Slowly, ever so slowly over the years, I shifted from QRP CW, mostly with
the K2, to 100w SSB, with the K3 and a couple of other rigs, operating only
on a couple of SSB nets.
And then I read Wayne's post. And the responses.
And looked at the K2 on the desk, connected but unused, gathering dust.
Thanks for sharing, Wayne.
I vaguely recall a piece of a long poem published in QST many years ago
that I read at my Elmer's house, noting everything he did, before going
home to my trusty nth hand National NC-125 receiver and homebrew am/cw
transmitter (how I envied his DX-100, the "Benton

If one is looking only for the occasional higher power output, I have been
using a Tokyo Hy-Power 50w amplifier with my 12w K2 (and other QRP rigs) for
some time now. Just half an S-unit (nominally) below 100w. I don't know if
THP still makes the 50w amp, but I recall it as not
Colleagues:
Am looking for assistance in rewiring an Astatic D-104 Astatic microphone
(T-UG9 stand) for use with my K3 and K2 transceivers. The mic is presently
wired for 4-pin Ten-Tec.
Any assistance would be greatly, and gratefully, appreciated.

I have an older K2/10 (serial 868) which has worked very well for years.
Today I suddenly became aware of a problem: I can't change the frequency
using the tuning knob (yes, I did check the frequency lock).
The final frequency number on the display blinks (eg: the 4 in 14301.24)

I had a similar experience a few months ago.
They sent me free replacements for all six sets of knobs in the lower

You think I would now buy from any other ham transceiver

If this is the case one would need to open the outlet box and replace the
exploded MOVs.
Or purchase a new outlet strip, open it up, and install an MOV across each
pair of wires (three in all). Try Radio Shack.

The Radio Shack part number for the MOVs is: 276-0568.
Three wires in the outlet strip. Solder an MOV across each pair of the three

Very, very soft pops (start-up and shut-off) here on the K3; much softer
than the pops on the K2. The pops on both radios (internal speaker or

?The only issue is rig quality, and Elecraft has that in spades.
After two K2s, two K1s, and a K3 my only question is: how do I get rid of
the Japanese stuff in Belize (with internet, ham radio is oh, so passe.
Can't even give the older rigs away). But no, I will never sell the 430s;

I didn't see your earlier post, but I am interested in finding out how the

Nothing doing; takes an age (5 hours at least, endless reports of retries),

Thank you very much.

Please accept my apologies for asking a question that may have been dealt
with before.
My K3 (running version 3.06 software) gives a loud, short, sharp audio burst
on turn-on. The sound doesn't seem to last longer than about a half-second,
but it is loud. This happens even if the audio gain is

Lenny,
I have more than 20 CF lamps ranging from 13w to 42w and from several

I am sure that you can find evidence of the effect of weather on rf (see

One of the things I notice is that cw signals sound weaker while it is
raining. I always thought that that was because the rain was washing some
of the rf out of the air, leaving a smaller amount of radio
