Just as I indicated in my last post, set L30 slug midway and then adjust
the spacing of the red turns on T5 until you get close to 6 volts, and
then adjust L30 to finish up.

Contact k2supp...@elecraft.com about that problem - in the meantime, do
not wear out the core of L30, just set it to about the halfway location.
Instead compress or spread the red turns of T5 to see if you can obtain
the proper R30 voltage.
It is not likely that L30 is the fault, but

Hi,
I have got to the VCO alignment stage of aligning my K2.
I have got 7.4 volts on R30, this does not change when turning the core in L30.
The core moves but does not appear to move up or down so I suspect that the
VCO inductor is damaged.
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

Brad,
It is good to hear you are using the special cable. Do NOT plug a
standard serial cable into the AUX IO connector, that can damage both
the K2 and the serial port.
First, check to see if the PORT menu setting is ON.
That is in the secondary menu (enter the menu and tap display to get
Remembering that the DB9 jack on the back of the K2 is not RS232, if an
RS232 device like a USB/serial cable was ever plugged in directly, stuff

used to talk to the 100w amp and tuner mounted externally.

While I continue to review the list archives, I am requesting feedback from the

Tom,
If you know the original purchaser (and to help, the approximate date of
purchase), the folks at Elecraft may be able to dig that out of their
files. Send an email to sa...@elecraft.com to inquire. A new serial
number sticker can be made for a nominal price ($1 or $2 if I recall).
Bryan,
I don't believe you can determine the original serial number without the
original packing slip/invoice. Alternatively, Elecraft -may- be able to look
it up, if you have the original owner's name and/or call sign. If you -can-
determine the serial number, a replacement sticker can be

Jerry,
The best way to recover is to remove the plastic from the P1 body and
then remove the pins from the board one at a time. You may be able to
slide the plastic bar off, but if not, break it with your cutters.
Clean up with solder wick, and if solder remains in the holes, a heated
You do not lack the skill needed, but you will need a new connector! You can
get one from
Elecraft.
Cut the old one off with your flush-cutting wire cutters. Just cut through the
plastic.
Then remove the pins one at a time. Clean the holes with solder wick. Install
the new one.
That's it.
I'm ashamed to say I did the same to my K1 recently!
I contacted Elecraft support and Gary advised I pull off the plastic
covering for the connector with pliers, and then remove the pins one by one.
I suggest you Email them pronto!

The first thing to do is swap the cables - you may have a wiring problem

If the cable is not the problem, tell me if you are dealing with a KIO2

Dave,
I believe you are overthinking things (or looking at the wrong P5).
Unless you have installed a ty-wrap on the speaker lead and the KIO2
cable quite close to the AUX board there should be no interference.
The P5 that the speaker plugs into is on the RF Board, not on the
