Well Rich,
Guess you are a late comer.
I got my ham license at age 14 and I am now 77. I've been married 18

getting "saddled" with me (western sayin). That was the good news and
the bad news.

Some guys were sending .jpeg's back and forth on 80m this morning and I asked
them what program they used.
All were using EasyPal from EasyPal.org (free) .
So I received several pix from the group but was never able to transmit.

Hi All
Update on the K2 and its problems or now lack of them.
Finished setting up the filters and other than getting ‘low Batt’ indication
now and again all appears to be well.
Fitted the KAF2 and set up the clock, that taxed my grey cell but managed it in
the end.
Just need to give it an on air

I'm partial to the Kev-Flex kevlar core wire sold by Dave Cripe Nm0s. It's
small in diameter, wicked strong, and the PVC jacket is slick as snot on a

lengths, but if you want a longer piece, just drop a note in the order and
I was using the Coghlan’s laundy reels, but it took a long time to wind up the
wire, they would bind (not smooth turning), and would pop open when dropped.
Now I use the Midi Winders from SOTAbeams. Wind the wire on in a figue-8, no
kinks and quck to get on and off. SOTAbeams makes three
I have got a k144xv transverter and fm filter that I was going to install for
vhf contesting and wound up with another option in the shack before I could get
this installed.
k144xv - $375/shipped (48 states)
fm filter - $125/shipped (48 states)

No. See my post in this thread about resonance.

Others can speak more authoritatively about this, but I thought those
clamp-on cores, where they go right on the existing run of coax, offered
too little inductance to be of much use below VHF. Experts?

Hi,
Having difficulty loading latest version of the Kat500 utility. The
version I have is 01.75, the utility indicates that 2.05 is available. However
the new version does not load but the message “ Input hex file is corrupt,

Pete,
Yes. You either have to have lots of them, or you need to get bigger ones and
run multiple turns through them. Also get the right “mix” for the frequency
range in question. Type 31 is pretty good for HF.
Not an expert, but studied http://k9yc.com/RFI-Ham.pdf
The KAT500 Utility software is v1.21.9.15. Use it to download and install the
KAT500 v02.05 firmware.
Have you tried under Windows?
It's always worked perfectly for me.

Just checked my KAT500 and it had V1.75 installed. Then with the KAT500
Utility, version 1.21.9.15, I did download the firmware from the
Elecraft site and install V2.05 into my KAT500. I saw no issues.

That's right, sort of. But it misses the
The impedance increases with the square of the turns. 2 turns = 4 times
the impedance. It would take 4 chokes in series to equal one choke with
2 turns. A "turn" is one pass through the middle. More turns is better
until we get to very large chokes where the inter-coil capacitance
lowers
For those using the clamp-on ferrite devices, when installing them, be
sure part A closes completely and solidly contacts part B. Otherwise,
there is no flux path and the device is ineffective. If it is closed
and loose on the cable, then that's good. If it is closed or difficult

They're not very similar, they're identical! There's literally a website

place that sells kite winders.
