Ummm ... be careful to not overplay this.  "Hacked your email" is usually taken to mean "breaking into your email client."  That's not really what is going on.  Our email addresses permeate the Internet and are fairly easy to harvest.  Likewise, forging a fake originator's address when sending

Those "do you order from Amazon?" emails are part of a scam to get you to purchase gift cards. They hack an email address, and send emails as the person whose account they hacked. They get you to buy a gift card "for a family member with X disease" or something like that, and send them the code.

OK, so you have an automated response from some computer that such and such email was received. It still hasn't gotten to the person it needs to go to, so maybe if you send your email with a request for a Read Receipt, you'd at least know that a PERSON had looked at it, and checked the BOX.

An automated response to an initial email should be standard practice in business. This lets the sender know they at least have the correct email address, and should list the times the business is open, etc. Not all email applications have the read receipt function. I disagree with you.

Dave, Please *not* Yahoo groups! While it is popular, it has many drawbacks for me. I find it just as difficult (and even more) to find a particular post on the web version as it is in the digest form of this or any other reflector. At least some of the formats of this reflector offer
