[Elecraft] P3 REF LVL adjustment
Hi All, I can set the ref lvl to say S4 on the display (Top Band) and then tune around fine but if I switch to another band then the ref lvl will sometimes change and others not. if I go through several band changes and eventually back to top band The P3 ref lvl maybe back where I left it but not always. Hi John, I would check the s/w versions of each of the rigs and kpods to make sure they are all the same. try exchanging one kpod with the other and see if the led on stays with the rig or the kpod. [Elecraft] Diversity / aux RX problem
Hi Guys, I built my K3 a couple of years ago complete with second RX. Until now I have only used the ANT 1 and ANT 2 inputs but thought I would try some diversity. Having an inv L mainly set for top band and 40m dipole I thought I might move the 40m dipole to the RX AUX port and listen to the diversity system. Now no matter how I play / switch things the RX AUX port sound is dead. I know the antenna is good because I can plug it into the unused ANT port and rx on both the INV L and dipole with slightly different reception. putting the set into diversity holding the SUB button for a couple of sec shows diversity and the rx goes stereo in the headphones. What I dont get is the sub channel audio no matter what I do with the RX ANT switch. Just for completeness I can rx two things one on vfo A and another on vfo B in contests etc. Am I doing something wrong or do I have a hardware fault or event a build issue from the start. I will publish what and when etc so anything off reflector will not be lost as all will be consolidated into one list. [Elecraft] KPOD toggle macros?
Hi all, The Kpod currently has no facility to do much more than initiate a key tap / hold with no facility to interrogate. This I believe will all change when the ability to control the PC feature is enabled / built as then PC applications can be built to send what ever command is required to the K3 and that will include getting a status back on which a decision can be taken. [Elecraft] Change in K3 firmware for KPA1500
Hi Just a thought. Will there be a change tot he K3 firmware to support the KPA1500? When a KPA500 is attached to the K3, the K3 knows if the KPA500 is on and active and changes the drive level accordingly, however should a KPA1500 be attached as well, the K3 will have to know which amp is active and on which antenna port (and band) if more than one is present as in the case of the ATU board. Is this a feature in the to do list or does it actually exist but no one has seen / used it yet. The same could have been said if two KPA500 where attached. I am considering a KPA1500 but having in the last 6 month bought a SPE 1.3k FA and got to like it. Now I am not sure what to do. What I like about the SPE is the two i/p and four antenna ports. What I like about the KPA1500 is the full integration both electrically and ergonomically as well as the pin diode switching. The slight increase in power is not an issue. If I didnt have the SPE i would definitely have had a KPA1500 to go with the K line (Kpod,K3,KAT500,KPA500,P3). Now I have to think of part chopping the SPE! 73 de Tony G6GLP --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K-POD Issue solved
Hi Guys, You may remember I reported an issue with the K-Pod missing key presses etc. Since it was intermittent you can never be sure you have fixed the problem. Last night I was having a little play in the 160m contest and the k-pod started to play up almost 50% of the time so I had to do something. I picked a snap on toroid out of the misc box I have on the desk and clipped it on. I have no idea of the value type or anything else but magically the problem stopped. So it is/was RF getting in down the k-pod to K3 connecting lead. I am using the factory supplied lead and since it is quite short and nothing to do with the fact I couldnt fit more than one turn through the toroid if I wanted to the toroid is just one turn clipped over the connecting cable. While I shouldnt say its cured I can say my problems went away for the rest of the contest that I took part in. Time will tell if the problem on other bands have gone as well or I may require another toroid. 73 to all es gdx Tony G6GLP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] K-POD missing a beat
Hi All, I have had the K-Pod some time now and have been more than happy with it. I modded the K3 with the 6.8 ohm R so that I only need to use the rj45 cable supplied to connect the K3 and K-Pod together. I have, being lazy, programmed F3 to simulate M1 which works fine most of the time. When it works I press the F3 and MEM 3 appears on the K3 display and the contents of M1 are send (my call in CW). Occasionally only the MEM 3 appears and the M1 contents are not sent. I know its easy enough to just press F3 again and it will work but thats not the point. Has anyone else seen this or similar and found the fix? I thought it maybe RF getting in but it happens on various bands so while not impossible, it is unlikely (OK prove me wrong). Another Suggestion is to read the instruction book first then mark up any pages that have amendments in order not to miss or undertake procedures. 73 de Tony G6GLP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Re: [Elecraft] New products
Hi All, I thought I might put my oar in on this; New products need a market is true and trying to second guess it is another story. How would I go about developing a new product? I believe that we need to see a gap in the market since we are not going to create a new market like texting. The size of the addressable customer base needs to be large enough to support the development cost. One thing that many people see as improvement is the touch screen, while I support development in this area it is not core functionality to our hobby (can I see the flack coming on that?). The KX2 and K-POD are good examples of pushing the new product while building on current development ( no I dont have an inside view of the products but it stands to reason). Who was it that said there are many Japanese VHF txcvrs? The latest trend is into the digital coms so something in that area maybe the next thing but I would recommend an open source approach to the digital coms to get others helping with the future development of repeater type multi channel things. I would personally be more interested in an integrated larger HF amp or even a combiner to use say three KPA500 to achieve the higher output. If my fantasy radio was developed it would be quantum based system that would allow you call through other dimensions over vast distances with out any propagation delay. Maybe in a few thousand years :-) 73 de Tony G6GLP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K-Pod order status
Hi All, With all this talk about the KX2 and its order status the mention of the K-POD seems to have lost focus in the list here. I hope the KX2 status will or is not having an impact on the delivery status of the K-POD. The info I have is it will start shipping around 13 June a short two weeks away. Due to postal delays etc I am wondering if it will be possible to collect it from the Elecraft stand in FHN. Also will other items be available on the Stand, as last year there was nothing for sale as I remember. 73 de Tony G6GL:P __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] KX2
Hi All, I like the look of the KX2 and would consider getting one. I wonder if there is to be a glut of KX3s being off loaded in the near future like the K3 when the K3S came out. Failing that I might see what they have at FHN in a few weeks. I know there is to be an Elecraft stand but I am not sure what items they will have on saleor could Eric bring that and a K-Pod over for me;-) Not sure how or what currency I would pay in Euros USD or debit of my plastic? Its good to dream so I have ordered the K-Pod as a min. 73 de Tony G6GLP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] P3 Display of split
Hi Bill and others, The split macro does move the B vfo up by 1khz but this is not shown on the display (Red band) until i manually move the B vfo even just one digit. The prob is not data cable cons but thanks for the thought. I may try changing the order of some of the things in the macro or even add a delay (;). I will keep you posted 73 de Tony G6GLP On 22/04/2016 20:53, Nr4c wrote: If you're saying "with both VFOs on same freq, the P3 doesn't show the red band indicating that VFO B is the TX freq. [Elecraft] KPA500 Asterix staying on
Hi All, I thought some of you might like to hear about my little exploit. It concerns my KPA500 going deaf. I know a lot has been said here about it and how to fix it. Well mine seemed to develop a deafness on rx in OPER mode. When it happened I noticed that there was an asterix on the display and couldn't understand why. The story is that on one of my antenna ports from the ATU I have several Antennas which get switched in by relays driven from a home made box that decodes the band info from the K3. This weekend I put up another antenna and did away with all the switching but left the control box connected and switched on. However when I switched it off the RX stayed ok until the amp went into TX and wouldn't go back to rx. The asterix stayed on. It seems the power drain on the data lines etc was sufficient to drag them low and prevent the "PTT" going back high. Removal of the controller or re powering it solved the problem. The problem was self inflicted but I did solve it quickly but thought the story maybe of help to some one else who does the same silly thing. 73 de Tony G6GLP __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Noise Power Ratio and the K3 with new synthesizer?
Hi Rick, I have had similar types of issues and found with the help of Elecraft Support that the problem was the seating of the AUXBUS cables. Mine would seat one side or the other but not both. I used a knife to par off a little notch in the cable housing to allow it to fit over the retaining nut. I even tried to line the nuts up so the sides were vertical but this didn't work. Hope you find the problem soon its a great system when all working together. 73 de Tony G6GLP On 16/03/2015 18:02, Rick Stanback wrote: I just completed the build of my KAT500 and KPA500 and I had the following issues. I am still not able to hit the tune button on the KAT500 and get the K3 to xmit and tune. If I hit the button and then hit the tune button manually on the K3 it tunes? KPA500: When I first powered up the display would say KPA500 for a bit then Invalid?? Then if I put the amp to oper it would immediately get the 270v fault. I took it apart and inspected all the connections including the ribbon cables and although I did not find anything out of place or not seated when I put it back together it seems to just work? I have made a few contacts and everything seems to be OK. The amp follows the K3 band with no problems. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Elecraft] Split operation - display of Transmit frequency on keydown
To add a little more fuel to the fire there is another option that could keep the two sides happy. If the main display was to show the active frequency on RX and on TX. I.E when in split mode change the main display to the TX frequency the RX freq then being shown on the sub display and reverting back as you go back to RX. This feature could be enabled or disabled by a flag in config. I am sure there are many more alternatives that are worthy of a consideration. 73 de Tony G6GLP On 18/02/2015 11:10, Vic Rosenthal 4X6GP/K2VCO wrote: I think as you and W4TV have pointed out, there isn't a problem in determining that SPLIT is on. Not noticing that it's OFF is the issue! Wayne can make the radio sit up and whistle 'Dixie' when SPLIT is on and it will not help. I used to be prime cop meat until I made a macro to turn on SPLIT as well as set VFO B up a couple of kHz. What caused my error was that I was so focused on finding the station working the DX with VFO B, that I forgot the extra button press. My solution was to combine turning on SPLIT with offsetting VFO B. Either the user can make a macro, or Wayne could implement the much-discussed programmable SPLIT feature.
