I've just completed s/n 6222 (no ATU yet)and have a question concerning

First, ensure you are tuning into a 50 ohm dummy load. The K2 power
calculations are based on the assumption that there is exactly a 50 ohm

I use a MFJ-4103 for traveling with my K2. The output is fixed and
isn't enough to charge the battery, but it is small and lightweight.
I haven't noticed any switching noise.

quite. You can get it for $69 if you look around a bit on the web. I'd
stay away from the gamma research supply-- it's VERY noisy.

Different manufacturers use different body colors - the Elecraft manuals
are slowly being scrubbed to eliminate any references to body colors as
identifying markings - the only real markings that count are the color
coded bands.

While there is nothing wrong with testing it in the EC2, that throws two
or mare variables into the equation - the KIO2 and the cables.
I recommend that you first do the setup and testing with the KPA100
laying upside down on the right side of the K2 with the normal
connections.
I use a 7 amp gel cell for my K1 and it works great. I haven't spent
much time on the air lately but a charge would last for a month or so
and I could use a VW solar panel to keep it charged when in use
outside. That size battery would keep a couple of leds going for light
during the night time

There are many types of cable designated RG-6 and RG-59. Many are not
designed to handle rf voltages typical of ham transmissions. My
suggestion is to be *careful* what you select. Good quality RG-59, the
type broadly used by hams many years ago, is hard to find right now.
