By my definition, a remote program is one that allows you to use the radio from another location, via a radio or Internet link. If you just want a program to run on the computer next to the radio then MixW would be my choice. It supports more data modes than any other program, plus SSTV and

You shouldn't need any special drivers. I have used a USB/Serial adaptor with Mandrake without any problems. I can't remember the details but you simply use /dev/USBtty0 or whatever port you are on. Do a google and you will find the details; it's quite straight forward. I would use Linux more
