Leaving aside the proprietary codec, much of the specification has been implemented as open source software; for those that don't like the codec, there is work progressing on a replacement, which I am following closely. For what it's worth, this is the second time today I've had this debate,

Don, In a pinch, you can run to the local hardware store or good DIY emporium and look in the drawers for some suitable substitute with 10-32 threads. When you settle down from the current event, you can order the proper replacements from Elecraft - unfortunately, you will have to order it
