to a separate file
rather than put into the main country database, so that you don't lose
them every time you update the database. (Like what some word processors

Hi Gang,

I'm starting to settle into the new QTH in Brighton, CO. We still have a lot
of unpacking to do! The 2000-mile drive across country was uneventful, and the
three cats made it just fine. Even the oldest one had stopped crying by the
time we reached the NY border.

We are up and running on a Qwest DSL connection until Comcast can dig a cable
to our house later this week. I will probably NOT be bringing my CC Cluster
node back up, as I currently have no real need for it (HOA prevents me from
erecting an antenna at the new QTH). I'm not sure what my new home node will
be, but it will be a CC cluster node.

I have a few new entries for the country file, but I can't yet say when I'll be
doing another release, but certainly before the end of June.

I hope the transition to 7.03 went well for most folks. I have seen very few
complaints about unfixed bugs or things that stopped working.

I've stumbled across what looks like a problem. In preparing a DXCC
submission, I find the following:

1. First, set preference to use only card in hand, then do a DXCC
Submission. Result? ~32 cards selected
2. Clear all DXCC submission flags.
3. Set Confirmed QSO preference to Card and Upload and do a DXCC
Submission. Result ~ 80 QSO's listed (OK, so far)
4. Clear all DXCC Submission flags.
5. Set confirmed QSO pref to Upload and do a DXCC Submission. Result?
314 QSO's!! Clearly wrong.

Obviously DX4WIN is somehow not counting the already submitted cards when
it does uploads. Since these all relate to the same DXCC award, this
would appear to need some work.

Another item: Where is version 7.03 on the US web site? I had to go to
ON4AOI's site to pick it up so I could update my version.

Please do not send DX4WIN support questions to me directly. Instead,

Hello, friends! I was out of the reflector for some time. Sorry if this
question already discussed here. My setup is Icom IC-756PRO3
connected to my notebook via Icom CT-17 and RS232-USB interface cable.
DX4WIN wersion is 7.02, and it don't read data
if in Add-Real time mode. It's mean that I always have SSB in Mode window
and 20m in Band window. No matter how many times I push F9. Only if I'm
trying to announce DX to DX-cluster (Alt-A), it's read data from the
TRX, but very often QRG is incorrect with some idiots digits like 414
403,00 instead of 14 144.03. If switching to 7.01 all is fine with
Band window, but Mode is still incorrect. The other software like Ham
Radio Deluxe work perfect.
Any solutions please?

Short phone call and he analyzed what had happened
and he had seen this corrupted Config file occurrence
and he talked me through getting the problem solved
and I am up and running again.

Now, the important part about this is that I regularly,
and I repeat, REGULARLY create and keep a backup

and this seemed to have helped me get back all the
info and all I needed to do was re-add some of the QSL
info and cards received since the last backup and I was
back up to speed.

Again, a BIG THANKS for the help and guys, the tech

would have been a nightmare, and might have taken
some time to even figure out.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN support

2004-05-31 Thread Steve Bookout
Hello all,

Just to make it absolutely clear...

I do not, have not and do not intend to do any support thru reflector requests.

As it has always been in the past, if you want or need support, send an
email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The first time I had anything sent directly to the 'support' address
regarding a packet connection problem was on 31 May (today.) The inference
in the email, which I have seen posted here, was that support was asked for
a week ago, but not given. This is not the case.
If you want help, ask, but you do actually need to ask.

I do not have time to monitor the reflector, and I don't. I just catch up
on events when I get the time.
The reflector is intended for the users for their DX4WIN discussions, and
not any official email route to me. I may eventually see the email, but it
may not be in a timely manner.

Have a good holiday.

and there is a real possibility that DX operations may adopt LOTW as the
primary way of providing credit for DXCC as it's cost free and fast...

There is similar discussions on other logging software reflectors also.
You just can't get away from it Steve ;-)

How about a separate reflector just for LOTW ?

And when LOTW and ARRL move on from the beta and actually
inform software developers of their strategic direction then
modifications may be made rather than a change for change sake !

Sorry but LOTW is taking up a lot of bandwidth on here
recently and I'm of the old school if it aint broke don't
 fix it !!.

Steve,

I agree to some degree; I would like the discussions about LOTW
to be limited to the DX4WIN context.

[Dx4win] Support for LOTW

2003-10-25 Thread Mel
OK As I see it...

I don't think you need to do anything about eQsl... It isn't
necessary... It stands on it's own and keeps track of it's own awards.
I've been using eQsl for quite a long time... And all you need is an
easy way to upload the QSOs. Batch mode ADIF is fine... In future a
real-time upload could be considered, QSO by QSO... But let's see what
LOtW does about this and you can kill 2 birds with 1 stone... Besides
you have to save something for ver 7 ;-)

I believe ADIF needs to be fixed up for satellite QSOs (I forwarded you
some info on this), as well as perhaps standardizing the modes to make
life easier all around.

We need a flag to indicate uploaded to LOtW and then confirmed LOtW...

Perhaps we should have a separate procedure to create an ADIF file that
keeps track of dates submitted, and updates the LOtW uploaded flag.

We need to be able to read the ADIF output from LOtW to update award
status and the LOtW confirmed flag...

This will hold us until a real-time interface is defined and debugged...
Which may be a while yet.

And of course, you should create fields for frequency, Operator's name
and QTH in the database... ( and don't forget the PTT configuration
issue for Roger and others...) None of this has absolutely nothing to do
with LOtW, but I thought I would remind you ;-)

And, since I've broached the subject or ver 7 (Dayton `04 would be a
good target), it might be time to reconsider one of the cornerstones of
DX4Win`s design... The `in memory` file was a terrific idea in the days
of slow hardware... I'm sure it was part of the reason that DX4Win was
considerably faster than competing logging programs. But I think, with
much faster hardware the norm, that the need for speed has been
superseded by security concerns... Perhaps it's time to adopt a more
conventional approach and read/write directly to disk...

OK, I'll shut up now...

 Hi,

I have been reading most of the exchanges about this topic,
and came up the following ideas / questions.

 1. Support for a few more 'confirm flags'; see below

 2. Add a function to the logbook import mechanism to use the
QSOs to set the confirm flag in the existing log. The
imported QSOs will not be added to the existing log, they are
only used to change the confirmation flag.

 3. Some small changes are needed in the ADIF export
(mode=PSK31 and one band needs a different format. (These
 changes have been made already)

 4. I have no immediate plans to integrate LOTW functionality
INSIDE DX4WIN (Key management, sending / receiving logs etc.)
Many of you have already exported a log to ADIF and used that
log to upload QSOs. The LOTW software makes the required
 steps simple.

 Confirmation flags:

Currently, we only have Yes / No, and the Yes flag implies
that you have the QSL card in your possession. With services
like the LOTW, we will need an extra status to indicate an
 electronic confirmation.

 Some issues / questions:

I assume 'Card in hand' and 'electronic confirmation' need to
 co-exist, ie
 all four combinations are possible.

I'm not sure if we need more than one electronic confirmation
 flag (to
distinguish between LOTW and eQSL for example) Does this really
add value or does it add confusion? To distinguish between
LOTW and eQSL for example leads to eight combinations.

I can also see that other 'awards issuing organizations' may
 establish their
 own electronic logbook services.

Do we need to distinguish what type of confirmation (card or
 electronic)
can be used for an award?

 Interested in your ideas,

 Paul

Absolutely. Probably only LOTW to begin with since
eQSL's are not accepted by ARRL.

Yes.

As long as we can export and import and set the LOTW confirm flag by hand
where necessary I don't see any need for additional support.

It's going to be a real can of worms.

Greetings,

It's been a while since I contacted all users of QSL.NET. I hope things have
been going well for you and that you are using your QSL.NET web site and e-mail
address. If for some reason you no longer need it please let me know your ham
call so I can delete your site.

We are at a critical time for funding. Donations have been almost non-existent
for the last 6 months. I need to remind you again that QSL.NET exists only with
your support, if you use a web page, list server or e-mail here then help us
keep it on-line and free. If we do not get financial help like all good things
it will disappear as we know it today. I realize it is easy to take QSL.NET for
granted but please help us keep it free by sending a donation
immediately.next month may be to late.

Our immediate needs are to build 2 mirror web servers as we have had offers to
co-locate them gratis, this will help our reliability. The mail server and FTP
server need to be replaced as they have been spinning for over 2 years and are
seriously overloaded. Again this will only be done with your help. The costs
of bandwidth is still our largest expense over $1600 a month.

ANNOUNCING THE FIRST QSL/QTH RADIO GIVE AWAY.

A generous user has donated 4 of the NEW MODEL Yaesu VX-150 HT's ($150 value).
