I've had a distinct channel imbalance problem developing slowly, I suspect,
for about a year or more on my K3. I discovered very recently that it is

Tom,
Try the following:
1) download new firmware files from Elecraft
2) Load only the DSP firmware to the K3
3) once the DSP firmware has been loaded, then load the MCU and FP firmware.
I suggest this order because there may have been some changes in the MCU
code that depend on a response from

I don't know what is going on, but I suggest you turn the headphones
backwards as a test to see if the imbalance might be in the heardphones
or in your ears. If it switches sides with the headphones backwards,
the problem is external to the K3.
As far as the 'high tone' is concerned,
Larry,
You *should* be able to do the firmware upgrades with the cabling in place.
Of course, if you have any difficulty, the first order of
troubleshooting is to isolate the gear that is producing problems.

Hello friends,
I'm curious who has tried an SO2R setup of K3 as primary, and KX3 as
secondary radios in a SO2R set up. If you did, did you find anything
out of the ordinary with respect to the KX3 being the secondary radio?
More prone to interference from the primary radio (or vise-versa)?

What exactly is the function of this device? Does it give you 8 separate serial

These replaced Weller stations which required a significant spare parts

John,
I am no help regarding the XV-144 use with JT65 (I do not have the XV-144).
But JT65 does not require a linear amplifier. It is FSK and will
work with any amplifier that works with CW, including
Class-C and Class-E. Of course it will work with linear's if that is

Yes. Exactly. 8 separate serial ports fed from a single USB port.
There are many different types of these devices. The one I use has one
USB connector and 4 cables with DB9 connectors already attached - which
makes it very convenient to hook up everything requiring a serial port

I am having a problem with T/R switching in my K3. The symptom is that,
after I transmit, the receive signals are sometimes very attenuated.
This problem has gotten worse. At first, simply a quick tap on the PTT
switch fixed everything, but now, at least on phone, I must make a brief
+1 for the Gearmo 4-port. It is FTDI based and works flawlessly on OS X. Hard
to beat for $50. I use it in tandem with a couple of KUSB's and KXUSB's to
connect all of my Elecraft gear to my Mac. No need to do any cable swapping.
Everything has it's own, dedicated USB/Serial adapter!
John,
There is no way that I know of to sync the XV series LO to any
standard. The crystal oven along with configuring the XV LO to be
powered anytime there is voltage on the XV transverter input will help a
lot.
The K3 itself can be synced to an external standard with the EXTREF

Phil.
I have a Hakko 936, but your question does not relate to the specific
soldering station. I prefer a narrow chisel tip, so the 4mm would be my
choice. Used 'sideways', it will work similar to a conical tip, but has
enough flat area to handle most thru-hole soldering jobs.

Jan,
Before deciding it is a K3 problem, take a look at your antenna system

As Don suggests, the problem can be anywhere in the antenna system, and
in my experience it is much more likely to be a connector than the K3.
I once had a similar problem that drove me nuts until I discovered a
corroded solder joint INSIDE an encapsulated balun.
