indeed quiet, but there is quite a difference between manufacturers.
Most of the problems I had to fix were related to leakage through the display
from circuitry behind it.

the need to test fibre should not be dismissed lightly. We have been finding
that some fibres are metalized to improve range(?), The metalization caries
noise right into the photo detector.
Unless you can be sure of what fibres you will encounter, test with several
types.

my OATS has two antenna towers. I do this because I get very good rejection of
ambients depending on which antenna I use.
If practical, try rotating your antenna and see if there is a null in the
ambient signal. The reorient your test object.

have the NEC code that basically want's everything connected, which
contradicts some EMC requirements. The Shield room hence needs some tricks:

The product is a PC card, the brains of which is a multifunction chip Two
pins of this chip are for connection to an X-TAL and two tiny caps ( pF's ) to
ground.
The initial value for the caps was 47 pF, and the Radiated

oscillator itself I managed to drop emissions by increasing the X-TAL
resonant caps from 47pf to 150pf. All waveforms still looked fine.
