Kevin,
You do provide valid points. However, how many times have you shucked
out $60 or $80 for a referenced standard, only to receive a 15 page
document? I have, a few times, which makes me very reluctent to rush out
and buy everything that is referenced. If the standards were "reasona
Hi Listmembers:
Today's weird science question is about sensing the strength of a permanent
magnetic field.
I need to expose an electronics box to a strong magnetic field (10 Gauss).
Then, after removing the field, I need to approach the box with a "compass"
and note the separation distance need

Most of the world entered the information some decades ago. The
greatest leap forward has been the advent of the internet. I need not
elaborate on how quickly one can get information on almost any topic at
their workstation via the internet.
Sadly, the world of standards is stuck in the 1950's.
Our company makes laboratory equipment so we perform radiated emissions test
per EN55011 and apply the CE marking according to EN50081-2 or EN61326-1.
Some of our products would fall under the Class A Group 2 category in EN55011,
but neither the EN50081-2 or EN61326-1 seem to address this route.
Nick, et al,
Dare I suggest this? Why don't we create a large standards depository on the
web and have all of these standards hyper-linked together. Then, for a
reasonable subscription fee, one could log in and read any standard in
existence. Best of all, one could take the hyper-jump to that spe
You can only use this clause if your equipment will not be mounted above
other equipment in the telco frame. So basically, if your equipment
occupies the entire 7' or 11' foot high frame or your equipment is "always"

When I dealt with telecom equipment (IVR) at my last company . . . we didn't
take that clause. Our reasoning was that it was easier to make one enclosure

Greetings list-mates,
I have what I hope will be a stupid question, but I haven't been
that lucky so far today. I was looking through my list of EN standards
published in the OJEC for the EMC Directive and noticed there is no EN
