The transmitter gain of the K2 is definitely not uniform, but different on
every band. This is problematic when trying to run digital modes, where the
audio input needs to be adjusted on every band.
I wonder if you have lower gain on 20m because you have a transmitter alignment

Ed,
Instead of trying different microphones, I suggest you modify the KSB2
option board to reduce the bass response.
Change C34 to a 0.47uF electrolytic capacitor and C32 to something in
the range of .0043uF to .0056uF and you will reduce the bass response
significantly. Those are values re

Steve,
The K2 can be configured to use several different microphones.
You will have to examine the microphone configuration header on the back
of the front panel to determine which microphone that K2 is set up to
use. See the KSB2 manual for how it can be wired for the various
microphones.
Out of the box all pins on the microphone connector are open circuit.
There is an internal jumper block that has bias free microphone audio
and resistor free 5 volts on it. If you are seeing 5 volts on pin one
on the external connector it is because someone has wired 5v to it.

If it has AF on pin 1, PTT on pin 2, and the return paths on pins 7 and

will have to wire them.

Any of the Heil mics designed for the Icom will work FB with the K2 -
just wire the configuration header for Icom (including the resistor -

Most Icom mics work well with the K2, but you did not specify which ones you

Hi Scott,
Both HM36 and HM12 work well with my K2. In fact, KSB2 is very
accommodating. It also works well with most Kenwood mics like MC43s. I
have recently bought an Azden mic (dynamic moving coil, made in Japan). The
mic only costs me US$20 but works very well with my K2 as well.

Yes, it is going to be hard since you have already cut the cable. It IS

Lloyd,
I'm mostly a CW guy myself, and can understand why someone might not

I think I would reconsider that. Even though you don't wish to ever

and having the mic jack installed would probably increase the value.

I thought for sure that my K2 came with the mic jack (#370). It's been so
long I can't remember for sure. I did get some plastic hole plugs for the
unused holes on the back panel from a hardware store that snapped in and
worked great until I finished filling them all with accessories.
