The last time I had to do this and didn't have a dedicated tool, I took a Chinese take-out bamboo chopstick and carved it to fit the slug. It's fairly easy to do and if you mess it up you just cut off that part and try again. The bamboo is strong but easy to carve, and it's non-magnetic of course.
